We arrived for lunch during a week in early December when a number of groups were visiting for Christmas get togethers. The fact that the cafe was very busy did not pose a problem for the very friendly and efficient staff, who took our orders and served our food very quickly. The food itself (we had soup followed by carrot cake) was excellent, and very good value for money. NB: we had a similar lunch out in Bath the following day which cost a lot more and was nowhere near as nice. We'll definately come back next time we're in Shepton Mallet.

This is the second time we have asked Peppers to cater for us, once for a drinks party for 50 people and now for a funeral afternoon tea for 60 people. I could not fault the food or the service. The tea, cakes and sandwiches provided were excellent as was the service and we got lots of compliments from our friends. I would highly recommend.

Lovely little café on the side of a well stocked deli in a pretty little high street. I had a 'cheese tea,' a savoury take on the usual cream team. The cheese scone was home made, delicious and was served with butter, cream cheese and a choice of three chutneys. Along with a mug of tea, an absolute bargain price of £3.50. Note to owner - charge more for this!! There was an easily accessible clean toilet facility. Service was friendly, solicitous and impeccable. Other meals served looked just as delicious. I was delighted to have found this gem of a café and cannot recommend highly enough.

Visiting Shepton Mallet around lunchtime we decided to try this restaurant for lunch. The moment we entered through the shop we knew we'd made a good choice. Very bright and informal we were greeted and served by a very friendly gentleman ( owner maybe?) . The menu is not huge, but quite varied so something for everyone. We ordered sandwiches which were obviously freshly made to order. Fantastic thick cut fresh bread with quality fillings ( ham salad and egg mayonnaise ) which came with crisps washed down with delicious chilled apple juice. Chalk boards with different cakes, scones etc were displayed on the walls and the prices were very reasonable. Everything we sneaked a peek at as it was served to customers looked delicious! We left after buying some biscuits from the shop, and a bottle of the Apple juice we had with our lunch ! Should we ever return to Shepton Mallet we would certainly eat here again. Thoroughly recommended!

Maybe this place is just run for the benefit of local people and the rest of us will 'find nothing here'. I've popped in twice now. Both times just for a cup of tea - 'what you not eating?'. Second time round that didn't go down too well. Cearly I was meant to have a scone or two. But the tea is good, so I can't give them 'terrible' much as I want to. The problem here is customer service. I had a lovely smile from the woman behind the counter of the deli (the cafe is part of the same operation). But the guy 'waiting' on the customers in the cafe just has no idea of how to interact with people. He's surly, one whisker away from downright rude. He doesn't want you in the place and he let's you know it in no uncertain terms. I don't want anybody losing their job, but maybe he could be moved to another department where no public interface is required. Perhaps he could have some training. Or maybe he could just lighten up and re-connect with humanity. The quality of foodstuffs and the displays in the deli looks pretty high. They obviously do well on outside catering gigs (they were preparing for one on my second visit and, clearly, it was far more important than me, my cup of tea and the friend I was there to meet). Okay, the cafe is not high on atmosphere and the decor is a little drab, but - honestly - it looks like it could be a little goldmine. I hope they can work that out. But the first thing that guy needs to learn is that, as a customer, I am the most important thing in his establishment. Do your preparations for your outside catering gig by-all-means. But do them discreetly. Don't make it so obvious me and my friend aren't welcome. Then I won't write you a rotten review on here.

My family popped to Shepton Mallet for the day and decided to find a cafe. After reading google reviews saying family friendly we decided to go in. We walked through the lovely delicatessen shop to get to the cafe entrance. We were then greeted by a very unwelcoming man who said ‘Can I help you?’ We asked if there was space for us. He replied in a VERY patronising manor ‘We are closed, we closed at 2pm, it says that on the board outside! We selected Peppers for lunch based on reviews and thankfully we were not disappointed. It may not look enticing from outside however the food and service was excellent. Afternoon tea comprised wholemeal scones and delicious homemade jams coupled with a generous portion of clotted cream. The proprietors are running a lovely eatery and deli stocked with wonderful produce; I really wish I could relocate them to a more fitting site such as Frome or Wells.

Visited this unpromising looking deli/cafe for a late lunch on a November Wednesday. The town was deserted as was the cafe, although apparently it is always busy between 12 and 2pm.The lunch menu was provided promptly and had a good selection of snacks, sandwiches etc. We had the soup of the day...very tasty pea, leek and mint and sandwiches...very fresh and certainly substantial.couldn't resist the ginger and treacle tart...Lovely. And the Christmas menu looks so good that we may make the 60 mile journey from home to sample it. A gem in a quaint, pretty but sadly rather run down little town.

This super little restaurant is in the heart of the relatively quiet high street of Shepton Mallet. There is a wide choice of food. Even a late morning snack of toast and marmalade is appetising - the bread is fresh and crusty. Service is excellent. I love browsing in the attached, amazingly well-stocked deli shop on the way out, and I am usually tempted to buy something I do not need! There is plenty of parking available in the area as, sadly, Shepton is a somewhat 'forgotten' town.

