The vegetables where too eldenty for me , (our personal preference), my wife who is in hospitality said the same

Called in without booking for Sunday dinner. No problem, there is capacity for walk in guests. Excellent food for meat eaters and veggies. Large portions with a good selection of veggies, Yorkshire pud, roast and mash potatoes.

A group of us visited on a Friday night. Arriving at the restaurant for a pre-booked table we were told we’d have to go back to the bar to check in. So we went and queued at the bar. By the time we were served others had arrived, so we checked in, purchased drinks and returned to the dining room where we were told that it hadn’t come through. Eventually we were seated. Ordering started, I informed the waitress that I was allergic to onions but would like prawn cocktail and fish and chips, she said she’d go and check if the batter had onion powder in it. She came back after nearly 10 minutes and informed be that I could have the prawn cocktail but no sauce, no offer of an alternative so I opted not to have a starter. She then took everyone else’s order and after about 20 minutes the starters came out. One person asked what the soup of the day was, again the waitress didn’t know and had to go and ask. After another 40 to 50 minutes main courses were served. Despite saying I didn’t want peas 3 times I got peas. The fish was lovely but the batter was overdone. The service was very slow considering there were only 3 tables occupied (1x4 and 2x2). The staff were friendly but not very helpful. It was sad to see the Nags so quiet in the restaurant and the pub compared to the past when it would be heaving. The Nags could learn lessons in customer service from the Stretton Fox which is the same group.

Welcoming and friendly restaurant. We arrived after a long day of travelling in a car. We checked into our hotel next door and headed straight here for dinner. Upon entering the staff were very friendly and interacted with us and our children straight away, entertaining my 2 year old by saying hiya every time he did. Our order was promptly taken and food arrived quickly. My partner ordered the pie, I ordered the chicken burger and my soon had a pizza from the kids menu. All tasted delicious and was good value for money. We were then offered the dessert menu, we ordered the crème brûlée and the honeycomb dome, the presentation of the dome was fantastic and both desserts tasted great. Our main thought about the restaurant however was how great and accommodating the staff are, we would like to say particular thanks to Michael and Leah, both are a credit to the restaurant.

Service slow, food lovely but over priced

We came here on Saturday night for a meal after googling the best place to eat in Huddersfield. Only 10 mins drive from our premier inn central where we were staying for work. We had the lamb with the red wine jus which was beautifully cooked and the drinks were lovely along with their staff.

There was no meringue in the dessert just fruit and masses of cream. I only order this because I like the meringue

Happened upon this pub whilst up in Huddersfield for the weekend. A beautifully presented pub with plenty of choice of drinks. Also dog friendly. The food was superb, the best we've had in quite some time. The service staff were brilliant and welcoming, Leah was our server and she was first class, very attentive without being overbearing, easy to talk to and answered any questions we had. If we ever go back up that way we'll be sure to pop in again.

Nice place, clean and inviting. Pleasant staff good menu, tasty food and good bar selection. Very pleased and would recommend.

The whole experience was excellent, the food was more or less priced at "pub grub" level but the quality was several notches above that. The staff were attentive & polite & the building was clean tidy & welcoming, it was a comfortable environment which made me want to stay longer. The only (slightly) negative comments I would make are that the ashtrays outside do need emptying & wiping quite often (the one at our table was full) & on a personal level it irritates me to pay £4.40 for a pint of real ale but hey ho I will get over it!

Food was late (supposed to be here at 7:45pm), kept the poor driver waiting for an hour in the restaurant, when it finally arrived (9:05pm) the food was room temperature at best. Ordered cheesy garlic bread, did not have cheese.

I've never needed to find a dog friendly restaurant till my brother announced a surprise trip to Huddersfield this weekend. He took me out for a meal for my 50th birthday. I'm so glad I picked the Nag's Head! My brother, SIL and nephew live in Oxford. Which has loads of dog friendly pub restaurants in the picturesque outskirts. They were blown away by the selection and quality of the food, the ambience etc. The steaks were perfectly cooked. The lamb rump was delicious. But the thing that really stunned them was the fact that dog friendly MEANT dog friendly and not just dog tolerating. Water bowls, treats etc for the little princess. It gave me a smug Northern glow that, in their eyes, the Nag's Head offered the same standard of food they'd expect in Oxfordshire, but at slightly lower price and with better customer (and doggy) service. Keep it up!

