Percival's Rest in Maidstone

We have never been here before and decided to meet our family for lunch to try it out. We all enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the food was enjoyable and the waitress really pleasant. So we would definitely return and recommend it.

Booked as a party of 5 as we were away for the weekend and staying close by at Stable Oak Cottage which was a short walk. The waitress was attentive and polite and recommended dishes when we were undecided. The food was tasty and large portion size. Nice quiet pub, clean and nicely decorated. We felt relaxed and weren’t rushed after we had finished our lunch.

We met for a family lunch and we all opted for the small fish and chips which was perfectly adequate for our appetite and left room for desert. The waitresses were very polite and efficient. The deserts were excellent especially the panacotta. The only criticism would be the size of the toilets as there appeared to be only two cubicles for men and ladies in total. This maybe a problem during busier times. Unless there were other facilities that we didn't know about. We would certainly return at some point.

Fab pub. Great atmosphere - good bands - superb attentive and friendly staff. Restaurant I think is trying too hard and maybe trying to be something it isn’t to attract a more upmarket clientele. The food was nice but not amazing for the prices. I would prefer pub classics with a twist for a bit less maybe rather than trying to be a pub bistro.

Lovely evening here with friends, the cauliflower wings were out of this world. All the food was well cooked and presented and served by an attentive waitress. Wine list was good and nice to see some local wines included. Restaurant was quiet but it was a week night and we weren’t hurried out the door. Would certainly go back.

Had Sunday roast was lovely plenty of meat and veg lovely roast potatoes will definitely be going back

I had heard Percival’s did an amazing roast & it didn’t fail to please! Absolutely stunning roast dinner - served lovely and hot - all tasted wonderful! Staff super friendly & a lovely touch to have a birthday brownie bought out for my friend who was celebrating her 30th. We will certainly be back 😊

Not as good as we expected. The restaurant was very spacious but did not have a cosy feel at all. Staff 5 star! The starters were great which had us waiting (for some time) with great expectation for our mains. However, the mains were average, the Paella was overpowered with Chorizo which was all I could taste so disappointing. The triple cooked chips were disappointing with many still hard. The onion rings arrived at the end of the meal, these were removed from our bill but were tasteless. There was a very large group in which took all the attention which I’m guessing affected our service/quality. Unfortunately, the large group had a couple of young lads who thought it was acceptable to use the restaurant as a playground running around and disrupting a nice evening with friends. The waitress nearly lost her tray of drinks due to their behaviour. I know children are children but there is a time and a place. Yes, I have children and when they were that age they would never have got down from the table as this is not acceptable in this environment. Overall, we do not plan to return.

The service was good but the food was very average pub grub, it certainly didn't justify the price they're charging. Lacked ambience and character, lower watt light bulbs would help. Not a place on my return list.

If you want to spend £100 on a Meal for Two in an otherwise cavernous restaurant inhabited by just one other table - a party of around 16 people from another totally different community - then this is certainly the place to go. But - then again - if you do not want an entire herd of uncontrollable little kids simply running riot around the place all night, then avoid at all costs. ‘You can enjoy what’s left of your evening in peace now,’ conceded one of that rowdy 16-person party as she eventually departed, gathering two screaming toddlers under her arms before thanking the staff for being one of the rare establishments that will actually accept a booking from their crowd. To be fair, the two starters of halloumi fries and chicken wings were decent, while the mains of fish and chips and Caesar salad were steady if not spectacular. Having booked a 20:00 table, surprisingly, it then all became a bit of a battle to get dessert given nobody told us that the kitchen closes at 21:00! To their credit, the servers were polite and helpful and recognising the mayhem that had ensued over the previous 90 minutes with those nomadic kids, offered an unsolicited ten per cent reduction on the bill. Equally, they added a ten per cent ‘service’ charge so all-in-all not too much was given away in the final reckoning. With no Rest at Percival’s it was but a hugely disappointing experience and - at £100 for two - one certainly not to be repeated.

Not only is this a lovely pub with character, the staff are absolutely lovely! Went for a birthday meal with some family, I can tell you the Romney Marsh Lamb was perfect as was everything else we had.

Really lovely food , I have tried most of it Staff are amazing Shark my dog loves Percival’s rest , drinks ,treats and lots of attention, she gets to flirt with other dogs . The staff have bent over backwards to assist me each time I visit .

A lovely dining experience. The new menu is fantastic. Kind attentive staff & beautifully cooked dishes. Ordered a mixture of small plates followed by a main meal, all full of flavour.

Great food - new menu is excellent. Really tasty and prices aren’t too bad either. This is our local pub and we visited recently for lunch, both had the crayfish sandwich which was 10/10. Loads of crayfish on sourdough that wasn’t too hard like when some places serve it. Came with chips which were great and a good amount. I also ordered the chicken strips with peppered gravy on the side which were really tasty. Will be back again to try something else!

Always a great meal with good service. Gastropub. Tends to be on the pricey side especially for wines. We’ve been before on previous visits to the area and we’re happy to go back.

We had a very pleasant lunch, first time visit. The food was good, fairly priced, well presented, and the staff excellent. However, the acoustics are bad so everyone is talking loudly in order to be heard. This could be remedied easily by sound absorbing decor.
