We were so impressed with our meal during our stay at The Polurrian on the Lizard. We had the mussels to start which were delicious and the main course blew us away - Trout, samphire and potato, all cooked to perfection. The Scottish gentleman that served us during our meal was so friendly and the service was great throughout the evening.

We were staying at this wonderful hotel, great Weather, fantastic views and short walk to beautiful cove. Ate in the restaurant both my husband and I had a fabulous meal and excellent service. I had Pate, smooth and tasty. My husband had Moules Marinières he hasn’t stopped talking about it! Then I had pork belly and he had fish and chips. Thoroughly recommend *****

A wonderfully relaxing afternoon at Sunday’s Woodfired Sessions. Georgia Lewis was singing and her voice is sublime. Service was consistently friendly and attentive despite the restaurant and conservatory being very busy. Food was delicious - the grilled halloumi and focaccia were lovely. Highly recommended for a chilled out afternoon.

This has to be one of the worst meals in recent memory. Despite the restaurant being only one-third full, our experience was marred by several notable issues. The majority of the waiting staff seemed to be under 15 years old with no manager of guiding figure in sight resulting in a service that was incredibly slow and disjointed. We had to ask for the drinks order to be taken whilst the waitress was in the process of taking our food order. The quality of the food did not fare much better. The risotto starter was a particular disappointment, resembling and tasting like a hastily assembled supermarket grab-and-go meal. Adding to the frustration, our dessert experience was affected by further service mishaps. Despite ordering coffee with our pudding, it never materialized. When we attempted to rectify the situation and have the coffee removed from the bill, we were met with resistance from the waitress, leading to an unnecessary dispute during payment. Moreover, the overall attentiveness of the staff was severely lacking. They lacked the basic fundamentals of waiting tables and at times, members of our party had to actively seek out servers to address our needs. Unfortunately, these shortcomings overshadowed any potential positives, resulting in a poor dining experience. This place has taken a significant dive since out last visit and is a clear example of an establishment relying on the merits of a nice view whilst not offering anything of its own.

My sister and I had such a pleasant stay at this hotel. Our room and bathroom were clean and spacious. The Vista lounge, dining room, pool and spa areas were all comfortable, well maintained and tastefully decorated. The staff were so helpful and friendly especially Aaron who was a ray of sunshine and Sam who was very knowledgeable and patient. The food was superb and the views from the hotel are fabulous. Not a bad word to say about this place!

We stayed at the Polurrian hotel recently for a valentines break. We have always loved this hotel as we got married here last year but it has recently had some renovations done. We were not disappointed - everything was outstanding. The restaurant has had a modern update and the menus have an amazing choice, something for everyone, even fresh pizzas from the woodfired oven. We were lucky enough to have one of the newly renovated rooms (202) which looked out over the sea. It had all of the luxuries you would expect, tea + coffee, mini fridge, dressing gowns and toiletries and most importantly, a huge comfy bed! All of the staff were attentive and were always happy to help. The best bit was breakfast the next morning in the visa room. The view speaks for itself but it was made better by the food. Lots of choice for both continental and cooked, we were spoilt and definitely didn't need to eat lunch that day! We look forward to coming back again soon. x

Staying at the hotel we enjoyed a cream tea, dinner and breakfast. Each sitting was impressive. Scones light fluffy and warm... Dare I say the best in Cornwall (coming from a Cornish gal!). Our evening delicious. Good portion sizes, beautiful food and tasty. Breakfast did not disappoint with a fantastic selection of fresh food. My only feedback/suggestion on the brekkie was to offer a veggie choice as well as vegan. The tofu scrambled egg didn't hit the mark... But a tiny blip in while experience. Thanks to some great chefs

Four of us with wide tastes. I had the roast pork - excellent. Well prepared and succulent with just the right amount of crackling. My wife had the nut roast with excellent vegetable accompaniment which she enjoyed and would recommend. The girls had afternoon tea which was to their satisfaction. On the down side - presumably shortage of staff resulted in lack of attention. Will go again next time in Cornwall.

