Jolly Hog Pig Sty in Bristol, City of

Went for breakfast on Saturday morning during our stay in Bristol when we couldn’t get in elsewhere and we were glad in the end! The breakfast we had was really good and I would definitely go there again if we were ever in the area to try the main menu too.

The food wasn't bad but was very underwhelming. I had the rack ribs which turned out to be 2 ribs with a layer of meat on top. The meat around the ribs was nice and juicy. The meat on top was dry. My partner had the whole hog bap which was a roasted / deep fried slice of belly in a bun with coleslaw. On both the meat was cooked nice and crispy but massively under seasoned and a bit dry. The coleslaw wasn't bad but not a great accompaniment. Service was friendly but slow! Took them ages to take our orders. Then about 15 mins to deliver 2 cans of beer, 30+ mins for food. And then at the end when we asked for the bill... And it hadn't come within ~15mins we went up and paid. 10% service charge automatically applied... Not awful, but underwhelming

Stopped by today (1/4/25) for some lunch, we were looked after by Josie the manager who was amazing! Super friendly, chatty and attentive! Could see she was on-top of everything while giving a great service. Food was excellent too, and they did blue light discount which is another plus and very grateful for! If you’re in the area, would 100% recommend popping in, they have a few tables inside but outside is also undercover and in a lovely location!

As a wing lover, the buffalo pig wings are one of the best wings of any kind I’ve ever had, great specials and lovely service

Came here the morning after a stag do, and the food was perfect! Had a little wait as we were a bigger group, but the staff were amazing!

Terrible experience but 5 stars because of how much the staff cared about my feedback. Was seriously understaffed when we visited. There were 2 people waiting on inside and outside service, takeaway orders, and an outside bar. We visited with 3 adults and 1 child. There were no tables inside so we sat outside although it was pretty chilly. We were not told they were busy and that it would be a long wait. We weren’t given menus. I ended up going inside and getting them myself. I went back for a kids menu after seeing the main menu saying to ask and had to take a photo of the chalk board. We ordered drinks and the waiter said he’d bring us some tap water. The tap water never came. We ordered food. We waited so long that we had finished our drinks and moved to another table under the heaters. By this point it wasn’t very busy at the restaurant but the wait went on and on as they kept bringing takeaway orders to people turning up. Eventually we were offered free drinks because we had been waiting patiently for so long. The cutlery came in a heap and we were told a couple of times it wouldn’t be long. But it was. The food arrived. The burgers were good but the pork wings were poor. Thinly cut pork belly and strips of pork fat that weren’t crispy, just limp and chewy. The fat looked like French fries. Not crackling. Certainly nothing like some of the photos on here! At no point did anyone ask if the food was ok or we wanted anything else. After a good while I walked in to ask for the bill and was told it would be out shortly after the other server was finished with it. He went back in and obviously wasn’t told because he didn’t come out for us. By this point the person I’d asked for the bill was serving drinks at the outside bar to a large queue of people. When she’d finished serving everyone (a good while later) she asked the man to get our bill. Surprise, surprise we’d been charged for the “free drinks”, and also a service charge. By this point I had absolutely had enough. It was a cascade of super poor service. No menus, no table water, huge food delay, free drinks offered but being charged, huge delay getting bill, all whilst we were getting really cold. I was very fed up and let the staff know. Honestly, I can’t recall ever having this poor a service at such a relatively small restaurant. The outside bar and takeaway orders, plus inside and outside service was way too much for 2 people. But come on. A child sitting outside in the cold for that long and that litany of basic errors… Still, the last server looked absolutely mortified and didn’t charge us. She 100% cared and I felt awful because it was clear she was trying her best. It’s also clear that it requires more than 2 staff to wait on a Saturday. Please do not put your staff through this over the summer!!

