Stayed close by to the pub, thought we wander down to have a drink and see the menu. According to their own website it was supposed to open at 5.30pm, we arrived at 5.46pm to find vehicle gates still locked there was a small pedestrian gate open. We went into the rear yard to see that there was't any outdoor seating firstly and a sign on the door said it opened at 6.00pm. Looking through the locked door we were being observed by staff who were just sat at a table drinking, no one approached the door to see us until we had stood there for about 4 minutes. When one opened the door she told us in a very rude manner that they didn't open until 6, by then that was only about 8 minutes away but she was so rude and arrogant we decided not to wait and give them our custom as they clearly didn't deserve it. Needless to say don't waste your time and take your business to a more deserving pub.

Suggested by a relative as an idea for a pub visit. However this is now a restaurant with no interest in the wet trade. The bar is screened behind perspex and tables are for formal dining only.

The Ploughboy sits at a junction on the trunk road between Bristol and Wells, with an ample car park, and (at the time of our visit) plenty of seating both inside and at wooden tables outside. I visited with my elderly and partially-sighted mother, and we were given every consideration. The draught beer was very good, and the food (a simple ploughman's lunch, as it should be) was top-notch and appeared very quickly. The facilities were easy to access for someone with a stick and poor vision. As they say: 10/10 would visit again.

The plough boy is a beautiful old pub at a crossroads in a small village. It has plenty of space outside to sit in the garden but no outside seating except one small table that has a sign that says you are not allowed to sit at it. The most obvious thing that is missing is a warm welcome. We are a family of seven staying in a cottage nearby for a week and myself and son-in-law went over to check the place out, have a pint and book a table for the family the following night, we were smartly dressed, took all the appropriate COVID precautions and politely asked if we could have a table and a drink in the almost empty pub. The old woman behind the bar said no because we hadn’t booked, OK can we book a table for tomorrow? No you will have to ring tomorrow. Well guess what. We didn’t We went to Tesco and bought all our own food and drinks for the week. On the plus side we probably saved ourselves £1000

On a day out yesterday we were looking for somewhere for lunch at about 1.45 p.m. As we approached the cross roads we spotted this attractive looking pub. Brightly painted with every window with a window box and lovely deep red geraniums cascading down. Drove into their car park. Bird feeder there with birds visiting and lots of pots of home grown flowers around the back of the pub. This looks nice we thought. Went in - it's a 1970s style pub. 1970s carpets, toilets - down to the air freshener smell - but that's ok. Landlord was quite pleasant and we complimented him on the flowers and had a chat about the plants etc. At this point it all seemed to bode well. Menu was pretty 1970s too so we both chose fish and chips thinking that would be a safe bet. I chose the breaded plaice as a healthier option to battered fish and was pleased I was offered peas instead of salad which I didn't fancy. I chose it with chips. My husband chose the scampi and chips with peas. I had a glass of cider - which was fine. My husband had a glass of beer which was ok. Lovely young woman fussed around us bringing us the condiments. The food when it arrived was awful. Really awful. The breaded coating was very hard and really overcooked. There was virtually no fish "meat" on the plaice. My husband commented that plaice doesn't have much to it - but this was barely a forkful. I was speechless. The chips were undercooked and needed to be cooked much more and they were not crisp at all. The scampi was - well - barely adequate and chips were the same as mine - inedible. There was so little fish that once I'd eaten a bit on my fork, which was slimey, and hunted around under the coating for more fish on the skin - which was all there - most bizarre - I realised that there was no more fish to eat. Just skin and hard hard coating. It was my husband's birthday (not much of a treat for lunch sadly) so I hadn't wanted to make a fuss. When he told the owner he was told we should have brought it into him before and it was too late now. I'm not sure what difference it would have made as he would just have assumed I'd eaten the fish - which I had all measly tiny bit of it. (I wish I had a photo to show you but my phone was flat) My husband didn't seem to think they'd have done anything better if I had taken it back. Usually "mine host" in a pub or restaurant comes to check everything is all right after delivering you a meal. Maybe it is telling that no staff came back to check if we needed anything else - maybe they knew what they'd served us. I very much resented that we had to pay for this "food" - which apart from the peas it was not. I could not recommend this pub less if I tried. Just don't bother.

4 of us visited recently for lunch, when one of our party felt ill & faint. The owners were really kind and helpful and did everything they could to help out. Eventually my friend felt better and we stayed for tea & coffee. There was no rush to get us out the door, and my friend could recover, at no time did they tell us it was past their opening hours (only just found out that they close at 2pm and it was well past that when we left). A family run pub, service, food, drinks, value for money all great An old fashioned pub perhaps but no music means we could all hear each other speak Also kindly let us all pay separately at the end, working it all out for us

i took a lady friend to this homely pub, nice fire and we felt comfortable straight away, the landlord was most welcoming and offered the menu and specials, we fancied fish and chips but were told that the fish was not up to standard and that it was to be returned to his supplier, so we chose scampi, a very generous portion was delivered by a pretty girl who was very pleasant, while we ate we heard the landlord giving merry jibes to customers and to two chaps in the corner probably locals who gave back equal abuse, most entertaining, so we had another drink and listened to the banter, certainly go back again.

Food is overpriced. One of us had a farmers lunch which consisted of two pieces of bread, a rectangle of cheddar cheese and a slice of ham - £8.95.All food was served on plates that were too small to be able to cut into it easily. One barmaid wasn't that friendly. My niece was showing me a video on her phone (not loudly) and the barmaid called across to say could we turn the phone down as she had customers. Not sure what she considered us to be if not customers. There was no-one sat near us and there were only three other people in the place who were sat around the other corner of the bar.All other staff including the landlord seemed friendly.

Called in on our way back from Bristol airport for a pub lunch. It's a pub we pass frequently and whilst appearing tired and in need of some TLC externally, we were pleasantly surprised. Internally the decor is again dated but is still a charming pub with a warm welcome from all staff, and from the great open fire place which was lit.I had the home made chicken curry which was tasty, whilst my wife opted for scampi, for the first time, and is now likely to become a firm favourite! Our daughter had the usual children's menu of fish fingers, beans and chips and was more than happy. Good selection of beers on tap made for an enjoyable lunch.Good sized car park and out door seating were a bonus.

John was the only delight today of thus shameful lunch. The meal was terrible. Dusted calamari was heavily breadcrumbed instead. My Aubergine.. It was served lukewarm so I had to send back to the kitchen. Plus, I could have done the meal myself although I would not!. A huge aubergine, cut in half and dusted with spiced herbs! Really? Stacked against a small plate of couscous and a tiny container of rhita!!! The Fountain.. you should be ashamed!
