Pizza Express in St Albans

Anna made our experience so good. She is so lovely with all of us and makes sure everyone has what they need. It’s very chaotic in there but she makes it pleasurable . It’s our second time there with Anna helping us and it makes all the difference when you have a patient and caring waitress.

Had a great evening, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I do think pizzas are overpriced however I love these ones so happy to pay the price. There is a great vegan selection and the new menu is great with lots of new things to try.

We had a meal here last week. We hadn’t booked a table but there was no need as the restaurant was empty around 4:00 p.m. We had two young children with us. There was a high chair available for our 18 month old. The service was very slow. My husband ordered a salad and it was late coming to the table after all the hot meals had arrived. Several different types of wine weren’t available despite being on the wine list. I thought the cost for a one course meal was outrageous. The pizzas were good but very overpriced.

What a miserable waitress, pulling faces if you asked questions also pulled them when she served the kids food. Enjoyed the food but the coffee was rubbish and the range was limited no flat whites. Not impressed at all. No tip for this lot.

Love this place, such good atmosphere form the customers to the staff everyone is allways happily and friendly, food is top notch too. Great experience would highly recommend

My favourite local place couldn't deliver so I had Pizza Express as the back up. Expensive and really not that great and the portion size was pretty meagre. I had the La Reine pizza that was pretty tasteless and forgettable. The garlic dough balls were good. I always enjoy those. The cheesecake was once again tasteless. I won't be ordering from here again. Lesson learned.

Fantastic Takeaway today, hot fresh crispy pizza and probably the best calamari I’ve ever eaten! Still the best high street pizza chain by far.

Was served by the lovely Yozen. Service was fantastic along with lovely food and drinks throughout our evening. Thank you Yozen! Will definitely return again!

Every month or so me and my family go to pizza express and we have an amazing time. though the food may take a little while it is definitely worth the wait and it is a place for conversion anyway.

Went to Pizza Express for lunch today as the last day of ‘eat out to help out’. Why are there no prices on the Pizza Express online menu? Ended up paying nearly £27 for 2 Penne Bolognese and the pasta was overdone and crispy.

We went there at 8.30, which I believe is a reasonable time to have dinner. The manager welcomed us as if she was forced to have us there. (The UK is in recession, you should be happy to have customers during this difficult period.) After we finished our meal of over £70, she did not even bother to take our plates or clean the table and asked us if we wanted the bill. We did not even manage to finish our drinks. The waitress was nice, but the attitude and customer service of the lady in charge was horrific. Won't be coming again.

We booked online for 9.30pm ! Arrived at 9.35pm and was told “ THE KITCHEN IS SHUT, NO EATING IN NOW !!! “ I said that I had a reservation and she said not possible as the kitchen actually shuts at 10pm. After a further discussion the female manager looked at my email confirmation and agreed that we can’t sit down got eat and it was a mistake to take our reservation!!! We drove 10 miles there just to be bitterly disappointed ☹️

OK I get that restaurants take bookings , and walk buy guests can cause a problem but this tiny PE was at best 35% full. On entering the door the Maitre'D ignored us for a couple of minutes while shuffling menus around and then having been asked the obvious 'have you made a reservation' question we got a lot of deep sighs and well I suppose I can get you in but you MUST be out within the hour. Fair enough, but then to wait 10 mins to be asked if we were ready to order from a menu that is hardly expansive..... That said the food arrived within five minutes of that so had either been par cooked or the pasta just warmed in a microwave. Even more surprising when asking for this bill this took two attempts and a further 10 minutes to process.Advice- Don't bother visiting unless you have booked, oh and incidentally when did PE become the new Maccy D's with crayons drawing pads and paper hats for a restaurant full of screaming kids?

Went for supper this evening at Pizza Express, however, the meal was marred by the attitude and lack of experience of the staff working there. I was served by an Eastern European woman who quite frankly struggled to take our order, having had to wait about 20 minutes before she lazily asked us what we would like in the first place. As we were paying, incorrect items were added to our bill which she (and the manager), were insistent on us paying. I also heard another customer complaining on a table near us. Overall, a terrible experience.