Pork wings are very good, the bbq is 10/10 sweet, smokey and umami goodness. Buffalo is wel spiced but needs a touch more butter/creamness. Would defo order again, once I ordered and they hooked me up with free crackling in the box and it was one of the best days of my life.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Valentine’s dinner at the Jolly Hog Pigsty. Thanks to the excellent and jovial service of the host. She was kind, attentive, and funny! We had the all day breakfast, pulled pork / bbq ribs meal, and their peach mimosas which were all scrumptious and flavourful. You can tell the food was of a high quality and was made with fresh ingredients. Would totally go back again.

I was with a group of French friends yesterday and we called in to this place for a local cider and coffee. The waiter was extremely nice and helpful and then a lady also came and told us more about their house cider. I wish I had got the lads name that served us because we had left the bar and some way away he managed to find me and bring me a bag we had left there What great service I can’t wait to come back

Bacon roll purchased at the Ashton Gate match day outlet was virtually inedible. Not very warm dry over cooked bacon in a dry tasteless roll. Won't waste my money again.

Cosy atmosphere with super friendly staff, the food was absolutely stunning would highly recommend a visit I came for my birthday and was not disappointed we will be returning

Incredible food and amazing service from super friendly staff who clearly care about what they do and the food they produce. There was a hiccup with the booking system due to the venue being booked for a private function but this hasn’t affected our rating simply because the team made every effort to fit us in and we were looked after incredibly well. Had a good chat with the new manager too and her and her staff were great, and produced lovely food for us. Would highly recommend and would definitely visit again!

Pigsty is an absolute delight, the quality, flavour and concepts never disappoint. We love the Whole Hog, Smokey Dog and BBQ pork belly bites 🔥 and their seasonal specials are always so elaborate and delicious too! The whole team are so lovely when we've spoken to them, we usually order online and call to make a few small edits (removing sauces/slaw) and they're always so patient and accommodating. It's a great experience every time, and making some little tweaks to dishes means we get to enjoy every single bite! 🥰 We love you Pigsty!! 🐷

Service, food, atmosphere is spot on, the coffee is on par with Square Mile (Extrait coffee) - amazing sausages, the bacon was thick af, spicy beans is a new one for me, such good value and the lady serving is top notch! £20 for full fry up plus drinks, you get what you pay for and it’s worth paying. Will be back! So impressed x

Been here in the past and has been 5 stars however has unfortunately really gone downhill. For some reason if you go at lunch only the brunch menu is available not the main menu and it has a far worse selection of food. When ordering the sausage roll was burnt and chips were cold and we raised this the server denied it which is not the service I expect or have experienced in my previous visits.

Freshly cooked tasty food - gets busy quickly on a Saturday morning.

We’ve walked by this place for years and always wanted to try it. The breakfast was great! We ordered the big breakfast tray to share between two people and it was so good! The bacon was tasty, but our favorite was the hashbrown.

We went for a short weekend walk and breakfast along the waterfront and were really impressed by the breakfast and the staff. It was very tasty, had good portion sizes and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We loved it and are thinking of making it a regular weekend activity.

Lets start with the food. It's not bad, nothing that's going to blow you away - compared to the likes of squeezed it's a disappointing burger and it's overpriced. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing memorable. The service is the main issue. We got there and there were no other customers. Bare in mind Pigsty is amongst many other eateries in a big outdoor food area. My wife bought a pint of cider from the next door to Pigsty. I was going to buy a pint of the cider in pigsty. Along with burgers and chips for us both you were looking at £50 quid. As we went to order the girl said to us "Sorry you cant bring that drink in here. All we can do is serve you takeaway". So we've bought 1 drink from a their nextdoor neighbour - literally 2 feet away, and we were going to buy 1 drink from them as well as spending 45 quid on food - and they told us we couldn't eat their food at one of their tables when there were literally no other customers. So we ended up eating our food sat on the pavement down by the edge of the dock. The whole experience sucked. Won't be going back and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone - go to Squeezed you'll get a far better burger and the staff don't treat you like dirt.

