Plattens Fish and Chips in North Norfolk

Got seated immediately which was great, that’s kind of where it ends! Waited at bar to place order for too long and although drinks came straight away they were drank up way before any sign of food. Had to chase food due to long wait times just for three light bite plates! When arrived I was so disappointed with size of portions which is a shame as cod bites and chips were very nice just a very poor portion as plates used are just too small, so not good value at £8.60. We felt absolutely ripped off, 25.40 for two drinks, plate of chips, light bite cod bites n chips and light bite sausage n chips! Would not return or recommended and was still hungry!

what a lovely Fish and Chip shop, front of house was a lovely friendly lady, Young lady at the till was obviously new and learning the tills, but what a lovely happy go lucky young lady she was. Explaining, she is new to the tills so please bare with her. Ordered our food, Traditional Cod and Chips, all nice and fresh and tasty, and nice size portions. Looking forward to going back to Well's later in the year for some more Fish and chips from here

Used to be a great place and used to go a lot, but seriously gone downhill. On Saturday the food was like warm and I had to get it changed, when I got my meal back the fish was miniscule. This isn't the first time this has happened unfortunately

On New Years Day it was only a takeaway but you could sit inside which a lot of people didn’t realise and the lovely lady working upstairs gave us a great table by the window

Fab and fuss-free gluten-free fish and chips! I had seen another fish and chip takeaway that did gluten free but the queue was so long I looked on Trip Advisor to find this gem. Fuss-free ordering on a screen where there was a gluten-free section to pick from, from classic cod and chips to light bites, all on screen orders also displayed other allergens. Took a little longer to cook than other orders but that’s expected and it was fresh, separate and staff knew what they were talking about which filled me with confidence. SO happy and a fab way to start the new year 🎉

We arrived in wells at 7 last night 28th and usually go to frenchies but they had just closed. We were hungry so decided to use platterns instead. Not happy that it was card only for a start. Had to wait 35 minutes for them to cook us 3 portions of chips. My husband had a very small and burnt cod what had clearly been cooked for a while. So 3 portions of regular chips 1 small cod and 2 small peas cost £26. Daylight robbery and the chips weren’t that great either. Will not use again. No apologies for making us wait 35 minutes either. Very disappointing

Excellent food including one gluten free fish and chips for a coeliac, lovely warm comfortable situation and great service. What more could you want. Our first visit but it won’t be the last I’m sure. Five of us had a very enjoyable lunch.

Oh dear what have you done Plattens! We have been coming here for years and always chose this fish and chip shop over the other one. We had heard that it had gone hill but we decided to stay loyal. My husband and I had two mini fish and chips with large mushy peas and curry sauce. The chips were grey in colour and not good, tiny piece of very flat fish which was so dry. And tasteless. The worst was yet to come, burnt mushy peas. How had you managed that? They tasted so bad we couldn’t eat them. On a plus note the curry sauce was really nice and the young chap that served us was really helpful and polite. Sorry but that’s our last visit to your shop next time we will go next door. Sad times ..

Not a very good experience today, been here many times too. Ordered 2 smaller portions of cod/chips, when it arrived, couldn't believe our eyes, served on a sandwich/side plate size plate, no room to move the food around even, only to discover the fish was raw in the middle. The waitress did change it but my husband had finished his, totally spoilt our lunch, thought a good will gesture would have been appropriate but never happened. Not sure we'd revisit after this tbh.

We had lunch at Plattens whilst in Wells next the sea. All the staff were pleasant and polite. The food was very good, we both had Fish and Chips. The fish was cooked fresh and was lovely and chunky. It took a normal amount of time from ordering to receiving our food. All in all a very good experience.

Great place. Fresh fish, nice table dining and relaxing. Would certainly recommend and as good as French's next door but with the advantage of a faster service and able to eat at a table.

An inviting, welcoming team to greet you when you enter. After a family dog walk we always plan to fit in some fish and chips. Wyatt served us and we were very impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. Quick delivery of food that tasted amazing as always. We are always very impressed and our wells trips are always featured around food at Platten’s. Thank you again to Wyatt and his team.

Plattens used to be brilliant - what on Earth has happened? Directed to self service to order Takeaway which is fine… But waiting for 30 minutes for a portion of fish & chips is not acceptable. Dine-In customers clearly more important to Plattens now as despite ordering their food after myself, they were served before me & it was only after asking where my order was that it actually materialised. The “waiting area” is cramped with customers coming & going - not a problem when the weather is nice but when it’s chucking it down with rain it doesn’t make for a pleasant experience. Expensive, small portions, chips awful… £16.40 for what’s pictured plus a can of Pepsi & my curry sauce. I used to love coming to Plattens as a child on holiday - sadly I won’t be returning.

Fish & Chips were very tasty! Portion sizes were very good and the quality was brilliant. Would recommend and visit again.

Not the best fish and chips we’ve ever had but was ok. Good location with a great view as well. Only issue we had is you have to order at the till then they bring the drinks out with the food, so we sat for about 25 minutes at a table with no drinks.

Ordered takeaway on the new digital system. Waited 20 minutes and then asked how much longer it would be. Was told there were lots of orders ahead of ours, so no idea how long the wait would be. Asked for a refund (which took another 5 minutes) and left. Avoid

The new digital ordering screens for takeaway are such a bad move, the waiting area is tiny so it was a complete disorganised mess of people. I can only assume they only want sit in custom now so have made takeaway really hard and unfriendly, great news for French's next door I guess.

We chose this place after a long walk mainly because the competitor along the road doesn’t allow dogs. Quite a long wait. No cash (very non inclusive). Very expensive. Over £40 for two fish and chip meals with sides and tea. Fish quite good though small. Chips not hot. Tea bag in a cup. Wished we had gone to a local pub instead! Not recommended.

Personally I find the fish nicer here than at their competitor along the road but I sincerely hope they review their decision to introduce the touch screen ordering which seems to produce lengthy delays. We dined at a Sunday lunchtime so maybe busy and fewer staff then. Anyway, lovely food if you are prepared to wait for it in the doorway or out on the street.
