Popped in one lunchtime. Good deal on meals. Staff friendly & helpful. Food was good.

Food, quick service and value for money all good. But the experience is sadly let down by the state of the floor - it is quite disgusting.

Well l had high hopes for this place after reading reviews but oh was I disappointed my wife had jacket potato well that's what it said on the menu overcooked frozen potatoe and plastic cheese and no butter my how can you get a jacket potato so wrong 😞 really I had the carvery well the turkey could have been anything the roast potatoes and parsnips was burned the carrots where tasteless what can I say I would definitely not be going back or recommend going save your money even the service was pretty poor

Extremely disappointed. Took my Dad for 91st birthday too😞he ordered gammon which was black on sides and meat was too touch to eat . Chips not hot . My mother had the smothered chicken which had a film of cheese on top which was rubber. Chips cold. I had ordered sausages and mash . Cheap sausages with touch skin , few threads of onion on top and I guess the potato was instant . Few peas and cold gravy. I asked if it could be re heated in microwave… it came back warmer but honestly it was tasteless . I cancelled a reservation I had made for friends on 18th as too embarrassed to take them there ! I couldn’t help but notice the table behind us had left most of their meals… fish and chips and a plate of chips .

We visited on Monday 9th at approx 4pm on the way back from Saltash. We ordered the Smothered Chicken with side salad instead of Garlic Bread and the Gammon dish. Everything was cooked beautifully. I believe the waitress said that the Chef on duty was called Dave. Thanks very much again, we will be back.

We have had lunch here before, so thought we would again. We were seated and ordered drinks, we then ordered 3 fish and chips, the meals arrived and immediately you could tell that the fish in batter had been cooked for to long, my husband cut into his and it just shattered and there was no fish. We definitely won't be going back.

We arrived here at peak time with no reservation and although appeared extremely busy the manager robbie was great at fitting us in last minute, the food was amazing and service really fast everything came out warm and lovely and efficiently. The kids menu option is 3 course for 6.49 is an absolute bargain and all 4 children thoroughly enjoyed their meals! Yummy puddings too and lots of vegetarian and vegan options for those with dietary requirements. Restaurant is clean and tidy and staff all friendly and efficient. Shout out to lucas who despite being new was super efficient and friendly . Definitely worth a visit just a shame the weather was raining or we could of spent longer on the play area.

Had a carvery today. However we paid gor a larger size but was disappointed on the mount that was given to us. It probably wasn't hardly anymore than normal size. The man who was serving today is very stingy and miserable looking

Pleasant restaurant and good value

Not been here in a while even though we are local and was very disappointed. The restaurant was filthy with food all on the floor, food on our seats, the menus where covered in coffee and was sticky. The staff really wasn't interested in serving and would rather stand at the other end of the bar talking amongst thier selves. The place wasn't overly busy and the food came fairly quickly unfortunately on dirty plates and most of the food items where burnt and the portions where really small compared to what they used serve. I won't be hurrying back there anytime soon after the bill came £112 which is a lot of money for not alot of food which wasn't all that great.

Would have given more for food and service, but staff are slow to take orders and you can wait for an hour after ordering. Food eventually arrived barely warm. Very poor

It's value, I get it, but there is no excuse for shoddy. The 'smothered' platter is anything but, a dribble of hardened plastic cheese doesn't really smother anything. Hard pretty much also describes the gammon that came with it. Burnt to a rubber crisp. Welcome was fine but the rest of the service was questionable. Only gets 2 stars as the kids said theirs was ok! I was asked if I had a loyalty card but to be honest any loyal customers deserve a medal not a free meal.

The onion ring was burnt, incredibly hard. Mash was hard, and strange taste. Service was good. Wouldn't go again.

Table service is provided here, which is a bonus. Lovely staff, good food, pleasant atmosphere. Great value offers between 12 and 6.