Food was lovely but very small for what we were charged! Service was…..poor and the final straw was a 12.5% service charge which NO ONE MENTIONED. Would not recommend unfortunately.

Although the food was tasty, my boyfriend and I were shocked at the portion sizes considering the price, the hot dog was absolutely tiny! Service was also rather slow, took about half an hour for us to receive our drinks despite the restaurant being not very busy. When we tried to pay we were given the wrong receipt and were almost over charged. Not a great experience.

The Pig wings was the best bacon I had in my life. Tender, juicy, crispy but not hard. A bit sweet and a bit hot. Just the best combo. Buffalo dirty fries with bacon, spring onion: good portion, crunchy and tasty.

Stopped off here for something to eat after reading the A board out front. Decided on the Breakfast Stack. Sat down, got told there was no black pudding available but could trade for something else, asked if I could have another sausage patty and got told I couldn't trade for that but could do an extra bit of bacon, fair enough, so that's what I ordered. Food came out, presented nicely and it was OK. More annoyingly though and I didn't realise it at the time, I didn't even get "The Jolly Hog Proper Porky Patty" sausage patty, I just got 1 sausage cut down the middle. If you haven't got the ingredients, take the item off the menu surely.

My family and I came to the jolly hog and all ate the whole hug burger. So delicious and would definitely recommend. We sat outside with the dog and it was a great atmosphere and had lovely staff x

Really rude and unwelcoming. I tried for 20 minutes to politely get the attention of the waiter. He was busy but not that busy. It’s hard not to take it personally at this point. Seemed like he thought he was too cool for his customers

Walked 25 minutes across Bristol as I was staying the night and had food from there before...got there at 8:45pm to be told they were closing early!!!...not cool...if your actual closing time is earlier than advertised, please update your website to reflect this...

Out of this world Scottish eggs!!! Beer and cider were also delicious! Super friendly and helpful staff. Central location.

Good food and very good service

I have read the reviews, so I came to check it out, and surprisingly it was the best burger I had in the UK. As simple as that. I eat burgers a lot, this one was the greatest as far as I can remember

Company where staff are treated as money makers with no opinions or personal life. Poor management that creates a toxic work environment, where everyone lacks motivation. Employees are always short staffed, exhausted and overloaded. Money driven company where everyone feels unhappy. Quick made food, covered in rapeseed oil and tons of mayonnaise. Same menu for ages.

Me and my partner haven't tasted food that good in ages. We were surprised it wasn’t busier. This tucked away restaurant not only had fantastic food, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. Highly recommend.

Came here for a birthday meal for my partner and OH MY GOD. If you like pork, like at all, you absolutely have to eat here. Literally the best pork I've tasted in my life in almost all forms it can take. And they made me a very nice Bloody Mary as well (whimsically called "Hair of the Hog" topped with a slice of crispy bacon, of course). The *only* disappointing thing was that they didn't have the scotch eggs on the Pig Board available. But other than that 5 stars in every respect. Josh has only been working there 2 days but he's established himself well and is an excellent front of house for the place. Thoroughly recommend!

Been to Pigsty a few times and my previous experiences were 5/5 so I was excited to go for breakfast as had only been for dinner. Got the breakfast board, it was pretty tasty, sausages and seasoned hashbrowns being our favourite part, tomato was a bit watery. However the service was quite bad, the person serving us took our order then we were waiting quite a while for our drinks (one of which we could see he had made), he then came over and asks if we wanted a receipt, so I told him we had just ordered with him and were waiting for our drinks. Then our sauce was forgotten and when asked for took at least 5 minutes to get, despite it not being busy. He seemed very tired and unenthusiastic and definitely dampened the mood on the meal. This experience was a 3/5 but I’ve put 4/5 as my other experiences in the past have been better and I hope this is just a one off.