I visited this week with friends for dinner. The restaurant was virtually empty.We were served by a very friendly and pleasant waitress. It's been a while since I have visited Pizza Express but was shocked to see the pizza I preferred was over £15 for a medium sized pizza. The pizza was tasty but £15+ - far too expensive. I think I won't be rushing back

We have been living in harpenden for the last 7 years and have only used the Pizza Express in the town twice. Our first visit approx. 7 years ago we found the place extremely dirty. We went again yesterday and the service was terrible. We were going to order desert but no waiter in site. We then just asked for the bill 3 times before we actually got it. The lasagne was basically just a bowl of tomato sauce. There was barely any mince or pasta in it. This is a shame as other towns Pizza Express are much much better. We wont be using this one again.

Went for lunch today to see my sister in my lunch hour. Quick service with a smile and lovely food. Wish every lunch time could be so enjoyable .

We arrived to celebrate our daughter's Pizza Express birthday party only to find the restaurant in a complete mess.We booked a pizza-making party at the Harpenden branch on Saturday morning for our daughter's sixth birthday with 13 other children and their parents. But when we arrived, 20 minutes before the party was due to start, we found the restaurant in such a state we were forced to move the party to the pub next door.Upon arrival we were shocked by the state of the restaurant and the welcome we received. The restaurant was like nothing we had ever seen before and hopefully never will. The floor was covered in food, crayons, used napkins and fragments of glass from the night before. Amazingly the tables had been reset with new napkins and cutlery yet every one of them was dirty and clearly not been cleaned. The drinks preparation area was flooded with what I can only guess was a leak from the dishwasher, and kitchen ingredients were still lying on the counter in the food preparation area.As it was too late to cancel or make alternative plans, we started to help the stand-in manager clean and tidy the restaurant, but were daunted by the size of the task. Although we helped to sweep the floor, the tables were still dirty, and every chair was covered in food stuff.The final straw was when my wife went to the toilet. Walking in and seeing the remnants of the day before was the tipping point. When we asked the stand-in manager why the place was in such a mess he said that they always clean up the next morning.I find this shocking. Being in a semi-rural area it is amazing the restaurant is not infested with vermin.

Not really much more to say , the food is average but handy to go to with kids .The problem is the staff , they have a terrible attitude it’s almost embarrassing.The chefs smoke out the back and make fun of guests , the staff are really rude and unfriendly .The manager is truly terrible and has no clue .The bins are dirty and overrun outback .

I liked it. it was a quiet Wednesday evening, but I was impressed with the quality and speed of service, The food was well-presented and tasty, and i will return.

The food and vibe is wonderful - especially in summer with the outside, green seating area! However at my recent visit - and my one before - we were left waiting an astronomically long time to be served, and to get the bill, and then to pay, which was a real shame because the waitresses were really lovely!

Wrong drinks, wrong food, then they didn't have what we wanted. Been to others in the chain, usually better. Just think this was a one off therefore 3* - if i had not been to other sites before would have been less

It was busy when we arrived on a Saturday night but we were seated quickly. The food was good, as you'd expect, but I wanted to commend the service which was prompt and very friendly. Our waitress , Sophie I think, was especially good making sure the last piece of gluten free carrot cake was kept back for my friend.Many thanks!

Pizza Express is by far the best of the major pizza chains but for some reason the Harpenden one never seems to work (for me).

Sadly, despite the fact that it appeared to have 6 waiters walking around looking for things to do, had to wait for quite a long time to order a coffee, then it took again almost as long to get it.

Ordered two pizza waited 40 mins in the restaurant. Pizza finally arrived cold to a response of “do you want me to warm it up” arrived home to find they had not even sliced it. Sat in the restaurant watched by all the staff who could not even apologise for delay or ask if we wanted drink while waiting. Ended up not finishing and getting something out of freezer Worst customer experience ever

I can’t understand why even when the restaurant appears empty that service is still slow. It’s not great for hungry children wanting fed quickly!!

This is always one of our go to options if we can’t be bothered to cook - it’s generally always busy so service isn’t the quickest but food is decent Pizza Express fare. Dough balls, Romana pizzas and salads are all tasty as are the desserts. Given the fact you can always find a voucher then it’s good value for a quick meal!