My sister in law wanted somewhere special for her husbands 70th birthday celebration. I suggested the Polurrian Hotel thinking it would be the ideal location. From the start there were problems booking the Christmas set meal that was advertised on their website, as the receptionist didn’t seem aware of it. After a few emails the table was booked for 1pm for 4 of us. When we arrived and gave the booking name we were offered the Afternoon Tea menu which we declined and said we were there for the Christmas Set Menu. We were given the main menu and told what we were able to order. We asked surely there was a copy of the Christmas menu! We were asked to take our seats at any table and the waiter went off. He returned with copies of the menu we asked for. There was only one waiter to serve all the customers that were coming in for meals and Afternoon Tea. After a while the waiter returned to take our drinks order. When he came with them he had the wrong bottle of wine which he immediately realised. Sometime later he returned with the correct wine and took our food order. The starters were fine but when our mains arrived the turkey was one thick slice and it was brown on top and dry as it had obviously been left in the oven to keep warm. The whole experience was a let down. The waiter was rushing around and never smiled, we asked if they were short staffed and he said no, just some off ill. That is short staffed! When the bill came there was almost £17.00 service charge added! I didn’t want to make a scene for my brother in laws birthday by refusing to pay this charge. I felt the service was very poor and the food wasn’t much better. This is one place I will not be rushing back to!

Went for lunch with a group of old friends. Positives: views amazing, service friendly and efficient, really good burger and chips. The pizzas, however, were very disappointing. The spicy pizza just was not spicy and it was very dry. One of the poorest pizzas anywhere for a very long time and expensive at £18. We were not paying and we were having a good time overall. If it had been just us as a couple, I would have sent the pizza back. It was that poor! Avoid the pizzas and you could have a great lunch with spectacular sea views.

Very sorry to say we were disappointed with our visit for afternoon tea. Arrived and were told to find a seat which was difficult because quite a few of the tables hadn’t been cleared/cleaned. Ordered afternoon tea for 2 and when it came, we thought someone was having a laugh! There were very few sandwiches, 2 microwaved scones, 2 minuscule pieces of fruit cake, 2 chocolate round cakes and 2 what I think was meant to be tiramisu (absolutely tasteless). The only positive was there was a generous serving of clotted cream and jam! We were really disappointed with the whole experience I’m afraid and wouldn’t come back even with the beautiful view. Such a shame.

This hotel is in a spectacular position and the lounge bar area takes full advantage of this. Comfortable seats makes it a good place to relax. We were walking the coast path and just came for a coffee. Its not cheap but you hardly expect to pay Wetherspoon prices, though it even exceeds the Idle Rocks in St Mawes. The filter coffee in my opinion is horrible, it's Cornish coffee which is vile. Note to self, stop ordering coffee without checking. I just wish that hotels here would offer African or South American ones. Plus it would be a nice idea to give a biscuit or tiddy cake wth coffee. The Falmouth hotel bake their own and it does give a much classier feel to it. You can factor it into the price. My partner's flat white was excellent. Will certainly come again though your reviews for food don't fill me with excitement. Service was friendly

Went here for Afternoon tea with a food. Glorious views and friendly staff. Really looking forward to our Afternoon Tea. When it arrived I believe our jaws dropped at the sight of it!! On the bottom plate was a measly three finger sandwich.which was so squashed together and flattened it looked pathetic!! It was more suitable for a toddler! The middle plate has 2 scones with jam and clotted cream which when tasted were beyond dry and tasteless!! Forced myself to eat one but left the other! The top plate was a tiny tiramisu, a small cake and a minute piece of batten burg which had a piece of clingfilm around it!! And a few quarter strawberries. The price tag for this was £19.50!!! Absolutely shocking!! I mentioned all of this to the waiter who only said 'sorry' and looked very uncomfortable about it!! I would appreciate a reply from the management on how they can justify the charge and portion size. Failure of a reply I will take as they dont care!! Beware everyone..stay away from the Afternoon Tea...its a complete rip off!!

Booked a table two days in advance for a family meal specifically in the Vista, on arrival stood for ten minutes before anyone approached us and then said there were no tables available and would we go to the restaurant. After expressing our disappointment were eventually shown to a table which had been promised to other customers which was highly embarrassing. We then waited for around twenty minutes during which time neither the table was cleaned or we offered a drink. We then left and went to the Old Inn in the village who squeezed us in last minute and provided excellent food and service at around half the cost.

