Guy who served us was absolutely miserable. We were going to sit inside but the atmosphere was horrible, I felt like he didn't want us in there so we decided to sit outside. I honestly wouldn't waste your money going there, there's much nicer, friendlier and cheaper places to go than here.

Handy spot in the park for tea or lunch but as there's only one person ever serving, you can be waiting a very long time to be served.

I visited this cafe today, the young girl working was so kind and friendly but the way the miserable owner spoke to her was nothing but disgusting. She looks embarrassed infront of customers. He was so belittling and awful with her. I never write reviews but I just had to! He never welcomed us once and didn’t crack a smile the whole way through.

The owner is such a misery guts! The place used to be great. The food and service are still great. But his miserable attitude would depress anyone. Nevertheless, the quality of food and price is good and the park is great. So just kill him with kindness(a very Hebden Bridge strategy)!

I would totally echo the last review. Food and staff all good except when you get the owner. He's a total misery guts. It puts me off going. But I can't fault the food except the ice cream. They used to stock northern bloc(fabuloso!) but now have some really second rate rubbish at the same price.

Had a great experience and time at the cafe. All the reviews about the COUNCIL OWNED toilets and facilities are totally unjust because how’s it their job to deal with facilities that are not their responsibility. Overall the ice cream and drink I had were absolutely tasty and the atmosphere was quite friendly and the prices are fair for the selection on offer. The entertainment for kiddies is also given with a small table that has paper on it with some crayons, which I think is super cute. Really recommend the cafe for its food, especially the ice cream and it’s fun and friendly atmosphere!

At first, I was going to write a 5-star review, but I was utterly disappointed by the rude customer service from the manager in the end towards young people. The treatment I received from the manager was appalling, DISRESPECTFUL and unwelcoming. My friend paid for a £1.50 tea but ended up spilling it before he could drink it as the lid wasn't sealed properly on the cup, and he ended up with a burn on his hand. At first, the manager gave a gesture of goodwill by giving us another one but then started criticising us young people that we got given a 'free' drink and for stealing the business by borrowing a few stools that we returned and wasn't needed at all the entire time! This experience ruined our entire Hebden Bridge journey. If your visiting Hebden bridge, there are MANY better alternatives in town that are kind and welcoming.

We visited on a lovely summer day They were very organised. You ordered at one side and they gave you a number. They shouted your number out and you collected your order at the other side. This is OK but I only ordered an ice cream cornet and I waited 25 mins for it. They have a separate hatch for ice cream which wasn't in use. They need to do the ice cream separate or they will lose custom

Found Park Life on Tripadvisor when looking for somewhere to bring my two year old niece for a morning out. We chose this place because it was in a park which she loves. Staff were lovely and friendly. The food was delicious, lovely thick bread. Everyone who had the sausage said it was beautiful. The only thing that stopped me giving a 5 was it took a while for it all to be ready but I appreciate that's because it was being freshly prepared, we wouldn't have cared about that it we didn't have a fractious toddler to amuse! They also had lots of books for kids to read which really helped keep the little one entertained.

I visited your cafe today with 2 friends & our children. I was served by a lovely girl with stars on her face & bought my son an ice cream. I went back to get another for myself & was served by a girl with green hair. The ice cream she served me was half the size of my sons & those of my friends. I asked her if I could have some more & she rudely told me that that was the size they'd been told to serve. I explained about the other ice creams & she just shrugged her shoulders & walked off. She then returned to the counter & proceeded to slag me off with her friends. From where I was Sat, I could hear every word she was saying & they all turned to look at me. As I was leaving I approached her to give her some feedback. She just walked past & didn't want to listen. We won't be returning & will be passing this information on to our other friends. This is what happens when you allow young kids with no customer service skills to run a cafe. The majority of the time we were there they were stood chatting with each other or their friends who came into the cafe

Its a pity because its in a prime position for passing trade.

We queued for nearly 40 minutes to get an ice cream from this cafe on a hot, sunny weekend in early April. There was only one girl serving and the queue moved incredibly slowly so we were really hoping that the ice cream better be some of the best we had tasted in order to justify our long wait! We were not disappointed. I had the honeycomb with a chocolate flake and my sister-in-law had strawberries and cream flavour and we both agreed that they were delicious and worth the long wait. There were about 20 different flavours to choose from with a variety of sauces and toppings which could be added free of charge! The only negative point I have to make is that the girl serving on was handling money and food, not washing her hands in between, wiping her hands on her apron (which didn't look clean), pushing her hair back etc. She was literally covered in ice cream, sauces, hundreds and thousands and then juggling notes and coins on top of that. From a food hygiene perspective this really didn't look good at all. I'm not sure what food hygiene rating the adjoining cafe has but I'm pretty sure that environmental health/food hygiene ratings would have a field day with the ice cream section :-\

