Mermaid in Portsmouth

Since I moved to Portsmouth, this has been one of my locals, always a welcoming place and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. They have a greaat sense of community and what you don't see in many public houses nowadays,,, a bar billiards table!!

The type of pub I like to go to with the family. Reminds me of the pubs my dad would take me to in the 80s after a Pompey match. Friendly staff and quite pretty if I'm totally honest. All the locals are friendly too, but parking spaces are like rocking horse shit in this area, so you might want to take a bus. It has a pool table and also a billiards table but that is kept under lock and key and only open to play on Wednesdays, they also have 3 dart boards dotted around the place. There is a private function room out back, probably seats about 30-40 people quite comfortably and a very large garden with a climbing frame for the kids.

Homely pub, good for sports. Convivial.

To many kids running around otherwise a nice pub.

The extras provided was 2nd to none . What a fantastic night and day 2 days no sleep, saved a fortune with no food , wil definitely be back Vive levFrance 👍🇫🇷

Busy seems ok place to have a drink but difficult to strike up conversation if you not a regular which I understand... But in my opinion a nice place for a drink. Can get a bit cramped. So maybe not ideal for a date etc ..

Great pint, great staff and friendly locals. What's not to like?

What a super pub/hotel. We booked one night only fearing lack of entertainment in the area , but totally wrong and wished we had stayed 2 nights. Rye has loads to offer in way of different individual shops. The venues to eat are enormous..around every corner something for everyone. The rooms are unique and sufficiently up to date as much as possible bearing in mind the age of the surroundings. Wow the breakfast ! Fantastic let me tell you. With a limited amount of space they certainly make the most of it. Varied menu means all ages and people types can be satisfied here. The Restaurant Manager held all aspects together and every wish is met with calm expertise. Thanks you will see us again.

Seemed very much like a locals pub. But interesting all the same. Tucked away. Lots of room Definitely worth checking out.

Awesome pub, great landlord and good beer selection

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon. Asked for a dry rose, was offered zinfandel which is sweet. Ordered 2 rum and cokes, the mixer was diet so tasted gross. Will try again in the summer as the garden looks really nice.

I use mermaid more than I use to clearly I can say I enjoy the benefits of clean pumps and sitting in a spot or two I always have used . The public are straight people everyone has good attatudes also arne the landlord is a good freind and chatty

Fond memories this pub always had the best lock-in's at Christmas and new year that's over 30 years ago and the mermaid has still got plenty of life left in her yet enjoy

Not very clean, looked quite run down. Beer was good and sky sports on the screens was great though.

The Mermaid tiene un exterior interesante y se ejecuta como un pub comunitario. Lamentablemente no hay cerveza real disponible / Hay muchas pantallas para ver deportes.

First time in..although very quiet but that was due to the weather..I must add fantastic pool table..landlady very nice and found it welcoming

Fuimos en una noche de lluvia, debatiendo Neptune & Prawn and the Mermaid. Nos alegramos mucho de haber ido a Mermaid, ya que nuestros aperitivos fueron increíbles. Sal y pimienta Camarones y Chili Camarones, con una ensalada de queso de cabra. ¡Increíble! Nuestro plato principal era un marisco Thermdur. . . . . WOW y WOW. Nuestro servicio fue excelente. Trabajaron como un equipo bien engrasado y estábamos muy contentos. A debe volver.

went in to purchase takeaway. We were ignored for 10 minutes whilst bar maid fiddled around infront of us for 10 minute's making no eye contact...not serving i hasten to add! eventually left and went for usual chinese . wont bother again and i would imagine they will not remain in business for very long!!!

Great Thai food in a back street Pompey pub, had a takeaway and couldn t fault it very authentic and tasty corn cakes starter and Pad Thai prawn noodles 😊

I went for a party and it was just a long wait I don't know why anyone would go there again and I'm very mad . I wouldn't do again.

A party of us went for a birthday celebration. The very long wait for awful food ruined the evening. We were given a voucher which we should not have accepted as it nowhere near covered the cost of the food we didn't eat! Service bad too. Never been back since & would never go again!
