this is by far the worst fish bar i have EVER been to, rude staff, rotten food, rip off prices, dirty resterant, tiny portions , crap fish, crap chips, piles of litter outside the resterant, PLEASE PLEASE avoid this dump , ps they made be pay £ 2.30 for a small canned drink AVOID like the plague, please not there are superp fish bars in rye and dungenegess

awful. took them 20 mins for 3 chips and they said 10. bad customer service and unfriendly staff would not visit ever again

my cod tasted nothing like cod and the chips tasted like cardboard,the food did not taste fresh at all, the prices were a TOTAL RIP OFF over £ 2 pounds just for a can of drink,portions small and lousy food all round, the staff had no manners to say the least, the inside of the restaurant looked like it could do with a good sweep up, dust on the floor poor hygiene etc, as for the outside seagull mess on the wooden benches and piles of litter including empty beer cans and general filth around the outside eating area, it looked like it hadnt been cleaned for days, this used to be a great fish shop now it is an overpriced dump, avoid this dump like the black death, there are superb fish bars in rye and dungeness, well worth the drive.

Dire is the only world to describe the fish and chips that we bought this evening. The smallest piece of fish that I have ever seen, even thought it was called a standard one . I don’t think that it should even be called a mini fish. it would have been laughable if it hadn’t cost £8. It was weirdly flat and I doubt that it was even cod. We won’t be returning. Please don’t waste your hard earned cash.

Unfortunately have to put a tick on our experience panel, would have prefered to miss this section as they don't deserve anything. AWFUL!!!! The staff are rude. Delivery was late so hence cold soggy fish&chips not very appetising. I ordered Cod got fish of some sort Ddefinately not Cod. But of course was charged Cod price. When I phoned to say I wasn't happy with our order. They said they don't care and put down the phone. Which sums up where we are in Britain nowadays! Will never order from here again or recommend to anyone.

we went here for a takeaway meal . the meal was for 4 adults and one child and it is the worst fish and chips that I ever remember eating. My daughter checked the reviews and said it should be a good place to get our meal. we waited a long time which i thought was a good sign ,meaning it will be nice and fresh. when we got back to our holiday place and opened the boxes, we could not believe how flat the fish was. I have never seen battered fish look like flat kippers before. talk about dissapointed . the chips werent very good either could have done with more cooking. I wish someone had put an up to date review on here and we would never have gone to this place. it was supposed to be a highight of our holiday . It was such a let down

Nice enough. Does the job. Curry sauce isn’t worth buying - v watery. Mushy peas, battered sausage and chips all good. Fish is a nice fillet but the batter isn’t crispy or bubbly - very thin. Don’t put enough salt and vinegar on or have it out so you can do it yourself. Polite staff and good prices, but underwhelming.

This place is the worst take away I have ever been. The wait for food was unacceptable. Over 20 minutes. I hear you say at least the food was freshly cooked. The answer was no. Cold bland and the cheapest of ingredients at very high prices. The order was even missing items when we got back to each it. Quite honestly this place could do with a good clean as well

DREADFUL TOTAL RIPP OFF , PRICES WILL SHOCK, FOOD POOR AND NASTY, i have been going to camber for over 30 years and this was always a great fish and chip shop, now i believe it has new owners, and my goodness has it gone down hill, i went there last night and was charged over £6 for small chips and a can of drink, as it said £3.50 for small chips i asked right if this was right, he then got aggresive and said he had to put hes prices up but had not updated it on the board, when i asked him how much the can of drink was he said £2.20 i said sorry thats too much he then became rude and aggresive again, as i was there a woman came into the shop and complained that she had been overcharged £ 3 pounds for her fish and chips, once again he was rude to the woman instead of saying sorry, when i got home my chips were tasteless and NOT fresh, not only is the food VERY poor but the prices are a TOTAL rip off, plus rude staff, AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE, there are 3 superb fish shops in rye 3 miles away and another 2 in lydd 5 miles away, you will get MUCH better prices MUCH better food and MUCH better service.

Staying here on holiday at Parkdean Resorts and decided to try it today. We had chips and pineapple fritters and it tasted very fresh. They man who served us was pleasant and friendly. Would visit again.

Very disappointing. £13 for large cod and chips. The fish portion was tiny & probably not cod. The chips were dry and like cardboard. We passed some chips thrown in the road - bad behaviour but maybe we know why.

Sadly, the worst fish and chips I have ever encountered. We ordered two standard cod and chips. Firstly the fish. £8 each. Teeny, tiny fillets of something which was definitely a white fish but almost certainly not cod. Perhaps coley, hake or pollack. Almost certainly cooked from frozen. Batter was flat and thin with no crispy bits. Inedible in our opinion. Then the chips. Looked ok but were undercooked and utterly tasteless. Service. Gruff and smileless. Avoid this place. We spent £19:80 on supper and put 90% of it in the bin. We had scrambled eggs on toast for dinner instead. Much nicer but a rubbish way to start a week in Camber sands. Will try Marino’s in Rye next time which is probably where we should have gone in the first place.

