Pat and Ian's Fish Bar in Portsmouth

The worst takeaway I’ve ever had, revolting. Chips were lukewarm and soggy, my battered sausage was completely inedible, the fat it was cooked in was very dark brown and goodness knows how old. I’ll never eat anything from there again

Yuck, yuck and yuck. The chips were like cardboard and the fish was cut really thinly and was minute. £16 of your hard earned cash for a well below satisfactory meal. Avoid!

Originally Mays fish and chip shop, has new owners..rename Pat and Ians. Previously this shop had a fantastic reputation as being the best chippy in the area. Visited this week .. I wish I hadn’t! It was grim.. I think the same oil has been used since the closure a couple of years ago. Had a senior cod and chips, the cod was a square shape..very like the processed frozen fish that you’d find in a well known frozen high street store 🤔 All in all it was pretty dire and went in the bin

Have been going to May's for years and seems to have gone really downhill recently. Very mediocre chips, the pineapple and Pea fritters we got were very pale looking and taste fine. Everything was just fine. The fish was nice according to my mum but everything else seems to have gone downhill.

Very good value and such friendly staff. Always cheery.!! centraly located in Cosham high street. Been there for years and deserves to continue.

We have been using Pat and Ian’s fish Bar for nearly twenty years now, and it’s always good value for great fish and chips. One of the last true English fish and chip shops, and we would not go anywhere else. Thank you and up the good work 👍

Mays Fish and Chip shop.Never been disappointed with anything I’ve got from here.The tradition of this shop has never changed from the days of Arthur.After he retired his son and daughter in law took it on,then later it has been taken over by Pat and her daughter Caroline.Caroline mainly runs it now,she’s a lovely friendly young lady who I have known for quite a while.Mays fish and chips is still the best place I think in town.

I have been using this fish bar for several years now and this is the first time I have had the chance to warn you all about it. Firstly the staff it's mainly run by family Patrick, Marie and Caroline are the main people you will see serving and cooking, they are very friendly and willing to take a joke, I should know because I wind them up all the time and they now firm friends, but this doesn't stop me from telling the truth, if you buy a large portion of chips and a large piece of any fish I doubt you will manage to finish it because you get so much. Quality, this is all I can say about the quality is that it's of the highest standards. My only advice to people reading this is go there, you can eat in or take it away but it's well worth the experience, my rating of five stars is because it's the highest they let you put but this place is worth 10 any day of the week. They close at 2pm in the afternoon until 4pm and close again at 8pm.

This chippy is really popular with the Cosham locals. There always seems to be groups of young chavs buying meals from here. I have had fish and chips from here a few times and they are always quite soggy, oily and a little burnt. The flavour of the food indicates that the oil does't appear to be changed too frequently and is probably reused a lot. The fish and chips here are not the best, but if you fancy fish and chips when you're in the Cosham High Street this shop will be your nearest.
