I haven’t been to this restaurant for many years and recently saw they had won an award for their fish & chips (I think there are different owners) so we decided to give it a try. On their website it says they have ‘daily specials’ but when we arrived there was none for that day which was a little disappointing. Ordering is at the bar and we chose calamari and prawn dishes for starters, my prawns were lovely, perfectly cooked in a garlic butter but my friends calamari was slightly overcooked making it chewy (we told the waiter when he checked back). My main course was mussels cooked in wine and garlic and my friend chose fish and chips (hake) served with mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. My friend said the fish & chips were lovely, light batter and very tasty tartare sauce but my mussels were disappointing, very small and gritty (the sauce was good). Again I told the waiter and he offered a complimentary pudding but as we were both full at this point he took the calamari off the bill. When the bill came they also charged £2 for soda water which to be honest is normally free. All in all a bit of a mixed bag, I don’t know whether I would go back as we have a plethora of good seafood restaurants in this area but who knows?

Used to love this place before it changed hands. Now an overpriced chip cafe, nearly £22 for fish and chips, plus you have to watch some fifteen year old throwing it onto a plate before you are served.

We will avoid this restaurant. It's over-priced for what you get. Mediterranean chicken pasta £19.95. it was so hot with peppers and spices I genuinely could not taste anything being far to spicy for taste. Their basic chips had a odd taste certainly not what you would think they should taste off. This place exists because of the theatre next door. It would not last a month if customers were not using it as a 'meal&Show's place.Theres much better on the front

Wow, just wow, the cod and chips amazing I had mushy peas and also a side of curry sauce one of the best curry sauces I’ve tried!

Lovely friendly attentive staff. Great negronis ! Didn’t eat on this occasion . Staff very understanding and kind when I mislaid something . Lovely atmosphere, outdoor and indoor seating ; food looked great!

The most gorgeous food but the staff really make it such a wonderful place to end your evening. So diverse, so welcoming and so kind.

If you come to Torquay, you must come here! It's a beautiful place during the day and pretty at night, and it goes well with the sparkling colored lights. I think the good memories will remain for a long time~

Been 3 times walked out 3 times. Charge double to sit down in restaurant which I actually agree with. Then wait 35 mins for staff to stop discussing celebrity big brother and serve you even though you’ve pressed the service button over 1000 times.

Seaside food, great scampi, great service.

Brownie was delicious and still warm, and homemade ice cream was fabulous, but there were some issues with crunch in another dessert. Actually, the pastry was more like clay. Chips are fine. In my opinion this cafe is a little bit too overpriced.

Didn't end up eating here on Sunday as very expensive but did enjoy the coffee

Apologies if I’m reviewing the wrong place, they are side by side with the same logo above. It was your typical seaside fish and chips, over priced and really not very good. My local chip shop in a land locked county is far better and less than half the price.

I love this place highlight of my mini breaks. Good quality food local beer good too. Won several awards not surprising. Expect to pay a little more but fresh caught fish lovely. Staff friendly, kind, polite

This place is best visited in the out of season months This time of year is far too busy The food is poor and service is slow 20 to 30 minutes.Greek salad at £17.50 leave well alone A lot of money for a bowl of lettuce and very little else they obviously are capitalising and not a clue what this salad should have in it Beer was ok but double your order as again a long wait for a refill otherwise.Still a nice place to sit just a shame about the above.

What a wonderful place for an evening meal. Staff were very hospitable and went above and beyond to accommodate on short notice. Beyond that, the chefs cooked delicious meals. King prawn penne pasta, fresh pasta with chilli, very tasty and chicken Printanier, chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce, veg and creamy mash. All washed down with Don David reserve Malbec. With views across Torquay Bay. It's definitely worth going back to try more on the menu.

Lovely little spot, right on the coast. The staff were fantastic on our visit, very attentive and friendly! We had sea food which was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. I think we paid around 30 pounds each for our meals and drinks. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. I will be back 😊

Sun 21st July. We had a camembert cheese bake, with chips, and with ciabatta bread pieces. It was delicious. The staff were professional and pleasant. A very pleasant couple of hours enjoying a splendid and reasonably priced meal. Thank you Pier Point.

My wife dropped me off to order and pickup a takeaway to take home. I ordered 4 items and was told it would take around 8 minutes - they weren't busy. I went and sat on the wall opposite then heard my number called and went to the counter to find my takeaway order arrayed before me on the counter in neat little trays. I said I wanted a takeaway and received the most astonishing sneer from the young lady behind the counter who the then slowly and painfully wrapped everything up as the food gradually got colder. I don't know what her problem was but I don't need sneering at AND I'm a local and have eaten here frequently in the past - but not in the future. Then we got the food home. Oh Dear. Look at the signature picture for this restaurant of a plate of fish and chips with crispy, bubbly batter. That's what it should look like. What we got was a slab of even flat brown batter with fish inside. Cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough is the reason and it looked and tasted just like a slab of Lidl's frozen fish. The deep fried sausage in batter was a poor quality, pink meat, cash & carry special of the worst quality. Most of the meal went in the bin and if the attitude of the serving staff is anything to go by, all this Restaurant will care about is that they've got our money.

