Jess made us an absolutely stunning and delicious wedding cake at short notice. She perfectly understood what we were looking for both in terms of the cake and the decorations. It was so beautiful the whole room went quiet when it was brought in, and we had so many compliments on the taste as well! The whole process was very professional and reassuring, and really allowed us to take our minds off of it - which was especially important as the baker we had originally intended to use had to cancel only a few weeks before the wedding. In hindsight we're very pleased they did, as we could not imagine anything better than this!

This business owner needs to update their Google listing as it shows open but, on looking at their website, it becomes clear that the café element of the business closed months ago.

Simply the best local cafe - now open fortnightly on a Sunday, and for the occasional pop-up or other special events. Great little garden or sit inside, including the conservatory. Using high-quality local ingredients - cooking and baking with style and flair. Elsie makes the best cappuccinos. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices. Oh, and you can now order from a wide selection of cakes - and the yummiest cinnamon buns - on the wesite, then pick them up or have them delivered!

We bought the Green Goddess Cake as a last minute wedding cake for our intimate ceremony as Silvie as recently closed their cafe which we had been meaning to visit and postponed too many times. So when we saw we could order online the same month of our wedding, it felt like fate. Jess was so so helpful with customer service when we had a bunch of questions with regards to delivery (as we were at the ceremony during the delivery window and it went so seamlessly with the event coordinator at the venue). Not was this fantastic customer service the cake was absolutely phenomenal. It was so much bigger than we expected, decorated impeccably and possibly the best chocolate cake we've ever had! We couldn't recommend Silvie enough for any cake needs and we will definitely have our go-to local bakery for all our future celebrations!

Very good coffee and delicious food. It’s always nice to go places that offer something new and interesting as part of their menu. At Silvie’s they work wonders in their kitchen. Loved the food on our last visit.

The atmosphere is extraordinarily welcoming and clean. This restaurant is obviously loved by its ownership and staff. The menu is quaint and delivers in its promises. I really enjoyed the ordering method. My table and I chose to eat outside in their garden table area. We took a numbered wooden spoon at their counter and silverware when ordering so they could find where to bring our food. I ordered house granola with coconut yogurt in place of Greek [highly recommend coconut]. My table also ordered the full English and poached eggs over salmon. Each item was perfectly executed and brought to our table in almost no time at all. This was during an oddly busy weekend in Oxford. The staff were very nice and seemed to smile with every interaction. My only complaint is my friends and I tried to go again the next morning without checking their hours of operation. They were unfortunately closed! From London to Bath, my favorite breakfast in the land.

Poorest service I’ve experienced in a very long time. Not only did it take them over an hour to serve our simple order (we were told it could take up to half an hour), but they also got it wrong!! Missing items they had to bring on a separate plate. Apparently they only open 3 days a week, but it’s amazing they even manage to open a single day. They were running out of ingredients left and right. When I approached the counter the lady literally told me ‘good luck trying to order from what we have left.’ Some hospitality. That should’ve been our queue to leave. And I now genuinely feel that’s what she was going for. I would avoid any day. Plenty of welcoming, more respectful places that deserve your money. Replying to the owner: Not only are you incompetent, but you’re also belligerent and pure liars!!! Never once was I rude or tried to jump queue. Or do you mean when I came back to tell you my correct table number? Was I supposed to queue again? We changed tables once because it started raining while we waited and waited outside, and your cinnamon buns are “full of allergies”, completely thoughtless if you’re aware of my “many allergies”. I wouldn’t dream of coming back… that is if you’re still open with this despicable attitude!! Insincere apologies after a shocking service do not ‘undo’ a terrible experience. Wow

Staff was dismissive, if not rude. This was a shame, as the place is charming and I’d gone to visit as a special occasion. I have worked in service industry too, and know the different between what is good and what is bad service. This was terrible, the servers looked annoyed that I a customer had come in, and then after ignoring me - failing to acknowledge my presence - had a very perfunctory you’re-disturbing-me-attitude, which doesn’t make sense, mate, you work there!!! Whilst the staff looked young (about early to mid twenties), the cafe has an open plan where I could see an older staff member or even owner/manager somewhere in the background. This presence did not deter the the server from having a dismissive attitude. I was taken aback, immensely and I don’t know if I will return. Very disappointing. Willing to give the place another chance, but please please please train your staff to observe professional standards, it is a terrible look for both the individuals and as well as Silvie if the staff are giving off “I’d rather not be here vibes…”

We were a bit shocked at the prices (£15 for salmon on sourdough, £10 for a very average brioche bun with egg/a very small amount of cheese), almost £70 for 4 people for brunch. We then waited for 45 minutes for our meals (15-20 mins just for coffee), and I had to go and ask for our food because it felt like they had just forgotten. The food didn't come all together, the last 2 meals were served 5 minutes after the first 2. Underwhelming food to be honest. The roasted tomato dish was a bit of a runny mess, poached eggs were a bit overdone, not very generous on the salmon, brioche bun with eggs pretty bland. Overpriced and underwhelming, we felt really ripped off with the overall experience. Beyond the food, staff were friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. The cafe is pretty and has a nice garden.

