First time coming here and was very excited to have the Sunday roast provided. Me and my partner both got the pork roast and it looked amazing! The staff was very attentive and tended to all our needs. The roast itself was a huge disappointment as they had made the pork so salty it was unedible, the Yorkshire pudding was burnt and tasted of marmite. Me and my partner had paid out for a good meal and left disappointed.

The Best Sunday Roast I've ever had out. To be honest I think it even beats any roast I've ever cooked at home. The cauliflower cheese, lamb sharer and the pork were phenomenal. Whoever the chef is, seriously knows what they're doing. The staff were excellent, young but really friendly, knowledgeable and hard working. The atmosphere was lively, casual and the live music singer on Sunday was the perfect touch. Cannot recommend this pub enough for a Sunday Roast. We also had 12 oysters to start- gorgeous. Shame we live so far away or this would be my weekly go to.

Have been for a meal here before and enjoyed it. Last night however the meal was terrible. I don't know if it was a different chef, but certainly won't be returning. My friend ordered fish and chips and the fish was disgraceful. I've seen bigger fish fingers! There was a tiny piece of fish in a lot of batter. We were given £10 off the meal but it was both embarrassing and disappointing to take friends for a meal, telling them the food was good. My gammon meal cost £21 for a small amount of ham, a few chips and a hard egg and peas. I have had a better similar meal in a café for a fraction of the price. My friends mussels were overcooked and when we asked for the accompanying chips that were listed a pitiful amount arrived. All in all a very disappointing, expensive night.

Upon being in Whitstable unplanned we found ourselves struggling to find somewhere to dine. So we’re more than pleased when we called and managed to get a reservation. Sadly, now we know why. This once very popular talked about pub/restaurant was not as we had expected. The staff were super friendly and attentive. But the food lacked really substance. The catch of the day was plaice and when I asked how this was served there was no option for it to be filleted it was whole or not at all. The prawn starter, my husband liked, I opted for scampi - which is an odd starter but nothing else screamed to me as the calamari came with an unusual sauce. The mains were the most disappointing - bangers and mash - tiny! The sausages were small and tasteless not a good hearty flavoured one. I opted for fish and chips - the mushy peas tasted like perfume with a very odd aftertaste and half way through the chips the flavour changed to what I can only describe as stale chips recooked - my husband agreed on this. The pudding we chose to share and was described as apple tart with a crumble topping - this was two premade tarts with not a crumble in sight plus a very small (minute) jug of custard. The final point to note was when we requested the bill we were told “just to let you know that there is no service charge on there!” Right - ok - awkward moment. Then when they came with the card machine we were asked again - “ would you like to add service?” It wasn’t a silent option on the card machine. All in all we paid £95 for a less than average pretty tasteless pub meal. We won’t be returning as there are way more options in Whitstable. Have a rethink!

Had dinner with friends recently at Pearsons Arms. They had a live band downstairs, which set the right tone for a Friday night. Followed by a DJ. Bar staff were friendly. We had the 2 course set menu. Delicious sea bass and a really tasty chocolate/orange brownie. Good portions and value for money. Felt very well looked after by the staff and the place looked really nice and cosy. Great location to watch the sun go down close to Whistable beach. Will definitely go back.

A quiet Monday evening in The Pearsons Arms, but what a lovely pub. We have 2 dogs so stayed downstairs in the bar area. Cosy snug sofa seating at the rear. Very old traditional looking pub where we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly barmaid. Service was excellent and food was fantastic. Very fresh plump mussels with chips, bangers and mash with onion gravy all cooked to perfection. Good choice of locally brewed beers and lagers. Loved it.

Arrived with friends the first day the menu had been changed, so there was no bar food, just main meals that seemed quite expensive. We all chose to eat starters as it was a lunchtime - two whipped feta and one prawns starter - and were quite satisfied with the taste and presentation. We sat upstairs after initially been directed to a table downstairs., which wasn’t suitable. The waiting staff were attentive and keen. We were asked to leave a review as it’s a new menu. Overall a pleasant experience and would go again but maybe in the evening.

They had just finished serving so we found ourselves across the road at The Lazy Lobster who welcomed us after checking with the chef. We tried lunching the next day. We returned to the Pearsons Arms after seeing it was under new management. Pub itself (especially upstairs) is lovely, with great sea views. However, it feels like it relies on this aspect in order to make up for the mediocre service and food (which is quite expensive!) We had a Sunday roast, which was luke warm, with minimal gravy. There was one coeliac diner, and whilst the kitchen marked which meals were safe, items were just removed from the plate (e.g Yorkshire puddings and gravy) and even when asked, there was no alternative offered, nor a price reduction given. We also ordered some extra chips which just tasted of oil. The staff didn’t exactly exude confidence and it felt like we had to ask for everything, rather than being asked e.g additional drinks. A real shame as the location is excellent, but I think there are probably better places to go for Sunday lunch in Whitstable.

