Service was not as expected, so many things went wrong there..3 glasses instead of 4, when we all ordered wine, food didn't come together as asked, failing to bring sauces, etc.. The place is nice and relatively clean, and the toilet are megical victorian happy place for women 😀

A restaurant rather than a pub. Food just OK but prices are well above average. Tables left uncleared when customers leave

Lovely Christmas dinner at the Red Lion in Oxford! Alison, our waitress was lovely and looked after everyone in our party brilliantly.

Great food and excellent service, though the atmosphere is understandably noisy, given it’s a pub. I recommend trying the three-course meal to fully enjoy the variety of flavors. The kids’ menu is generous as well. The staff are polite and attentive, ensuring prompt service.

My mates ID was stolen by bar staff. They claimed it was fake even tho he had gotten from government. They would not give back and said we had to call police. Police said there is nothing they can do. Staff were very argumentative. Will not be returning.

After a few months in the wilderness with poor service and numerous menu omissions, I’m pleased to report that The Red Lion is well and truly back in the game! Service was really good. Steve, as were the rest of the staff, was very friendly, knowledgable and attentive. One of our party of six was a Coeliac, veggie who was extremely well advised and catered for. We all opted for items off the varied three course Christmas Festive Menu, which was unanimously voted excellent. Portion sizes were good, food hot, well presented and flavoursome. I can vouch for the mushroom starter, traditional turkey roast and Christmas pud, all of which were delicious. It’s good to see you back.

The staff were really nice and friendly. When I made several calls beforehand asking questions about the booking process for our Christmas meal, the person I was speaking to was really friendly and thorough in their explanation. The seating was nice and comfy although it wasn't exactly the best for our group to be divided on three floors (then it changed to 2 then back to 3). Food was lovely as well. Really lovely evening. Slightly bemused at being told from members of my group that there was a "Resident Crackhead" in the male toilets eating a sandwich.

A group of us went to the Red Lion for a Christmas meal. The staff were all really warm and welcoming, but a special 'thank you' to Alison who looked after us so well. The food was excellent and, although it was very busy, the service was so quick.

The Sunday lunch was delicious, really reasonably priced. Our waitress Alison was so attentive and her customer service skills were exceptional. We will definitely return!

Group of 14 people for a family occasion. We all enjoyed our meals and were impressed with the service. Stephen + Edward were both so helpful and efficient. Thanks from us all 🙂

I highly do not recommend their burgers.. I asked for medium rare beef, after seeing on google images what people get. The guy at the bar said no problem. I got completely rare. I asked the waiter to change the beef, he said he would not change the beef because they only do rare burgers. He also added that according to the regulations they cannot undercook the meat due to bacteria etc.. I said they should say it at the beginning and not when the food is served. Also my friend got duck which was medium rare. So funny are their regulations.. The pulled beef was in the form of chopped cubes of beef, another disappointment.. I paid over £20 for a burger that was worth £5 at most, poor lunch..

We had a delicious Sunday roast here, we arrived early and had a warm welcome, we had a few drinks before being seated at our table. Staff were friendly, they were busy and rushed off their feet so there was a few mix up’s between the table next to us however all can be forgiven as they were under pressure. The Yorkshire puddings had ran out by the time our roast came out however we were offered a side to make up for it. The food was delicious, great quality,presented well and we didn’t have to wait too long at all. We particularly loved the bacon wrapped stuffing and cauli cheese. We will be returning and will recommend to our friends and family. Thank you to all the team. Edit We also loved the atmosphere and decor. The ladies bathroom is beautifully decorated and the garden looked lovely for the summer time!

We booked a table 4pm (weekdays). When we came,the big gastropub was absolutely empty. Lady gave us table next to toilet and bar. When we ask if we could have another table ,she told it were booked... I don't know why she didn't like us,but during 2years in UK, it was first time , I've met such a bad attitude to guests.

Lovely pub and exceptional food. But the whole experience was spoiled by very poor service. We were seated immediately but waited 40 mins before anyone came over to serve us. We waited another 40 mins for our food and when it arrived, one meal had been missed off. After eating, no one cleared our dirty plates. We would have ordered coffee and dessert, but couldn’t wait any longer. Despite the lovely food, we wouldn’t dine here again, nor recommend it.

Ate at the Red Lion yesterday with another couple. We were all very impressed with the food and our waitress was so attentive and friendly. My friend and I had the sea bass and it was fantastic. All the food was lovely and hot and beautifully presented. Have now visited the Red Lion a number of times and will definitely return.

Stephen and his team went above and beyond to make sure I had the best birthday on Saturday night! Gorgeous cocktails and gorgeous food to match! 1000% would recommend. Thank you all!

Unfortunately they didn't realise that a table of 5 ordering 3 bowls of fries and two burgers might want it all together... Somehow one of the burgers came out with the fries, the other, ~15 mins later. To top it off, the waiter looked confused that someone might want the food that they had ordered. Unlikely to go back, especially at that price!

