Having read mixed reviews we weren't sure what to expect so stopped for coffee and cake rather than lunch, we were however pleasantly surprised by what we found. The coffee was hot and smooth and the selection of cakes was extensive. We opted for raspberry blonde and blueberry bakewell, both of which were excellent. Other customers were being served various lunch dishes of sandwiches and Toasties which looked great and appeared to be enjoyed. From today's evidence I would happily plan to have lunch here next time.

One of my favourite places in Bristol for a quiet walk. Popular with dog walkers but gets far less traffic than nearby Blaise Castle and unlike there the parking is free. Many of the paths are uneven and muddy so good walking shoes/boots are a good idea. There is a nice little coffee shop at the side of the house (I've been to a few and it is stunning). Events are held in the house but it's not generally open to the public.

The building was built between 1712 and 1719, and was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh for the lawyer and politician Edward Southwell on the site of an earlier Tudor house. It was then remodelled in 1763–1768 by Robert Mylne and again between 1845 and 1850 by Thomas Hopper. The Kings Weston estate possesses one of the largest collections of buildings designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in the UK. Whilst the house and the majority of the estate's buildings are still standing, others have been demolished or have been heavily altered. Bristol is the only UK city outside London that possess buildings designed by Vanbrugh. A significant architectural feature is the grouping of all the chimneys into a massive arcade. There is no admission charge for the grounds of the Estate. The grounds are open at all times. Kings Weston House is not open to the public, except for special events.(see web-site).

Slight concern as though not priced, many selections of cakes varying in size and I assume price. Coffee arrived, waitress had no idea which was the latte or dirty chai latte (they both looked the same). Coffee was warm rather than hot. On the way out decided to purchase two cold drinks. Coke for my friend and a bottle of smoothie that was in the fridge. Couldn’t sell the smoothie as all were out of date! There needs to be a big shake up with staff for me to go there again

Nice to return to great destination, lovely refurbished cafe, but not so great to be charged extra for skimmed milk without being advised. I queried the price at point of debit card scan with 2 employees who said that skimmed milk is classed as an alternative milk. I pointed out that alternative milk is oat, soya, etc.., but the staff shrugged. I feel like I have been taken for a mug being charged extra for skimmed milk, especially as skimmed milk retails the same as whole and semi-skimmed. It leaves a sour taste if you get my meaning. I know it is only 10p extra, and I like to support small businesses, but it's the whole handling of the matter that disappoints. I wish them well though and am sure that not many customers will even notice. I did have a very good flat white coffee, however.

On a warm clear day it is bliss to sit on the terrace enjoying some food and looking out across the Severn to Wales. Sadly the cafe is closed pending refurbishment and seems to be taking a lot longer than expected to reopen. There are toilets outside in a portacabin at the moment. The grounds are owned and managed by the council, and there's a volunteer workforce who do bits of management (King's Weston Action Group), but this is a large estate managed by a city council so don't expect the kind of neatness or attention to detail you'd see if it was privately owned. You can walk from here to Blaise estate, and on from there to the River Severn via the route of the river Trym.

I titled my review as hidden gem because first I have never heard of it before although my two children went to Bristol university and second because the turn to it was very hidden that can easily be missed as it wasn’t well sign posted. My husband and I visited this house today on a glorious sunny day in June as our son’s wedding will take place there next week. We drove from Newport just 25 minutes drive. We wanted to navigate the area before the big day but we were disappointed as the house itself was closed, they open Monday to Friday only, while the park and the cafe are open to public all week. There’s ample parking which is free. The ground is stunningly green and gigantic. Magnificent view looking over Bristol Channel. The park was quite busy with families and dogs. Lots of people brought their picnic. The cafe is ok, smell inside but nice big terrace with beautiful view in the sun. I brought a big Earl Grey tea pot with two pieces of cake, lemon and Biscoff. The menu had breakfast and toasties and sandwiches. We enjoyed the walk . I would definitely go back. I fully recommend you visit it and try the cafe.

I have been trying to make enquiries about the use and availability of the house all week. To date I have made 35+ calls and contacted them via email and Instagram. I received one Email from their wedding co-ordinator saying she would respond in a week as she was isolating (Not ill, isolating) meaning she COULD work but chose not to. You dont want an important event held here as they clearly can't even manage an email or their own SM accounts. Shocking level of incompetence.

I visited the cafe this morning as it is my birthday and wanted to spend time with my family What I witnessed occurring is quite frankly disgusting, poor practise and unprofessional.A full on team meeting going on while customers came in, discussions going on about profit and mark ups. I do not think this is professional, haven't you got an office out the back?Chairs were sat on top of the tables, which were dragged off and the tables not wiped down or cleaned. Staff assistant fussed over several muddy dogs that came in, fed them scraps and continued to 'pet' the dogs fur. She then proceeded to serve customers food and drink without washing her hands. Whilst we were eating our breakfast a young girl decided to clean the glass cake cabinet. She opened the door sprayed chemicals and wiped the glass without taking out the cakes, the chemical spray and the damp dirty clothes contaminated the entire contents of the cabinet. The same cloth got used on trays, cups then the floor, where some crumbs had fallen. This cloth was not changed, washed or thrown out. After serving a few more customers and petting more muddy dogs this cloth was used on the bottle fridge, again spraying without taking its contents out. No one washed their hands Utterly unacceptable. We left dreading to think what it was like out the back, away from customers. It used to be a nice little clean cafe

