Lovely dining room with views over the sea. There is a dress code and overall the feel is that of a cruise with well heeled passengers - everyone well dressed and well behaved and not many under 60. The food can be very good if sometimes a bit ambitious,.good wine list and generally attentive service. The only issue I had was a coffee creme brulee - not coffee flavoured but actual coffee poured on top. Mistake! Otherwise very good.

Took the family here for Sunday lunch. The food was very tasty but the day was spoilt by very poor customer service. Just before the starters were served, the waiter accidentally spilt an entire pint of beer over me and one of the family. He was mortified. He changed our seats, mopped up as best he could and went off to get another pint. Neither the restaurant manager not the hotel manager came over to check us out. I spent the entire meal soaked in beer which was all over my shirt and trousers. I understand that accidents happen - but to make matters worse I was still charged for the beer. There was no apology or recompense was offered. On examining the bill we also found that a Bloody Mary comes in at £10.50. Even by London hotel standards this is ridiculous. Unfortunately customer care calls far short of the quality of their food.

We had a couple of meals here recently both for mothers day lunch and also an evening dinner. They have certainly improved over the years and worthy of their two AA rosettes. The food and service was amazing on both occasions and I particularly enjoy the spatchcock chicken dish they serve. The extra level of service for mothers day presenting the mothers and grandmothers with a daffodil in a pot was lovely.

We went there for lunch and sat on the terrace overlooking the sea. The food was great and the service excellent as I did have a problem with my fish not being properly cooked but they took it away and served up a whole new lunch for me and the staff were very apologetic. The Pimms was delightful although a little on the expensive side

We were not staying but booked for dinner as a treat. Started with a drink in the bar. Barman couldn't even get the drinks right. Hassled us to go to the restaurant with our half finished drinks where we stood waiting for someone to seat us. It was not busy but the staff were either detached and unobservant, or couldn't speak English. The food was not good, expensive for what it was. Didn't feel welcome, didn't enjoy it and wouldn't go back.

We were staying at The Royal Duchy and decided to try out the restaurant and we're so thankful we did. Firstly the service was impeccable. The staff were friendly, courteous, attentive and very knowledgeable. They were always on hand to help and couldn't do enough to make our visit enjoyable. Secondly the food was amazing. Beautifully cooked and presented and there was a wide a varied choice offering locally sourced food. Every course was absolutely delicious. I cannot rate the restaurant highly enough. It offered great value for money and we'll definitely be visiting again.

We decided to try this place located in The Royal Duchy Hotel for dinner after having previously been for Fathers Day lunch, which was quite nice. This restaurant has just been though a refit and rebrand and has, according to the local press, had £1 million spent on it and been awarded 2 AA rosettes. Well I'm staggered really as clearly they didn't spend the money on the staff or the chefs! We started with a fairly nice crab salad and in line with other comments it was on the sparse side! Next my wife asked for a medium steak, well this came completely overcooked and very dry. When the non English waitress asked how it was we complained and she said she would get the manager, he came across, again not a native English speaker, and said he would pass the comment on and would we like another one. My wife declined as it really annoys her to eat without me and he didn't offered to re-plate both dishes, which when you are eating at a place where it’s nearly £40 a head and the steak has an additional supplement charge is just not good enough. She explained she would not be eating it and therefore not paying for it. A chef at this standard should be able to at least cook a steak properly This place employs predominantly foreign staff and whilst I don’t have a problem with that I do have an issue with them being unable to speak good English, unable to clearly understand the guest, being poorly trained and being very abrupt. We also ordered a jug of lemonade so my wife could mix her own spritzers and this duly disappeared from the table without me seeing when the waitress was clearing down part way though the meal, very annoying as it wasn't empty and the waitress obviously wasn't paying attention! When it came to desert my wife ordered cheese and biscuits which were also bland and tasteless. By this stage we really had had enough. We commented to the waitress and she once again went off to get the restaurant manager, he came across and as my wife was explaining he just laughed derisorily! We were both taken aback by this as clearly he thought we were complaining for the sake of it and it was also clear from his attitude that he probably had no intention whatsoever of passing on the feedback back to the chef who also clearly has issues by producing overcooked, dry, bland and tasteless food. After the initial shock and disbelief at him laughing at us I tackled him about this but he got very defensive and denied doing it. I got quite cross and told him to leave. He walked out the restaurant and I decided to follow him as I was pretty annoyed at this point. He made a beeline straight for the hotel general manager who was in the reception area and obviously thought he had better cover himself. He didn’t realize however that I was right behind him, I told him to leave and then sat down with the hotel manager who was very calming and professional. I explained the issues and also that at the level they are trying to operate at this was simply not good enough and unbelievable that anyone should be treated this way. I told him we were willing to pay for what we had but to give him his due he declined to take any payment at all and apologized. Whether this improves only time will tell but we definitely won’t be returning in the near future and you will definitely not “enjoy the best fine dining in Falmouth” as billed on their website! There are far more places in Falmouth deserving of that accolade!

We used to love popping in here when we were in Truro, you would be lucky to get a seat but now it’s take your pick. In a nutshell the place has lost its soul.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

For a spot of lunch, my wife and two children decided to eat here. Never again. We settled on the beef style kebabs (on a skewer). With rice. The beef was tough, tastless, rough and badly cooked. I was a butcher, I should know! Rice was microwaved but still undercooked! The salad that came with it was soggy, rotten and floppy. The best part of the meal was the kids fish goujons. We spent 70 quid (including drinks) on some of the worst food I've eaten.
