Lovely little place for lunch. Really nice cosy, homely feel, you’re made to feel very welcome. Lunch was great and all the pastries look incredible as well.

Last year we frequented this establishment quite a lot and enjoyed all day breakfast at lunchtime. We were really disappointed last week to find that they only do sandwiches or soup at lunch now. The hot lunch we hoped for was no longer available. In future we will need to find somewhere else for a hot lunch.

Came for nice cup of coffee, but spoiled with owner shouting at his staff and talking very loudly about himself shame.

The bacon baps come with a couple of pieces of very fatty bacon (not rendered) & only butter/marg/spread on one side of the roll. £4.25!!!!! Rip off.

Spotted this cafe on our way back to the car park. Lovely coffee and delicious brownies. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great spot opposite the BRI - but apart from that the staff are lovely, fantastic food..especially the cinnamon buns and limoncello cake (can't remember all the ingredients but it was really delicious!) Had the steak baguette and felafal and hummus roll for lunch before our hospital appointment, returned for cakes after it! Thank you for being so friendly and cheerful to brighten up a hospital trip!

This is the second time in a month where I have been served a poor breakfast. Last time over microwaved mushrooms that had dried out. Today burnt dried bacon ( I didn’t ask for crispy). Dehydrated sausage. Mushy hash browns. My suspicion is this dish has been over microwaved. Warm bread which was supposed to be toast. You can’t charge £11 for breakfast and fail at every level. I frequently come here over the last 10 years and generally an enjoyable experience. But no brekkie for me going forward.

Popped in on the way back from a hospital appointment and ordered two cinnamon buns. £6.60 came up on the card machine display however I was too embarrassed to say 'no thank you'. It didn't help that none of the cakes or pastries had prices in front of them. £3.30 for what is essentially a Chelsea bun (without the currants & sultanas) with cinnamon frosting on top. Yes they tasted nice but were way, way overpriced.

I've eaten here before and enjoyed the soup and the outdoor seating area downstairs. I was tired and hungry so popped in for a drink and something to eat. I paid by phone and only afterwards realised I'd paid £8.80 for a cup of tea and an egg roll to eat in. The egg roll was £6.50... and going dry and turning stale at 3.30pm. If I hadn't been so hungry and near the end of their day (closes 4pm), I'd have sent it back. When I queried the bill on leaving I was told it cost that much because I could have had salad with it.

I always think you can judge a independent coffee shop by the number of locals that are in there and every time I visit staff from the hospital are inside and grabbing coffee or lunch and it is never empty! This has become a regular place to grab breakfast or lunch for us as it is across the road from where my little boy has been in hospital for the past 3 weeks. Much better than going to M and S or the coffee shops in the hospital. Having sampled quite a few of the panini, baguettes, and cakes I can honestly say we have never been disappointed. You can choose to take out or eat in which is ideal for us. As well as having a core range to select from they do have different things each day which makes it more interesting if you pop in regularly. Having said this my wife’s favourite is the goats cheese and red pepper panini and either the chocolate brownie, salted caramel brownie or the rocky road although she has just said the billionaire shortbread is good too!! I would recommend the flapjack and have enjoyed a variety of baguettes and panini. The full English breakfast has to be my favourite though and the baps are good too! On the face of it the prices may seem slightly high however compared with a lunch from M and S or Costa it is worth paying a few pence more. The staff are so friendly and helpful too. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Took a stroll over to penfolds cafe from the Bristol childrens hospital today 30/5/2022 around 9am as wanted something fresh instead of Costa coffe packet sandwiches we’ve been here 3 weeks …… my partner and I wanted to sit and have breakfast together not much to ask ! I’d finished my very avarage full English breakfast tea & orange Juice before her poached eggs and toast came out ! To then be told the grill is playing up so they’ve done her fried ! Which she doesn’t like ! So settled for scrambled 3 mouthfuls and she was not happy ……… and off we went wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t go back

Penfolds is one of my 2 go to places for food and coffee when visiting the Bristol Children's Hospital. Coffee is a local brand and cakes and pastries and great. Highly recommended.

Delicious pastries and coffee. The cafe offers a discount to patients and families with hospital wristbands - a really lovely touch.

Popped in for a snack lunch with my daughter. Really great choice of fresh, tasty, reasonably priced food. Staff were really helpful. Highly recommended and will definitely return on our next visit to Bristol.