We were greeted by a lovely young lady called Makeda who received us so beautifully. She ensured we were seated comfortably out of the hot sun and our walker was safely stowed. She explained how things worked and left us. We placed our order which was soon served together with our drinks. Beautifully presented and delicious. Thank you for a lovely experience

We sat down in an ENTIRELY empty resturaunt and was told the table was reserved... no reserve signs. They could see me looking around in confusion in the empty returaunt and as i got uo to leave eventually put out reserve signs at every table near the window. There were ZERO people inside so was a daft and hostile gesture in their part.

Delicious food. We had the fish platter and it was well cooked, batter was crispy and the fish was tender. Great vibes by the sea and very friendly staff.

Was one of my favourite places to visit till today. There were ZERO people in the resturaunt yet after selectng a table to sit at was told cant sit there.... in the EMPTY resturaunt. Was even told politely or explained why. Maybe put reserved signs out first instead o flinging them in the tables after the fact as it looks hostile. Remember when people were polite and customer service existed. I was so excited to visit this morning and was saying how good it was to my friend then this happened. Very odd. For the money go back to good service I'm happy to pay over the odds of the service is good. Your service is no longer as good so make sure you improve it to bring it back in line with your prices. Customer service is king . I hope this goes back to how it wa soon

We wanted to go for a nice dinner meal and we came across a seafood restaurant in a beautiful seaside view locations. We was delightfully greeting by a lovely blonde female who showed us to our seats was making good conversation and then explained how the table service worked, we then proceeded to order some drinks and the service speed was impeccable, a tatted man called Andrew came to our table and recommended a blue margarita which was exceptional and he also was making conversation and asking how our holiday was going. After 10 minutes or so we couldn’t decide what to eat so we asked a waiter for suggestions and a young lad called Alfie suggested the burger which he said was outstanding from personal experience and that the cod and chips were always great pick and it definitely was up to the high standards alfie had set. When i next visit devon i will definitely be coming back not just for the food but for the amazing service these 3 lovely people gave myself and my family.

I had the highly rated fish and chips from the take away kiosk. All I can say is wow. The fish and chips were superb The batter was crispy and delicious with a unique flavour and no grease. Chips and the home made Tartare sauce are also top quality and the presentation is nice. I did not think Hanbury's could be beat in the Torbay area however I'd say the fish and chips at Pierpoint are on the same level.

Got there about 1pm. Good service and the food was good. Let's just say my stomach was full afterwards. Would recommend.

We came in for Lunch And ordered the mussels and seabass. Both of them tasted great but nothing special and every other place in Torbay I’ve had mussels come to the same standard with better atmosphere. The portion sizes and the price Of the Food do not reflect in my opinion. The mussels looked more like a starter. The price of £22 and only receiving 25 mussels was poor. It was served with only three slices of bread with the thickness of Melba toast and was hard, so it couldn’t properly absorb the cream sauce, so I ended up leaving the sauce, even though it’s one of my favourite parts of this meal. For a main course and the price you should leave the restaurant feeling contently full, I feel like this should be explained on the menu how small the portions are so you have the option to order more if needed.

Had a nice meal here and enjoyed my. mocktail, food a little pricey compared to others in the immediate area. Nice atmosphere, music playing in background. Lots of staff.

Brilliant food, excellent value and the staff are exceptional. We visited twice in a week, having seafood linguine both times, which tasted great , was a decent size portion and very good value. Alcohol prices are cheaper than alot of pubs and Coffee is also very good and well priced. The staff are very polite, very helpful and attentive but not intrusive. Our new favourite restaurant in Torquay.

Really loved this place, ideal location right opposite the beach. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful, but special shout out to Kieran who made the extra effort to chat and was really knowledgeable x

Great little restaurant. Loved the call buzzer order system. Not the cheapest but then you get what you pay for. Thoroughly recommend the king prawn starter was excellent. Went for the fish and chips and was not disappointed. Some of the specials a little small but made up for with the chips!

Only stopped for a quick coffee but staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the button you press to get table service didn't appear to work as no one came to take our order.

I asked for the daily specials and was told lobster or mackerel, asked if I could have mackerel and salad, this was not possible as it was mackerel and chips and can't be changed! Bit disappointed as no one asked if there were any allergies or dietary requirements! On this note I would NOT recommend this place to eat. Great start to our stay in Torquay!!!!!

