Pizza Express in St Albans

Everything was ok except I couldn’t escape awkward looks of the chef.

When we visited the restaurant it was super busy evening saturday, but it doesn't affect on our service, very friendly staff and service. Food was excellent and quick service.

took over 90 mins to arrive. had clearly been left under hot plate to keep warm. dry, tasteless. They forgot the garlic butter for the dough balls.

It was a really disappointing visit to Pizza Express last Friday. I went there with my husband and my little son, but I will never go again. It was a busy evening for them, as there was a party of more than 20 people, which might be why my little one felt uncomfortable and started to cry and act up. At that moment, short-haired blonde lady stared at us as if we were doing something illegal. I found her way of watching us very offensive, as if she was about to tell us to make our baby stop crying. It was really rude and unprofessional of her. People with little kids have the right to go out for dinner as well. We didn’t complain about the noise because we understand that everyone goes out to have fun At least our food was nice and wasn’t delayed despite the busy shift. However, I think they should not allow behaviour like that from a member of staff. I hope she isn’t managing staff, as I would be even more disappointed if HR permitted such behaviour. I will give just two stars, even though the food was good, because that alone is not enough for a restaurant

I love the pizza from pizzaexpress. But today while I went for my delivery order to the pizzaexpress. I feel insult by the staff behaviour specially that new guy , I saw first time on delivery orders. He asked me for thermal bag I show him he grabbed my thermal bag from my hands , And put the pizza in the bag, what was that behaviour? I feel insult I don't know why he is doing. Too much disappointed if he have too much attitude ,he should not show this type of mentality on job.

The order had multiple updates and got delivered about 1 hour after the initial given delivery time. in addition to this the food arrived cold and at a very lower standard (almost no toppings at the pizzas).

visited with my friend today to come and grab lunch and we where served by the beautiful maria. She was an absolute star 10/10 service. She sat us down and offered us to pick where we want to sit as it was fairly quiet and she checked up on us and took our orders at the perfect times without being intrusive and she was so friendly. We had a laugh and she put a smile on my face she was brilliant. Maria thank you for your service and making our lunch an enjoyable experience.

Pretty dry atmosphere, the service took a while and no waiters were paying attention to use trying to get their attention. Pizza was leng icl, chilli oil was decent lol

Went in for a small dinner before evening plans. Our server, Emily, was delightful - attentive and very approachable. The restaurant was quiet and the atmosphere was lovely. Had a margarita pizza - very tasty. Will be back!

There is one Indian origin girl always disprespect if there is 5 min wait she deliberate said order will be ready in 20 months. And black mail I will complain your idol

Ordered via Deliveroo. Got the most disappointing pizza of my life. Burnt, so small, it was like eating cardboard. Literally wasted £20.

Too much rude behaviour of staff specially that one Asian may be Indian girl or may be Siri Lankan girl . For delivery orders orders are ready but she was not giving when I asked for order she started to blackmail with too much rude behaviour She was saying I will report you For just asking how long this order will take I would not recommend this restaurant for delivery driver don’t pic order that girl will definitely humiliate you without any reason as she does with all the Delivery drivers

Good food marred by poor service. It took nearly an hour for our food to arrive. Blaming the slow service on the fact that you’re busy is the same as blaming your customers and is not a valid excuse. Manager said she’d follow up with me about this but hasn’t seen fit to do so.

I wasn’t looking forward to this meal as the last Pizza Express we visited was a disaster … fortunately I was pleasantly surprised this time. Maria provided excellent and friendly service throughout our visit. All the pizzas on the menu were available, my beef burnt-ends pizza was strange as it was topped with stewed beef in gravy, rather than bbq burnt beef. That said it tasted okay. My fellow guests all said they enjoyed their own pizzas. Prices are London city-centre … service was great so this was a pleasant meal out.

If you’re looking for a child friendly lunch spot in St Albans, this is the place to go! The staff are super friendly and very accommodating to children. There are lots of high chairs and the kids meal is great value for money. We regularly go each week after nursery with our children and they enjoy the experience. The food for adults is consistently good too.

The waitress looked after our children's party of 6 kids while we sat away from them. Lovely food , fast and attentive staff , great time all round

We went for lunch today at pizza express (without a reservation) with 4 children. Nicol looked after us and she was fantastic. She read the situation well - the children were very hungry! We were swiftly seated, the children were kept entertained with chefs hats and crayons, and our food arrived without delay! The food was delicious and the service was 10/10. Thank you!

Says it was delivered. But we never received the order. We waited over 2 hours for this order and it never even arrived!!! Absolutely disappointed with the service!

Delivered 2 hours and 15 minutes after ordering - no idea how food was because we haven't eaten it - it went straight in the bin. Impossible to speak to anyone on phone or at the restaurant as they didn't bother to answer. Now awaiting promised refund before closing my account - won't be using your services again in future.

Best pizza in town!! I ve been there with a very fussy son and I had the surprise of my life, my son asked for more pizza!! Definitely will go again! The atmosphere was amazing and our waitress Lenka was extremely friendly especially with my baby! Thank you pizza express for everything definitely will come back soon!