Picked up a birthday breakfast for my husband - bacon rolls, cappuccino, coconut milk decaf mocha. All delicious and the lady who served me was super friendly too :)

Just been in Penfolds kitchen in Bristol Fabulous !! Lovely tasty homemade food ( sandwich and a cake) can’t fault it People very friendly AND not wasting loads of cardboard and plastic by serving everything on real plates and cups Oh one last thing SUPERSIZE cup of tea.... I wish everyone would use a real good size mug for drinks

Penfold's is a delightful place to visit for great coffee and it offers an excellent range of tasty and unusual fillings for panins, ciabatta and wraps. The cakes on offer will be difficult to resist. It is small, quirky and has limited seating inside but there is a garden. Well worth a visit and an excellent alternative to the mass produced and rather bland fillings on offer in one of the 'chain' establishments. It is possible to purchase the coffee. Lovely friendly staff.

Visitamos Penfolds regularmente, ya que está justo enfrente de Bristol Childrens y Bristol Royal Infirmary. Siempre está lleno de gente que ama el café. Era un lugar bonito; Equipado de forma rústica y de moda con un ambiente realmente agradable. ¡Incluso había pasteles frescos en el mostrador listos para comer!Recogimos el tocino y volvimos al auto. Estaba esperando esto.Abrí la bolsa, salió un bap de tocino realmente agradable, el pan estaba fresco, descubrimos que era de un panadero local, así que este fue un muy buen comienzo. Visité Penfold's Kitchen hoy cuando estaba haciendo mi recorrido a pie por Banksy por la ciudad. Originalmente no planeé entrar, de hecho pasé por el lugar al principio. Pero luego regresé porque tenía ganas de tomarme una taza de café y tuve tres paradas más antes de terminar todo el recorrido.El interior del lugar me golpeó de inmediato. Si tengo que elegir una cosa que me encanta de Bristol, definitivamente son todos esos cafés hipster. El lugar es bastante pequeño, pero eso lo hace aún más cómodo y acogedor. Probablemente haya más asientos abajo pero no noté ningún signo.Llegué al mostrador y un amable y amable barista me sonrió y me preguntó qué me gustaría pedir. (Por cierto, estaba sentado justo en frente del mostrador y escuché cada saludo que recibía de este joven y sentí que conocía a cada cliente personalmente. Fue realmente muy amable.) Originalmente quería pedir simplemente blanco con leche de avena pero me dijeron que hay un pago mínimo 3. 50 si quieres pagar con tarjeta. Se compadecieron de dos personas frías y húmedas y nos dejaron 10 minutos antes de abrir a las 7 AM. Excelente desayuno, personal amable y obviamente muy popular. Después de dejar a la esposa en el Bristol Eye Hospital, paseé por las tiendas a las que regresé para almorzar. La sopa del día era una comida en sí misma y muy sabrosa. Después de haber soportado un McDonalds insípido por la noche y pasar la noche en un Premier Inn sin alma, regresé a la mañana siguiente para desayunar. ¿Mencioné que los empleados y pacientes del NHS obtienen un descuento? Si volvemos a Bristol, volvemos a Penfolds, absolutamente brillante.

we were staying at the Premier Inn, determined to avoid their breakfasts, just a short walk and we found Penfold's! Open at 8am even on a Sunday, friendly quick service and wonderful food...coffee's good too. On final visit we took away two cinnamon buns to eat on our journey home..oh boy! they are good.

Stopped here for a quick breakfast before child’s MRi. Very friendly happy staff. Ordered bacon butty and sausage butty, perfectly cooked . I’m sure we will be back.

Nos detuvimos en este lugar en ruta para obtener un bocado rápido y, a juzgar por el exterior y el interior, parece decente. Teniendo prisa, pedí un café y un bagel antes de darme cuenta de que la comida no tiene precio, lo que siempre es preocupante. Habiendo esperado demasiado para que llegara, me dijeron que eran las 7. 49 por un pequeño café y el queso tomate y bagel de pesto! Geat pequeña cafetería independiente con muchas opciones frescas y caseras para todos. Súper peculiar y excelente personal. Voy todos los días a tomar un café o un buen descanso antes de comenzar mi largo día de trabajo. siempre está ocupado pero el personal todavía está en punto! ¡Continúa con el buen trabajo!

Fui hoy aquí por recomendación de la tienda de violonchelos a unas cuantas puertas, la comida era excelente, tenía aguacate, huevos escalfados y tocino, la tostada de masa fermentada era deliciosa y estaba empapada de mantequilla y los flapjacks eran para morirse.El ambiente era agradable y el servicio era excelente.Muy recomendable si estás cerca del área de pasos de Navidad.