I get the feeling they have tried to add more tables into this restaurant which is a real shame as the tables feel cramped and the loss of personal space impacts on privacy. I don’t want to be able to hear all the personal dramas of the people on the next table and they surely don’t want to hear mine. Service was prompt, efficient and practical although the upsell opportunities were mostly missed by staff who did the basics well, but no more. Food was tasty enough although less convincingly original than other Italian places nearby. Drinks were expensive £2.85 for a coke and almost £6 for a bottle of sparkling mineral water. Would not race back, but it’ll do when you just need a quick meal.

Managed to get a table even though we hadn't booked. Rammed with people and tables far to close together which made for a slightly less than ideal meal. Food was fine and staff helpful.

Food was good service was great I love the new menu with more veggie options and this is good value for money.

Excellent service throughout our visit! To be fair we visited when it was quiet but the staff were excellent quick service and checked on our food which was superb. Did Meerkat 2-4-1 well worth a visit and worth the money we paid!

Harpenden pizza express is always let down by screaming misbehaving children but that’s Harpenden I suppose not the premises fault. One thing they could have stopped was the children running around. Food good and you get what you pay for

Sad to see so many poor reviews. We found this to be a lovely example of this chain. Our only gripe would be that the menu seemed very limited but haven’t visited for some time so might be the norm everywhere. That said, we each ordered our dishes with changes from the menu description and all were delivered perfectly. Lovely waitress and excellent service too.

Serving great pizzas since 1965 and still good - tasty & fresh. Great service - team were so friendly and engaging.

It is years since I last visited a Pizza Express as I prefer real Italian food rather than their version of fast food. A few weeks ago I came as part of a small family group. Service was the better side of average but the pizzas disappointed.

I hadn’t visited pizza express for a while; lunchtime treat with my daughter. Aside from it feeling like we were in a crèche (last day of school holidays) the food was average. I was shocked to see pizzas are nearly £15 each but with a voucher we got 2 for 1 bringing it to a reasonable price. However, the Romana pizzas are just ridiculously thin, they were undercooked from about halfway to the centre so all floppy and just disappointing. I think I’ll be giving this restaurant a miss in the future; you can buy frozen dough from the Northern dough co and make better ones at home!

First visit. Very pleasant waitress. Canelloni was unexpectedly good and Eileen enjoyed her lasagna. Pleasant clientel, quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Tuesday night. Not cheap, but my son was happy with the bill.

Staff a rude and lie. We booked a table and there was a family of 4 in front of us and we were a table of 6. I asked if we could have the table where there was 6 spaces considering there were many free tables of 4. I was told this is not possible as they were waiting before us and our table have people who should be leaving soon. She was rude and abrupt and was quite aggressive. I then asked 15 minutes later what was going on with the table another member of staff decided to say that we had to wait And that they can’t rush people off the table (which I agree with) however we wouldn’t have the problem if they would of listen to what I said in the first place which after she agreed but then continued to say you should of never sworn at her which I can say that I never did I just said it is ridiculous we booked in future there is no point. We are regular customers and really disappointed in the way we were treated..

I enjoyed a really pleasant meal with my brother here. The service was friendly and efficient. Food was typical for any of this chain as were the drinks.

I went in for a pizza on the off chance, rather than go home and cook something. I was favourably surpised. Good quality pizza good value and pleasant staff.

Visited last week as a party of 6. I'm glad we booked as it was busy. Great service and the usual good fresh Pizza!

Visited on a Friday night and they managed to squeeze 8 of us into the outside area, which was great. It was a nice location on a summers day, but sometimes a little noisy from the traffic. My only issue is the cost, don’t get me wrong, the food was nice but I didn’t feel it was value for money.

We decided to have lunch on a sunny Sunday. We decided to sit outside and there were children running riot. One table with a family were the children were walking around with no shoes on and feet on the tables. Another table with children coming over to our table and just standing staring at us.

Dough balls arrived.... fast, but cold!

Last time we went it was lovely but this time my pizza was soggy in centre and crispy dry at edges.

Visited Pizza Express in Harpenden last night and used the 2 for 1 deal on main courses Monday - Thursday.. we both ordered a Romano pizza (which has a thin base and larger than their other pizzas) and both were delicious!! We were also able to order additional toppings (anchovies and olives) for a small extra fee. Also ordered a raspberry lemonade which was very tasty. Great food Great Service!! Good disabled access and facilities. Highly recommend and we will revisit soon

I took my five year old grandson and one year old granddaughter to my local pizza express to celebrate her first birthday.