We were shown to a cafeteria type room with only ourselves sat in it.Zero atmosphere and the chairs and tables were dirty. We ordered our afternoon hoping it would be spectacular as we had read that they had won afternoon tea of the year 2020 at a prestigious London event. How wrong we were, we were served 3 x finger sandwiches all ham. 1 x fruit scone 1 x plain sconeA tiny shot glass of lemon posset and 2 x pieces of the most boring slab cakes with a raspberry plonked on top. Nothing fancy that you would expect from an award winning afternoon tea in fact it was probably the worst afternoon tea we have experienced. We did speak with the manager and his comments were he would feed it back.No attempt at service recovery at all.The only positive from this experience was that the waiting on team were lovely. They seemed embarrassed at our complaints and did try to rectify it by bringing out some extra sandwiches with a selection of fillings. For the price you charge this was nothing short of appalling.I also notice you also have 2 trip advisor profiles ? One with many very poor reviews. As locals we have told many friends and neighbours and we will not return!

We were a family of four experiencing our first indoor meal out together on holiday after lockdown. We were taken initially into a wonderful room with a tiered seating arrangement overlooking the sea. Sadly, we were shown to a table in an adjacent room and a middle table at that, not overlooking the sea. Not quite the same. The menu had been emailed to me 5 days before our visit but with no explanation that we would have to use this on the day to order from. However, when we tried to place an order, every course I chose was not available! I was then told the menu had changed the day before and the waiter said he’d get reception to re email the correct menu. This of course took a short while to come through. We eventually managed to order although the glass of Cornish Chardonnay I requested was also not available. That made a full house! One of our starters were the scallops which were totally lacking in seasoning and a very small portion for the price. The other starter was the terrine which was fine but not stunning. We had high expectations for the main courses as the venue has it’s own pizza oven. My husband and my son however were so disappointed as they both love pizza but the traditional margarita was bland with no seasoning or herbs, minimal sauce and so small for £9. The extra £5 for the pepperoni was basically the same pizza with about 8 rounds of pepperoni. The stand out main course was the belly pork but for £22, this was a fairly small portion.Desserts were no better in terms of quality. The crime brûlée was basically slop without the sugar topping being properly blow torched and crystallised. The accompanying shortbread biscuit was brown and burnt rather than the pale coloured shortbread that one would expect. The two chocolate brownies were dry, far too deep and bland. We all like and are happy to pay for good food. My daughter was with us and is a chef herself so we all know what good quality is and what to expect. It was a small consolation that we received £40 from the bill as part of the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme as even so, the bill come to over £90 for a very disappointing experience. What a shame when it has been relaunched since our last visit a few years ago when we have no such memories of the whole experience being a let down.

Great view but zero ambience with ours being the only table being used. The place looked tired and dirty. We ordered afternoon tea but did not want mustard on our ham sandwiches. The afternoon tea's came and looked very underwhelming. We were given 3 x finger sandwiches ALL plain ham.1 x fruit scone and 1 x plain sconeAnd some tiny pieces of plain cake with a raspberry plonked on top, 1 x very small shot glass of lemon posset.Tea or coffee (the coffee was stone cold). We asked why we had only had ham sandwiches and they apologised and bought the correct selection of sandwiches out.The scones were ok. The tiny small cakes were plain, tasteless and dry, very dissapointing! I would have expected something a little fancier than a slab cake I could have purchased at the local coop for 99p.The only saving grace was the staff who were all very pleasant and friendly.I would definatley not recommend this place for afternoon tea, it turned out to be a very poor birthday experience experience. How this won afternoon tea of the year is beyond me! This was one of the poorest afternoon tea's we have had.We did pass on our comments to the Manager before we left but there was no effort at all made for service recovery.

I had one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had with some nice accompaniments but it was followed by a lemon tart that could hardly be cut and must surely have been bought in some time ago. My wife had the BBQ chicken burger which she said tasted of just chicken and tomato sauce.

What a fantastic night! We were so excited to get away after months of lockdown and the Polurrian did not disappoint. The staff were obviously excited to have guests staying and they catered to our every request. Things were naturally different in the current climate, no leisure club and no coffees in the room, but the bar staff were doing complimentary tea and coffee for guests. Reception had also called ahead and checked our dietary requirements, what bedding we preferred (never been asked that!) and also made sure we had booked times for dinner and breakfast. "Express" check in and departure were easy and worked well, and the team were constantly cleaning (very comforting right now!)The food deserves a special mention, theres a new head chef who has created a brand new menu, some of the best food we've had in a hotel! Gnocci was especially great. We cannot wait to come back, wishing the best of luck with the rest of the summer!

