Visited here after reading reviews and was not disappointed. Had the 2 course meal for £13.95 and a large glass of wine for two of us, came to about £38.00 and the wine was good! Staff were very attentive and friendly. We will return.

We go to the little gourmet regularly and it never disappoints . A lovely place for breakfast, lunch or evening meal. The menu has so much choice with something to suit all tastes and is always cooked to perfection with good quality ingredients. The staff are so friendly, polite and welcoming. Definatly worth a visit

This was the second time that I have eaten here. The first time, I dined with two friends. We had the lobster ravioli, the risotto and the stroganoff. The food was excellent, well presented, a decent portion and full of flavour. Today I had the steak and blue cheese pasta. My wife had the cod with spinach and prawn roulade. Both were excellent. The service is polite, friendly and attentive. The prices are very reasonable - no meal costs more than £11. There is also a good, local real ales on offer. Overall, it was a wonderful place to have lunch.

Excellent food. We tried here for a late lunch, although the waitress was on her own and really busy she was very attentive to her customers. Very reasonably priced. We also tried the coffee and cake deal and breakfast during our stay, all excellent value and lovely staff

Honest constructive feedback. Wandering down Lord Street looking for lunch. Came in because the menu looked lovely. I ordered a rump steak with diane sauce, and husband ordered traditional fish and chips. I know good food and cook myself, and from the description was expecting French style bistro food…yum. When the steak came it , it was floating in a thin brown watery ‘gravy’ with tinned mushrooms and a cooked tomato. When I tried to cut it I found it was as tough as an old boot. It was awful, and as far from Steak Diane as you could get. My husband’s fish was mushy and tasteless. Chips and side salad were great! Service was very good, food not so. Very disappointed.

Called in for Brunch. Nice and clean, lovely atmosphere, pleasant staff. I had a breakfast wrap and hubby had a full English. VERY tasty, fresh and nicely presented. Saw a Sunday lunch, a couple of cocktails and some other rather delicious looking meals go by! Would 100% return and definitely recommend!

I often stay in Southport as I lived there for 7 years. I arrived last night for 1 weeks stay and searched for English breakfast – to find the Whistle stop café, which I had not been to before. So I went there this morning for the English breakfast. It lived up to the reviews on Trip advisor – quality ingredients especially the sausages, black pud and bacon. The latte coffee was so good that I had 2 glasses of it. The price of this quality breakfast was very reasonable by todays standards. I will be going back there for the English breakfast and Latte coffee before I leave Southport.

I recently used the Lunch Hour for a Wake. Marc was very helpful to pull together the food needed for the event, coordinating with the local venue where it was taking place, putting on an excellent variety of food. Highly recommended as they thought of everything, including providing takeaway boxes for any left overs. Thank you!
