While enjoying the meal, I shared my feelings about life. I like the atmosphere here, it is relaxed and comfortable!

I had a lovely chicken burger. My parents had kedgeree and eggs royale. The desserts were excellent

Chilled and fun restaurant/cafe that is an excellent Brunch/lunch spot and some nights it has live music, which on this occasion was jazz and/or funk!

The meal we had here was very nice. I had a burger and a drink for £15 which was a great deal. As I understand it there are different deals on different days. Lovely cosy restaurant with great , friendly staff.

Nice little cafe to spend an afternoon whilst working or chatting with friends.. Good brunch and lunch food accompanied with funky music.. Will definitely go again..

Very pleasant evening spent here listening to Jazz for the Sunday evening event. Staff were attentive, friendly and polite. Food was good quality. I know it's a grill, but there was a leak of vegetarian options. Would still highly recommend though!

For that "feel good" factor with authentic hospitality, you can do no better than Joe's Bar & Grill - especially on a live music Thursday night! We were in Oxford for 2 nights only and dined at Joe's both nights - on the first night we were warmly welcomed; on the 2nd night we were treated like regulars or a part of the family. We thank our Hosts and the staff who made our visit a memorable one.

Went for dinner with friends and the experience was terrible. It took almost an hour to get some tap water and asked three times, when the waitress finally delivered the water to the table she slammed it down. Also my cod dish took over an hour to arrive to table and it gave me food poisoning the next day. I certainly won’t be going back here. Disgusting place.

I came here with my parents for brunch, and none of us were particularly hungry so we all ended up having eggs on toast. Which is why I am able to say with absolute certainty that they know how to do their eggs here; I was also pleased that our plates were warmed! I also had a delicious double macchiato which was perfectly balanced between strength and flavour. (I've been here in the past and had more substantial meals, so the 5* isn't solely based on the quality of their eggs).

Great place to eat yummy soups (a paprika and tomato soup is absolutely the best! . Unfortunately they have no dairy alternatives for your coffee, but drinks and meals are tasty. Also, there is live jazz music once or twice a week, so definitely worth visiting for a date or with friends to chill out over a glass of wine 🍷🍸

Great food, the staff team was super nice and we managed to get a spot in the sun with this warm weather. Definitely recommend! There is a carpark about 2 min walk away from the restaurant.

Been there a few times with my wife and brother-in-law for dinner because it's just around the corner. Food isn't that bad, but isn't that good either. Wouldn't call it value-for-money. Service adequate but rather dilatory, undifferentiated and can be a bit moody. The owner doesn't know how to deal with negative feedback and seems to respond rather defensively to one-star reviews on this site - no way to improve. It's probably why I'll suggest we look for somewhere else next time.

Great atmosphere. Amazing food. We had the roast lamb special! Very flavourful. Fantastic service from the manager and stay too. Only little issue is that the gluten free options are lacking, but that's the same with most places.

Waiting staff were reluctant to serve and spoke about customers in derogatory terms in front of other customers. Cups didn’t seem clean. Service charge is automatically included in the bill. You can’t opt out of it even if you are not impressed by their service or attitude

We eat here regularly and are normally very happy. However, we booked for Sunday lunch (9th June 2024). When the plate arrived with the roast beef, I was a bit disappointed to be honest. Who serves roast beef without a yorkshire pudding? A small amount of veg too. Your prices are on par with Brasserie Blanc, The Trout etc and yet you scrimp on the basics. The taste was great but the visual aspect needs some work. BB is cheaper and you will get cauliflower cheese, unlimited roasties and lots of veg. I felt cheated to be honest. Husband had the beef burger and he left most of it. We have had burgers before but this was too heavily seasoned with rosemary or some other herb and the chips were dry, like they had sat under a salamander. It was the first time my husband has ever not eaten a burger, that's how bad it was. We will always come back just not on a Sunday.

We turned up without a reservation and were warmly greeted and shown to a table with plenty of space around it. The host was warm and friendly and the atmosphere was cosy. There was live music but it wasn't too loud to prevent conversation. The food was delicious and there was plenty of choice. Highly recommended.

Had a great Saturday brunch at Joes!! Very spacious dining area. Like the classic diner decoration. Food was amazing - the French toast is very good! Mocha’s good too. Service is great and fast internet. Will definitely come back to check out the Tuesday burger deal!

