I popped in for a mid-morning treat to take away. I was disappointed in the lack of choice - clearly there had been a rush for breakfast items and there were lots of gaps in the display. I chose an almond croissant which was £3.50. It was heavy, greasy, and the top came off from where it had been cut to spread the almond paste. I won't be buying from there again, which is a shame because the setting and location is lovely.

The coffee and food is delicious! Prestbury has a large amount of older folk and young mums with push chairs/prams etc and Penny Blacks although beautifully decorated and very cool does not have the best layout. Perhaps lower the tables on the ground floor section put in regular chairs here rather than the high stools, which are uncomfortable and difficult for elderly folk to clamber onto. Maybe shifting the kitchen/serving area to the back of the shop, or where there’s a little more space might help, then it will stop bottle necking the access. However, despite this, so pleased to have a bakery/cafe in the village and I dream of one day maybe cheese scones might make an appearance.

I regularly visit Penny Blacks every Sunday morning before going to church - the staff are friendly but the coffee is very variable, depending on who is making it. Today, I called in at 15.02 for a coffee and my usual doughnut. The person serving was clearly not really interested in my order, and had to ask me again what I wanted. I got the coffee (not the best)but no doughnut. But I was given a warning that the cafe would be closing in 28 minutes - very welcoming. The future of my Sunday morning treat is now in doubt.

I thought I would drop in for some lunch and a coffee and catch up with some admin-work on my laptop. As I work from home, I normally drop into a coffee shop over lunch reasonably regularly. And, as I'm on my own, I normally take some work with me. Unfortunately, just after I finished my lunch and coffee, I was persuaded to leave today. Apparently they don't permit laptops in the eating area! They only permit laptop usage on the high-chair table near the front of the store - which isn't great if you've back problems like me. Oh well. So much for trying 'local'. Back to Costa again tomorrow!

Stopped here on the way home for a quick black coffee. Usually the coffee I get from other coffee shops comes out scolding but this was a prefect temperature. Two friendly women behind the counter and quick service. Can’t go wrong and scran looks alright as well. 😃

Prestbury really needed a cafe. There are three pubs in the village but so far there has been nowhere else to sit down and have a sandwich and a coffee. Fortunately Penny Blacks opened in the old post office (hence the name) and is deservedly popular with locals. It is dog-friendly, child-friendly and just plain friendly. The coffee and the pastries are good, so are the sandwiches and the brunch items.

Always a pleasure to have breakfast/brunch at Penny Blacks. The service is always friendly and the food and drinks delicious. A bonus is being able to buy pastries and the best sourdough to take away. Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. We have only ever had a perfect experience. Lucky to have this on our doorstep too.

We popped in for a late lunch as we had never visited before. Both myself and my husband ordered a croque madam, which was a special. It took quite a while to arrive even though only 2 tables were occupied. I almost wish it hadn't arrived as I couldn't eat it! It was covered and filled with some sort of mustard sauce. I have never been served such unappetising food and for £11 it wasn't cheap. The only saving grace we the lovely side salad. My husband ate more than me because he felt he should and we both felt sick for the rest of the day. In the restaurant itself, it wasn't very warm and there was no music or atmosphere. I was very disappointed as I have many memories as a child of going to the post office for my penny sweets, but I definitely won't be returning.

We are lucky to have this close to where we live. Great coffee to drink in or takeaway when I need to. However the brunch we have occasionally is delicious. I would highly recommend giving it a try. At busy times you will need to be patient. This is a small place with a tiny open kitchen. The chef (who is great) and the other staff all work incredibly hard and the food and should be commended for the food and drinks they manage to get out.