Pretentious rip off It's all very well offering lino cutting and life drawing sessions but first you've got to get the basics right. Food: I ordered quiche and salad for £10. What arrived on a modest sized plate was a triangular slice of quiche 3in by 3in by 3in and some watercress. When I took this to the serving staff they reluctantly accepted that a bunch of watercress did not constitute a salad - it indeed constituted watercress, as in quiche and watercress! They were perhaps led to oblige me in rectifying the plate by the agreement of another customer at my side who agreed that what I had been served was not quiche and salad. After sitting back at my table a grumpy waitress brought me the original quiche plus some lettuce leaves - again not a salad, just quiche and lettuce. My wife prevailed on me not to complain again so I decided to write this review instead. I attach a photo of my plate half eaten. Staff: the overwhelming impression was of indifference to the customer: seeing what was absolutely clearly a deficiency between what was on the menu and what was delivered, it was not a [Oh! Dear! I'm sorry. Let me see what I can do. Maybe some tomatoes, onions and a bit of lettuce...] kind of response; more like [Yeah... whatever]. Absolutely zero interest or empathy. I also thought as a well-dressed, male, senior that I would have got a very different response if I'd been 25 and female. Yes: unempathetic, ageist and anti old blokes. Fixtures: the round table in the front room was very unstable. The supposed 5GHz wifi was almost undetectable. The chairs, upholstery and tables were of all sorts and mostly knackered. The overhead strings of lightbulbs almost certainly contravene Health &Safety legislation.

Have had a few brunches here, it's a smallish place inside but has a spectacular garden out the back which is a great place to relax over a long feed on a sunny day. There's a counter where you can order while admiring the selection of cakes and stuff, and a good range of sitting spaces from tiny tables for couples to long ones for bigger groups; the garden also has a range of shade to cater for all tastes. Food has always been very good indeed, all clearly quality ingredients treated with care. Highly recommended.

Had been coming to this cafe for years, and have been twice since their renovation (this was the second time). I really appreciate all of the work that has been done on the cafe- it looks beautiful and the little shop is always nice to browse. However, the price rises at Sylvie now make this local business one I cannot regularly support. This time when we visited, we found the food small and not worth the price. Quality was fine but it really didn't impress us the way Sylvie food used to. I am not sure if the price hikes are to help cover the cost of the renovations, but as a student, I am now being priced out as a customer. With the cost of living crisis upon us, I can no longer justify coming to Sylvie, spending appx 20 pounds per breakfast, only to leave hungry and dissatisfied. I have noticed the cafe is less busy and many of my friends have also stopped visiting. I would love to see this gem of a cafe return to it's roots so that loyal customers can return.

I went here for brunch with my girlfriend on a Sunday. Service is a bit unusual, you need to find your own table, get cutlery and order and pay at the bar, very much self-service vibes. But that is paired with honestly fairly steep prices, about 14£ per brunch dish. Food came pretty slowly and was not super outstanding. Location is quite cute, they have a big garden which could be really nice to sit in in good weather, unfortunately it was raining when we went here.

3 brunches with coffee etc. came to £60. All of my food was dry and cold (mushroom sausage bacon etc.) and my toast was basically bread. My tomatoes also weren't cooked properly. It wasn't especially busy and nothing we had was complex in anyway, just a full english and some french toast. really disappointed to have spent £60 on such utterly mediocre food, as i don't believe any of the ingredients were particularly amazing quality in the first place, although it was hard to tell as very dry. There are far better brunch options within a 10 minute walk of this place i don't see why i would ever go back.

Wow! Lovely lush food. It feels like somebody's house or maybe a dentist, but more welcoming than the former and less sterile than the latter. There's the sense that if you wander into the wrong room you'll find nanny knitting, or maybe auntie in a bathtub with her big toe stuck in the tap. But that's not what you find. Instead you'll find warm service from very softly spoken men, facemasks aplenty, lush coffee (Minor Figures oat milk, v bougie), and a truly splendid French Toast. The green bits on top look like jalapenos but they're actually green plums or some such. Really really good. Walnuts also? Some such. Marvelous. The table next to us was a couple who whined something rotten that the pork sausage was vaguely pink in the middle. They clearly don't know good pig meat when they eat it. I loved it. I'll be sure to visit my Aunt Silvie again soon. Be sure not to avoid it, ever!