Had a quick bite to eat on a Thursday night with my daughter who is at school locally. Love the decor - fun trying to spot the celebs in the black and white photos. There is something for everyone on the menu - small plates, salads, steaks, fish…. The food was great - the bavette was a good choice and perfectly cooked. Service was excellent with friendly staff. My daughter raved about the sticky toffee pudding!

Excellent menú. Very good price for the good quality of food and drinks. Very nice behaviour of the staff. Very advisable place to go.

We were looking for a gentle breakfast café experience, and the decor here promises that. The service was alright, though we arrived early and noticed that people who came in after us had to stand up and wave to the waiter to get his attention. As for the food, we have eaten much better in less pretentious cafés. The soft poached eggs on toast were hard, the kedgeree had far too much cream and was a sweet stodgy mass, and the pork sausage was undercooked; so for us it was one-star food experience. In case anyone at Joe's Grill chooses to suggest that we should have raised any of this at the time, I'll save you time: we did, in the form of a suggestion that pork sausages should be cooked properly, rather than as a complaint, and our suggestion was treated with indifference.

We used to love going here but it has gone down hill massively. Menu was incorrect and the food was inedible. Staff didn’t seem that interested or concerned. Sadly we won’t be returning.

I ordered a chicken burger, was told it was minced chicken . It was disgusting . I then ordered summer fruit for dessert it was dreadful pure stodge with a very thick blob of cream . I mentioned it to the waiter but he ignored me . I left hungry and will not be going back again

Disappointing not really dog friendly, can only sit outside on a wet day, go to the pub next door very dog friendly inside & they even provide water. Picture shows dog area, not popular outside warm days in summer. Not dog friendly restaurant!

Went to this place last minute while staying in Oxford. When we went they had a £15 deal on burger and a drink which I thought was good. I asked about the fish of the day but they didn't have any, I also asked about other meals but again they didn't have it so I had the burger deal, the burger was nice but my partner had a rib eye steak and for £26 I've seen better rump steaks, it was full of fat and gristle and definitely wasn't worth the money. The waiter didn't ask us how our meal was otherwise I probably would of said something but my partner didn't want me to make a fuss.

The only place on this street that had a gluten free option! The eggs Benedict was amazing the grilled bacon was perfection. Didn't even get to take a picture of the food because we tucked in straight away 😂

Friendly bar diner with a nice atmosphere. Food is reasonably priced and not bad.

Came to Joes for lunch yesterday and had the most amazing time. We were served by the lovely patrick, who was extremely patient with all my dietary requirements and allergies which is rare to find with waiters at any other restaurant. Will definitely be coming back and promoting the restaurant to everyone! Everything from the food to the service, especially the service was 10/10 thanks to patrick.

Great atmosphere, prices ok but we waited a lot to have someone take our order when the restaurant was not complete. Small portions and English breakfast do not include coffee!

Our fav neighborhood restaurant. Such good service, they seem to make a free table magically appear even when fully booked. Food and cocktails reliably good. Kids love the food and the eye candy decor. Oh, and they do some nice live music!

I had a Greek salad and a warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. I found the salad a tad oily for my tastes, although the grilled goats cheese was good, and the dessert was amazing. I found the dim atmosphere even at midday a bit odd, but I think it would work quite well at night. The waiters were very friendly, although it seemed like there weren't quite enough of them. I think this place is great for something more casual.

A very enjoyable dining experience. I hadn't booked for brunch but was shown a lovely table and served by very friendly staff. I will come back!

Start to finish, you can tell it’s ran by professional caring people, Rob and his team are incredible, attentive, and so nice to have people actually genuinely care. Nice spot of breakfast with friendly staff. 10% service charge slapped on at the end, I think the prices of the food are more than enough without it. It’s not America.

We both had the sirloin steak everything was cooked to perfection and the service was so lovely. The music was lovely to hear while eating, the peppercorn sauce was the best we had ever tried. We will be coming bk and we have already recommend it to friends

Joe's is always great. Simple. Staff are VERY attentive + clearly all very happy to work there. Quick service even when it's busy. Amazing decor, very snazzy place to be with a good, easy-going/relaxed atmosphere. The owners are clearly very passionate + the high quality of food has never been sacrificed. This is the type of place where you could 'just get a coffee' on your own - or you could easily take a whole clan of people to get a full rack of ribs. I had a good laugh reading the bad reviews - how much do people expect to pay for good food in Oxford 🤣🤣🤣 Surely you'd rather have price increases, instead of the food quality / portion sizes decrease - and you can't afford it, well you didn't have to order it! 🤣🤣🤣

I ate fish and chips for the third time in the UK on the 8th. This one is the best.

