Petitou in Southwark

Stopped for coffee at 2pm on a Sunday. Lovely cafe with great selection and amazing service from friendly staff. Kitchen was strangely closed by 2.30 so enjoyed a brilliant latte. The table next to us had a toastie delivered just as I picked up the menu which looked amazing! All to-go food was situated in an open space which meant it was not allergy friendly - they may have had other options in the back but in a place so small it wasn't worth the risk for me. Would definitely go back for coffee!

Scrambled eggs not creamy and starting to separate, don’t think any butter was used making them. Crumpets warmed not really toasted and cappuccino was tepid.

The quiche is always great quality and there's an excellent choice of tasty, filling salads. Coffee is decent. Brilliant Portuguese custard tarts with crispy, flaky pastry. Delicious mushrooms on toast.

Opened late, no explanation given as we were waiting outside other than “we are opening late today”

Lovely coffee and a brilliant cheese toastie. The chilli jam and tomato just elevates it! Also reasonably priced too.

The food was very poor. I ordered mushrooms on toast, and it wasn't what I expected for £8.5. Even the confit garlic was still raw and had a bite. The bread was nothing special, some rockets were wilted, and the coffee was very poor.

I recently asked petitou to cater for a private party. Lola could not have been more helpful during the organisation and was so flexible when I changed my mind on various things. The food on the day was absolutely incredible, really amazing ingredients and delicious. All the guests commented on how great it was. It's also a wonderful cafe, always busy with a great atmosphere and tasty food. All in all a brilliant place!

Such a cute little spot but sadly a breakfast worse than a Travelodge. I pointed out that part of my food was cold and the waitress managed to attach her entire identity to the temperature of my food. It’s so easy to be welcoming and friendly but it was like walking into a sketch show about horrendous service.

Nice place but they’re poorly organised. We visited on a Saturday and the cafe was busy but not full, we waited 40 minutes for my toastie, our friend ordered quiche and a salad side, literally a 5 minute assembly job but 45 minutes later they had forgotten about it, we had to ask for it again and it was given on the house. After 40 minutes the toastie I’d ordered was 2 slices of toasted bread, with the raw ingredients added in afterwards. Seriously? Friendly people but a terrible cafe.

Fantastic lil cafe spot, just off the high street. Went there for a birthday breakfast and was really impressed. Couldn’t fault it. High quality food, super tasty, lovely sausages. Only downside is lack of parking out the front but that’s more Southwark councils fault and won’t be reflected in their score! Would definitely recommend. I’d even say it’s Peckhams finest breakfast. Loads of veggie and vegan options. Will be going back for sure x

It is such a lovely local spot, however, unfortunately, it was spoiled by a rude member of staff. I find it confusing when people choose to be impolite rather than empathetic.

Our puppy ate some unprotected rodenticide left out by the cafe - worrying for a pet and child friendly cafe to leave unprotected poison in the dining area? The cafe had agreed to pay our vet bills - this incident was caused by their neglect of health and safety. They have strung us along for 2 months, and now disappointingly gone back on our agreement and are refusing to pay the bills, but instead offering us.... a free coffee.... We had to rush her to the vet, she had an injection to make her vomit. The poison works by making rodent's blood very thin so they are likely to bleed to death. She then had to be under house arrest for 5 days whilst waiting for a blood test & results to confirm she hadn't absorbed any of the poison and therefore wasn't at risk of bleeding. After all of this, one would expect the cafe to not only pay the vet bills associated, but to offer some form of compensation for the stress this caused us and our puppy. If this had been a child, would the response be the same?

This place is a real gem. Wholesome, delicious and great place to come and relax. Love the spotlights on local artists. This place is a real treasure with wonderful people running it and a gorgeous atmosphere.

Regular visitor to this cafe. Friendly waiting staff and food is always freshly prepared and tasty. Favourite items are the cheese toasties and the scrambled eggs (both around the £7 mark).However, please, please, please sort out the ventilation. I always reek of cooking oil afterwards. Thank goodness they have a lovely garden area but this isn't a viable option when it's raining outside.

This is without doubt the best cafe we've visited in Peckham, run by absolutely lovely people. The food was all excellent - we had the quiche and salads, which were really generous portions of delicious food. It's a very welcoming place in a lovely setting under a huge tree on a pretty street - we will be back as soon as we can!

