Brilliant service from Charlie, came in for a few drinks on my mates birthday and was very helpful with recommending a drink

Came for lunch with my mum. 2 lovely glasses of wine, 1 great chicken burger and 1 nice onion and vegan goats cheese tart. Prices on the higher side but this was a special occasion so didn't mind. Food was delicious. Service was friendly but a bit slow. Would reccomend if looking for a nice spot in the centre with a good beer garden.

Great stop for sunday roast. The roast chicken and roast sirloin were well cooked and flavorful. I particularly loved the roasted carrots and parsnips! Well crafted drinks from the bar and a lovely ambience add to the experience. Would definitely recommend stopping here!

Selected this place for dinner for our last meal in Oxford before flying to NZ. I was left waiting to order and pay for 10 minutes at the bar while staff just ignored the growing queue. Took 43 minutes for our food to arrive even though place wasn't busy. We ordered more drinks when food was delivered - they never showed up and when my daughter started to eat her chicken pie there was a massive hair in it. We managed to get a refund for that meal but it put the rest of us off our food. We ended up just walking out. A really crap ending to a lovely few days in Oxford. Wouldn't recommend at all.

6 of us in Oxford for the weekend, we had Sunday lunch here. I can’t praise the staff enough, we arrived an hour early as it was raining fully intending to sit at the bar until our table was ready. They found us a table and cleared it quickly so we could sit. Connor, our waiter was still fairly new to the job but he took our drink orders and they arrived fairly quickly (all different cocktails, all excellent) After much deliberation over the menu we all had different combinations from the Sunday Roast menu. Again all wonderfull, beef very tender and cooked to everybody’s taste. Condiments supplied in generous portions. More drinks ordered, again very good. Connor got everybody’s desert order correct despite lots of different choices and lots of changes, the mini desert and cocktail option is a winner, he did a marvellous job looking after 6 people. No hesitation in recommending the Red Lion for Sunday Roasts and cocktails

The staff was not helpful, we come in and asked for table and they didn’t help much as they have 2 areas (restaurant and bar) we ended up seating on the restaurant area and toke ages for someone come ask for the order The food was quite nice

Both belly pork and roast beef Sunday dinners were delicious. Particularly good service with food served hot and promptly.

Average place for a beer and a burger. They also had scallops that were amazingly good, which I highly recommend to be tried.

Great pub ..almost lively and warm atmosphere

I had fish and chips but fish had far to much sea salt flakes on it. The seabass was lovely & the vegan burger was lovely. We asked for a £30 bottle of red wine( cheapest) and waiter said we don't have any of that but we have this, and tried to get us to buy a £50 bottle. Bit pricey. Visiting from Northern Ireland to see a show at the New Theatre.

I came into The Red Lion for lunch and had such a great experience. The food was exceptional and the bar tender, Vivian, was very friendly and made the place feel cozy. The establishment is very nice and accommodates for everyone. Vivian even brought out a game for me and my friend while we waited. I could not recommend this place more!!

Really disappointing. Booked table for 2.30. Not ready when we arrived due to the volume of walk-ins that had been accepted and then there were no roasts left. At least the waitress told us quickly.

Changing my score from 4 to 2 stars, been in there before, and it was lovely…..until today. My partner was really impressed when we get in, by the decor, me and my daughter already have been in here a few times. We ordered the food, which took ages to come to the table, and that is where the disappointment starts. The fries in all the plates was almost cold, and the rest of the food was like lukewarm. I could have said something at the time, the reason I didn’t, it was because we where so hungry, and the replacement would take ages, and I was not in the mood for a discussion, so just decided to swallow. I gave 2 stars because is a dog friendly place, if it wasn’t that, I would give 1 star. There are better places around, and cheaper than The Red Lion.