Need to work on cleaning as an ongoing task - we were shown to our table and the seats had food al over them. The floor was not great either. The lasagne was an awful sloppy mess with over cooked pasta and very little meat content. The tomatoes in the side salad were not ripe and rock hard - yuk. I ordered a pizza which was really excellent! So not all bad. Waitress was really friendly and efficient.

Visited this evening. Couldn't wait to get out. Waitress grudgingly had to wipe over our seats as they were covered with food & liquid. Decided to go over ourselves with our own wipes as the cloth she used was filthy. Waitress indifferent if not bordering on rude, knew nothing about the menu. We complained that the jug she brought our water in was stained. She then said they only had two? We could see five others on tables around us?? Then said that it was because the chemicals to clean them had not arrived! Two things we tried to order we were later told were off the menu after we had waited 15 minutes. The reason apparently is that the menu is changing in a few weeks so did not have ingredients. Re-ordered. 10 mins came back to tell us they had no coleslaw. Pizzas arrived and very average. Dry and tasteless. Should have walked then but friend had traveled far. Dessert arrived as 3 tiny profiteroles. We decided to call it a day and left. £50 plus bill. What a waste of money. Told the waitress it was appalling & she shrugged her shoulders & said but look around you we are full! Never ever again...back to Zizzis for us.

Pizza was very average. I would not reconnect the sloppy Giuseppe pizza as it was terrible- no flavour to it. Our waiter had a very demanding tone when asking our orders

We went in Christmas Eve. We hadn’t been for a while. Whenever we have pizza elsewhere we always wonder why as it is best here. Only one wish would be that they bring the kids food out first rather than the adults.

Ordered the Vegan Giardiniera and what can I say... for a restaurant chain that wins an award for doing Vegan food, this was appalling. Even the non vegan pizza we had was not great. At least that one had all the toppings it was supposed to have! So not having two of the five toppings it was supposed to have it also looked like a frozen pizza from Iceland... not saying all Iceland pizzas are bad. See the picture of what it’s supposed to look like and then imagine something that had been run over a few times! Wouldn’t recommend it and won’t go back again.

I meet a friend for a long over due catch. I arrived early, so I checked out the menu whilst waiting. I was asked if I wanted to wait or order a drink by a lovely waitress. So ordered, green tea. I have checked out lots of deals before hand but we decided that we would have a starter, main & desert for £13.95 which we thought was good value. There wasn't a huge selection but everything we wanted. We had dough balls to start & my friend who is vegan had garlic oil. I followed with Leggere Padana which was delicious!!!!!! I could eat this everyday. She had Vegan Giardiniera, it was fantastic. Then I had the chocolate fudge cake, it was ok but nothing special. The waitress kindly added the coconut sorbet which wasn't on the deal for my friend to have & she said it was perfect ! The staff are fantastic here, really friendly & warm. It's a busy place with a lovely relaxing feel. We will definitely be back !!!!!!!

Lunchtime solo visit. Had pizza which was served quickly by friendly staff member. Pizza was good as expected perhaps slightly on the expensive side. Mistake was ordering a shandy which came to more than £5.00 which was very expensive. Overall experience pleasant enough

Visited pizza express last minute, always tables available and always looks clean and inviting. Was shown to the table by a lovely Eastern European lady who was brilliant the whole time we dined. I had the tomato and mozzarella starter which was beautiful followed by a spicy pizza which was excellent also. Good wine selection and not pricey, would recommend for a quick meal with friends

Me hubiese gustado tener una 'por encima de la media, pero por debajo de calificación de muy bueno. La última noche la comida era excelente, mi Zapparoli Romana era caliente y abundante, y el marisco Rigatoni y pizza legerra también fueron geniales. Las bebidas eran razonables y el servicio era de primera clase. Sin embargo. . . . Cada vez la puerta principal se abre, es como estar en la cara norte del Eiger, las carreras de viento a través, terminamos todos poniendo en nuestro jumpers. También es muy ruidoso, necesita algunos (retardador de fuego) colocación insonorizadas revestimiento! En ese sentido, nada ha cambiado desde mi última revisión, por lo que claramente no he tomado en cuenta todos los comentarios aquí sobre el ruido y el viento, así hasta 3 estrellas me temo.