Super food, shakshuka was absolutely fab and other stuff looked good. Popular enough that we had to sit outside (brrr) but food was worth it.

i’ve been here for a coffee a few times before and i’d typically had a positive experience, but this time i ordered food and my gosh. terrible. i’m not sure if they’ve hired new staff but the customer service i experienced was so poor and the food was so badly prepared, i ordered a sandwich which upon arrival sprawled over the plate like a 2am kebab. it was greasy, overpriced and foul tasting. avoid food from here

Lovely location but so sad the food was awful and totally overpriced. I had a flat white coffee which tasted good but was luke warm and quickly turned freezing. I had scrambled egg on toast and paid extra for salmon. I only wish I had taken a photo. The scrambled eggs where white, tasteless, the salmon was cheap, tasteless and looked like it had been frozen. Limp rocket dumped in side of plate, dirty knife and forks. So disappointing. It cost £30 which is truly disgraceful. All the staff look miserable. I'd advise to avoid at all costs. Cheap tasteless ingredients, total rip off but a good location. Whoever owns this should be truly ashamed!!

Cute place on a quiet side street with great outside terrace. Sadly, the food didn’t live up to the surroundings. Tasteless veggie sausages and bland, soggy hash browns. Lukewarm coffee. Average brownie.

Genuinely not exaggerating when I say we waited over an hour for one ham and cheese toastie. Asked the staff where it was after 50 minutes and they said they forgot about it, then it still took another 20 minutes. Don’t bother !!! Overpriced for what it is too.

I love petitou! Such a cute little cafe. The scrambled eggs are delicious and such big portions. Also the cheese toastie and the salads. They have very good gluten free bread. Very chilled and nice vibes

Lovley place seems to be popular with local people. We've missed breakfast offers, which looked good on the other people's plates, so we decided to stay for lunch. There were 4 of us, and we managed to get the table big enough, but the waitress approached us and insisted on removing half of the table for the other customers. Obviously, we didn't agree as it would not be enough space on one small square table to fit 4 plates, not to mention drinks. She walked off clearly upset without whiping the table, which was messy. Fortunately, further service was carried out by another much more pleasant waitress.

A very cute and no frills local cafe that serves up some wholesome grub. Enjoyed a breakfast and coffee here, and left feeling very satisfied and quite full up. Portion sizes are large, and great value for money. Fresh and tasty. The staff are lovely, and the service was great.

Lovely place under a big tree. Sitting in the sun, shade and enyoing breakfast could not be better. Very tasteful and with the best coffees and teas. Also great for mid day drinks and lunch.

I got the falafel sandwich and omg it was so good I thought the least I could do is leave a review. Great speedy service. Cappuccino was perfectly done. But the sandwich, the sandwich. If you ever go here and are unsure what to get, go for the falafel sandwich. You won’t be sorry. Also affordable and worth the price.

It always is sad when you see a friend excited to show you somewhere in their neighbourhood and regret or apology comes into their eyes. This happened with my mate today and I found myself trying to encourage him that sometimes service just.... isn't. I get the feeling any other day Petitou is a grand place to be. It has a pretty French Café look, with a little feeling of homegrown spirit. It's just the vibe if you like a coffee place to chat that is less commercial and outside of classic Peckham. When we went in we tried for a table, that we hoped could be cleared. We must have missed the beat between switch over. Yet, it kind of kept going downhill from there. No cutlery, mix up of our food order, having to ask a few times for other items. And for a newcomer like me, no real clarity on how much self-service was ours to do as sauces and other bits did not have a section. All of this is ok, but it saddened me and my friend that the addition of a tip is preferred at till point before any service is seen. It's hard to judge at that early stage if it's worth it. I said yes for kindness. I kind of regretted it later. I hate writing such a negatively tinged review because I think I could like this place but truly we just had a really bad time.