I have been to Penny Black several times and have now completed the loyalty card. The coffees are great but my favourite is the Brie BLT. The staff are great (especially the chef) and are no slower than anywhere else - was actually really speedy today. The loos are beautiful and have lovely bramble soaps. I had to write this review as I was really surprised to see how low it has previously been reviewed- I ve never had a bad experience here. The only negative I’d say about it is that it’s not open on Monday or Tuesday

I dropped in for two hot drinks and two pastries mid-morning on a Sunday. There were a handful of people waiting for takeaway, and I was third in line. After paying, I was told there would be a 10 minute waiting period, which was I prepared to wait as it appeared to be a busy period. After 30 minutes, I had seen others having takeaway orders come and go. I was willing to give some flexibility because there were only four members of staff: till, drinks, chef, and washer. No apology was offered for the longer than anticipated wait. At 40 minutes, a couple that had ordered food and drinks for eat-in, who had arrived after me and been served, had now finished their meals and drinks, and left. Having seen others who had ordered after me be served whilst I was overlooked, I was not willing to wait any longer, so I requested a refund. None of the staff knew how to process a refund, so I waited yet another 10 minutes while one of them called their manager to find out the process. Finally, with my wife and toddler unable to wait any longer (now because the staff members still could not operate the till), I accepted a refund that was given to me from the tip jar. If you like to receive coffee in a reasonable timeframe (or at all, in my case!) I suggest you avoid Penny Blacks in Prestbury.

Lovely pastries here as one would expect from Baker and Graze. I wanted to add that the shop is not very accessible - two steps to enter then steps up to main seating area and steps up to loos. Felts I should add this as not sure how a wheelchair user would manage. Otherwise the service was good and with a warm positive environment.

I previously gave this cafe a 1-star review shortly after its opening having had terrible service from a man who appeared to be the manager (Feb 2022). Since then I have swung by twice and he wasn't there on either instance. (I walk past regularly and haven't seen him in the cafe on any occasion in the last month or so, so he may have moved/been moved on.) My more recent visits have been excellent. Great service by a range of different staff members and the food and coffee has been spot on.

25minute wait in the queue and I was 2nd in-line. Several tables on arrival still had dirty plates and cups to which one was cleared whilst I stood there but not cleaned down. 1 member of staff frantically working solo in the kitchen. Ran out of plates constantly with deferred the young girl making hot drinks. 2 coffees and 2 cakes £13.50 and the coffee was lukewarm. Really disappointed with this new shop in our local village. Shame staff not even polite or friendly Needs more attention

Long wait for our order. Coffee was pretty decent. Hubby’s bacon sandwich was delicious. Sadly, the gluten free version was not palatable and returned. No refund offered.

Great food in really nice environment, not expectantly over priced either. Plenty of choice and staff friendly and prompt, will be back again.

We had really been looking forward to Penny Blacks coming to Prestbury, and went for brunch one weekend not too long after it had opened. Unfortunately one of the meals we ordered did not arrive and when we asked the manager about it he was pretty rude and did not offer any kind of apology. The rest of the staff were pleasant and the food, when it arrived, was lovely.

Popped in to grab some breakfast for the family. Paid over £20 for some hard croissants. The service was also as luke warm as the coffee!

The Sunday carvery is great deal for the price if you go other pubs you are paying a lot of money for less. Cheap for a family to go. And have money left be going every Sunday from now on

We came for our breakfast and as expected we both enjoyed it. Wetherspoons food is always good which is why we keep using them. We both had different breakfasts but both loved them as usual. It's a pleasure to have it made for you. Well done guys, we will be back I'm sure.

Parked in what we thought was the free pub car park, received a parking fine for £100 one week later. We arrived when it was pitch black and due to COVID restrictions couldn't leave our table once we were seated. Hence, we didn't have a clue we had to pay to park. The staff didn't mention it to us at any point. Strange considering how many terrible reviews they're getting for the exact same reason? Why oh why.

Charles is amazing, such a gent. Gave great advice to us as we had no clue where to start with our planters. Also, helped take our purchases to the car. I can’t give enough praise for this place.

Mid week the Harrow had plenty of space to accommodate an impromptu family gathering. I know that at weekends it’s really advised to reserve a table. We’ve been coming to this pub pretty much all our lives, but was impressed by the upgrades and expansion. The menu was interesting and didn’t disappoint. The service from Shane was awesome. They have some great offers and discounts online so that diners of all budgets can enjoy it. Definitely putting this back on my “visits Home” itinerary.