Yo organizado para un grupo de 31 estudiantes/profesores para tener una comida de 3 platos. Nos pedidos y estaba entregado a todos nosotros en un tiempo similar. Los camareros eran muy simpáticos; los administradores no podría haber sido más servicial. Nos quedamos muy contentos. Sólo una cosa menor - ligera confusión en las bebidas, pero grupo tamaño dado comprensible. Muchas gracias. Ll volver el próximo año!

Took 3 children - two aged 3 and one aged 8. Great service, staff considerate of the kids and chatted with them, rather than the usual 'ignore and look at parent' restaurant service. Food quick and (as it's a chain) as always, very nice.Great for families, couples, first dates etc

Popped in at approx 10.30pm for a quick pizza after a show across the road. As we entered I asked if we could have a table for two and the waitress felt it necessary to check her watch before almost reluctantly admitting us into a virtually empty restaurant.My pizza wasn't great as the base was far too doughy with an inconsistently spread topping which is most unusual as I find Pizza Express outlets very consistent.When asked if everything was ok when coming to pay the bill I told the waiter that my pizza had not been great and received not a single word of apology.Needless to say I suspect I shall not be rushing back.......

My family and I have just returned to the UK from 10 years as expats. When we left, Pizza Express was an entirely dependable, if not necessarily inspiring pizzeria. We had a weekend family lunch here - it left us all wanting, and my wife and I somewhat confused. The simple formula worked 10 years ago - the good stuff's gone, and you're left scratching your head. Three main salads ordered - all rubbish. My 10 y/o daughter is now a margarita pizza connoisseur - she was seriously unimpressed with her pizza. The available choice of pizzas isn't what it was (when did you discontinue the Capricciosa???) We had to send back my other daughter's pasta and got an apology from the manager. If that's the scenario - you need to sack the chef. And a coffee came out looking like dishwater (no seriously - dishwater.) Again sent back and an actual coffee served. Blimey - how things have changed.

I have a pizza once or twice a year with my grandchildren, and will only go to pizza express, as history tells me that the pizzas there are the best!....Not any more! Cold, chewy pizzas, burnt around the edges, really unpalatable!Also, the favourites have gone- 4 seasons, 4 cheese, and not a fish pizza in sight, other than an offering of white anchovies, which were frankly disgusting!£80 later, and my memories of fabulous pizza express are distant!Dominos here I come...

Visited for lunch with my mother. The food was excellent and very tasty, the service was prompt and attentive. Would recommend.

Food was good but noise level from shouting kids and babies was unbearably loud. This is a great place for meeting friends with babies and toddlers.

Went to pizza express with a friend for a catch up dinner. Recently the menu changed and the trusty giardiniera pizza was removed, which was disappointing as it was a favourite for vegetarians. Although, the new menu did contained a couple of vegetarian salads, I was disappointed to find that those had been changed again, so only contained 1 vegetarian salad. Despite the menu limitations, I was very impressed by the staff, they were very friendly and didn't rush us out. Also the food came out promptly.

I have been going to harpenden pizza express for years and the service has been touch and go. My last visit was a quiet Thursday night and a serious disappointment. We were left waiting for 20 mins to order our drinks and when the server eventually arrived she looked disinterested and annoyed to Even be there. Seems like we weren't the only people with a disappointing evening as the table beside us return to courses to be reheated as they were stone cold. The food was fine but all in all a very poor experience. Will think twice before returning.

Food is always really good. Was happy with main and desert. However was disappointed with the loud beeping noise by the door. We were sat right by the door. And could hear a constant beep which was very off putting. Also the code on our two for one card was just out of date. Also not fair on the staff members. A served mentioned the noise had been there for a few days. If it was driving me and my dad mad. Can't imagine what it was like for your staff. But aside from that. Always lovely food and pizza. Location is great.

Went for lunch in a group with adults and young kids. Got quite busy and although service slowed the staff were still attentive. Feels a little bit cramped with the table layout.Standard pizza express food

Wow, so much choice, but would highly recommend the chicken pizza with pepperdews. Wow. Quick service and great taste.Strange layout though, but lovley atmosphere. Sat waiting for take out pizza and everyone was enjoying themselves.

From my arrival to my departure I was very well looked after. Nothing much to say from the food, had what was expecting. But the attentive service a the amazing atmosphere was the best of my experience.