Abysmal SERVICE!! I was recently staying in London visiting family, we stayed for 5 weeks and everyday we went to Petitou as it is the closest cafe to my house. I kid you not, they got our order wrong 100% of the time !!!! We ordered 2 coffees, the same coffees, EVERY DAY A FLAT WHITE & A CAPPUCCINO And everyday the wrong size, or wrong coffee. It was laughable. I feel they started doing it on purpose as I started speaking VERY SLOWLY to them as I ordered. They were nice, but never greet you on entry, even if you're standing next to the till !! They seem to be very preoccupied by their hair, or the music, or each other. They were very communicative with each other. In front of you, while you WAIT to be NOTICED !?? Coffee was OK on the day my order was right. We did have to start going to cafes at East Dulwich to a avoid these moronic interactions. Good luck while you're the only cafe on or off Bellenden! Once competition arrives, I suspect you may lift your game.....I remember when you opened in 2003, seriously downhill from there!

Nice quirky little place with great food - although the service is beyond terrible. Went there 3 times, always forget to bring half of the food/drinks ordered. Waiters always come out with plates having no clue who ordered them. Also the staff is really nonchalant…. Wish they were a little bit more considerate! Would be helpful when people ordered you’d give table numbers so when they come out they know where the food has been ordered instead of interrupting everyone conversations outside by asking who ordered it. You’d probably benefit in having staff focusing on specific areas to improve customer experience.

This is the perfect spot for a chilled morning coffee and pastry. Very popular and I like to work from here sometimes. Great coconut cappuccino.

Endlessly disappointing! This place has so much potential- gorgeous exterior and location, and the food is tasty but the service is abysmal and I've had so many bad experiences that I'm finally writing a review. The staff are nice but extremely inattentive - to the point that I once waited 20 minutes to be served even though I'd already told them I was there before I sat down- they didn't even need to spot me. Even though the cafe is not normally very busy it seems to take forever to make a coffee and I've never been there without something being forgotten or missing, with no apology given. Last time our order went to the wrong table and we were left with nothing before chasing it - if the staff checked on the tables or paid attention they would have realised that there were 2 people sitting at an empty table and 2 not touching the coffees they 'ordered'. Every so often I give it this place another go because I want it to be good and it's such a nice spot, but every time I'm disappointed. I might have given up for good now. I live in hope that this review might prompt some improvement 🙏

Lovely, friendly neighbourhood cafe, serving the best toasties in SE London. It's not perfect and sometime there are problems with service, but the food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and it has a great vibe. My favourite cafe in Peckham.

Lovely cafe and location. Not too crowded. Staff were a bit slow to get to you...or rather they didn't at all. and didn't indicate clearly that you needed to go to the counter to order or request a menu. Good food though and great coffee. Pleased to see they had baby changing facilities, though a bit cramped to access.

Petite is a lovely location despite being on a semi-busy road. The outside seating is shielded from the sun and noise under the beautiful large trees, which I often opt for against sitting inside. The menus are always dirty with coffee stains and in need of an update. A wipe in the morning should be fine as they are the shiny card? The food itself is pretty uninspiring with salad/quiche but always changing specials that are veg-heavy. The cakes are quite nice and fresh, the brownies and almond tart were tasty, however the pastries leave something to be desired. Brunch options are the usual egg/avocado based. Their bread is tasty. Service is incredibly slow and lacking. Upon arrival you will always see dirty uncleared tables that you just have to plonk yourself down on until a member of staff acknowledges you 5 minutes later. On top of this, you often wait at the counter ignored by the staff making coffee- again no acknowledgement. I feel they are always a bit busy doing nothing, eg a member of staff folding napkins on an indoor table forcing me to sit on the dirty table next to it (with a dead fly next to the vase of dead flowers). To close off my review, I myself am a smoker but do not like to see staff smoking sat at a table positioned next to a baby. It is very unpleasant to see and emphases the staff really do not want to be there, which they already show. I wish I wanted to visit more as the cafe itself is a lovely building. What is up with this place?

The best cappuccino in the area. Good pastries and in general good food. The big and noticeable downsides are the cleanliness and service. Very often we have sticky and dirty table, messy environment and slow service.

The perfect place to sit and have a coffee, watching the world pass by. It's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Peckham but has a lovely, spacious terrace. If you like al fresco dining, this is the one cafe in Peckham that you should visit. The toasted sandwiches (especially the ham and cheese toastie) are very good, as is the mackerel pate, which is up there with one of the best I've had. On the sweet front, their fresh cakes are very good - I have a fondness for the PB&J Blondie. The staff are friendly too, which is a lovely bonus.