My family and I also had a disappointing experience at The Polurrian this Christmas. We’d booked, three weeks prior, for family lunch on Boxing Day. We were told the menu would be similar to the usual Sunday lunch. I contacted them four times in the week leading up to Christmas to ask if they could send me the menu. Eventually someone I know who works there, sent it to me, on Christmas Eve (after checking with the chef first!) It looked great - Sunday lunch-type menu. On Boxing Day, just as we were leaving the house to drive to The Polurrian (12.15pm for a 1pm booking), we had a phone call saying we’d been sent the wrong menu and they were only doing soup and pasties! We were very disappointed (and a bit cross, actually, funnily enough), plus none of us wanted soup and a pasty for our annual family get-together, so we didn’t go. We have had no explanation as to why Boxing Day lunch was cancelled at the very last minute, but were sent a voucher for complimentary Sunday lunch for all of us. But half our family live in Bath and London, and we rarely all get together at the same time - except at Christmas.

We had a dinner and dance booked here, our food arrived cold and best of all they ran out of veg and potatoes so 8 of us never had any with our meal! I have tried to get them to take responsibility for a shambles of an evening they have tried to tell me that the chef prepared 180potatos for 56 of us so at least three each and yet they came out in bowls with 4 potatoes between two so in theory the kitchen should have had around an extra 70 potatoes in the kitchen but when I asked for some for our table I was told that they had run out! One of the members of staff had told me that she was so embarrassed that they had run out as she was a local and knew a few of us there! The staff didn’t have a clue as to what they are doing and the manager has backed her team instead of listening to the customers when they say something is wrong. No bar service during food even when there is someone stood behind the bar twiddling their thumbs. This whole experience was awful and I would warn anyone who wants to visit DON’T DO IT! As a local I’m highly disappointed and will never return!

I live in Cornwall not far from this hotel, my daughters brought us spa day which we decided to use. I was most disappointed with the spa side if the hotel, the pool is small and basically falling apart tiles missing of moving, not very welcoming as very dated and tired, couldn't really spend the day there as no where to sit, no views no better than a public swimming baths. Beauty treatments ok nothing special, and lunch in the hotel was lush and had the most amazing views. It was an expensive spa day which I could gave done in a better hotel with better facilities.so not a spa day just a few hours such a shame.Definitely better hotels around this area.

I visited a few weekends ago and wrote a very positive review a few days ago. One disappointment was that I had left my toothbrush charger. Housekeeping had found it. They would post it to me but a week plus still hadn't received it.... Hence my review. Thought I'd give them another call before I bought a completely new electric toothbrush. They hadn't yet sent it for some reason but they phoned me the next day to say it's on it's way. I received it today.Btw, I've been checking out some other reviews. Lots are Secret getaways etc. Not all positive. What would you expect for such a low price 2 night stay???AND the bedding is to die for..... didn't want to get up the next morning.

I went with my family, our food took ages to come out, spent over an hour waiting for a single portion of chips for our young kids. Another family member only received her side order after everyone had finished eating, it was supposed to be courgetti but had 3 pieces of peeled courgette and the rest was lettuce so it was just a salad. My nephew also almost cracked his tooth on a piece of gravel found in his burger when he bit down on it, I understand accidents happen but this didn’t help the overall situation. All the food that did come out was just okay, not great not terrible, but when paying £15 for a pizza, you expect something decent.

We booked a 3 nights stay with a dinner package. We learnt about 5 days before that the pool was closed which was a disappointment. However the restaurant was very poor. No crisp white tablecloths here just plain Formica tables. The menu consisted of loads of pizza. The only steak on there was a huge 16oz one at £32! The staff were clearly lacking training about the menu and another lady sent her meal back. By the time the replacement came her partner had finished. Such a shame as room was lovely and staff fine. We ate out the next night we were so disappointed. Also if you have mobility issues ask for ground floor room. We climbed 43 stars to our room as there’s no lift!