This place is always very busy. However, if you do manage to get in, the service can be very, very slow. Usually standard of food you expect from Pizza Express once you do get served.

Really impressed with the restaurant when we went on a freezing cold Weds evening. Was busier than expected. Ben was our waiter and made us very welcome followed by great service. Food was spot on and really well cooked and presented. We will be back!

As always when I go to pizza express the staff are friendly and the food is fresh and incredibly tasty! Highly recommend

Not a place I would normally visit but my friend was visiting and wanted to go. It was not as busy as it normally looks from outside but still noisy with squeeling babies and young children running around. The reason I don't go to places like this. The Pizzas were over cooked and soft drinks really overpriced. My friend who had come down from up North commented on the fact that it was more expensive than her local restaurant. She asked the waiter about this and apparently it depends where the restaurant is situated in the UK. So looks like we got charged London prices. £5.80 for 2 small squares of very dry brownies. Couldn't wait to leave and don't think she'll want to drag me back here on her next visit thankfully.

Nothing wrong with the food itself, but the staff couldn't raise a smile and looked thoroughly miserable. They all stood together talking instead of serving customers or cleaning up. Windows were filthy on the inside with greasy fingerprints, floor needed sweeping. Instead of standing around the staff could be proactive and clean the place up. No welcome or goodbye, no please or thank you. Asked if meal was ok when we had almost finished. The food was ok but would choose another PE for better cleanliness and friendlier service

Hadn't been for some time so fancied a Pizza and called in. As usual here, good service, prompt and friendly. There has been a few changes to the menu which was a pleasant surprise; they have some good salads if you want something a little different. Our Pizzas were very tasty, but were not very hot, by the time we were near the end, it was stone cold.

Hadn't been for ages. Sadly, service was a lacklustre, the place untidy (floor needed a sweep) but mostly it was cold with the air conditioning on (in November). Food fine but chill and lack of attention meant we left as soon as we could.

It wasn't that busy as we went on a Thursday evening, however service was slow & our food arrived before our waitress delivered our drinks - meaning we had to request them again.The starters were lovely, with the calamari tasting great. Me and a couple of pals thought we'd have a little throwback to our childhood and go to Pizza Express and we were NOT disappointed.Upon entering, we were instantly greeted with that mouthwatering aroma that you can only find at Pizza Express - garlic, chilli, pizza and pasta; delicious. We started off with a couple of swift halves and a large plate of dough balls. It's been years since I've had those dough balls and I can tell you one thing, it won't be waiting years to have them again - superb. Having grown up on the American Hot, I was slightly on edge when I looked at the menu and saw the American Hottest. However, I'm a daring chap, who lives life in the fast lane and so thought I would give it a go - and I'm so thankful that I did. It was as though the American Hot that I've grown so fond of over the years, had been given a complete makeover. A little bit spicier, thinner and tastier - I believe the Italians would say it was molto saporito.The service was quick and came with a smile, the food was even better. I could taste the passion the chefs had put into the food and there is something quite beautiful about that. All of this for £11 as well. I'll certainly be returning in the near future to carry on my old friendship with Pizza Express which had been dormant for so many years.

I ordered the Pesto Pollo chicken pasta as a takeaway dish a couple of weeks ago from some rather miserable looking staff. I can genuinely see the restaurant from my front door, yet when I got it home it wasn't particularly warm. Not massively fussed, I popped it in the microwave. Started eating and was rather disappointed to find that the red onion in the dish was completely raw and crunchy. Pretty gross but I could't be bothered to return the dish....Until I crunched down on a piece of crockery in a mouthful. Unmistakably part of a plate or bowl as it had the black design on it. Luckily, it didn't chip any teeth.I ran back to the restaurant and was offered something different off the menu by the manageress who was pretty embarrassed. She also offered me a free meal for 2 so took my contact details. I chose a Padana Leggera.Got it home..... IT WAS THE WRONG PIZZA. Called the restaurant and told the manager. She was pretty speechless except for reiterating about this free meal I could have.It's been 2 weeks and I STILL haven't heard anything regarding this dinner voucher for 2 that she said she'd email over. Not that I'm bothered as I can honestly say I wouldn't want to eat in there again anyway.

I know it's one of a chain of many other restaurants but this one is always busy and has great atmosphere. There's plenty of parking nearby and normally always a seat.

