We had a great evening celebrating with family; Rosie the new landlady was brought in a wealth of enthusiasm, warmth and developmental ideas to enhance the atmosphere, coupled with a great choice of drinks. Thanks for your commitment to ensure us regulars enjoy good Real Ale in clean pumps, difficult to find at other establishments. Clean and tidy throughout, tasteful decor with a welcoming team of staff. Rosie has different acts and entertainment available through the week, plenty of seating, though I do suggest arriving early to get the best seats. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

This locals' wet pub is getting more popular by the day under its new manager, Rosie and her team. Jazz has returned on the second Monday of the month and live contemporary every other Saturday. The cosy log fire is also back! Three well kept real ales and a victim of their own success over the weekend as wine stocks run dry.🇬🇧🇳🇿

2 of the 3 real ales ran out on a weekend settled for Gold 8/10. Was older bric a brak interior and graseed exterior now basic interior and woodchip exterior, suppose to save on cleaning and lawnmowing. Free parking for about a dozen cars to hidden rear entrance carpark and plenty nearby street parking. Nice Bar lady and atmosphere.

Delighted to return to this traditional locals' pub upon reopening yesterday under new manager Roselie. Busy and atmospheric. An excellent pint of Jail Ale and she proposes to get proper standard bottles of wine in rather than the previous tiny bottles. She also proposes to serve three real ales. The pub was spotlessly clean, another plus after the previous management. Thankfully it seems this pub will remain traditional with no telly and log fires in winter. I understand the once a week jamming sessions will continue and hopefully live jazz once a month. Roselie is absolutely lovely and engaging with her punters. Long may it continue! Proper pub for conversation and doggy friendly. Support your local pubs!🇬🇧🇳🇿

Popped in on a Thursday afternoon for a quick pint. Apparently this was a top real ale pub before COVID came along. It seems to have been decorated and renovated before reopening and is now a fairly plain and modern bar. A choice of three cask beers were available including Butcombe Gold, Dartmoor Jail and a (remarkably unremarkable) Sharp's beer called Sea Fury.

If you want a pub i.e not a restaurant . Want to be able to sit down and not have to negotiate loads of people balancing plates of overcooked meat piled high with assorted, again, overcooked veg; then this might be the pub for you. No piped music , just and decent pint in comfortable surroundings. Its known as a local pub.

I've been in here many of times with the new own Colin and the last owner. This pub still a great pub. The beer is kept well and it's a pleasant place to have a drink away from that awful torquay town centre. I know alot of this pub has remained the same over the years. However there are alot less ales on offer than what their used to be. This pub is much brighter now that it used to look. This really look like a good old fashioned English pub with lots of character and get a nice bunch of customer in who are friendly but loud lol. This is always a great pub to relax in and is very warming. Try it out and be surprised we'll done Colin for managing the bar so we'll on your own it can't be easy.

Lovely local pub. Not as characterful or as authentic as it used to be before refurbishment. And selection of ales and ciders narrower and more conventional. But still a nice pub. It's a shame they ruined the garden too.

After over two years of being closed from the start of lockdown hysteria it was wonderful to be back on opening evening last Friday. Now refurbished but thankfully retained as a traditional locals' village pub. 6 real ales plus the usual kegs, log fires, no distracting telly. Conversation and bonhomie! Jazz will return I understand. It was a great feeling to be back. Heaving with locals by the time we left. Richard, Anita and the team have done a great job. Thankyou for helping to preserve a St Marychurch institution and not allow another pub to be lost to another bloody charity shop or flat conversion. 🇬🇧🇳🇿🍻🎷🇺🇦

UPDATE -CLOSED!! A great loss in my opinion . A Heritage Real Ale pub with interesting decor. 7-8 different ales on tap. Always a good conversation to be had at the bar with landlord Dave and anyone else who might join in..... Open fire in the colder months. Jazz on Tuesday nights and often Folk type music at the weekends. Quality of the Ale is outstanding every time.

Following lockdown. This is the only proper, traditional pub in St Marychurch and the whole of Torquay if the truth were known. Two separate bars, public and lounge. Log fires. No television. Who needs telly in a pub for crying out loud? No less than seven superbly kept real ales on pump, including at least one guest which on occasions may be up to 10%. Wow! Needless to say in the Good Pub Guide. Whilst primarily a wet pub, the food is excellent when available. Dreadful wine I'm afraid so enjoy the beer! When in Rome....... Come back! We miss you. Oh, and by the way, traditional live jazz every Tuesday night.

Oh do hope so. Our last visit early January before heading for our winter jaunt to New Zealand. This great and proper pub now shut along every other pub in the UK during this Covid 19 curfew. Here's a few of the local scenes at night..." But beware! Misbehave and the pub landlord DAVE might bite!?!!" Ha ha NO not on your nelly! You will not be disappointed!!..I have read a couple of reviews saying service is slow this is because the landlord Dave is in the cellar tending to the 7/8 real ales that he has many CAMRA awards for & lets not forget Patience is a virtue and All good things come to those who wait!!!..Go to the Crown if you desire a good night sup plenty & make your own mind up!..