Terrible experience . I have booked table for lunch to celebrate my husband’s and my grandson’s birthdays . On arrival table was not ready although it was booked a few days prior to visit. We were the only people in the restaurant which looked not welcoming , outdated interior with cheap furniture , no table cloth ... I suggested to the waitress we would like to move to conservatory which looked more cosy . I was told it was impossible because food was ready to serve which was not true as we had to wait another 30 min before food arrived . I was not happy told waitress I wanted to see the manager . She replied that there wasn’t any manager available today, she was rude and her manners were unacceptable , and virtually she turned her back on me and walked away . I asked at the bar I wanted to see the manager , he appeared soon after and apologised and offered us discount , to my regret I accepted it . I should of walked away from that restaurant instead . The food choice was very limited and the quality of food was very poor, we also had some missing elements of ordered dishes . The whole experience was just terribly upsetting , and no discount could compensate for ruining our special occasion .

We joined our two friends staying at this hotel for dinner. Beautiful hotel, fabulous location. Sadly the restaurant was more like a family room/canteen, families and noisy children, I appreciate that this is the core business these days but it would be nice to have somewhere for people without children to eat in a quieter location. The food and service were average, one of the food items was not available but we were not advised of this until the rest of the food arrived, some mistake when taking the order evidently, regardless of it being read back. Chips were offered instead. One of the service staff seemed to spend lots of time eating behind the service station, is this allowed? I have been to this hotel many times it's lovely but I believe it has changed and not in a good way. Us older patrons are being ignored, so will have to go somewhere else to spend our money

We stayed on a DBB deal. Staff were friendly and efficient, without exception. We had a small issue with side orders not being delivered with mains, but this was quickly rectified. Food was delicious and plentiful. Don’t bother to eat elsewhere in the evenings. They accommodate families and couples equally. We were a couple who wanted to take our cheeseboard and prosecco to our room, there was no issue with this. So relaxed and affable. We were happy with the 10% service charge being added to our bill automatically, good service deserves a reward . Thank you for making my post surgery break such a chilled event. We will definitely return.

I enjoyed our first night dishes it was lovely and tasted really nice but on the second night, the tapas was really good and came the main dish the chicken on board with anchovies and i really did not like it - it was overwhelming with mayonnaise and cheese and all lettuce and tasted horrible for me. They could had served it better -chicken and anchovies on one side and a colourful salad on one side and a little portion of one or two dressing for you to add according to your liking would have been better to enjoy.

We had lunchhere in August and it is a shame that this lovely hotel in a stuniing location can't get it together to provide good food and service. We had the same experience two years ago andreally hoped for an improvement. We arrived in the dining room, no one to greet us or show us to aout table, Eventually we ordered and the food, which was very simple, chosen from a very limited menu, burgers, tapas, things like that, took 45 minutes to arrive and was nothing special when it did. Perhaps they just trade off the lovely location and don't feel they need to make a real effort. So sad, it could be a really super pleace.

A lovely location with beach close by a short walk down the cliff path away. Nice hotel with good room overlooking the sea which you can hear easily with the windows open and gives a lovely sea breezes and sound all night - that was great. Our room was in need of some modernisation but was nice and did what we needed - Bed was king size and comfortable and the shower was good so happy. Could’ve benefitted from fridge/mini bar in the room and also room safe to have been really great. Dinner was a bit overpriced to us for what it was and so we went out to other venues locally - some great pubs in Mullion and the Mullion Cove hotel was also really good for food. We had a very pleasant few days there and would definitely go back.

We haven't stayed at this hotel, as we live nearby, but as a treat for my birthday we decided to have afternoon tea there. When we arrived we were advised there was a choice of three different sandwiches all with additions ie. samphire, onion chutney etc., we asked if we could have the sandwiches without the additions and this was agreed to. When the sandwiches arrived (literally 2 slices of bread cut into 3 each person) they were completely different fillings to those we had been offered. We were the only ones in the restaurant, and couldn't find anyone to ask for extra tea (even though the first lot we received was only luke warm). It came with a cream tea and 4 cakes between us (would have preferred more sandwiches instead to be honest). There was no atmosphere and the price was extortionate for what we had received. Maybe the hotel rooms are ok, but I would certainly not recommend the afternoon tea. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt by assuming they were having an "off" day, but it certainly ruined our day

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

Really good full Cornish. Generous portions. The bacon was griddled so tasty and not greasy, Harvey's sausages are ways peppery perfect. Would've like a hot plate and homemade beans rather than tinned. Will defo go back. The decaf coffee was dreadful though!