Well went there tonight for cod and chips ,fish was a con as so thin and all batter and chips average and not surprised as lack of staff only one serving who was very nice but slow and one frying . The poor guy asked if someone could help take orders but to no avail . How this place is award winning is beyond me . Expensive waste of money . 2 people that were queuing walked away as could not get served . Absolute joke

Visited a couple of evenings ago, billed as the best chip shop in the South West, much more than a chippy the best fish restaurant in the South West. Food fantastic (had mussels and lobster), staff great, decor lovely (think a vintage cocktail lounge) and one of the best views I've had dinning looking out over a beautiful Torbay evening.

Nice fish and chips restaurant that came 2nd in the fish and chips awards 2024. Ordered haddock and chips with extra curry sauce because the meal came with mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce. Ate in the restaurant and all were lovely with the excellent tartar sauce being better than the lovely home made one at Rockfish on the harbour. The large haddock was nice, not massive but not small, and the batter tasted lovely. Chips nice, curry sauce and mushy peas both very good. Lots of soft drinks and a licensed bar available. Round seating booths are roomy and staff are polite and nice with a button on the table to press for service. As a note, the same fish and chips are served on the adjoining outside takeaway hatch and are cheaper and you can eat them on the many seats outside on Princess Pier. The inside is quality though and worth a visit if you can afford it. Even though it is highly rated by me and many, it is my second favourite in the Torquay area as I prefer Crusoe's in the Willows for massive portions sizes, great chunky chips and fresh tasty haddock. Best on the sea front though. I prefer it to Hanbury's and Drakes in Babbacombe and Saltwater and Rockfish on the harbour. I also prefer it to the London Fryer in Paignton (they do fried monkfish!) and Paul's Plaice in Torquay (battered chips). (Not in the same league as the Magpie Cafe in Whitby or Cod's Scallops in Wollaton, Notts - just calling it).

We were staying in nearby Brixham and a previous guest had recommended this place in the guest book and so booked. We chose moules mariniere, a main, to share as a starter. We dived in, hence no photo. Succulent, plump fresh mussels in a light but garlicky cream sauce with thin toasted ciabatta to dip in. The menu is not huge (always a good thing) but plentiful for all but as soon as we saw half a Lobster Thermidore as a special we were sold. I cannot describe how good it was but will try: lobster was cooked to perfection, but the sauce! Shallots, cream, wine, a hint of chilli and heavy on the parmesan. Could have drank it as a soup. We shared a refreshing tarte aux citron after, all washed down with a good shiraz and a glass of prosecco. If you are in or near Torquay, this place is a must!

So we had lunch, not the first time at the Pier Point ,but this time tried something different, mussels. I must say it was delicious, only could ne more bread, as I left still half way hungry. The price for it was 20 pounds. ...

Best fish and chips in the South West! We had a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. The staff were outstanding. They were attentive, informative, speedy and the hardest working staff I've seen in a long time! Especially given it was during the busy air show. The food was exceptional, we had the squid rings, fish and chips, mussels and deserts. It was all delicious! One of the party was gluten free and was expertly catered for. There were lots of gluten free options across the menu, including drinks (gf beer), starters, mains and desserts. There were so many options, it was hard to choose! We'll have to go back to try them all! The gluten free batter was 10/10, crispy and tasty and done in a separate fryer so gf guaranteed. The brownie dessert was out of this world (please see picture). Warm, gooey, and chocolatey. Very rare to get such delicious gluten free options and to have a 'normal', safe and enjoyable dining experience for someone with Coeliac disease. The venue itself was really lovely, inside was beautifully decorated and it has two large outdoor seating areas, including one facing the sea. Overall a 5* dining experience, 10/10 food, wonderful staff and 3 very full and happy customers.

Expensive for Torquay, staff skilled in upselling extra sauces etc. Large family groups are seated at the rear so don't get the great views available. There are better places within 10 minutes walk.

Visited (31/05/24) The food is amazing here. Probably the best fish sandwich I've ever had. Honestly. The fish could've been bigger for the price though. I also bought a gluten free fish and chips for my partner who is coeliac that were massive. Twice the size of my sandwich. She said they tasted amazing. Nice size portion. We always come her every year when we visit the area. Sadly today’s visit was quite disappointing. Service was quite poor compared to all previous visits, almost like we were inconveniencing the waiter. It didn’t help that the button on the table either wasn’t working, or they were ignoring us. The table was wobbly, nobody came to check on us at any point, the menus were left on the table and kept getting blown away (we gave up trying to save them in the end). The food is the only reason for the stars given, burger was delicious, even though they were £20 each. No salt for the chips though, and it comes on an annoying platter board still so you can’t empty the chips out, and everything falls onto the table. Also, those tiny bottles of coke belong on the kids menu. Grown up prices deserve grown up bottles.

Nice place with great view to the Harbour. The dinner is delicious, big portions so many chips were left. Lovely staff willing to help.