Don’t waste your money! I really wish we’d driven 4 miles to Rye to get our take away fish and chips rather than go for the local option, as this has to have been the worst ‘cod’ and chips I’ve ever had… and trust me, I’ve tried some of the best that our wonderful seaside towns in the UK have to offer. £8 for a small piece of unidentifiable white fish that looked as if it had come straight out of the freezer pre-battered, but tasted even worse. The chips tasted like the fat that they were fried in hadn’t been changed for weeks…..it all went in the bin after a couple of bites as I didn’t want to risk being up all night with a nasty case of food poisoning.

Disgusting chips weren’t even cooked and curry sauce was like water. Was the only customer in the shop it was silent and awkward and flies everywhere.

Got a family takeaway of just 4 x chips as the reviews were so awful we were afraid to risk anything else . Unfortunately my daughter quietly bought a large sausage, ate only half as it was so nasty and she spent most of that night and subsequent 24 hours throwing up . She had only fruit prior to that so we’re 99.9% sure The Pelican was to blame . Disgusting establishment.

Really poor. Paid for a large cheesy chips, was given a small, questioned this to be told, they only do small in cheesy chips. Why they couldn't have told me that when I ordered I don't know. Also had a sausage, luckily I broke this up for my 4 year old, it was raw inside. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Overpriced, overcooked and tasteless food. Sadly there are limited options for good food in area for tourists, I can only think this is the reason why it's still open. Only reason it's getting 2 rating is because chips were edible

We ordered four large fish and chips and had to wait outside for 40 min. The chips were absolutely dreadful dry burnt and tasted like they had been cooked in old cooking oil. Fish was crap and very small. We didn't finish eating it because it was so bad the worst I've ever had from any place in uk. Even the seagulls wouldn't eat it they just flue away. Will never go back to pelican fish bar keep away at all costs.

Great food and great service. Very quick and decently priced. Very close to the holiday parks and the beach so is worth a visit if you’re down here.

Very hungry and fancied fish and chips so thought we would give it a go without checking reviews, what a big mistake the food was disgusting , we ordered cod that was like powder the savaloy was stone cold and the chips were anemic, the fish took 10 minutes to cook. And the price is shocking we had small cod small chips savaloy and a small sausage and it was £15 , its a complete rip off, AVOID!!!

Standard fish was the smallest I've ever seen, more like a fish finger. It was tasteless, dry and hard, we suspect it was frozen as the texture was all wrong. Not sure if it was even cod. It's pricey too. Very disappointing and would not recommend.

We come to Camber twice a year on holiday and have ordered sausage, fish and chips from this place every time. It was lovely food but this time was diabolical! We ordered Rock and then got a call to say they didn’t have it so changed it to cod. They then said we had to pay the £2 difference in cash when they delivered our order. The fish was tiny and tasteless and the chips were undercooked. Cost us £60 for a family of 4! Turns out it has changed ownership and the Cod is not Cod - it was Coley. And a small amount! Vile! I tried calling them to express my disappointment but initially didn’t get an answer so I called the mobile number they called me on and they said it was a taxi service! So I called the main number again 8 times until I finally got through and they didn’t care at all. I will never order from this place again. A complete waste of money and most of the meal was inedible. If you want a decent fish and chips, just travel into Rye for Marino’s. It’s collection only but it’s worth it. Delivery from this place is rank!!

I would have awarded 5 srtars without doubt! Visited within an hour of arriving and sorted out 4 empty stomachs admirably with nice food, last night I ordered 2x Pizzas, one chicken kebab thingy and a half pounder burger, my burger had cheese in it, which wan't included in the menu, mistakes happen and the guy did say he'd cook me another BUT when I first called and enquired whether this particular burger had cheese in I was told no, when I then told him of my order and that I had cheese and was making sure it was not my mistake I was told that all half pounders come with cheese! 180 degree turn around, I wasn't going to walk 2 miles for a burger but please don't say one thing then swap it over!

Short and sweet review. 3 adults, 2 children all fed on Saturday afternoon. Cod and chips, Sausage and chips, Quarter pounder with cheese, Chicken nuggets kids meal and of course.. Halloumi Fritters! Thoroughly enjoyed by all! So much that I forgot to take a photo!