As part of the Bristol Open Doors weekend I decided to revisit the House. When I visited some years ago it was occupied by the police who knocked the upper floor about to take their equipment. This time it was an excellent guided tour of the house and its history. It is difficult to summarise this as it has gone through several stages including being a hospital during ww1,a school, a college and the police training school , before eventually being used as a conference and a wedding venue. In its own grounds it must be excellent for a wedding. It is also a Grade 1 listed building. It seems a pity that the majority of the reviews only remark on the catering (which we didn't sample. We have been visiting Kings Weston House for several years now and walking our dog around the beautiful grounds. We love the house and grounds and usually pop into the cafe for a coffee and cake. However, over the last few years the standard of service here has dramatically changed. I'm not sure if any employees in the cafe have received any training, specially in customer service. Having purchased a muffin with my coffee today, the muffin was literally thrown on the counter by the lad serving, and I had to ask for a plate and knife for it. I found his attitude rather rude and unhelpful. There was no clean cutlery available. I am usually provided with my coffee and cake without a tray, and when I request one, it's usually dirty. The general service is very slow. When requesting ice with a cold drink, I am told that the ice is only for iced coffee, even though I am still paying for a drink, albeit a cold one! There is never a clean table on the terrace, and staff are very slow at clearing these. Generally there is a very unclean feel to the cafe. The cakes which are sold are very 'hit and miss'. More often then not they taste a little bit beyond their sell by date! I would think twice about ordering any other food as the service seems so poor. Cheerful staff would be quite nice! It's such a shame, as this could be such an amazing cafe - it just seems so badly managed!

Very good value for money, the sandwiches were huge and we almost could have shared one between us! The bistro is nice, it is dark owing to the location within the building, but I can imagine it might be good as an evening venue if it is dark outside anyway, as there isn’t really any natural light coming in. The cafe area is brighter and they allow dogs in. Lots of seating outside for good weather.

How can Kings Weston house possibly have the nerve to falsely advertise an event on their own website and on social media that was clearly no longer taking place. We arrived for a family outing this morning, followed the signs to the house and entered to be told we could not look around. No notice on the door to say that we were not allowed in. Asked about the Easter Egg trail, was guided to the cafe. I showed them my mobile phone that showed that the Easter Egg trail was taking place. Was told we could do the trail but they had no maps and no eggs left. I asked if the children could have a cake or other chocolate afterwards and was told quite clearly no this could not happen. Kings Weston House could easily have printed off extra copies of the trail and knowing they were running out of eggs could have at least stocked up on some cream eggs to keep going for the advertised event. It was very disappointing for the children the youngest of whom was only 4 years old. Needless to say I have no intention of visiting this place again.

Nine of us, family and friends, went to The Bistro at Kingsweston House yesterday, for brunch. The Bistro is situated in the basement of the house, in a large space, beautifully decorated and furnished, with a most impressive vaulted ceiling.

We spent the day at Bristol Hi Fi Show and had booked an evening meal at Kings Weston House a few days earlier. It was KWH’s very first Tapas Evening and a great experience - basically a pop-up restaurant. We arrived at the palatial building just before 7pm...good parking but lack of signage for anyone who didn’t know exactly where they were going. We eventually found the entrance to the Cafe and Bistro and wandered through, eventually finding the right room. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel ever so welcome. We opted for the non-alcoholic version of the meal but, over two and a half hours, watched (and heard) fellow diners work their way through five different Spanish wines and one liquer, plus a glass of Cava on arrival. We paid £26 pp; the alcoholic version cost considerably more. This gave us a six course tasting menu, a mixture of seafood, salad, vegetables, slow cooked meat and, finally, an almond tart with vanilla cream. Service was excellent but maybe this is explained by the two of us being the only people in the room (excl. staff) still able to string more than two words together an hour after sitting down! Fortunately, the atmosphere tickled us rather than annoyed us. We would gladly return for the next in this series of culinary evenings...apparently a Thai meal. I really think the only improvements would have been a) like the Spanish, please serve bread with every course and b) serving three prawns when there is quite clearly two people on the table would, for some couples, mean instant war....multiples of two, please!! c) Better signage for those who have never been to KWH before would be appreciated.

Went for a dog walk with a friend while visiting her in Bristol. Was amazed when she said we could get breakfast/lunch/cuppa/cake in the cafe here, where all dogs are welcomed. The food was delicious, the coffee good, and asking for a couple of spare sausages for the dogs, was met with "of course". What joy, to be able to eat in the company of our dogs, normally we have to find a dog friendly pub or have sandwiches in the car. Highly recommend.

Really good beers some of them their own brews. Good atmosphere, can be very busy on a Saturday night but staff are very good. Can't see how this scores only 4.1 when far inferior places have scored m
