Took my daughter out for a late Sunday roast and we weren’t disappointed. We both had the beef and it was delicious and a generous portion. Staff were really friendly and helpful and the views were amazing. The price was really reasonable and we will both definitely be back to this gem.

Amazing Sunday breakfast. It looks closed when you drive in to the car park and if you try to get in through the restaurant door you will still think it’s closed. Be creative go to hotel reception, no obvious sign just look for the door. If you are persistent you will be delighted by the breakfast. We went for Fathers Day breakfast. Choice of raspberries, strawberries, melon, yogurt cereal etc. Followed by cooked breakfast made to order. Beautifully cooked ingredients which. I couldn’t resist toast and marmalade to finish. Choice of a pot of tea or coffee. My only criticism would be that the coffee could be a little stronger but that’s my preference. A lovely food experience sat at a white starched table cloth in a calm environment with lovely staff.

Booked for the Mother’s Day afternoon tea . There were three of us. We were seated and served promptly . We got our tea and coffee . The afternoon tea is nothing special some very basic sandwiches, unfortunately they seemed like they had been “stood” not fresh as they were a little dry. The scones were small, no fruit we weren’t given a choice as to with or without . The Jam and clotted cream were stingy and there was barely enough for two scones let alone three . The cakes were ok, limited in the selection as it was carrot and walnut , and then another carrot like cake, a macaroon which was nice and then a dry chocolate cake . Over all experience wasn’t awful, the staff were ok . The afternoon tea it’s self was not overly expensive but even for the price I think they could have done better .

My husband and I have just arrived back after a weekend here. What a lovely, relaxing hotel to stay at. Comfortable surroundings in a very warm atmosphere, this beautifully situated hotel is the perfect stop off point to explore the wonderful rolling Dale's. Quite a small room ,however, it was tastefully decorated, warm with a comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. I have to say it was spotlessly clean throughout. The staff were especially helpful and friendly, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. Warm friendly smiles from both staff and patrons made a very welcoming visit for us. Again the bar and restaurant were decorated lovely throughout, with two large fires to burn away the winter chills. All in all, my hubby and I had a lovely weekend and hope to return again in the near future. Thank you all at the Pennine Hotel for a relaxing night away with great food and drink. Tracey and Wayne.

We went last Sunday for lunch. Three generations on a family reunion. If it hadn't been for another big birthday party, the restaurant would have been empty. Fortunately we're a lively family and made our own atmosphere. The views are fabulous but we were sitting as far away from the window as possible.

Today we enjoyed one of the best afternoon tea’s I’ve ever had. This needs booking beforehand as everything is baked fresh. In our party we’re 3 adults and 3 children. We ordered for 5. We were seated in the bar area and were made extremely welcome. Lovely touch, proper linen napkins. An amazing selection of freshly prepared sandwiches including hand carved beef and ham, tuna mayo, egg mayonnaise and cheese. More than enough, we probably only managed 3/4s of them. The homemade desserts were to die for. Fresh out of the oven scones with jam and cream. Lemon tart, brownies, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate milkshake( made with ice cream) and I can honestly say the best panacotta I have ever tasted topped with rhubarb. We had a never ending supply of tea too. Both Georgia and Emma were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The little touches like giving the children activity packs was very much appreciated. At £9.95 a head this is something we will definitely be repeating.

What a shame it’s gone so downhill. No one but us in the restaurant, no one in the bar, no atmosphere at all. The food was poor - beef dinner was not hot enough and fish n chips were very poor, frozen chips which looked reheated and mushy peas you could use as cement. It’s such a shame as it used to be so nice. No bar snacks available either - what a let down!

We visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. Haven't been for many years and thought whilst we are experiencing such nice weather we would give it a try as the views are spectacular. First of all i booked on line and the website said i would receive a confirmation. I did not receive this so gave the hotel a call on Friday to confirm and they had not received it. They asked if i could come a little later than we had wanted and so expected the restaurant to be busy - it wasn't. The table in the restaurant was fine and the views just as expected. However we did all comment on the smell - it was the fat in the cooking you could smell. There were 4 of us, 2 adults, 1 teenager and a child. At no point were we asked if we required a children's menu so we all ordered off the main menu. The starters arrived; 2 of us had the salmon and 2 had the chicken wings. All dishes were nicely presented and tasty. Main courses, my husband had the fish and chips, i had the roast beef dinner and the kids had the chicken and sea bass. The food was very average except the sea bass. This was not acceptable. I wish we had taken a photo! The piece of fish was approx 7 cm long and 4cm wide in a rectangular shape and overcooked. My teenagers face was a look of disappointment or maybe just disbelief!. There was 2 or 3 mouthfuls and gone ... not many potatoes and a mess of veg. We mentioned it to one of the staff and we were told that sea bass is expensive. We then explained that yes we know that but this piece was a joke. He then offered said he would not charge for a glass of wine or we could change the dish but it would be a while. My teenager said he would just eat it. All in all disappointed and will be sometime before we try again as there are much better places in our lovely area.

We’ve stayed at Pennine Manor several times now and each stay has been excellent. We stay using the Sleep and Dine offer that the hotel has and it is extremely good value for money. The food is superb and on its own is worth it the cost of the overnight stay. The ‘all you can eat’ breakfast is delicious too! The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable and the situation of the hotel means it’s a quiet spot but conveniently close to the motorway. We had a small gripe when the bar was closed early and without any notice to the people in the bar area meaning we were all left a little bewildered. The bar manager (I think that’s what he is?!) has been a little offhand a couple of times we have visited and it’s a shame as it’s the only issue we’ve ever had. A smile and a courteous ‘last orders’ call wouldn’t be much to ask but would mean people didn’t have their evenings end on a sour note. Saying that I’m sure we’ll be back for our next stay very soon!

The booking in the hotel was easy and the staff very friendly. The room was lovely. The only criticism we had was no blind in the bathroom! It had privacy glass but that is not the same as a blind! The only let down to the weekend was the evening meal in the restaurant. My husband ordered the pennine burger, Luckily he cut it in half before he ate it because it was red and cold in the middle, he sent it back and ordered another one but this one was a bit better cooked and hotter but still too pink in the middle for a burger! So this got sent back too. The staff and manager were very apologetic but it ruined the evening. My husband didn't get a meal because he was put off! If a chef can't cook a burger thoroughly he shouldn't be there! Breakfast was lovely. And the staff in the breakfast room were very friendly.

We were here with friends to celebrate our joint wedding anniversaries and had a lovely evening. One member of our party had the starter of potted shrimps which was very tasty and served with some kind of melba toast which was rather hard, the duck was exceptionally good as was the cheese board with a good assortment of cheese, plenty of biscuits, celery and grapes. The sea bass was excellent, as was the belly pork, but the chicken with rocket and pear salad had too much rocket and not enough pear. Two of us did not fancy anything from the dessert menu so asked if we could have strawberries and cream which they said we could, when it came I personally would have liked more than one sliced strawberry served with two large cream quenelles, but at least they had fulfilled our request. The waiter was very helpful in finding a particular red wine for one of our party which was enjoyed by all of us. We had a wonderful meal, the staff were friendly and very helpful, the service attentive and at the right pace, overall we had a splendid evening thanks to all the staff.

Sampled lunch here while on business and had we not been there they may as well have turned the lights off and locked the door as we had the restaurant all to ourselves. The menu looked better than any other option I've been given while attending a training course and the location of the hotel is stunning with panoramic views thanks to it's location perched high up overlooking the Moors/ Pennines. The downside of this though is that the place can get Baltic on a cold day and this was an issue on the day in question. After choosing from the extensive menu I was looking forward to the dinner and when the food came I wasn't disappointed ..............initially. The food was exceptionally well presented but there was no real taste or flavour to back this up. I had Bruschetta for starters and fish and chips for main course but sadly the fish in particular was very tasteless. The only thing I could put this down to was the rush to serve our party of 16 simultaneously. I didn't complain about the food as it was edible and was paid for as part of the training course. The food might possibly be much better during the restaurants standard opening times (evenings) but I can only go on my visit.