Came here on a sunny afternoon with my 5 year cousin and husband. We'd planned a trip to HebdenBridge and found this cafe with good reviews om Tripadvisor so said we'd try it for lunch. Small little cafe but nicely decorated. Quite a nice menu with a few different items but as we were wanting to sit outside on the grass we opted for chips to take out. We were told it'd be a 30 min wait. Bit long but I thought we'd go get an ice-cream from their ice-cream shack and sit in the sun. Couldnt fault the ice-cream, lots of lovely flavours and good quality. About 20 mins past and we went back inside the cafe to sit and wait. Before we knew it 50 mins had passed and still no chips. By this time we were getting pretty fed up. Several times we noticed the staff got orders wrong and had to re-make them and to top it off even though we had a young child with us one of the female staff thought it was suitable to call someone a derogatory term really loudly and laugh. (Obviously someone she knew but still inappropriate) I dont think calling someone the word t**t with or without the presence of children/customers is appropriate. Our chips eventually after almost an hour and only gave us one set of chips when we ordered 3. Overall the experience was awful and I wont be back to use the cafe again. Because the ice-cream was lovely and fautless and near the park we'll be back for ice-cream. It's the only thing that's saved it from getting a 2 rating. Its a shame as I would have loved to have tried some of the different things off the menu....

The whole family met with some friends for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The cafe is in a nice position especially if you have children or dogs as the surrounding park has great facilities including a skate park and a children's play area. The building itself ( owned by the local council I imagine) is the usually 70's bland concrete brick single storey affair , but with a decent looking canopy on the front. I'm sure if the owners actually owned the building it would have been modernised or rebuilt by now, however don't let that put you off. The interior is lovely, modern, fresh, natural and the service is super friendly. Despite the fact that the service area is small, the speed of service , for a 6 person complex breakfast order was very very quick. The order was perfect including variations of gluten free toast , coffee with or without things, speciality T and toast with or without marmite ( I know , you either like it or not !!) The food was really nice, freshly prepared and tasty. It was a close call as to give them 5 stars or not ( debated at length with Mrs Deskjockey) but I stuck to 4 stars for the following reasons. Firstly whilst the menu is good , with lots of choices , it lacked, for me, a staple breakfast ingredient, poached eggs. When questioned I was told they only had a griddle and therefore could only do fried eggs , but I would suggest that for a small amount you could get an electric poacher as I think for anyone to aspire to 5 stars needs to have poached eggs especially offering a good breakfast menu. In addition, whilst the range of speciality T was good, they only had one coffee ( nice but not interesting), and again for 5 stars I would expect at least one other choice , and as highlighted below the costs are minimal. Finally , and potentially the most irritating for me, ( it is my pet hate) was the serving of HP and Tomato sauce in those little plastic tear off packets !!!! For a cafe that sells fair-trade coffee, has a large vegetarian selection and is in one of the most 'eco' publicised towns in Yorkshire , the serving of sauce in those in eco friendly, badly designed and constantly irritating packets is just not right. I'm not expecting white individual pots and a silver spoon, I would be happier with a traditional squeeze bottle , or even a non branded bottle with branded or homemade sauce. Those packets have no place anywhere in a society that looks after the environment. I know these points sound small, but they can all be fixed for little or no investment or costs and this kind of thing would propel this lovely cafe to the pinnacle with 5 stars. I would encourage everyone to go and enjoy a fabulous place , with amazing staff, and I will definitely be going back.

Brilliant for kids, with the big grassy area just outside to play on, as well as all the swings are rides in the park. Most of the cafes in the middle of Hebden serve horrible, badly made sandwiches that are lazily put together to make cash out of tourists. This place on the other hand is out there on its own for serving excellent food and drinks, and prices are great. They also do very nice ice creams for those endless summer days we get up here (ok, that bit isn't entirely true...!).Why aren't there more cafes like this? Go there!

