Lovely old tea shop in Rochester. The entrance is easy to miss though. Its on the main street and upstairs, so you would have to be mobile to go there. Expect to wait 15 mins as it's very popular and doesn't seat alot. Staff very friendly and welcoming, lovely homemade food

Visted this rather dated tea rooms quite a few times over the years , always found it old fashion but quaint, except on my last visit , on ordering the potato bake I found it was under cooked , the lovely young waitress offered to change my order which I did , however a short while later the cook / owner brought over my food and almost threw my plate across the table , no smile , no apology obviously quite irritated by me for returning my order and many of her regular customers were quite appalled.

Visited here for the first time recently and found the complete experience to be a very pleasant one. Service was polite and prompt. Food was plentiful, served hot and tasty. Menu choices are varied and the homemade cakes are fantastic and well worth putting on those extra calories for! Prices are very reasonable too. A nice relaxed atmosphere added to the overall initial impressions which were excellent. You will need to time your visit as being so popular and there not being too many tables, this lovely quaint venue is a victim of its own success which can be no bad thing can it.

We saw the menu boards outside (you go up the stairs) and decided that we would go here instead. It is like stepping into a time warp! It is an old fashioned tea room of yesteryear. Magnificent homemade cakes proudly displayed. We all choose from the specials board, I had homemade steak and mushroom pie. The short crust pasty was delicious, generous chunks of steak and fresh mushrooms yummy, served with a mixed and colourful side salad. I even squeezed in a warming ginger pudding with clotted cream. I was reliably informed that the homemade fish pie and cheese and potato bake were also very good.

Having visited the excellent Baggins Bookshop and finding a great copy of Saki’s short stories, I was in need of a cup of tea, so followed the sign up some narrow stairs. There was a caution sign on the gents toilets about being for customers only, then I was in Peggoty’s Parlour. The parlour is a large room with sash windows overlooking the wonderful High Street and Cathedral, with tables for two or four. I ordered a cream tea, which was one of the best I have ever enjoyed - the fruit scones were deliciously warm and the cream was in a generous supply, along with some great strawberry jam (jelly for you colonials). The waitress was very polite and efficient- from ordering to delivery took 2 minutes! You pay at the table in cash and then I had to use the gents as a paying customer! The lack of space means you have to try your luck, but if you are lucky, enjoy a slice of ye olde England for a very reasonable price : I paid £5 for the exemplary cream tea.

A Thursday lunchtime a couple of weeks ago I was looking for another place to enjoy another English Breakfast. I had spotted this doorway earlier and thought 'Lets give it a try'. I was a little surprised to find the only seating area was the size of my lounge room in Perth and the tables were quite small. Perfect for one or two, a bit cramped for three and really pushing your luck for four! However, 7 out of 10 tables were either couples or singles and that was fine by me. Quick attentive service and I opted for their small version of an English Breakfast with a pot of tea. Didn't have to wait too long and had an enjoyable time munching my way through. It didn't get overly busy so I didn't feel bad about lingering a few minutes after finishing. It seemed several customers there were regulars, going by some of the conversations that you couldn't really help but overhear...

Visiting Rochester and having just visited the castle, our party of six just fancied a light lunch as we would be dining later. It was lunch time and tried several cafe's / small restuarants but the number in our party tended to be too big. We were walking past Peggotty's Parlour without really noticing it as you have to enter via one door off the pavement and up a couple of flights of steps. We saw a couple come out and they said it was very nice and looked to have room for us. The staff were very polite and for such a small place had a great selection of teas, coffees and light lunches. Perfect for what we wanted

My wife and I decided we would like a cup of tea and a cake, we found Peggotty's by chance and ordered tea for two and a cake, the staff were very efficient and friendly, our order was quickly served which was very nice and very good value for money, next time we visit Rochester Peggottys will be high on our list for lunch.

Once again enjoyed excellent home-made cakes in this little gem of a tea shop. Five of us arrived quite late in the afternoon but were greeted warmly and served promptly. We all had different cakes, including a scone, and all were delicious and devoured eagerly. Hot chocolate a little too sweet/rich for my taste but everything else (including an excellent range of speciality teas) was great.

We found this place upstairs on the High Street. They have simple light lunches such as quiche or ploughmans. All served quickly and efficiently and pleasantly. Good value too.

I visited here with family for a spot of lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Its a lovely little old place, located on the first floor down the cobbled high street. Very simple tasty lunches and a great selection of cakes. The scones were delicious as were the omlettes and jacket potatoes. Service was friendly and prices reasonable! We were seated by the window which looked out over the high street with views of the church. Would definitely come back again!

I really enjoyed my tea and cheese on toast, and a piece of cake. A nice traditional menu in a nice traditional atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

We stumbled across this place by chance when visiting the town. It's quirky, dated and full of charm. If you are looking for modern or fancy - don't go, you won't like it.

I arranged to meet friends here one Saturday afternoon and made the mistake of walking into the tea room before being asked to take a seat. From then on I was ignored by the waitresses who were rather thin on the ground anyway and decided to leave. I have eaten here before and although okay there are far nicer places to eat in the High Street so I won't be venturing back.

I went with a friend at the weekend during my first visit to Rochester. It's reached by a narrow, drab flight of stairs from Rochester High Street and only takes cash, but the 'parlour' itself is old-fashioned and if not luxurious, then decent enough. Think Lyon's Tea House rather than anywhere Miss Marple frequented, and expect a menu of basic staple snacks like jacket potatoes, sandwiches and cakes with specials of quiches, soup, pies and stodgy desserts. My lemonade had clearly been poured straight from a large bottle and the apple juice was a small amount in a wine glass but the overall cost was entirely reasonable, we felt, and the lasagne and the cheese/potato/onion bake with sides were filling and tasty. If you want somewhere more wholesome than a proverbial greasy spoon but don't expect the Ritz, then this is great, and our experience of the service was fine too. The only thing we should warn about is that there are apparently no baby-changing facilities there, as a mum lunching alongside us found out.

We popped in as they were advertising coffee and homemade cake for £3, which was a bargain. The cafe is in an upstairs room which is very cosy, especially on a cold winter's day. The service is friendly and prompt. The array of cakes looks very tempting. They also serve breakfast and lunches and there is a good choice of dishes.

We had a very warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door. We only had coffee and cake but they were all superb and the waitress was excellent. I’d certainly use this cafe again.

Reasonable food though service was poor in that after waiting 20 minutes for my dessert I had to reorder my dessert as the order had not been passed to the kitchen.