Instead of calling us when the delivery person couldn’t find us, they cycled up and down our road 4 times (as seen on the map in app). Because of this, the pizza toppings were anywhere but the pizza, and the food was cold, soggy, and floppy. No fault to Pizza Express in my eyes, all on the delivery.

Poor as salad dry - nothing like the chicken Caesar I would normally expect from pizza express !! No dressing & eggs with no yolk !!

Went in today and was greeted by a very rude member of staff. They walked us to our table and threw down our menu and said “you have the table for 1 hour” and stormed off. Me and my partner left immediately. Very disappointed. Worst service I have ever received at that is location. Come in frequently and have never been treated this poorly.

Food with any Pizza express is always consistent, we've been to this branch a few times now with our child. The restaurant itself was maintained however it is not really pushchair/wheelchair accessible. There are a couple of steps to enter the building and again another little set to access the restaurant. We were fine with our pushchair as we carried, and I would expect they have ramps however it's something to consider for wheelchair users as it's quite a tight space. However what I will say I was very disappointed with was the state of the toilets. The units themselves weren't too bad, but the whole place (even the ladies) smelt of a mens urinal and needs a refurb as there are lots of signs of previous water damage, wear and tear etc and being a small building they are small cubicles.

The food was good but one member of staff had poor customer service skills. He cleared half of our table, then did something else. I saw him just standing at one point doing nothing… We asked him to finish clearing our table which he came over and did with the response “I only have two hands” in a snarky way. He never came back to our table. Later we saw he had taken off his jacket and was now wearing a chef’s hat. Very odd. Perhaps they were understaffed but to resort to being rude to the customers due to this doesn’t solve the problem. Shame. Makes me not want to go back. Luckily I don’t live in St Albans.

The food was good but unfortunately our waiter was very rude to me. Initially he was pleasant but took a long time to give us our dessert menu. He apologised and I told him that was fine, not to worry. When he came to clear our plates, he left half of them on the table for awhile. I saw him just standing at one point and called him over and very politely said that he was taking awhile to collect the rest of the plates. I was not rude, I was good natured. Whereupon he nastily said that God had only given him two hands . I was shocked and too polite to retort. He didn’t come back to our table. I have never been spoken to like that in a restaurant. Such a pity.

The pizza was soggy and undercooked

horrific service took an hour and a half to come and then it was stone cold. All they could give me was a store credit for a portion of what I paid. Disgusting.

Amazing food and fantastic service. We host a lot of events and we always use Pizza Express Verulam Road. Pizzas always arrive hot, delicious and top quality. Can highly recommend. Staff always go above and beyond. The management, the chefs, the waiters and waitresses are so welcoming and professional. Pleasure.

They missed out on stuff on the orders

Driver at restaurant for an hour. No updates. Not answering telephone. Delivery driver was fuming with the restaurant at being kept waiting. Delivery driver was very apologetic to us but clearly not his fault. Salad I ordered was leaves leaves and not a lot else. £14 joke and not funny. I was totally ripped off.

Super Staff . Super atmospher .

Despite it being much busier than usual due to Christmas parties, school breaking up and deliveries our waitress was lovely and seemed genuinely happy to serve us. Starters were brought out ASAP which is always a good sign and the wait for the pizza was worth it.

Somehow managed to burn 3 portions of calamari and 1 of 3 pizzas. Must have been training night

The staff are super friendly, the wine is delicious, and this was the best, freshest pizza I’ve ever had from any Pizza Express. I didn’t want to eat the whole thing… but I did and I regret nothing.

I ordered a romana pizza with doughballs on Uber Eats. Pizza was cold, congealed. Doughballs were hard. Uber won't handle the complaint so I rang the restaurant several times - no answer. £17 of food at unacceptable quality.

Cold when received and very little cheese on the pizza

The driver tried to deliver incorrect items !! I then phoned the restaurant and the lady I spoke to was like she was on another planet!! No offer of a refund or for the correct items to be delivered!! Shocking!!!!

We have ordered through Uber eats and I have to say it was the worst pizza what I ever had. Absolutely horrible! Cold, small, burnt, paid for extra olives and didn’t get them. Also ordered dough balls and it was missing from our delivery. We tried to contact them - not possible at all, only answering machine, no emails nothing to reach them. Haven’t received call back from the manager how to proceed refund for missing items. Never again…

Food was freezing cold and my drink was warm

We visit this pizza express often usually during the week. As gold member it makes the prices kind of reasonable for a family of 4. Service is usually decent, and the restaurant is quiet mid week as you would probably expect. I personally find the food a little underwhelming most of the time but my partner likes it as do my kids. One thing I do particularly enjoy is the Mushrooms with goats cheese as a starter.

Had an amazing dinner. Shan was absolutely fantastic and really kind. Highly recommended place

Had a kid's birthday party here. The waiters lacked experience in being party hosts and were not very engaging with the kids. I experienced a kid's birthday party at the Radlett branch, and the waiter (Ryan) there was absolutely amazing.

