Per & Kor in Bristol, City of

I hate having to give a low review for what’s clearly a nice family run restaurant but our experience was less than optimal. Given the prices are quite high I don’t think this could be justified without me writing a review and giving some constructive feedback. To start the young waiter is very friendly, but because he is the only one serving he’s rushed. We didn’t get given menus when we were sat down, we were given some about 15 mins later by the older gentleman when he saw we hadn’t been given any yet. The starter took an hour to arrive. When it did it was tasty, but waiting that long for a starter kind of ruins the experience. Because there is only one waiter, there was no one checking if we were ok, or wanted any more drinks while we waited etc- which is what you would expect when the wait time was this long. We then waited another 50ish mins for mains and I didn’t enjoy mine- again the wait time ruined things. Because it was in a stone bowl it remained really hot, and I had to wait another 20 or so minutes for it to cool so I could eat. I get that this is how the dish is traditionally served and it would not have been an issue if the wait time had not been so long- but again the wait time ruined the experience. It looks to be one lady doing all of the cooking so I understand why there was a long wait- but this isn’t the way you can run a modern restaurant, especially with the higher prices. They need far more staff in both the kitchen and front of house. The restaurant is also cash only which isn’t the most convenient. Very disappointed, especially because we went out of our way to try this place after hearing good reviews. Update- I’ve thought about this more since writing the review and realised, as has happened at other restaurants, the decent thing to do after we waited so long would be to knock a percentage off the bill or give us some free drinks. Neither were offered. So very disappointed and will stick to my usual spots from now on.

Very tasty food, good ambiance and amazing service. Bit pricy but worth it tbh. We had the tteokbokki,kimchi jeon, and sizzling bibimbap. All delicious! Would be interested in trying persian food next time. Need to call to book in, would be great if they had a booking form or website to help manage this.

Wow. Just wow! Fab restaurant with amazing food and brilliant service. Couldn’t fault the place apart from being gutted we couldn’t eat a starter or a dessert as too full! we had houmous and special Persian bread, chicken katsu curry and sizzling beef. All plates were cleared! We had 2 bottles of Prosecco which were lovely. The man that served us was SO attentive and helpful and seemed to be running the place single handedly…..although we did see one lady who may have been the chef? We were lucky to have got a table as on the phone the lady said she would change our table to a 3 to accommodate us although on the night we had a bigger table! To clear one review up - a couple and a very small baby arrived during our meal and were welcomed with open arms just like everyone else! Also whilst dining 2 ladies came in thinking that leaving a message on the answer phone meant they had a confirmed booking and kept going on at the poor bloke who kept his cool and remained very polite so if u ring to make a booking make sure u speak to someone to confirm! We will definitely return next time we are in Bristol!

Excellent food, authentic Korean and Persian dishes, I eat out a lot in Bristol and always try to find good independent restaurants, this place hit the mark. The waiter was really friendly and polite, made good suggestions and was very attentive. I had a sizzling beef dish and kimchi, amazing flavours. Well priced too, just be aware they are cash only so go prepared or use the cash machine at the Co-op just down the road. Honestly the best food I've had in Bristol. Thanks, I'll be coming back with friends.

Great fusion of two cuisines - a unique experience in a lovely setting on Gloucester Road. Try the katsu curry and the baklava - thank me later!

Nice and delicious Korean food, reasonable price, most importantly their service is very good, the waiter is very polite and friendly and willing to give you a briefing of the menu, the atmosphere of the restaurant is excellent, definitely will come back for another try. The food portion is a little bit too large for me personally(at least for an asian),so unfortunately I'm already too full for their dessert, but I'll definitely recommend this restaurant for those who wants to try out the korean style food. I'll definitely give it a next try.