Used to really love this place but they have changed the menu and the breakfast we had really wasn’t that nice. The ‘Autumn Panzanella’ (no idea why it’s called this as it’s not a salad and has no tomatoes) had stodgy bread, overcooked egg, sausage with no flavour that tasted boiled and dried out bacon. The veggies were nice though, but for £14 I would expect much better. There was also a long wait before our coffees arrived and we asked for water that only came when we asked again. It’s also just become so expensive, we paid £20 per person for breakfast/drinks. Such a shame as they have a beautiful garden and used to do amazing food.

Visited for breakfast. £11 for a 'breakfast roll' (a bagel with bacon, sausage, egg (though I had without)band rhubarb ketchup. It was on the menu as being in a 'floured roll', but it came in a sesame bagel - not a good start on the allergy front. I'd already explained that I was allergic to eggs, so asked if the bagel contained eggs (they often do). They didn't know and phoned the bakery, which was closed. On the plus side, they replaced it with sourdough without argument, but not having an allergens list wasn't good.

Honestly, if you are looking for a treat, Silvies' is it! Just had the most delicious breakfast of roasted pumpkin with feta cream, it was dreamy! Not to mention all their amazing sweet treats! Particularly their cinnamon buns, which are OUT OF THIS WORLD!! 10/10 service, all the people who work here are absolutely divine and so friendly! 100% recommend

We came for a leisurely breakfast but we weren't expecting the service to be quite so leisurely... After a long wait we asked the manager what had happened to our order, only to be firmly put in our place and told this was normal and we had to wait. We were made to feel very inferior. As you can expect, this spoiled our plan for a relaxed morning so we won't be coming again.

We visited this cafe for a family breakfast. We are locals and this could have become a regular venue for us.But oh no. The menus are very limited and there is no flexibility. And if you dare to make a request you get your head bitten off. We politely asked to swap a fried egg for a scrambled egg and were astonished that this was refused. Not only that but the manager was aggressively defensive, rudely making it clear that our request was highly unreasonable and that we were quite wrong to have made any comment at all. It is also expensive. So in summary you pay a high price for limited choice, no flexibility and a very rude manager.

Silvie is a lovely, lovely cafe that I cannot recommend enough. The food is very good. Or so I think - I might have been a little bit distracted by the magical atmosphere and the super cuddly Rosie the cat and so I don't know whether I paid sufficient attention.

A sweet little cafe in the style of a lovely English flat. The best is the beautiful garden, one of the best spots in Oxford, which is not ina college. And on top of that, the food is delicious.

Lekkere zelfgebakken gebak en brood, dat je kan genieten zowel binnen als buiten in de tuin. Het bananenbrood is zeker een aanrader.

Not sure whether to laugh. Think the lady there today is a little off her rocker. Stayed at the B&B; which is OK. Cannot be bothered to waste my time explaining why but suffice to say we will make sure that we do not pass on a good recommendation to anyone. Walked out and went to Bannisters down the road. Do not like being told it is our job to curry favour with this lot when all I wanted was a poached egg instead of scrambled (apparently they cannot do this although its on the menu....). Nice cake does not make up for vile customer service. Go on a some sort of course, please, there must be something for people like you....those almost beyond redemption.

i see this place gets mixed reviews. We were not in-patients of the B&B;, so we breakfasted in the front room under the watchful eye of the person manning the till. Small menu of breakfast sarnies was actually exactly what we wanted. The fried egg sandwich is two eggs between two big mattresses of san Francisco-style white sourdough, of sufficient structure to pick up with both hands but enough absorption to ensure it didn’t ooze down your chest. The perfect fried egg sarnie. The bacon sarnie connoisseur opposite was more than satisfied with his bacon and egg version. Array of cakes looked super, but there was no chance of fitting anything else in. Maybe they do more stuff in the room at the back, who knows. Tea and coffee were both very good indeed. Service was swift and friendly, not brusque. The only thing that would have improved our brekkie experience is fresh orange juice. But I'm a blow-in, They know their market. We recommend.

Delicious food! We stayed at Browns (the hotel attached to the cafe) so came down for breakfast in the morning. The food was lovely, staff super friendly, and we liked the charm of the place. Weather was good so we sat out in the garden and were greeted by the cat, Rosie, who loved a good fuss. There seemed to be a lot of locals coming to eat here, not just hotel guests. Would definitely come again!

This is my favourite Afternoon Tea venue in Oxford, you can't beat it for ambience, price, parking and relaxation plus the food is lovely! Not sure if some of the sandwich choices had been changed for Christmas but they weren't the usual fayre this time. Nevertheless, the team do go out of their way to do what they can for you, they are not hovering over you endlessly and you can get as many refills on the tea etc as you like. I always look forward to going back and I will be looking forward to my next afternoon tea trip back here again!