Unfortunately we found the service very slow, lots of smokers (no split smoking and non smoking al fresco) but very pretty place.

The food was seriously under par. The chips were too salty to eat, the scallops were burnt on the outside and barely cooked on the inside. The steak was very rare and the tender stem broccoli too hard to eat.

The treatment is not suitable for a foreign tourist ، 0,1/10 👍🏻

Nice food well presented. It's a pub so you have to order at the bar and pay with your order. The staff are busy, so it can take a bit of time to place your order. Some staff are excellent and very friendly others, not quite as good. Generally, I had a very pleasant 3 course lunch, a couple of glasses of wine, and I would go there again.

Went for a Sunday roast (requested by a visitor from overseas). The pub is nicely designed in the modern gastro style (I remember it from many years ago as a cheap and cheerful pub full of students) and the staff were great. The roast beef was too rare for my liking and could have done with some gristle being trimmed off - otherwise would have given it 5 stars - but then again that’s how all the naff cooking shows say it should be served, so a matter of taste. Everything else was good.

Lovely pub in the heart of Oxford. Staff a little slow, but lovely decor and atmopshere. Clean throughout including clean toilets. Would reccomend.

The meal was absolutely delicious which we enjoyed very much. My wife had a large glass of Pinot Grigio which was very expensive at £10.55, so too was a pint of Guinness at £6.00. But the main meal and dessert were excellent.

Loved the homemade Yorkshires definitely the biggest I’ve ever seen! We have eaten with you a couple of times and each visit the menu to table experience has not disappointed. The service is delightful and the prices are not off putting. So thanks to the whole team - We will be back

A nice evening. Not too many changes to the menu, given it was the new ‘Autumn’ one. The Raclette Fondue was amazing! Really went down well with our group. Wish it was a bit bigger.

It was my 2nd visit in Oct as holidaying in Oxford. Loved this venue wish I could have taken u back to Australia!!! It is an amazing venue just loved the whole package!

When we arrived at 5pm the restaurant was empty. However we were warmly welcomed by your staff member. The food was excellent throughout as was the service.

A step up from average pub grub but not quite gastro pub, if that makes sense. Tasty and decent servings with reasonable choices, friendly staff. Bit of a barn so not much atmosphere on a Monday evening when quiet. Fine for 2 friends chatting.

Server messed up our order by entering in too many items. We called into his attention that we didn’t order 4 servings of scallops. When the bill arrived, we had been charged for his mistakes. By then he had disappeared and a nice young woman helped us to fix the bill.

Might be a bit harsh as the place only had 2 staff on floor/Bar area the lady behind the bar was amazing and really friendly and the guy running food was polite if not a bit rushed off his feet sorting whole restaurant out. This place has so many different nooks and crannies it looked empty but there was quite a lot of people for one person to deal with. My main reason it scores low was the food. My gammon and eggs was actually ok but person I was with had fish cakes which came with a supposed lemon veloute which was the most underwhelming sauce I'd ever tried. I'm an ex chef so know a good sauce this was as far away from this as could be. No seasoning, no depth of flavour and limp in consistency. The fishcakes looked like they had been chucked in a dirty deep fat fryer and were too crunchy. And the poached egg looked as deflated as we were eating this dish.Absolutely no finesse. The red lion is trying to be a gastropub but with food like that costing nearly £16 it was a huge let down. Wetherspoons could do food almost as good and it would be half the price and a pint would cost £3 rather than £6. The place looks lovely and huge amount of space and garden. The staff were 85% good. Food was just annoyingly plain and without skill. Hire a new chef is my advice. I'm happy to come and show chef how to a make a lemon veloute which is a entry level skill sauce!! I did give it a 2nd chance walked in on a quiet Monday. Person behind the bar took an age to make a pot of tea for a customer past me twice and didn't acknowledge me which is a must in any hospitality venue. Then got charged £3.35 for a half of Camden Hells. If you want to charge ridiculously over inflated prices you also need to be the best which on two occasions you have fallen well below what I would a basic service. I won't come here again and if you're reading this I urge you to go somewhere else. Oxford has a lot better to offer than this place. It's not a gastro pub by any stretch of the imagination.

Came for a meal with the wifes family and her mum insisted i mention how great her fish and chips was, she has fish and chips every Friday and in her 87 years the red lion tops the list. Service and food was phenomenal

Fantastic atmosphere and really good service. Enjoyed the Cod & Chorizo Fishcakes but the poached pears were outstanding.

We didn’t book but the Manager Camron helped us get a table, he was very professional and helpful. Our service from Edward was incredible, his product knowledge and attention to detail was second to none!

Came with my family for a meal and the manager found us a lovely table despite it being busy, Ed and Nia did great helping us get everything we needed and made our evening special 10/10 service and the food was delicious