This place does remarkable korean food! I haven’t tried korean cuisine before and it did not disappoint. The kimchi pancake and seaweed roll starters were delicious and I was incredibly impressed by the beef bulgogi. My boyfriend had the kimchi hotpot which he really enjoyed. We both agreed we should return at some point to try the persian food on the menu. The service was also outstanding! The waiter was very welcoming and friendly. The place seems to be owned and run by a family so you can really tell how much love is put into the service, atmosphere, and food. I would definitely recommend a visit to per and kor. The only downside was that we had to pay in cash but the entire experience was absolutely worth going to the cash point beforehand. Definitely coming here again at some point!

This is a small, cosy restaurant with friendly service. The food was delicious, as was the glass of wine I had. I would definitely come here again.

The food here is delicious! Every dish is well-prepared and tastes authentic, both Korean and Persian. I recommend booking in advance, as they are always fully booked. We were lucky to walk in and get a table.

Really enjoyed my Korean bibimbap here. I was warned the chilli side sauce might be too hot but I asked for more! The ht rice continues to cook the egg after it has been served, it's a tasty dish I hadn't had before. This place is cash only and no longer BYO. Not the cheapest dining experience, but tasty.

Quickly Googleed somewhere nice to eat on Gloucester Road and this place popped up. We were not disappointed. They are currently looking for a new front of house so we had to be a little bit patient with the chap who was filling in helping out, but the food was really excellent.😊

Food and wine were both absolutely delicious. This restaurant is a real gem!

The hosts are friendly, and the food is delicious. We tried only the Korean dishes and it was the first time I’ve had what felt like genuine Korean food in Bristol. Usually Korean dishes are either smaller, more expensive or westernised to the point it loses its authenticity. None of that was true here. I would recommend the tteokbokki and sundubu Jjigae

Lovely unique restaurant. Looks beautiful, such friendly helpful service and great food. We had only the korean options as we have much less of that in Bristol and it was all delicious. According to my bf, it was one of the most authentic korean meals he’s had since living in Seoul. The young guy on a trial shift did a great job.

Loved this place. The food was all really tasty, although I would say there is more Korean than Persian. We ordered the seaweed roll and I had the chicken udon - it was so good. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was lovely, I especially loved the decor and the low lighting. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely. Recommend the mandu dumplings and teriyaki chicken.

A great restaurant with an even better service. The food worth trying. Mirza ghasemi (starter), ojingeo-bokkeom (korean main) and desserts (persian ice cream and ice cream with baklava) were all excellent. Apetizer (raw beef with egg) was on a salty side, while mahicheh (persian main) could use more salt. Overall can recommend as a place worth visiting.

One of my favourite places to eat in Bristol! Ordered the Tteokbokki and Kimchi bokkeumbap and both were so tasty. Nice atmosphere and good wine selection too.

Disappointing experience as my friend booked a table for 3 and I was told arriving there that it wasn’t possible because it was only table for 2s on weekend. They didn’t even try to help and we had to find something else last minute. We walked past the restaurant later and it wasn’t even full…

Very disappointed as I made a reservation that was confirmed. Arriving to the restaurant I was told that I couldn't have dinner because over the weekend reservations are only for 2 people. Me and my friends couldn't have dinner, no apology was given and we were treated like we should know this. I was never told about the 2 people rule.

It says they're open till 11, went there just after 9 on a Friday and the kitchen had already closed!! Shame, because the food seemed worth it.

Feel like this is a real hidden gem. Lovely decor and vibe and excellent food, both Persian and Korean. Doing dry Jan but wine list looks great too and very affordable. Will be back.

Just had a delicious meal at Per & Kor - gorgeous flavours in our Persian and Korean dishes & the Kimchi was very tasty and fresh. If you want something a bit different (large portions in our choices too, which wasn't what I'd expected), in a pleasant and chilled setting, then definitely try out this restaurant. Staff very friendly & attentive.