Unbelievable food, 100% recommend the pig wings, really good service. A must visit when you are in Bristol

Went recently with a group of food connoisseurs. (old guys the know how to eat) and it was fantastic. Food was class, service was great. They humoured us way longer than we deserved. Such a good set up👌

Banging scotch eggs with an insane piccalilli

Great food (particularly the breakfast stack and the loaded hot dog) and the best coffee in the area. Myself and my dog Arthur enjoy the walk around the docks before our Pigsty treat. Nice staff are always really smiley, friendly and welcoming to us both! We'll be back again!

Brilliant breakfast, had the fry up bun and hubby the breakfast muffin. Soooo tasty. Love the black treacle bacon. And tea was in the mug. Molly was a legend short staffed at the beginning of the day but smiled throughout and smashed it out of the park. Will definitely come back again

Stopped here for brunch, grabbed a takeaway. I had the loaded hash browns, partner had the normal hash browns. The hashbrowns were seasoned to perfection, the pigs and blankets had a smokey taste to them and the homemade nduja beans were incredible! Definitely check these out whilst visiting Wapping Wharf!

The food was a mix of good, average and poor items. We loved the breakfast ''hot dog'' style but not so much the muffins with egg and bacon. The muffins were dry and tasteless, the bacon though really good. The scotch egg let us down due to the runny egg whites... it takes some skill to have a perfect boiled egg, I appreciate that, but if I can't have one, I'd rather have it hard boiled. The chips were extraordinary, great job done here! The service is very professional and fast and the prices reasonable. Overall I might visit them again.

Top notch brunch, and I have to commend Millie on the amazing service. Despite being the only person working front of house, she was bang on it throughout. Whatever she's being paid, it isn't enough.

Nice little restaurant specialized in decent british pork meat. We had scotch egg, crispy pork belly bites, burger, hot dog, slaw and fries and everything was really really good. The burger patty was a slice of crispy pork belly, so definitely something else. Hot dog was loaded with sausage and pulled pork.

Very pricey for such a small business Food was excellent but there was too much barbecue sauce on the pig wings . House fries also had too much seasoning

Cute venue, friendly service, yummy food. Meat was great quality and flavourful, the scotch egg was perfect. For the price, it would be great for the brunch main dishes to include a couple hashbrowns on the side. Likewise, with the Breakfast Pig Board, it could have included a choice of a side dip to add value. It was a little expensive for a breakfast. The service was good, and venue was in a great location. Only critique of the experience was the very hard, built in benches to sit on making it difficult to get in and out of the table. It needs a bespoke made seat cushion, not small scatter cushions. Probably wouldn't sit in the venue again, but I would order the food for delivery.

Excellent brunch option at Bristol harbourside! I stopped in here as a solo diner on a Saturday morning, it was reasonably busy but had no issues getting a table. The waitress who seated and served me was incredibly welcoming with a really upbeat attitude and was very attentive throughout. I ordered the breakfast muffin and reading the description I had very high hopes. It exceeded all expectations. It was simply exceptional. Delicious bacon, lovely melted cheese, a succulent sausage patty and topped off with a perfectly runny egg on a soft toasted bun. You couldn't ask for me. 5/5 will be going back again soon.

The pork burger is extremely delicious. Great combination with the fries. Crispy outside and juicy inside. The fried pork is exceptional. Definitely one of the best pork burger in the country. Worth to try. Friendly staff.

Mixed review here. Staff were lovely. Very small amount of indoor and outdoor seating but everything is also available to take away and walk down the river to eat. We had the crackling and apple sauce. Apple sauce was 10/10. The crackling however was inedible. Potion was large but each chunk was too big to fit in your mouth but also too hard to bite. So you ended up awkwardly sucking on large chunks like an ice lolly! Now I know crackling is salty…. But the loose salt on the outside was unbearable. Everything else seemed lovely but maybe stay away from the crackling!

Came here for brunch, had the all day dog and the jolly muffin. The streaky bacon on the dog was a bit grim, way overcooked, but the treacle bacon on the muffin was great. Nice coffee, reasonably priced and great service - shout out to our waitress for all the recommendations in Bristol!