Poor old Park Life Cafe got hammered in the floods. Thankfully it is back, better than ever, with new decor and menu. It's one of an increasing number of cafes in Hebden that are dog friendly, which is great if you're a dog owner/lover like me, though probably not so good if you're dog phobic... Good for kids too cos on a nice day they can run around outside. A favourite of cyclists and skaters. As the father of a 17 year old who has never ever eaten meat. I was taken by a menu that leads with an array of food that has been alive in a previous existence. Although my dietary needs are not quite so confined I always delight when the conscious eater is catered for before the lowest common denominator. There was plenty of choice for everyone and the feel was special without moving out the cafe in a park category. Charlie who was serving was friendly and informative again not what you expect in these types of eating joint.I had a special request and was granted it. Although I was unable to spend more time there I was delighted that I had been there and as I left with my take away I felt sure I would be back soon and often. Anyone who visits this lovely cafe will probably witness this on some level as there is a never ending stream of young people coming in for one thing or another.Yes, sometimes they get very busy (testament to the great food and drinks they serve!) and it is not a 'fast food' restaurant so, relax, enjoy the wonderful friendly ambience and wait a little longer, happy in the knowledge that you are supporting one of the most worthwhile endeavours in the Calderdale Valley!

Well what can I say, this little cafe has inspired me to write a review which I think speaks for itself. After coming over to visit friends from Manchester it wasn't long before we spotted the cafe tucked behind the tennis courts on the old bowling green. We have been a few times over the years and visited different places to eat and I feel this place is one I will return to over again. The young couple that run the cafe are friendly and conscientious, yes busy at times but I would much rather be sat in a busy cafe watching the world go by then fussed over by a business owner trying to squeeze every penny out of me! Everything is made fresh on the premises and the chutney on the Ploughperson's sandwich is LOVELY! (I am a bit of a chutney fiend...!) The coffee is rich, liquoricey, silky and bob on every time, which if you drink as much coffee as I in as many places you know that that is rare! Ask for a single shot if you like it more mild! The young people employed are brilliant, they are willing to learn and really put in the hard work at busy times, I think employing these young people is a testament to the employers that they are willing to invest in these peoples futures. Not only giving them responsibilities and valuable life skills to take forward in to anything they chose to do, but manners and confidence in their abilities. It makes me happy that not everybody has written young people off just yet! Let's watch them thrive not fail! And if by buying more coffee at Parklife contributes towards a future for them then that is where I will be going! The future prime minister could be making my coffee.......!Have I mentioned the ice-cream yet?! So many flavours and toppings. Ask the girl with the curly hair, she always seems to know the best flavours and combinations! I think they have some new ones in for this season that I am yet to try.....I cannot wait! Above all the location of the cafe is beautiful, maybe it is because I came over from the city but sitting outside on the ramp, feet on the grass, canal on one side river on the other, the lush smell of fresh air and nature, oh nature! I recommend this place to anybody with time to spare to sit and soak life in, relax, take a book or people watch. Lovely little families use the green to play out, couples with dogs, and friends of the cafe popping in to say hi. I have felt welcomed every time and they recognise me and appreciate my return custom, I am not faceless to this brilliant inspiring young couple who are doing an exceptional job.

we stopped in after walking dog after getting very wet. Other customers still sat waiting and service was slow.the main staff work hard but also employ school kids who chat to friends. Some food is reasonably cheap but others bit expensive for a quick snack. With dog you have to sit out in rain although under a shelter you do get wet a bit. Kids come and go with bikes along where your eating. Is nice the dog can run on the grass area while you eat/drink. Don't expect anything fancy but good for drink after playing in kids playarea or skatepark. Do range of hot and cold drinks. Be aware not always open at times it says

Small friendly cafe with quality food, owned by a creative and caring young couple. Great cafe during the Summer owing to the fact that there is lots of space outside with tables and chairs on the old bowling green. Highly recommended.

Parklife cafe is such a delightful place to visit, situated on Calder Holme Park. It has beautiful scenery all around, in every season and it's really lovely being able to sit outside with a coffee and listen to the children play and the river run by you, while watching the trees sway in the breeze. The owners, Kim and Charlie are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. The food is exquisite, and the coffees are devine, all fairtrade, organic and sourced locally. It's also all made fresh and to suit your requirements. Definitely a place to visit and relax at!

Perfect spot for a caff. Food and drink looked nice but unfortunately did not get to sample. Staff did not even acknowledge my presence after a significant wait at the counter, turned their back on me, talked to their friends over me and responded rudely when I dared to ask what drinks were available. So walked out - and won't be returning - ever.

a really great place to sit as it is in the middle of the park, next to what used to be the bowling green. fantastic if you have children, we sometimes take them after school they can run about safely within view but without bothering any other customers. food is straightforward but well thought out to cater for different tastes. two very nice young people running it.

Ordered a 3 course meal, after waiting 20 mins between main and dessert, asked the waitress.....it gets put 'on hold' till you actually ask for it.....not a problem if you are au fait with this rule.

Service was quick. The food was very nice with good-sized portions. There's also a small farm shop with a variety of products at good prices.