I was left extremely disappointed with our experience at the Pearsons this time. After having so many amazing meals here over the past few years, we decided the Peasons was our first choice for our wedding anniversary. Also, our first child free evening, since having our son. When booking a good few weeks ago, i mentioned that as it was for a special occasion, we asked for the lovely two-seater table overlooking the sea. At the time of booking, the gentleman on the phone said this was absolutely no problem, the table was ours, he even said as it was a special occasion this would be noted with our booking. When we arrived, the table had been only recently given to another customer. If you can't reserve tables, this should be told at the time of booking, and not be promised a table. There was also no acknowledgement of our anniversary. Service was slow, for only three tables being occupied, we ordered a second lot of drinks with our starters being collected, still not to have received them by the time they were looking to take our dessert order. We were told they were short staffed, and I completely sympathise with that and the staff on shift. However I feel when you are paying good money for a meal, the least you can do is have sufficient staff on to look after your customers. Also, for only three tables being occupied, what would the service have been if they were any busier. The food my husband had, we can not fault, however I am a vegetarian, and for me the menus that are advertised on the website are not currently the same as in the restaurant, and my options were a courgette starter, followed by a courgette based main, both were very tasty, but choice for the first time ever for me was poor. All in all, we were really looking forward to the chance to get back to our favourite restaurant, to be left throughly disappointed all round.

Booked a table for 4pm, arrived on time, myself and my partner had just been for a drink with my dad for Father’s Day, we asked if could possibly change the booking from 2 people to 3 but it wasn’t a problem if not, they confirmed this was fine but give them 5 mins to set up the table, we ordered a drink at the bar in the meantime. While at the bar we decided what we were having and then the waitress called us up to our table. It was all very frantic when we got upstairs, we were told the kitchen was now closed?! So they needed our order right away, I said this was fine we decided while at the bar, order was taken by 4:15, waitress then comes back out and said the kitchen was closed and they were not taking our order?! Why would you take a booking for 4pm!! Makes zero sense, such terrible service. In hindsight, a blessing in disguise, originally we were sat at a table downstairs next to toilets that stunk (they were blocked and staff themselves were trying to unblock them) when arriving there were so many people stood behind the bar, yet we had to ask someone where our table was for our booking, no one approached us. After reading reviews on here after this happened, I am so glad we went elsewhere. We headed over the road back into the Duke of Cumberland, we often go in here for a drink, we have not eaten here before and will definitely be going back. Really friendly and attentive staff, amazing roast and dessert and clean toilets. Also, Pearson’s arms, £7.00 for a peroni, it’s Whitstable not London

The pub needs a good deep clean, smelt terrible downstairs going into the toilets and handrail going upto the restaurant all sticky. Needed a good paint and refurb. There were four of us dining. My starter came after everyone had already eaten ,and the scotch egg I'd ordered was not cooked inside. The mains were very poor. I had the fish and chips , the batter underneath was all soggy and battered tasted of nothing . The deserts we all had were Eton mess. The waitress bless her sent them back before they reached us as she said they were not upto standard. When they did arrive they were awful(Pearson arms meringue!!!) rock hard out of a packet and so small. We will never return unless we hear that things have changed. What a shame. Solid mixed use boozer, the Pearsons Arms doubles as a decent lunch option with the family and also a reasonable place to get a few late night beers with mates (especially if they have live music on). Food quality was varied but overall pretty good - the ‘free food for kids’ is a stroke of genius, fair play. All of this plus a great location by the beach, which means sea views from upstairs during the day and the sound of waves gently lapping as you stagger out after a sesh at night - something here for everyone.

So - we had sunday lunch here 3 times in the past 3 months. On the first occasion, we were booked in at 4pm. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived, when we were finally seated after 25 minutes there were only 3 other tables occupied. Most of the veg had run out, and the beef was very chewy. As we'd eaten in here a few times before and had good experiences, we tried again. This time we were earlier at around 2pm, and the meal was much better. The pigs in blankets were superb (an extra to the sunday lunch). My wife's chicken was good, not brilliant and my turkey was very good. Based on this experience, we booked in for december for their christmas menu. All i can say is the food, what there was of it, was ok. However, for a christmas dinner there was only 1 small slice of turkey. The portion was appalling and not worth the price. The veg were ok but not great. All in all we won't be back. Nor will other family members who went between christmas and new year and had similar issues with portion sizes.

Not offered table water, drinks took for ever, no coffee turned up, no promised mince pies. Cheese board had frozen Brie! No one came to see if everything was ok, was like we'd been forgotten. We were not the only unhappy customers. On the plus side, the starters were nice, but would not eat here again. I also found out my neice and nephew phoned ahead and paid for a bottle of wine for us as a suprise, we never received that either.

5 stars for a wonderful lunch, 4 clean plates, beautiful servers and bar staff, and a proper kitchen with chef at The Pass, (without the drama). To us, the sign of a good restaurant is that we could have never cooked a meal like this at home, and we are good cooks! Fab-U-las.