The fact this place is so well thought of reminds me how poorly Oxford is served for reasonably priced, tasty lunch places. Joe’s is neither. Astonished at the raise in prices since my last visit, I opted for the all-day breakfast and what a mistake. Sausages obviously cheap and the made me wince; small serving of bacon that tasted like plastic; rock hard black pudding & hash browns; rubbery egg. The toast sitting alongside this mess on the plate looked embarrassed to be there. Also worth mentioning the music - loud and intrusive. My bill came to over £20, a bonkers price for such a poorly cooked breakfast, assembled from basic ingredients that tasted supermarket-bought. Just awful.

Joe’s never disappoints! We’ve been coming here for some years following our daughter being resident in Oxford Uni. The food is always delicious, the drinks and cocktails are fantastic and the staff are attentive and helpful. We keep meaning to try other eateries in Summertown but always end up at Joe’s - highly recommend this cosy restaurant - superb!

This restaurant is brilliant. Mother had the fried brie, and I had the vegetable curry, then we had lemon posset. The food was ample and well-cooked, and the staff were kind. We love coming here, and I now view the restaurant as one of my safe spaces. Well done, and lots of love to you all xxxx :)

Lovely staff. Excellent smoothie and pastry. Husband had smashed avo and eggs and said it was perfect.

Decent sides and drink. However, it’s the only bar in Oxford that I’ve been to that puts a service charge on two drinks.

A bit overpriced for what it is...

Staff were lovely, food was very hot (temperature) and tasty! Apple crumble was the best we've both had in a long time. Fries were perfect. Highly recommend. Everyone was friendly from the moment we walked in, even with a toddler in tow. We were given a booth so my son could sit between us. Staff made effort with him, chatting to him etc which I've not had at a restaurant before. Very impressed. Will come back!

The restaurant is rather cozy inside, and rather American in its decor. I really liked the atmosphere! The steak I had was pretty good, though there was a little too much oil over the tomatoes and salad. The brownie and ice cream were also very good, though you might want to get more water due to the richness of the brownie. The fish and chips were also a good value too, and the chunky chips are very tasty. The service was also lovely too.

Long term fan of Joe's (how I miss their Cowley Road restaurant). Solid menu of great dishes and drinks. Particular favourite is a recovery Joe's breakfast combined with a Baby Joe smoothie and a large capuccino - always makes me feel better.

A pleasant breakfast but the toast wasn't cooked, it was just warm bread. The rest of the food was good though. Wouldn't take much effort to get it to 5 stars all round.

Met with friends for brunch on a recent Saturday morning. Good variety of brunch/lunch items on the menu, which are quite reasonably priced. Joe's has a nice atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Would recommend.

Steak 6oz very good, also the fish n chips.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food took a little while to arrive (it was a particularly busy day), but it was definitely worth the wait- absolutely delicious! A lovely atmosphere here and would recommend.

Excellent Fish n’ Chips ( part of their Wednesday menu) Let down by an undercooked Bread N’Butter pudding. Otherwise nice place, but do turn down the music from the kitchen, does get in the way of the music from the restaurant !

The service in Joes is always excellent, but recently they have launched a new menu. It's the best they've ever had. I had the belly of Pork, it was cooked and presented perfectly. Give Joes a try you won't be dis-appointed.

Recently put on the menu you can't swap items on the English breakfast anymore not impressed considering its £14 now and the quality of the food wasn't good

Pretty poor tbf. After waiting 45 mins for lunch - Daughters potatoes were cold when served and my chicken burger was really dry. Taken away and obviously microwaved. Waiter apologised and reduced bill by 1/3. Was a regular when I lived in Summertown and used to love the chicken burgers here. This was awful food served late cold and pretty inedible.. Won’t be back.

The food was nice and the staff polite. Ok so we thought it was over priced to be honest and the service charge would be better as an open option, rather than just included in the bill.. for the price of the food the service charge was not needed .

The restaurant was not too busy. Lots of staff but service lacking. No one asked how our meals were. My husbands burger was less cooked than medium. He is squimish about that stuff. He ended up only eating half. When they picked up the plate, no one said was everything ok, when to an experienced restaurant person… that would be a question. It was ok… will likely go back as it is close to my sons.

Great feeling at joes really feels like your on holiday in a great little bar and grill, lovely atmosphere and friendly extremely attentive staff we go probably 2/3 times a week in the summer with real good quality food and some great music twice a week. Highly recommended.