Was looking for a place to eat near Fixby and a Google lead us here. Not a huge menu but plenty to choose from and what we ordered (pie of the day) was exceptional. Reasonably priced too. Plenty of seating and I imagine quite the sun trap outside on a good day. Would recommend!

TLDR: Lovely, dog-friendly and homely place to drink and eat from an ever-popular Vintage Inn brand. Great food and drink and a lovely atmosphere. Away from the main roads, but next to the motorway (so you can hear the hum of that when outside) is this lovely pub! Step in and you feel like you’re in a modern Yorkshire pub. There’s decent ales, cocktails and wines on offer, lots of choice. Theres bar snacks aplenty and then there’s the main food. The layout is comprised of three main areas: Bar with ample seating, casual dining Mid restaurant near an open fire (closer to the bar, more casual) Main restaurant in the converted barn (slightly more formal, but still casual) The food is superb, especially for the price. Expect around £20-£30 a head with a simple drink (don’t be saying I didn’t get the average right when you’re buying a £10 cocktail too 😂) The Arancini is a lovely starter full of flavour, and so is the garlic button mushroom dish. The penang curry with chicken or whatever you like actually is flavoursome, fruity, and floral with the jasmine rice. Steaks are always cracking quality for the price, as is gammon and fish and chips. For desert, we’ve had brownie, crumbles, ice creams…all of them actually. The flower pot is fun and novel and very tasty too! Don’t forget to get the app and collect rewards; they are good (like £10 off food after two visits!) Hopefully you found this helpful! This is a vintage Inn with a loyalty card and good discount. Good food but could do with bigger choice menu. Service was a bit slow. Overall, it was a good experience and would go again. After 4 visits on the loyalty card, spend 60 pounds and get 30 pounds off.

Friendly pub and restaurant. Though not eaten for many years, we have recently been walking and conveniently included the nags head in the walk. Staff have always been friendly when serving, good seating inside and outside.

Love this place... The vibe, the staff, the food... All amazing. It's a gem of a place. Anytime Im in Huddersfield and someone asks where we're going for food.... It's always here. The building is mint and the interior rustic and on point. It's casual and comfy.

The food was sublime!!! Staff were great. And the overall ambiance really nice. Only minor complaint was I asked for my meal without Yorkshire puds and potatoes in exchange for extra meat, but didn’t get any extra meat. (I recommend the beef Sunday dinner - the gravy is sublime).

This is the second time we've eaten here and both times the food has been excellent, freshly cooked and really tasty. We normally have our dogs with us and are allowed to eat in the bar area. Reasonable selection of drinks available. Very handy for access to the M62

Meeting up with friends before attending another function. We needed a quick lunch and a drink. Menu was perfect for this. Lovely service. All food great for our party of 9. Only small criticism is that ladies toilets need small refurbish. Also had a big car park.

I believe our waitress was keely and she was lovely. she was thorough, made sure our orders were correct and that we were all happy with our food and made sure we were all set. Get ready to stare at your phone for 20 minutes doing your own online ordering using their horrendous website. We had a table for six and had to order drinks online and then all the food using a slow website. And this is not technology phobia, I am a software engineer iny day job and am well used to dealing with technology. But when I go for a meal I would rather browse and discuss the menu with my family Instead of this silly self service.

Had Sunday Lunch, great service but food was disappointing. It was just lukewarm which I commented on and it came back slightly warmer after being in the microwave. The vegetables seemed freshly cooked but the potatoes must have been cooked earlier, so they were warmed up and dry. The Yorkshire pudding was also warmed up and was very soft. The gravy was nice and plenty of it. The crumble for pudding was uncooked on top and only just warm. Unfortunately I will not be going back in a hurry !