A local restaurant, often overlooked but do so and your missing out on fabulous food and first class service We have visited the Pennine Manor many times and would happily recommend it to anyone, especially for the Sunday roast. The staff are very welcoming and the menu offers variety at a very reasonable cost. The quality, portion size and value for money are very good indeed. If, like me, you opt for the Roast Beef Sunday lunch, ensure your last meal is before Wednesday. My fabulously rare (at my request) Roast beef was accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding the size of a small child's head and the veg garden from a country mansion. Fearing for my trouser waist, I didn't opt for desert, which my family did. They looked very good indeed. With options of cask ale, a very good wine list and views across the whole of Yorkshire, it really is a great place to watch the world go by, as you enjoy great food and great service.Would i recommend? We had booked the pennine manor for the xmas eve buffet with a overnight stay. We decided to arrive early for lunch . The lunch was lovely what I would have expected for this lovely hotel .we then checked into our rooms we had 3 booked, the rooms were chilly but we thought they would warm up .. We went to sit in the bar for a couple of hours . We then went to get changed unfortunately the rooms were still chilly so we went to the reception and they organised potable heaters for the room. We then went to the Branson room for the buffet. That room was also cold but again they brought another portable heater . Then the buffet itself , I don't really know how to describe it , but it was not we expected when the manager came round I had to tell her we were unhappy with the situation especially the food , Mandy the manager could not do enough to rectify the situation , she refunded the cost of the buffet and als £20.00 per room for the heating . We then went to sit back in the bar by the fire to warm up . In Mandy's favour she kept looking in yo see if we were alright . I hope the group realise what a hard worker she is and all the effort she puts into her job to keep all her customers happy .

From the brilliantly easy online booking system to the moment we drove away after the meal, our whole experience was a complete joy.We requested a table with a view (they are SPECTACULAR) and mentioned that we were celebrating my father's 65th birthday on the online booking form. As we arrived for our booking our welcome could not have been warmer. My three year old son was treated with equal cheer and was treated like a prince throughout. We were gently ushered to our table, with a view, and as a lovely thought the table had Happy Birthday sprinkles and a few balloons floating from a centrepiece. My parents thought that they must have known us because of this lovely welcome, rather than this being our first visit. Rather wonderfully, we saw that ALL of their guests were being treated equally well. The staff were without exception caring, cheerful and extremely professional. The food was from the carvery, the roast meats were perfectly cooked (the roast beef was beautifully pink inside and succulently tender) and the vegetables were tasty with bite. The only personal preference was the roast potatoes were a tad hard and as a BIG part of any roast dinner that's why the food only gets a four out of five for me (picky? Oh well)As a combination of great value for money, fabulous taste, texture and ambience, I simply cannot fault The Pennine Manor. The service and welcome, however, transcended all of this and is the main reason for me recommending this restaurant so highly and why I shall be returning again soon.

As for service our waitress was Chelsea who was working on her own, but nothing was too much trouble and her willingness to please was a pleasure to find in this day and age. We visited here as a pre-pre-visit for our wedding reception! We decided against it. The food was lovely and arrived fairly quickly but the staff did not come across as overly friendly. Cannot comment on the rooms as we did not stay as it was just a quick visit.

We were taken here by my parents-in-law for their birthday celebrations and I must admit I wasn't looking forward to it! I thought it would be overcooked, cheap joints of meat served with soggy veg and no style. How wrong I was!The Sunday we went was very snowy and we were pleased to see that others had battled through the snow for this Sunday Carvery. The place was warm, welcoming and reasonably priced (£16.50 for 3 courses).A choice of starters which were served to you, then a choice of 3 meats from the Carvery (other options were on the menu - salmon and vegetarian) with a large selection of vegetables and potatoes. Then puds. I'm a stickler for my Roast Beef to be Sirloin (not Topside, please) and was very pleased to see it at the Carvery (a little pinker would have been even better). The service was good and attentive and it was nice that they could accommodate the 8 of us o a round table. The decor was starting to look a little dated. So all in all, I was glad I went and shall return again on a less snowy Sunday

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.

We had a lovely evening here. Upon arrival the pub was clean and welcoming. Myself, my mother and my daughter came and the staff were so lovely and assertive. The food was really nice, we came in here as we were visiting the area and we would definitely come again.

The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .

" Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!