Had the cauli bites and fish pie, for me chilli sauce with cauli was far too hot, but had some mayo instead, fish pie very tasty, good meeting place just off the main road

Went in for a meal Sunday thought it would be somewhere nice to eat but I was wrong I had the steak pie don't like chips with a meal so I had the mash big mistake instant mash .... pie wasnt too bad apart from it seemed to have been reheated many times if I hadn't paid before hand I wouldn't have paid the bill will never go there again watch out for the pub chain

Stopped off by chance. Picked up essentials at Next and popped in the lunch. Staff helpful. Busy. Standard pub food, nothing fancy but useful stop off point.

Was meeting up with family while on holiday in Cornwall and found this pub which was half way meet. Booking on Sunday lunchtime for 10 was quick and easy. Pub was busy but staff were serving quickly. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were shown to our table and a few minutes later a server took our orders. We had carvery, pies, vegan. All was cooked well, tasted great and served in good time. We found it all excellent value for money. Pub had a nice relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely return in the future if down this way. Thank you for a lovely afternoon

We are holiday in Cornwall and saw this place . My wide ordered the curry , when it came , it looked like soup 😩. We complained and they made another. It was slightly better but nothing special. I had sirloin steak which was ok, again nothing special. You get better food at Wetherspoons which is cheaper too.

Customer service was fantastic and so was food and cleanliness of the whole place.

Food is always nice here and good value and even better you can collect loyalty points to spend here. The fish and chips is pretty big in size and really tasty. The staff are always polite and Robbie the manager is especially helpful. He is always quick to assist. Such a friendly guy but also very professional. Look forward to our next visit !

We specifically said no bananas with dessert, finally after a long wait, dessert comes and on the plate after telling them numerous times there's bananas. Other than that other dessert was good but only reason this review is 3 stars is the fact that there could've been an allergic reaction at our table.

Half of the menu was not available as there was no beef or ribs. when our food arrived there was very small portions and about a third of my gammon was fat. Mine and my family’s dinners turned cold very quickly and my younger cousins food was quoted as ‘disgusting’. I would not recommend this place as there are much better pubs around this area. Also, service was poor as it took 3 attempts to get our drink order correct.

Quite possibly the worst pub food I have ever had in my entire life. After we waited 10 minutes to be seated (we had booked a table) we started off with our drinks order being wrong 3 times, and that was after we had been told there was no burgers, no ribs and more, leaving very few choices. We then waited about 20 minutes for our food order to even be taken, and we had to ask for this to be done ourselves. My Coke was so syrupy it was undrinkable, I asked for ice it came with none, it also was normal Coke when I asked for Zero. I ordered the ‘smothered chicken’ which was awful - the toughest, thinnest bit of chicken I have ever eaten, burnt and like eating a leather boot. The bacon was completely burnt and was two almost laughably small pieces, and the cheese was a disappointingly small amount. The chips were not in the slightest warm on any of our plates and were bland and soft. The atmosphere was loud, surrounded by screaming kids and our tables were two inconveniently pushed together. The one positive of the place was our lovely waitress, who was completely apologetic and sorted out every problem we had quickly. I didn’t get her name but she was the one thing that made our visit not a complete disaster. Overall, definitely don’t recommend going here, it needs a lot of changes and with the amount of amazing, locally run pubs with authentic local delicious food in Cornwall, there is so many better options.

Popped in for lunch today as we knew from visiting other similar chains the meals would be good value in comparison to the M&S cafe (also on offer in the vicinity). The children’s meals were £4.99 each or 3 courses for £5.99 great value and good portions, my girls loved the pancakes they got for pudding. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. Food was served quickly and was all cooked really well. My mum and aunt had two meals for £10.99 - fish and chips - and these were great portions. I had the cheese burger topped fries which I was pleasantly surprised with, very tasty! Overall great value £36 for food, and drinks for 3 adults and 2 children. Visited around midday and we were glad as it soon got busier and we could see why, we’ll definitely be back.