This place is fantastic. Tried the dokbokki / tteokbokki and it was delicious. The fried chicken and beef bolgogi were moreish and tender. Woke up craving it! Definitely go, fantastic family owned restaurant with everything made fresh to order (without a ridiculously long wait!), pretty decor also

Went here with my boyfriend on my birthday and it did not disappoint! Cosy and quiet, with lovely decor and service. The food was great, we shared hummous and Persian bread for a starter and both went for Korean mains. It was so tasty I can’t wait to return.

Super independent family-run restaurant. A good range of dishes from Persia and Korea. The four of us shared starters and had different main courses, all were tasty, well presented and there was plenty to eat. Highly recommended. Wonderful service from knowledgeable Nima; we’ll be back, thank you!

We came to Per & Kor on a recommendation and any expectations we had were exceeded. Every dish we had was incredible, with the two starters (seaweed roll and tofu dish) taking the top spots. Although the food was delicious, a highlight of our experience was our server, Nima, who gave us a really warm welcome and took care and clear joy in discussing his recommendations. He was charming, knowledgeable and relaxed, making the whole experience feel like we had entered into their family home for dinner. Best meal we've had in a long time, we can't wait to return soon. Tasty authentic food, great for a change and different to anything else I’ve had in Bristol. There isn’t many veggie mains (we went for 2) to pick from but there’s some great veggie starters — definitely recommend the tempura vegetables. The restaurant is owned by husband and wife. The wife does the cooking and husband is front of house. He told us since covid they’ve lost a lot of a their regular locals and have struggled to recruit staff so it’s just the two of them running the entire restaurant. Despite going through treatment at the moment and being in a lot of pain, the husband had a continuous smile on his face and was so sweet, kind and friendly. Would definitely recommend going here for a lovely atmosphere and personal experience.

It was quite hard for us to get table but it turns that inside was quite empty….The vibe here is really nice, beautiful decorations. Ordering food was a bit annoying because seems a lot of Korean food like Tteok-bokki and Budae-jjigae are not available. The food is actually not so professional. Dumplings soup feels like the food student can cook in the kitchen. Mackerel stew is too sweet and all flavors just can’t match up. The lamb meatball is the only main I can give it 6/10. The service from the young man is quite nice and he is very friendly(one star for him). But the other man(older, sorry about my word) was quite harsh to confirm the food with us. Anyway, if you already this far on Gloucester road, you deserve better.

This is our second time coming here, the food is always fantastic, it is run by a couple (husband-service, wife-chef), the atmosphere here is very comfortable and cute, music's lovely, must try here is the beef bulgogi, kimchi jeon, mandu, homemade pistachio saffron ice-cream, brownie and korean red ginseng tea. This restaurant is beautiful, the couple who own and run it are lovely and deserve a lot of praise for their hard work and kind service.

Really not happy with these people. We called four times during the day to book a table and left messages, with a number. to call back. Did they call us? No. When we finally spoke to them they said they had no tables. What poor servic. a simple call to say tell us would have been helpful. Will not try again no matter how good the food is meant to be.

Absolutely love the restaurant, stylish, comfortable interior and waiters ver super nice and friendly. The mix of Persian and Korean sounds odd but don’t worry it’s not fusion the nenu has a mix of dishes celebrating both cuisines. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh and a decent wine list too. Only drawback is they only take cash.

Food was very disappointing, chicken flavourless and the sauce covering it cold. and toilets could have been cleaner etc.

The most fantastic food. Just had a raw beef soy apple thing for starter and my only regret is that I didn't order two.

Ordered the Sundubu Jigae, was very disappointed. The hotpot arrived bubbling meaning I couldn't eat my food for 10 minutes until it had cooled down to the point where it wasn't hot as lava, and still managed to burn myself. The seafood was lacking in quantity and quality, the meager amount of calamari and prawns were incredibly tough and chewy, the calamari having the texture of leather boots. The flavour of the broth tasted like watered down kimchi with none of the sweet tanginess you'd expect from gochujang. My partner ordered the bokkeumbap which was okay. Not sure why this place is so well reviewed, the service was great but was expecting more based on the reviews.