Excellent little spot and the best scotch eggs I've ever had! Just make sure to get there before they sell out. The service is fantastic, and it's a nice atmosphere. The only downside is the price; walking out of there for under £50 for a basic dinner for two is unlikely.

Turned up at 3 yesterday (7th oct) to find they closed from 3-4pm (ok my fault as it was advertised) hung around for an hour until 4pm. Walked in and was told they ‘decided’ to give themselves an extra hour and wasn’t opening until 5 because they were busy in the earlier shift. I wish I could give myself time off when I’m busy in work. Left very disappointed….and hangry

Lovely little restaurant just near the Bristol harbour. We shared the big platter between the three of us and there was plenty of food of which every piece was delicious with the known jolly hog quality. They also serve the best BBQ sauce I ever had! The service was lovely and quick. Would always recommend and come back when we're in the area.

We had the 'Pig Board' which consisted of slow cooked pork belly, crackling & cider apple sauce, BBQ ribs, a scotch egg, sausages, fries, and slaw. It was a great way to try much of the menu and was cooked to perfection - 10/10 would recommend.

Just needed a quick bite for lunch and this was great! Simple looking menu but everything was so fresh and tasty. Will definitely return next time we are Bristol. Small restaurant but highly recommended. The woman who worked front of house was so smiley and friendly. The pulled pork roll was excellent and the loaded fries are amazing!

Wow! Such a fantastic experience here and such amazing food! Service super quick and friendly efficient staff. Milly was so attentive and couldnt do enough for us 🥰 It's definitely worth a visit . We had the Pig sharing board breakfast and it was superb! We took some home in a doggy bag, too nice to waste 👏

We have been before and always love the food. We went yesterday and had the most amazing service from the young lady Nothing was too much trouble and she went over and above to serve and make all the customers happy!!!

I can't say I'm a fan of the container style eateries, anywhere. The food here was good but very expensive for what is just a style of burger. Fries are separate too. I found it cramped seating too but that's a style of this type of eatery. The setting is lovely and there was a great selection of beers. Plenty to chose from with regards to food also. Service could have been happier.

Had a great experience here. For starter we ordered the crackling and scotch egg to share both were amazing. For main we both had the pulled pork bun with the pig in blanket fries to share. Great portions and friendly service.

Great food, quick service and a nice beer too! I noticed they are Certified B Corp too which is amazing. (That means they meet rigorous standards relating to the environmental and social aspects of their business).

Great place for pork lovers. Dropped in on a Sunday for brunch. Food excellent although by Sunday morning they had run out of scotch eggs (their scotch egg is a must try). The breakfast stack is great but if you are really hungry go for the Whole Hog and a side of loaded hash browns. All very tasty washed down with cider. Prices: No picture taken of the menu, sorry, but for burgers, sides and a round of drinks we spent £ 25 a head including the service charge added automatically to the bill.

Great food great service nice little location as well. We have been here several times always enjoyed our food Reasonably priced for what you get as well.

A bit disappointing. We had scotch eggs. The eggs inside were cooked just right, but the sausage meat was thin and very plain tasting, served with standard heinz bbq sauce. Unexpected given that sausages are their big thing and from their decor they are very proud of them. The chips were ok. They have nice beers. Very friendly waitress.

This place has been recommended to me by friends! The young lady who took my order was very friendly and took great care to answer all my questions regarding the food. The burger was prepared promptly and OH MY! It was absolutely fantastic ( had the pulled pork one)the sauce mixed with the mustard and gherkins is just next level.

One of my new favourite spots in Bristol! Great food and great service (thanks Millie). All the food was delicious with the pork obviously being a stand out (can highly recommend the pig board). Service was flawless from making a booking, helping to choose what to order, and whilst eating. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday evening although deliveries were busy. I can't wait to come back!