What was really pleasing today was the staff. Very helpful and very friendly. On arrival, we were well looked after. Throughout the afternoon we spent there the staff that served us couldn't be any more helpful. The food was OK, it wasn't standout. My wife ordered a burger that was undercooked, but staff replaced it with a fresh one. The atmosphere was good and suited us for chatting and catching up with friends. There was a function with a disco most of the later afternoon into the evening, which gradually got louder and started to impact our evening. But to be fair, the staff did warn us in advance, and we chose to stay, but it still impacted our day. Overall, good pub great staff with average food but would happily go back just won't have the burger.

Been twice now, once mid week and once at the weekend. Definitely book if you want to go at the weekend. Good food, good service, good atmosphere. Will go again.

Not too long ago, I dined here, and while the food was excellent, the highlight of my visit was Alexandra’s exceptional service. She was attentive, friendly, and made the experience far better than the meal itself. If you go, I hope you’re lucky enough to have her as your server!

Went for my birthday dinner with my girlfriend , can not complain about anything, from the minute we were seated our servers dina and Alex where phenomenal very attentive but not overbearing , food was fantastic portion sizes generous, will be going back highly recommend

Dinner for 2 on a Friday night in a secluded dining area. Booked for 7:30pm. Excellent waiting staff. The posh ginger ale was not so nice - lots of additional ingredients and a sweetener. The belly pork dish was nice, but the belly pork itself was slightly stewed for me (partner loved it though). Lovely scallops and outstanding gravy. Surf and turf was quite good - I thought the gravy from the belly pork went very well with the steak, mushrooms, and chips. Alas, no chocolate bomb this evening, but it is usually excellent. Had a cookie with 3 spoons of ice-cream, which was nice. My partner enjoyed the triple mini-desserts; although the raspberry sauce for the lemon tart seemed to be a strange combination.

Red Lion is in a great location, decorated nicely and is clean. Always a great atmosphere. Drinks are decent and glasses and spotlessly clean. We had a long wait at the bar as only one poor lady seemed to be serving but she was very polite when she did. Possible staffing issues as only the one young lady serving on a busy Saturday teatime.

I had a great time with my group of seven. Service was fast and friendly. David mostly serviced our group and really added to the experience, Loved the look of the place too. Would highly recommend especially with people like David.

Service was not as expected, so many things went wrong there..3 glasses instead of 4, when we all ordered wine, food didn't come together as asked, failing to bring sauces, etc.. The place is nice and relatively clean, and the toilet are megical victorian happy place for women 😀

Great food and excellent service, though the atmosphere is understandably noisy, given it’s a pub. I recommend trying the three-course meal to fully enjoy the variety of flavors. The kids’ menu is generous as well. The staff are polite and attentive, ensuring prompt service.

My mates ID was stolen by bar staff. They claimed it was fake even tho he had gotten from government. They would not give back and said we had to call police. Police said there is nothing they can do. Staff were very argumentative. Will not be returning.

After a few months in the wilderness with poor service and numerous menu omissions, I’m pleased to report that The Red Lion is well and truly back in the game! Service was really good. Steve, as were the rest of the staff, was very friendly, knowledgable and attentive. One of our party of six was a Coeliac, veggie who was extremely well advised and catered for. We all opted for items off the varied three course Christmas Festive Menu, which was unanimously voted excellent. Portion sizes were good, food hot, well presented and flavoursome. I can vouch for the mushroom starter, traditional turkey roast and Christmas pud, all of which were delicious. It’s good to see you back.

The staff were really nice and friendly. When I made several calls beforehand asking questions about the booking process for our Christmas meal, the person I was speaking to was really friendly and thorough in their explanation. The seating was nice and comfy although it wasn't exactly the best for our group to be divided on three floors (then it changed to 2 then back to 3). Food was lovely as well. Really lovely evening. Slightly bemused at being told from members of my group that there was a "Resident Crackhead" in the male toilets eating a sandwich.

A group of us went to the Red Lion for a Christmas meal. The staff were all really warm and welcoming, but a special 'thank you' to Alison who looked after us so well. The food was excellent and, although it was very busy, the service was so quick.