How pleased we were to find this place, they have a separate gluten free menu and also one for dairy free. The staff were friendly and the food excellent. We enjoyed between the four of us, a burger, a chicken and bacon warm salad ( this was not a plate of lettuce leaves as is often the case!) and two of us had cheesy potato wedges, one with garlic mushrooms, and the other with goats cheese, you then choose three salads from the menu to accompany the wedges. Other half and self went on a wander on a wonderfully sunny autumnal day.Strange, I could not find this restaurant through searching the TA data base.Anyway this is a two in one place. When you enter you find the most amazing lovingly presented delicatessen full of good local food including milk from a farm 3 miles away. If you want to spoil yourself go and shop here and maybe spend 25% more than in the supermarket but without the chemicals etc.I entered the restaurant side. Everyone who works there is in love with the place and that includes waitresses, the cook, and the male waiter. I ordered a cream tea for three pounds. The scone was lovely and thick, home-cooked just right with lashings of cream and a choice of three types of quality jam. When we went to pay I complimented the staff on the quality of cream and they took me around to show me the actual cow from whom the cream came. It was cream so pure and delicious that my body welcomed it.I really believe that food served here is an act of love and it was a great privilege to go and sample this place. This restaurant by the way is in the original high Road and very historic containing lots of really interesting shops. You might go along the alleyway at side to the local church which has an amazing roof. To add to the atmosphere, a guitarist was squatting down and playing the most lovely music while being bathed in the afternoon sun.Anyway, I better stop this review before I get carried away.

We came here to find a great range of healthy yet interesting dishes on the menu to suit all appetites. As a veggie I'm not used to having so many things to choose from so I was delighted to see probably a dozen main meals on offer. There were plenty of meat options too. I had a lovely homemade beanburger and my partner had salmon fishcakes, both came with generous portions of a wide choice of different salads. It was so refreshing to be able to eat something so healthy and so tasty whilst on holiday. Peppers has a separate gluten free and dairy free menu, and I asked if they served vegan food, so they checked for me, and they do! They gave me the dairy free menu and a hand written list of everything that wasn't vegan, so I knew what to look out for. How kind!I ordered the Mexican Vegetable Fajitas with tomato salsa and guacamole. It came quickly, was piping hot and to my delight was perfectly spicy. Being in Shepton Mallet over lunchtime and not knowing it, we decided to have lunch at the Haskins Café. However we walked down the High Street and discovered Peppers, an independent deli and café. I thought, being independent, maybe they put more of their hearts into it. The café was empty when we went in, never a good sign, but within 20 minutes it was almost full (on a Monday lunchtime). My tagiatelli with tomato sauce and a green salad was excellent, nicely served in a bistro kind of way and the green salad was clearly freshly prepared. My wife doesn’t usually order quiche but this one, a double Gloucester and red onion was declared one of the best she had had. Well worth visiting.

We don’t really know Dorking but came for a comedy gig and wanted food and drink before the show. We booked a table online and then were a bit confused when we walked in as it’s looks like a work space but then has a bar and says it served food. The staff explained they had a limited menu currently. As we were there and we’d booked we thought we’d give it a go. We ordered halloumi fries to start and then various burgers - whilst initially worried this was just going to be a zap in the microwave job; how wrong we were. The food was so good. The food was restaurant quality!! The staff (particularly the gent I assume was the manager) were so friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely go again; and look forward to when they have their full menu.

A truly great evening was had last night. We went for a Christmas meal, and from the point of arrival when we found “Thatchers Zero” in the fridge for the designated driver, to settling up at the end of the evening the experience was great. Super friendly staff, and a well behaved pub dog who just had a look of “please love me” on his face. The food was superb, and the price was good value for money. I would definitely recommend the pub.

Visited Glastonbury whilst on a weeks break in Crewkerne. Popped into to this lovely cafe as it was dog friendly. Forgetting my glasses I asked if they catered for gluten free, they did (it stated it on the menu). As I ordered the lady behind the counter asked if I was coeliac, I told her I was. When the food was brought to the table, the lady explained that she had cleaned the kitchen and prepared my food using all new unopened ingredients. All I had was a corned beef and onion sandwich, but the attention to detail was second to none. Really recommend this place to coeliacs and non coeliacs.

The Sunrise Cafe may look like an ordinary cafe on the outside but inside the food is something special! Choose something from The Thai menu if you like Thai food and you will experience some of the best authentic Thai cooking outside Thailand! We stopped here for lunch after driving around the Malvern Hills all morning thinking it was just a normal cafe but discovered that it also had a Thai Menu cooked by a delightful Thai lady Chef called "Jim". I am not sure how she came by that name but she was definitely a woman! We chose Tom Yum chicken soup and checked that would not be too spicy hot first. It was perfect and also contained Mushroom, Sping Onion and Tomato. Incredibly tasty with a mild warmth aftertaste. We followed this with a Chicken Massaman Curry which included a Jasmine sticky rice. The curry was the best we have tasted. It looked so appetising with it's rich golden colour. The friendly Hungarian waitress also supplied us with water and afterwards my wife Angie had a hot chocolate and I had a White Cofffee. A fantastic meal and drinks for just under £20 a head. If you are touring the Malverns this is worth taking a detour for! It is open from about 8:30 am to 4pm this time of the year and has a garden available at the back for outdoor seating in the summer months. The Cafe also serves a range of cooked breakfasts and lunches or hot sandwiches, some deserts, milkshakes, hot and cold drinks.