Fish so dry you wonder if it was fish Chips are also cooked in same oil as fish so be aware as my partner has a real hate and sickness for the smell and taste of fish it makes him sick we didn’t think to ask before buying as we have not come across a fish and chip shop that cross contaminated fish with any other foods cooked in oil

Gross! Don’t waste your money. Fish and chips. Batter is thin, soggy and you can see the black thick skin of the cod through the fillet. Chips are ok hence one star. Saveloy also old.. wrinkled and unappetising.

No veggie burger available, nor cheese and onion pasty. Only a veg pancake roll that resembled dog food inside a pale pastry outer. Couldn't decipher if it was vegetable or not, so that went in the bin. The chips were okay. The staff are friendly enough but disorganised, forgetting part of the order. Won't bother to visit again.

This is probably one of the saving Grace's of camber sands, which says a lot about the area.The fish and chips were freshly cooked and of a good quality, the only strange thing was that mushy peas were stored in a fridge on portions and warmed up when ordered, which did make me question what else gets microwaved, as all the cooking apart from frying is done in the backroom, so I wouldn't want to vouch for the kebabs or burgers, as they just magically appeared when ordered.It's not a cheap shop, but is reasonably priced but if you were a family with children it wouldn't because cheap fish supper.

Visited this fish and chip shop while on holiday at Camber sands. There wa four adults and one child. My wife is vegetarian so ordered burger on arrival. Three of ordered chicken which was as dry and tasteless as you could get. One had fish which you would have thought would be fresh, but it didn't look it. Portions were good but food was not of high standard. Being by the sea you would of expected fresh fish. Bit disappointed to say the least.

What a great find, just outside Pontins Park this is a gem of a chippy.

I love the food here! It is better than at home and the chips stay fresh tasting until the next evening. Usually chips would taste like cardboard... this place is an exception! The pieces of fish are enormous and the donner kebab tastes amazing. It is great that it is so close to Pontins.. I highly reccommend it!

So this is a chip shop at the popular holiday destination camber sands, the food is traditional, and best of all it’s actually nice!!!! To add to it they do spam fritters & battered burgers, something that traditional fish & chip shop’s stopped doing years back! Good chip portion sizes too, All in all a decent munch for a decent price! Recommended, the only downside is the opening times, they should stay open until at least 10pm

We had takeaway and I would say it was great service, and great fish, the chippys was not perfect, but as a takeaway I would say the was still really good since it took us a few minutes to get back to our campervan to eat it. Not the best location to sit and have your food there, but since its more of a takeaway place my scoring is based on it being a takeaway. We tried 3 different fish & chips places in Camber and this was by far the best one.

2 of us visited at 5pm on a Sunday. It was really busy as there was a Rockabilly Weekend at Pontins and all the smartly dressed visitors needed food by the looks of the queue waiting!

Visited the Pelican Fish Bar twice during our vacations in Rye (Pontins Holiday Centre) on June 2019. The food was amazing (loved the XL Fish & Chips - which was really XL!) and also the burgers were just great. The stuff was more than friendly. Overall, a great experience.

Don’t be put off by the look of the place, the food was great and the service quick. Not expensive either!

Absolutely loved my Fish and chips from here. I’m not much of a big eater so I couldn’t finish a portion alone, two people could easily share a potion of chips. Cooked nicely and great food :)

Really tasty fish and chips, veggie option of a vegetable spring or curry roll so my daughter was very happy. staff were very friendly and smiley which is lovely to see. We look forward to returning on our next visit to Camber Sands.

Had a quick take away portion of chips for our first night at caravan park near by. Tasty large portion for £3, fed two adults and a child with some other nibbles I made in the caravan. Not bad at all.

Had a fish and chip supper and was impressed all round by the quality and the portion size which they didn’t hold back on. We had Cod, rock and chips. We had to share the chips as there was so many. We couldn’t eat all the chips so saved them and had chip butties later on.

Can be a bit of a delay to be expected as they cook most of the fish and chips to order, Alway friendly service and great value for money. Would not hesitate to recommend them.

The food was tasty and very fresh – we brought our food back and enjoyed it in the caravan as we were staying in a nearby resort. The fish shop is also very clean.

Very friendly people nothing to much. The food was a bit of a let down although you got very big portions. The saveloys were like rubber. The chips were big and thick. had to sit on the ledge near the window as there were not seating inside and to cold to sit outside.

Having been a resident for many years and always buy our fish and chips here, quality of fish and chips is good, however the disappointing thing is the fact that all through the summer you take debit card payments.

The services was fine. I only had chips from this Fish Bar which were very disappointing as I believe they had been cooked and sat there for the next customer. I would have rather waited for the chips to be cooked, rather than the seller predicting when customers would come in.

Given the proximity to the sea a fish and chip shop needs to be on point. The chips were nice but the fish wasn't, soggy batter and clearly frozen. It definitely wasn't the worst I've ever had but it was disappointing.