I keep coming back to this, my local PE butI generally leave feeling a bit grumpy. The food is actually really good - all pizzas, kids menu, everything is tasty. The problem is that the service is invariably dire. On our last visit, I didn't complain about the slow service but just about every other table did. Asked a passing server if we could order another drink while we waited and our order was never taken. To their credit, they discounted our bill heavily without me requesting it but honestly I'd rather just have good service.

Went here for my sons birthday. So disappointed! The staff were rude and the service was really slow. Not ideal when you have three hungry children. Such a shame as we've enjoyed lots of meals at other branches.

Visited on the 21.08.16 with my partner for dinner. Stood waiting at the door for a few minutes, which I wouldn't usually mind but at 7 months pregnant, not so much. Didn't get knowledged but when we did the service was good. I recommend the watermelon chill drink. And only go for the American Hottest if you can really handle heat. Waiter was polite and poured drinks. Also with tastecard you basically receive 50% off your bill. Overall, pleased.

Amongst all restaurants in Harpo, Pizza Express has a very prime location. I have been dining there many times and it is always down to who is working in the kitchen and on the floor. This sadly can ruin your evening in a few seconds. Always check offers and carefully read tiny Ts&Cs to avoid any further disappointment - usually there are way too many exclusions and you are ending up not choosing it anyway. Last weekend I met there with a friend for dinner and a few drinks. We sat outside as the weather was still nice and there are heaters available too. Our waiter was polite and attentive, starters came quick and were delicious. We had a few concerns to our mains as the salad I ordered was a bit tired and lasagna wasn't quite well done as we requested. Luckily the duty manger stepped in and saved our evening. She was very helpful and looked after us till the end of the evening. At the end we were offered a complimentary coffee for the inconvenience which was such a nice gesture and rarely happens nowadays. Once again thank you Ella for looking after us!

I got an email today from Pizzaexpress saying 40% off due to hot weather. The email allowed me to be directed to my local pizzaexpress, which is Harpenden. My kids have just come back having been fleeced for the full amount as apparently the offer doesnt count at Harpenden. The company makes it very difficult to find out which restaurant it relates to as they really want you to turn up and be told hoping you will stay anyway. £45 later for few pizzas and a drink. Total ripoff. Avoid.

I like Pizza Express food, it's pretty reliable and tasty. In the Harpo one there's no difference here.The service whist not unfriendly was a bit sketchy. Quite a long wait for the order to be taken and then a side order missing. To forget one out of the four dishes is not brilliant. It's very noisy in there at the far end at least. It's a square box with no soft furnishings so acoustically terrible.The kitchen seemed to keep dropping what sounded like large saucepans on the floor !I prefer St A or Luton Pizza expresses. They are much more comfy inside.

Went for lunch with friend, had 3 lovely courses all the food was excellent & mega quick service. Our waitress was friendly & helped us make our choices just the right amount of attention, so thinking about it not one thing to moan about it has to be 5 stars :-)

We use this restaurant very regularly both as a couple nd with our grandchildren. The food is always very good and service very prompt. The only downside is that it can be a little noisy at times.

Three of us ate here yesterday evening. Busy and extremely loud, every sound seemed to reverberate around the place, at times we couldn't hear ourselves talk. Also a huge draft came through whenever the door was opened, and we were the other end! Food was quite good, especially the risotto, and the romana pizza was nice for as long as it stayed warm, but by the third slice it was tepid, and the fourth slice was eaten mostly cold. Warmer plates needed maybe? No hot drinks were available as the machine had broken. Service was friendly and not too slow. If they fitted a double entrance/exit door, and did something about the noise, then it'd be better, but also the food would need to be warmer to entice us back again.

Myself and my husband went in for a quick dinner on a Friday night. We were treated by a very friendly young man at the door and then got absolutely fantastic service from our waiter. All the staff were smiley and there to help! Lovely atmosphere due to very lovely staff!

Dined here on many occasions, food is always ok. Only usually go for a cheap night out and you get what you pay for.Cold by the windows in the winter, avoid if you can.

Waited at the front to be seated or at least noticed , was noticed then for some reason ignored for 5 minutes then left , only 2 people dining , empty , dirty floor full of food and stickers . Grim place , went to strada instead and very nice .

Popped in in March and had lunch. Good price although think the menu could be increased. Clean, tidy