I'd love to give a review about the the food, but sadly I can't. We went Sunday just gone and the only excuse I could give would be they must be understaffed. Upon entering we waited to be seated. After 3-4mins of waiting the chef said to go grab a seat... Wherever we like. (The reason I have 2 stars instead of 1) I counted maybe 8 tables with customers. We sat, deliberated our options, picked a starter and a main, decided on our drinks, had enough time to to even consider a desert and still no waiter or waitress to be seen. Gave it another 5mins and then headed next door to The Ivy. Where I must say the service and food was spot on. Being in the service world myself, all I want is to be acknowledged. Tell me your super busy but you'll get to me in a minute. Tell me you're understaffed, but you'll be happy to take my order just after you seat the next customers. Or do what you did with us and say nothing at all. With all the options in St Alban's for food. I doubt Ill ever go back.

Local branch of this national chain. The decor remembers the physicist Stephen Hawking who attended the nearby At Albans School. Fast friendly service I'd recommend the Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomato Salad and the Fiorentinta classic pizza topped with egg, spinach and olives.

Ordered for 7pm arrived 7.40. Food could have hotter and pizza slices cut through but the food tasted good. This is my first experience of Just Eat.

Took my mum for a birthday lunch and it was awful, we actually ended up leaving before actually eating! It was empty in there and service was so slow!! Mums pizza came out completely wrong, then told us they didn’t have the sides we ordered ( they could have told us at the time of ordering) and my lasagne came out frozen still and the stuff/ manager were awful! If that’s how they serve food when it’s so quiet god knows what it’s like when busy!! Never again!!!!

Be Careful. DO NOT ORDER FEOM UBER EATS. noone answers the phone. We ordered on uber eats two hours ago. We are £50 poorer, hungry and IGNORED. Great range of items which fed 4 people and was delicious

Absolutely seamless !!! We were a work group of 26 that booked 2 hours before we arrived and then changed our arrival time 25 mins before we were due to arrive! We sent Cam, the manager our pre orders and within 5 minutes of sitting down we had our drinks orders taken and HOT food was being served !!! The chefs were great, the food was delicious, the waitress was incredible and the manager was over everything and was truly amazing ! What a great experience !!! Thank you guys !!!!

Had a pizza birthday party today for my daughter. Everyone enjoyed making pizzas and eating it. Our host was brilliant unfortunately didn't get his name. Young man was very polite and extremely helpful with all the queries.

The service was great - quick & friendly. Family friendly. Starter was dough balls al forno and that was delicious! Best thing, although a smaller portion than expected. The lasagna didn't resemble traditional lasagna as it was more soupy with too much cream served in a bowl rather than standing up on a plate. We also had the American pizza and the margherita pizza. American was ok - edible, just lacking in the flavor satisfaction area. For both pizzas you could taste the freshness of the dough. For the margherita, it was lacking flavor and needed more sauce - maybe some sliced fresh tomatoes on top along with some fresh basil leaves and perhaps some pieces of fresh mozzarella. Maybe some garlic oil or garlic butter brushed on the crust of both pizzas would help too.

Excellent food selection and quality with nice atmosphere.

Had a pizza party for my six year old and her friend (and 16 of their friends). The kids loved it, making pizzas with their friends and then tucking in. Nicole was our host and she was fab. 🍕

Bless the driver. He had to wait for an hour and a half for the food to be prepared. Thankfully, he utilised his time. Despite the late delivery time, the food was nice and tasty.

Poor quality pizza. Taste was ok but both pizzas we ordered were mostly burnt and just really ‘messy’. Feels like it would have been better to order a frozen one from a supermarket and cook it ourselves for a fraction of the cost!

Worst waitress service I have ever had. We arrived and the waitress came and asked for drink orders which we gave and she brought them all except one. She came and asked for food orders which we gave and asked about the missing drink order. She said she would bring it. Food arrived and still no drink plus some mistakes with the food. Asked about the drink and was told it would come. She fixed the food order still no drink. Eventually caught another waitress who brought us the missing drink. Came to order desserts and 3 or the desserts came and 2 of the drinks came then nothing. We were missing a drink and a dessert. Asked about the missing dessert and drink and was told they were coming. Waited another 10 minutes and asked for the missing drink and dessert still nothing. Caught another waitress and asked about the missing dessert and drink and they were brought right away. When we asked for the bill we had to wait 20 minutes to pay and eventually had to go and ask another waitress to pay because our waitress wouldn’t do anything. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy the entire time we were there. Food was good but if you like getting the food you have ordered absolutely do not come here.

My friends and I ordered pizzas to collect for a FIFTEENTH birthday celebration. We immediately received a bank confirmation and an email confirming the order as well as the payment having gone through to the restaurant.The email specified that the order would be ready to collect at 3pm, but when we arrived to pick up our pizzas, we were told that our order had not been received. We spoke to multiple members of staff, showing them the payment receipt and email, but were told that there was nothing we could do and that it was our own problem to sort out. They told us to just place another £30 order, which as you can imagine, was not possible as at 14 and 15 years of age, none of us had this money to be spending. The horrendous customer service reduced a 15 year old, who simply wanted to buy her friend a birthday meal, to tears. Do better Pizza Express.
