We visited "Pieminister" at "The Covered Marked," which is at Unit 56-58, Covered Market, Oxford OX1 3DX on Saturday night in November feeling cold and hungry, however, what an amazing experience we had after tasting the most popular and delicious pies in the world! We ordered Kate and Sidney with gravy, Fungi Chicken with Gravy and Earl Grey. Everything was tasty. the service was fast and pleasant. We paid £18,50 which is not cheap, but we don't regret this because we enjoyed the Christmas spirit and Victorian Oxford. I would recommend to "Pieminister" to display napkins and sugar for customers as we had to ask for them. Thank you for a lovely time!

I am absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated at Pieminister Covered Market today. What should have been a pleasant lunch stop turned into a truly awful experience, thanks to the unbelievably rude and aggressive behaviour of two members of staff. Initially, one of the men (black hair, moustache) told me it was fine to take photos and videos as long as he wasn't in them, which I readily agreed to. I waited until the second server (red hair) had moved away from the counter before filming the pies on display, ensuring no one was in shot. While zooming in on the overhead menu, I inadvertently captured the first man in the frame for a second, I simply didn't see him as I was focused on the menu. The red-haired server then proceeded to shout at me, claiming I had been told no one was allowed to be filmed. Both he and his colleague were incredibly demeaning and hostile, raising their voices and making me feel extremely uncomfortable and bullied. Despite apologising profusely and explaining it was an accident, they continued their tirade, even suggesting they should put up signs banning photography because their boss wouldn't like it. Their behaviour was completely unacceptable and frankly, shocking. I was left feeling intimidated and upset, and they utterly ruined what was otherwise a lovely day in Oxford. This one negative encounter has cast a shadow over my entire trip. Sadly, it seems I'm not alone in experiencing this appalling customer service. Having read other reviews, it appears that rudeness from staff is a recurring theme at Pieminister Covered Market. This suggests a serious problem with the culture and training within this establishment. Pieminister, you seriously need to address the attitude of your staff. This is not how customers should be treated. I will certainly never return and will be sharing my experience with everyone I know.

The pie was okay but was bit too salty for my taste. Because we had little time, we finished the pie in less than 10 minutes and we were getting ready. Then the male server came on and took our dishes and napkins away(even before I use the napkin after eating the pie) without a word. That man's behaviour was very rude and has to be fixed for next customers.

A very bad experience having lunch here, the boy who served me was in quite a hurry and even though he was only supposed to serve me, there was no one waiting after me, he rushed me and arrogantly repeated what I told him. The food did not have a well-defined flavor and seemed to me something closer to an industrially prepared dish. Let's leave aside the well-known English hygiene, dirty tables and dishes of dubious cleanliness, the service was almost zero. The point is that these funny guys had the courage to ask for a tip.......But what is the tip for???? The answer is yours.

But we all got something to eat with the exception of one of us, who had a terrible mustard allergy. We asked if they had an allergy menu to be told it was online. But we couldn't get any signal there, and that appeared to be that as far as the staff were concerned. As a Londoner I have a good knowledge and experience of Pie and Mash meals. Considering the best authentic pie and mash shop in London (which serves gluten free deep pastry pie, double scoops of mash, liquor, peas) charges approx £7 or less. The comparative of one shallow pie and and not much mash (which didn't seem to be made with butter and little to no milk), without mushy peas (they are not gluten free), and without liquor (they don't sell it!?!?), but with some gf gravy; cost a few pence short of £10 is somewhat audacious. This shop was a disappointment for a list of reasons: The meal was not at all great. I have enjoyed supermarket gluten free frozen pies far better. It was served to me in a box (the person who took my order told me from the get go that he was going to only give me a takeaway box, a dinner plate was somehow not an option) which seemed to be a deterrent for me to eat in. The following episode made me quite willing to not remain on the premises: When taking my order he was just talking fast at me not looking at me or even standing still in front of me to take my order. He was just walking off all over the place behind the counter. I needed a gluten free pie, I was trying to find out which pies I could have and what their content was. He just wouldn't stand still and speak with me. If the excuse is that he was busy, the order took far longer because he just didn't stand still in front of me to advise then take my order in a straightforward efficient manner. He was also quite rude when I returned after a 20 minute wait for the pie to cook. When I made a reference to the sign in the shop requesting for reviews to be left online his flippant response was: "I don't care about reviews. I am not likely to be here for long anyway". This was when my food was meant to be served to me (at the same counter the order is placed and where other customers are placing food orders), again he was not bothering to assist me. I brought to his attention that while he was being rude and obnoxious there are other customers present. He then apologised to them (not me) and initiated the action to take their food orders (which he more than once got wrong). The saving grace in the dining experience was another member of staff, Devon, who seemed to be the kitchen person and clearer in the dining area. He took over my food order and kindly dished up and brought my food to me. He was incredibly gracious and made apologies for his colleague. This is clearly a quality member of staff who most likely bears the brunt of the front of house colleague who handles the food orders and payments. I only had to experience the rude and arrogant staff member for a short time, and I am certain never again (as I will NOT be returning), but Devon who is a true gem of a member of staff most likely has to exercise patience and grace all day long in order to work with his colleague. In summary: the price is ostentatious considering London pie shops offer better pies, larger servings, and with authentic liquor. The front of house staff seems to struggle to deliver any competent or polite customer service, and he is quite arrogant. Nothing about the location, service or food justifies the cost of £9.95 which exceeds all London pie and mash shop prices.