Cinnabon generoso y entorno íntimo. Excelente para el personal de NHS en el BRI. Un pequeño jardín funky y para sentarse en un día soleado que bloquea el ajetreo y el bullicio de la calle concurrida.

I go here most days for coffee. It’s friendly, ha a great menu and a lovely atmosphere. Their breakfasts and lunches are great, their cakes are 5* and the pricing is fair. NHS discount too! Would recommend to anyone.

Perfectly placed opposite Bristol’s main hospital, we had an hour and a half between appointments. Shuffled across the road and found an oasis of calm and brilliant food. Lots of areas yet to explore, will definitely be back for a return visit.

On our recent trip to Bristol, Penfold's Kitchen was just around the corner from our hotel, so we popped in for breakfast/brunch twice. The food, service and atmosphere is great. Thoroughly recommend if you're in the area.

Large bowls of souper soup! So big that we had them reheated as we took our time chatting! Helpful staff. Nice atmosphere. Would take friends.

Called in by chance after a visit to Bristol Hospital for a coffee. Lovely friendly place ... lovely bacon rolls. Clearly a favourite with NHS staff but recommend if you are in that part of Bristol searching for a short coffee break

All members of our party had different styles of eggs, which were all overcooked and dry, and we felt the portions were somewhat lacking. However, the staff were very friendly and it's in a convenient location for patients of the hospital.

I keep going back to Penfolds for their coffee - it's gorgeous. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They offer an NHS discount, too.

Penfold's Kitchen is a little gem of a café, opposite the Bristol Royal Infirmary, which I discovered quite by accident. I was walking back to the Bristol Eye Hospital to see how my mate was doing (He had an appointment, I was his driver). Went into the café, greeted with a warm friendly smile, & was served efficiently. The Full English breakfast was excellent, & I was so impressed with the place that I took my friend & his partner there for lunch after he had finished his appointment .5 Star Trip Advisor recommendation..

Penfold's kitchen is a lovely little cafe with great lunches and coffee. I had a Spanish tart and salad today with lots of coffee and a flapjack. There is water available for free by the cutlery so no need to buy any. Great place for breakfast too!

Convenient location for hospital trip. I thought the cappuccino could have been a little hotter and for the price Costa is likely more competitive on mug size.

Just had a really nice lunch here. The cafes opposite a massive chain coffee shop but this place has decent quality and healthy food + much better prices and friendly staff.

This is a regular haunt of those working in the hospitals, serving wonderful breakfasts from 7am with fantastic coffee, fresh pastries and some of the cakes............ Oh My. Lunch is also to be recommended - great tortillas. Simon know his customers and greets you like old friends after only a few visits. Despite its small appearance there always seems to be a table available and there is another - admittedly less fun - sitting area downstairs. There is also a pocket garden for summer. A great place to relax and recharge and feel looked after.

I visited Penfold's Kitchen after a long time and I was positively surprised. The place transformed to a very warm place to eat your food. People were very friendly and helpful. It seems they are able to adjust any food to your requirements and today they surprised me with the vegan version of one of the light dishes and it was very tasty. If you go there definitely try their homemade lemonade. What I valued the most is that they will remind you to use the discount if you are visiting the hospital or you are an employee of NHS or a student. (maybe there are some more discounts - who knows - just ask) Definitely liked the place and would fully recommend. By the way - The owner of the place - Simon and his friendly approach to the customers is probably what makes the place so good.

We needed a quick lunch today after a hospital appointment and we were greeted with such a friendly atmosphere, great coffee and a super tasty lunch. Whenever we're in the area again we will go back. We took cakes home too! Delicious thank you

If you have to choose between the 3 or 4 coffee shops in the same area, give this one a go, you won't be disappointed!This place gets better and better, the coffee is awesome, the freshly made sarnies, wraps and panini's are superb, plus the staff are all lovely! What more can you ask?! I can't wait for the warmer weather to sit back and relax in the little 'secret' garden out the back. I've been going there a while now and have got to know the owner a little, Simon... he is definitely the reason this place is so good. I can't wait to see what new sandwich ideas, cakes and new coffee's he finds this year! Oh... And he makes the best flat white going!

Went in for the first time today and was greeted by the smell of fresh cooked pastries.. These were brought out the oven and placed on a tray on a table.. They looked amazing!! The guy that served me was very polite and accommodating and the general atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Seens to be a lot of regulars which looked good as a new customer. Definitely worth a visit, thanks!