Some of the food was lovely (the starters & a couple of the mains), but while the bouillabaisse was full of fish, the sauce was very thick & quite tasteless. The service was polite enough, but why aren’t staff briefed before service about what’s unavailable? We ordered the grazing options, to be hold after a delay there was no hummus; we ordered desserts, to be told after a delay there was no honeycomb or vanilla ice cream (really?! when there’s an Iceland round the corner!). When told about the lack of ice cream options one of our party was in the bathroom, so the waitress said she’d come back to get our revised choices. She never did and we couldn’t be bothered to chase. The Pearson’s Arms used to be a really lovely, well run gastro pub but now suffers from a lack of management & staff training. Shame.

Really sad and disappointed at our visit. Food was not great - items not available, wine not available. Scallop starter was lukewarm at best. Fish in bouillabaisse overcooked, and beef bourgignon ( excuse spelling) was deconstructed!! Really want to support local restaurants but won't be back. Expensive and not great. Service was vague at best.

Had the chicken Sunday roast which is way over priced. The chicken consisted of a huge chicken leg which was absolutely flavourless and needed more cooking time to make it at least more tender. The Yorkshire pudding was so big, it seemed to be a bit of a gimmick rather than an additional food item on my plate. It was also cold. Whilst the service was quick, I had to ask for gravy and a spoon to serve the vegetables with. There was no atmosphere to speak of, it was just incredibly noisy. Altogether a rather disappointing experience especially at the prices which are being charged where one should rightly expect to have a decent meal in a decent environment.

Had heard really good things about this pub and restaurant but actually was very disappointed. We waited approximately 30 minutes for our starters and had to ask when we would receive them. The mains were very small slither of cod and chips were cold. Asked for tartare sauce and was given mayo. Asked for fresh chips and still hadn't received by the time we left the restaurant. This was not the service I was expecting and I left feeling disappointed with the experience.

Had to pre-order food for the booking of 6 people “to ensure availability“. After they confirmed our order on arrival, the vegan meal was not available. Roast potato and courgette were all they could offer. Refunded the meal after we complained but disappointing and wont rush to return

I’ve never been so disappointed with a Sunday lunch. The starters were nice (mussels and fried goats cheese) but the roast chicken was a disaster. First of all, my friend and I had to send our roasts back as they arrived cold. When the roasts returned there was nothing but bone, skin and gristle on the ‘half chicken’. No breast meat at all. The waiter took it away but didn’t return with any news from the kitchen, or and apology. It was a £30 set menu, I wish we had just gone to Ossie’s and had fish and chips.

I ordered fish and chips, and to say l was very disappointed at the food portion size would be an understatement, at £19 l was at least expecting to see more of the food cover the plate than the plate itself. Same with the lamb meal at £26. At first, we thought they gave us the children’s meals, but no it was ours, took me less than two minutes and l was icking it out to finish my fish and chips. Way overpriced for what we got. True it was the la carte menu we choose from as we wasn’t offered any other type of menu. La carte is a poor excuse for small. Fish and chips from the local fish the next night made up for the disappointment.

A large proportion of the menu was not available, particularly the oysters/seafood (which I imagine a lot of people come to Whitstable for). The food we did order was excellent, but let down by the inattentive service. For example, the wine and bread we ordered didn’t arrive until after we’d finished the main, or not at all.

Staff great, but needed to send back lobster as chewy, it was tiny (£25), also had to send back fries as cold when they arrived. Had the fish and chips, perfectly fine, they are fries and not chips (we hadn't been offered the specials list on arrival, ask for the specials list). Staff very pleasant, and a great location. Carafe of French Rose very nice. Would go again, as although a few hiccups they were all sorted out, which is all you can ask for.

We ordered the sharing fish platter for 2 at £30 pp and we were both very disappointed. Bar a few fresh mussels and 6 overcooked king prawns it was old oily cheap fish. We expected higher standards from Pearsons!! Sent calamari back as was rubbery and we were provided fresh which were no better. The waitress could see we were not happy with the meal and kindly offered us our drinks ( 2 pints) for free but it didn’t compensate Gone away feeling bloated and uncomfortable with no desire to return anytime soon

Arrived early and hand a couple of drinks in the bar downstairs which had a nice vibe. Went upstairs to an empty restaurant and ordered mains . My daughter and I ordered lamb three ways which was cold and two thirds gristle . When we complained they took it away and returned with the same awful food heated and rearranged on the plate. Wife fish meal was Luke warm and minuscule. Meal for five was delivered in three goes . Which is something you don’t expect at “restaurants” crying over £30 a course! A couple of staff were understanding and reduced the bill but the meal was awful!

Can’t speak highly for this establishment. The Ale was average The food was even worse, a very hot plate with cold chips, and some sort of green mush( not a pea in sight) , and the fish was very oily with burnt batter. Sent it back, the second attempt was not much better, the fish was still very oily, but it was dressed with a segment of lemon. I will be avoiding this one, in the future.

Eating here is just like eating a subway in New York, Miami, or Chicago...except from this one you see in the distance the magnificent and storied spires of the Canterbury Cathedral. Who wouldn't want to have that view whilst enjoying a fine subway sandwich?

Of late you can no longer get a takeaway coffee in before work, (unless work is next door), as in their wisdom coffee is now only available from 0830, now too tight a window for some of us in Canterbury to get a decent one before we start at 9.