I have Coeliac disease and have to eat gluten free. We were visiting Oxford from NZ and didn’t know anywhere to go where I might get something to eat as we have found getting good gf food difficult during our past 2 months here in the UK. Pieminster advertised they do gf pies so we thought we’d give it a try and we were not disappointed. I had a delicious chicken, ham and leek pie whilst my husband and our friends had variations of the Moo pie. All 4 of us were very happy with our choices and if we were in the area would go back. I note some comments about pies not being available or a wait to get served. There were some pie options that weren’t available but there were plenty of other choices. I was advised by the guy who served us I would have to wait 15mins for my pie which was fine and it was hot and crisp (which can be a challenge with gf pastry) when I got it. I didn’t realise this is a chain of stores but if the others are half as good as the one in Oxford I’d say great.

Terrible. I went 3 times during the lunch period, each time they were out of pies and told me they were cooking more giving me times and each time I’d come back to them having no more pies, or a couple very obscure vegetarian pies. There were people walking away hungry each time, so why didn’t they just cook more?? The staff clearly didn’t care. I eventually got the last steak and stilton pie and it was really gross. The stilton was so overpowering I couldn’t taste anything else… and almost no meat in it.

I visited Pieminister because it came highly recommended and I was not dissapointed. Unfortunately we arrived almost at closing time so the pie options left was not great, but the one we had was still delicious. Go and have your lunch there, it's a must

Seems like some people have had issues with the cleanliness during their visit. We had no such issues—and my wife pays particular attention to those elements, notably the health code violations. The pies were delicious. I had a traditional beef and ale, my wife had a chicken one with peas and such. I went back for a second and got the chicken tikka. The cheesy mash potatoes were also great. I was told you always get gravy and have no issue to doubt this advice ex post. The only issue was that I ate so much that I was full for the next day and a half.

I never ate a pie before, so I can't compare, but I enjoyed it very much. Not the best foto, but I swear - it was delicious.

We went there at Saturday lunch time so it was pretty busy. But they offer a wide range of options, with vegan gravy. Pretty authentic place, and the staff was nice. Affordable too.

Our first time in Oxford. We found the covered market & then had to make the difficult decision of what to eat. As huge pie & mash fans we have had some of the best in Whitby & Bridgnorth so had to try a new place. We were certainly not disappointed. A good selection of pies & sides to choose from at a very reasonable price. You can't beat homemade pastry. Delish! We will be back from the Midlands as soon as we can ✴️✴️✴️✴️✴️😋

Your sign said to leave a review. I find this very brave when your customer service couldn't even be described as minimal. We received our pies, asked for cutlery. I was pointed towards two empty boxes. No explanation given had to wait 5 minutes for more cutlery to be forthcoming. I asked for tap water was pointed towards and empty fridge. When asked the lady behind the till simply grunted then produced some luke warm water from a dirty carafe. So maybe remove the sign begging for good reviews until you could provide a service above that of a prison cafe.

Super tasty! Do not be intimidated by the line, it moves quickly. That said they will be out of more popular pies by noonish. I enjoyed my Moo and Bloo as well as Chicken Tikka.

I went to ‘PIE MINISTER’ with a friend that came visiting from the US, and we were astounded to hear the answer of the guy behind the till, which was ‘There’s no pies, I’m afraid. The delivery will arrive tomorrow’. Are you telling me there’s no pies at PIE MINISTER at 12:30 pm on a Tuesday? Thank God The Chequers Pub was very close and we ended up eating some nice homemade pies. I understood by the answer of the staff that Pies at PIE MINISTER are far from fresh as they receive them by delivery, which means they’re frozen. If you want to have a proper experience eating British pies, do yourself a favor and away from this place.

When planning our trip to Oxford, Pieminister was a must visit. As someone with Coeliac, it is very rare to find a pie and mash shop that caters to my dietary requirements. It's a good location, surrounded by interesting shops, and slotted well into our day of visiting local attractions. On arrival, it was empty, and we were able to order straight away. There is a good choice of gluten-free options, and the price is very reasonable. When it came to sitting down, all the tables had empty dirty plates and the same on the bar at the window. The serve was sat behind the counter on their phone when we arrived, so they clearly had time to clear and clean the tables but chose not to. Now, the pie and mash itself were the best I have ever tasted. It was fresh, it was packed with filling, and the flavour was divine. There are no local restaurants to where I live, but if given the chance, I would dine here again, without a doubt.

Went in three weeks ago on a weekend. Delicious pie and mash but very poor service from the lady with the short hair. Seemed incredibly brash and rude to myself and others. The young guy however was very friendly.

Always a good option for a filling tasty meal. We went for all the trimmings and it was about £.10.50 but well worth it.