It was a shame as weve been before and it was good, but now very over priced fish n chips. We were sat inside next to the bar and toilets. Not great. Air con on although not hot. When I asked about it I was told it was on for the staff at the bar. Food went cold really quickly, so we were disappointed and wish Id have said something. The biggest thing was how vile and rude the Im presusuming female bar tender possibly manager was. She was rude and spoke disgustingly to colleagues and I felt really sorry for them. At one point she looked over at me as she must of realised I had clocked her behaviour! A complete bully!! She then became quieter as I was ready to speak to the manager of the resterant. My advice would be to speak to staff individually to see how they feel working with her and take it from there, however very unprofessional infront of paying customers! A really lovely place to sit outside and have drinks if the weather is fine, food normally good, but our experience this time was poor.

We stopped for drinks in bad weather with the dogs we were greeted on arrival and they were very welcoming with the dogs in the shielded outside area with umbrella roof and heaters. Ordered by pressing a service button at the table, the greeter, waitress and servers were all smiling, friendly, chatty and showed great customer service. Coffee and cake were great and enjoyed by all of us. Lovely place to stop for lunch, you pay a slight bit more but on the seafront it's to be expected. Would definitely come back!

If you want fish and chips - avoid the takeaway! I can't speak for the restaurant and I feel very sad to leave this review as it's not the owners fault. The service from the takeaway bar was appalling. A single young lady asked for her single fish and chips to be wrapped and the guy with few teeth told her it was not a problem. He wrapped her (single) box and then put it into a paper bag for her to carry as the heavens had just opened and it was pouring with rain. When we were served -despite the rain and 2 very young children in a double buggy- with 2 cod and chips 2 curry sauce to the tune of £30 something. I was told to CLOSE THE BOX. Which was impossible. No paper bag offered. To add insult to injury we pretty much ate batter and mash for dinner. This was our only fish and chips of our holiday and we have been left extremely disappointed.

There was a hair in one of our chips and the server investigated it like we were being picky by not eating it. Food was decent enough but servers didn't really know what was what on the menu.

We visited on a wet Tuesday early evening so it was quiet. The service was friendly, the food tasty but it was very expensive.

Always excellent fish and chips. Visited on busy bank holiday and managed to get a table at lunchtime without reservation. Lovely views, the button on the table to call for service is great idea, when it works. Very unusual WC set up, it is unisex with glass opaque doors into cubicles, guess it was the best solution they could find for limited space. Overall it's lovely place and we keep returning every few months for amazing fish and chips.

Simply outstanding! Great food, a tad pricey to be fair but the staff and atmosphere are excellent! So much so we booked twice in the same week. Set in a cracking spot right on the harbour making it an easy stroll for us who aren't great on our pins. Well worth booking a table here as it can fill up quickly. Nathan squeezed us in on our first visit so we booked the second time. Try the stuffed peppers.... My days they're a treat!

Can’t believe people don’t mention the toilets here more - unisex with frosted glass doors on each toilet - so awkward to use would put me off going again. Man waiting in a line of women waiting said he felt so uncomfortable , everyone commenting how horrible they are, I felt really self conscious using them ! also the smell was disgusting in there !!! Other than that it’s a nice place !

Excellent greeting on entering the restaurant ideal table with sea view. Each table has a button to press for attention rather than trying to catch the waiter. This improves the service greatly. Good choice of bar drinks including cocktails. The fish we ordered was of the best quality , delicious and well presented . A little pricey but was worth it for the quality on offer. A really good restaurant experience.

Award winning. What a joke. Voted by who? The Seagulls? What a dismal offering. Four of us dined here with friends on Saturday evening and 3 of the four in our party had the small fish and chips. The small Portion which will set you back a mere £14 because the large ??? Is Almost £20. Believe me the small Portion turned out to be small and will not be filling. You also have to fork out £19 plus plus plus for curry sauce etc. The chips were definitely undercooked and the fish was boring. I had the Sea Bass which will set you back £21.95. it was dry and arrived without the dill sauce. Sea Bass served on a smatter of a piece of courgette and sweet pepper. Really? Award winning, not in our experience. We had two mocktails which had to be returned as it was made up of the cheapest of cheap sugared apple juice tasted like cartoned stuff and some top up liquid. We didn't complain about the food as we've already had to send our drinks back. No atmosphere about the place. It was packed outside with people just having a drink. No atmosphere inside where we sat. We will not return and we will not recommend.

Had a takeaway from the Fish and Chip counter. I chose a Chip Butty. The chips were excellent but the roll was dry and a little stale, unfortunately. The staff service was very good and friendly, only the dry roll let it down.

Fantastic fish restaurant, very friendly staff, beautiful views over looking the bay. Whether it be for take away fish and chips, lunch, evening meals in the restaurant the choice is yours.