I've never had a bad meal here, probably the best Carvery I've had. I had a steak this time and it came as requested, so lush. Seriously recommended to everyone

Not giving it a bad score. As this is the second time here was really nice yet again! This time was a little bit different, the food was really nice, got a triple stack burger (waitress recommend) really nice burger was nice had a nice and sightly crispy edges. Chip as expected: Plain chips (but have option's to upgrade them Rib n chicken combo: Really nice soft tender ribs a nice smoke bbq sauce, grilled chicken okay was bitbdry but the bbq sauce sorted it out Worst part of the dinner: I tried tucking my chair in more and there was a very sharp nail that was sticking out and quite badly stabbed and ripped open the top of my finger, my wife then trys to find it and slices her finger open slightly, Waitress went and got a plaster but that was it, thought something would of been done.. (even just a little % off the bill or something as a (sorry) because if someone tried to tuck there chair in and was on some certain tablets I won't stop So yeah everything else if okay BUT be careful on chairs.!! Don't look like much but the depth of the cut was more then enough. It only now stopped bleeding (was quite heavy to beginwith but slowly was stopping) and its been about about hour n half

Lovely service, staff were very friendly. They all seem to work very well as a team. We came to this venue as our local one in St Austell is shocking. Robbie the manager went above and beyond as we were celebrating our daughters 16th birthday.

Nice night out, no problems. Updated Dec 22. visited for a meal. Unfortunately the meal was pretty poor this time. I had the festive roast dinner. It was very dry, overcooked, and generally poor quality. The staff were great, just a shame the meal wasn't up to scratch this time. Food is normally great, and I spotted my meal on the menu for the next visit. I'll def be back as the food is normally good , just unlucky this time. Still recommended. --------------- Feb 24 been a couple times this year already. carvery this sunday. 5pm almost all gone. don't know where the chef went, but he was gone a long time, and the queue was pretty much back to the door when he returned. food was really nice this time, had the beef, none left for the dog! standard carvery £11.95 each. old man had an email which was also 33% off so he was well happy.

Really not impressed at all. Waited over 30min to be served cold rubber chicken. Overcooked steak. Cold chips and beans. My partner didn't receive the correct food and again was cold and rubbery. I would understand if they were busy but it wasn't. Not the first time we've had this experience and as always with a server who doesn't care. Sadly last time. Won't be returning.

My partner & I had Christmas day lunch here at a cost of £112.00. On leaving, we were shocked to be asked for £2.95 for a coca cola. The drinks included with the meal were either prosecco or bucks fizz, both containing alcohol. As my partner is tee total, he assumed he could swap his alcoholic drink for a soft drink, as it stated on the booking terms and conditions. We asked the waitress why he had been charged £2.95 and she informed us that the alcoholic drink could only be swapped for an orange juice! Nowhere on the terms & conditions does it state this. We begrudgingly paid the money and left, but we will never step foot in this establishment again.

So we had decided that this year as it was just the two of us, we would go out, we come here all the time not only a very lovely pub, but handy when u want to go across to the shops, we arrived for a 12 booking around 11.45 the car park was ok but the top car park gets more busy then the little one, we had a lovely table for 4 so more room as there was only two of us, we had the prawns, soup for starters, then turkey and after 8 sundee, the food came out hot, the turkey was a carvey which was nice, pick what you want, we did have c.cheese sides but it was very big so couldnt eat it all, our waitress i believe was called Laura we were on table 33, she couldnt have done any more,

Always busy and a very small car park for such a busy place. Food is generally Ok and service is as quick as you'd expect. We hadn't booked and although they were full they shuffled things around so we could get in.

We meet and eat regularly at the Penhale Round. We are always greeted by friendly smiling staff which is normally Sue. She is the glue that holds the place together. Nothing is ever a problem and no matter how busy it is (normally very) she always has everything under control. Varied menus, normally a deal not to be missed is. Hats off to you Sue keep up the great work 🙌🏻