This is a stunning little restaurant ran by a lovely couple. Food is fantastic. The presentation is just as good. My wife and myself made a last minute decision to eat here one evening and we loved every part of it. Peaceful relaxing atmosphere. Good drinks list. We will definitely be back. This place is great for a couple to go to. Can't recommend enough.

8.5/10 food - tofu starter was top notch as was the bulgogi. Good family service, nice wine (and very cheap). £75, including the tip, for 2x two course meal and a bottle. Always seem to struggle to get a table here, even when it’s empty - got lucky on our third try on a Monday night. Would book online and come again, if there were a system in place…

PENG AND KOR! Amirite? Guys? Load the beef bulgogi up into the lettuce sleeping bags, stuff in the rice and slot it into your Queen of the South! The chef was too busy to accept my handshake so here I am, telling you all about the bulgogi. Thank me later.

We had a really great meal here. The owners were so welcoming and friendly. The restaurant itself was cozy and beautifully decorated. We loved the food so much, it's our first time trying Korean food and it was delicious. Perfect kevels of spice and all the dishes were presented beautifully. The portion sizes are decent too, I couldn't finish my meal as I was so full but I took it in a doggy bag for lunch today. Will definitely return to try the rest of the menu

Cannot complain about anything here. Really delicious, fresh and unique dishes. I think probably 4 vegan options to chose from for mains - maybe more - I had the kimchi dumpling broth. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

We managed to get a last minute reservation on Valentine’s Day and I’m so glad we did! One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time and such a special and unique place. We had Persian starters and Korean mains, and both were delicious! The decor of the restaurant was beautiful and the owner so friendly and thoughtful. We’ll definitely be back 😊

I’ve wanted to visit this restaurant for so long and finally did last night. I’ve now got to say it is one of my new favourites. It’s a cosy, neighbourhood restaurant with the most genuinely lovely people running it. We opted for a mixture of both Persian and Korean dishes, which were absolutely fantastic. So many flavours and the portions were very generous. It’s hard to explain but you could just feel the passion through the cooking. It was honest, heartfelt and absolutely fantastic. The owners are so kind, so welcoming and I could have spoken to the gentleman serving us all night. If you are thinking about visiting, do it!

Wow just wow .The food was fantastic which also matched the service . My Korean chicken with udon noodles was simply beautiful and my partner had the noodle soup with dumplings to which he relayed to the chef how fantastic they were . The gentleman who served us was a wonderful character with so much knowledge . This place is a little gem that needs a visit . Thank you for a wonderful meal 🙂

We are from Bristol yet we’d never heard of Per & Kor before and stumbled across this restaurant by sheer chance, but what a find! The restaurant itself was warm and welcoming and the service was top tier. The starters were out of this world and the mains was equally impressive, 3 starters and 2 mains between us. Daniel was a great host, so friendly and clearly proud of their independent family run restaurant. We can’t wait to return!

Lovely meal, lovely little set up with some super tasty food. Good value as well, £17 for a bottle of good wine, bargain Only downside is that you have to pay in cash which can be annoying if the nearby cash machine is out of cash, so make sure you have cash ready to go

Fabulous dinner, good value, lovely ambiance. We booked for an anniversary dinner. We had 2 starters and 2 mains. All delicious. I had a doggie bag as couldn't finish the generous portion. Cash only. Now licensed. Decent range of wines. Excellent value. Family owned and run. Highly recommended.

Cosy little restaurant run by a really kind and welcoming Persian-Korean couple (just the 2 of them, I was amazed by the menu variety given that it's just one person in the kitchen). The menu leans a bit more towards Korean than Persian and each dish is distinct one or the other, there's no fusion to speak of, but having a huge choice of options from both culinary cultures is a real treat! Definitely book beforehand just to be safe! Cash only + children 'not encouraged'
