Wow! What a fantastic meal. Pappadams isn’t your usual Indian restaurant. Its’ pared- back, simple interior belies the beauty and sophistication of the dishes on the menu. Don’t be put off by its somewhat sparse interior since the welcome is as warm as the dishes are fine. This is an Indian restaurant of the first rank. We came here as a group of eight for a post work meal and were amazed at the variety on offer. Every thing has a fresh and exciting twist, from the relishes accompanying the warm poppadoms to the braised meats of the main courses. Alongside the familiar favourites there are some really interesting options beautifully made and presented. We had a mixture of vegetarian and meat dishes where the standouts here was the chicken biryani, exquisitely spiced and beautifully moist, and the mutton curry - the sauce was amazing alongside the freshly baked naans. We had a wonderful night and left full and happy and so will you.

My partner and I fancied trying something different and we’ve had Pappadams in the past so we thought we’d call up and order for collection. The lady on the phone was lovely, said it would be around 20 mins. We got there and the lady was so welcoming when we walked in! My partner forgot to mention about wanting an onion salad and she was on the case to get us some, we asked a few general questions about the chef and restaurant itself as we would like to dine in at some point but wanted to get a feel of the restaurant first. It’s small but the layout is perfect, clean and overall design is cosy! The food was spot on, rices were fresh, curries were the perfect spice, naan bread was the best part. I also tried something different, the chilli paneer was so tasteful and had a nice sweet taste to it. Loved everything about it and will be returning.

My husband and I went for a meal as a last minute Thursday dinner out. We hadn’t visited before but saw it had really good reviews. The staff were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We had the vegetarian platter to start (after popadoms, of course) which was really yummy. We had the prawn masala, Dahl and a chicken Dhabi all of which were really nice. The menu has a really wide variety of choice. Really enjoyed and would definitely return.

I have tried all the non vegetarian indian restaurants in reading, Papadoms is miles ahead better than any off the others don’t be like me originally put off by the outside decor, when inside you receive a warm welcome from Robbie and his lovely family, the food is 5 stars plus having eaten there for the past 9 months weekly i would look nowhere else the price is within keeping with the other non vegetarian indian restaurants but the food towers above

What a place this is! We were regulars until five years ago when we moved 160 miles away. In Reading yesterday for the first time in ages, and meeting a pal, it had to be a return to Pappadams for lunch. We ate lightly - no gut-busting blowout this time - but the quality was right up there; simply lovely authentic cooking and cheerful attentive service. Owner Robbie and his family should take a bow: Pappadams remains right at the top of its game.

In truth, we only went here because we couldn't get into one of the two Weatherspoons in the area. What a blessing that turned out to be. The service was second to none; no rushing us to order, updating us on how long our order would be, and we noticed that they were catering to the individual needs of each party. The food was, in my wife's words, Absolutely stunning. She said hers was the best vegetarian Indian meal she's had. Can't remember the name of what I had (no 55 on the menu) but it was spicy and tasty. The meat felt like it had been slow cooked, it was so soft. The pilau rice was fluffy and the peshwari naan was done to perfection. My wife commented that the only problem with the place is that isn't in South Wales, where we live. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area and should we find ourselves back in Reading at some point, we will probably return.

A relaxed atmosphere, just minutes away from the more frenetic town centre, with friendly staff and tasty, well spiced and authentic tasting food. I enjoyed my veggie biryani although am used to a separate veggie curry so it seemed slightly dry for my taste. There are plenty of meat and veggie options and the menu could benefit from more descriptions. About £20/head for pappadams, main with a side and a beer including tip and I certainly will return.

The place was full at 8.30pm last night, great that I booked a table in advance! Says a lot about the food. They have a good variety of food and the waiters know their menu really well and recommend the correct dishes as per your preference! My favourite was Dhaba Chicken, which is a spicy onion-tomato based curry and they made it extra spicy for us! Lovely kerala parotas and a well balanced Pepper chicken. I would pass on the seekh kebabs and mutton samosas- nothing great there. Commendable service! I would definitely come again!

Luckily I didn't eat my food, my son did and was unwell when we returned home he visited the toilet many times through till next day lunchtime. The wine was undrinkable. We paid up even though I didn't eat my food, it would have been foolish not to do so. The worst experience of my life, I was frightened and intimidated!!!

It's a small cafe style restaurant, not somewhere to make an evening of, but superb if you want to stop in before or after going out, for a really tasty, fresh bite to eat with bags of flavour and a pleasant welcome. We popped in as seen good reviews and wasn't disappointed, it was quite late and ended up being the last in there but they didn't rush us. There were a few diners finishing up and all were Asian, which I think is a good sign of good Indian food. Ample portions, shashlick, beautiful chicken and one of the best I've tasted, chana masala, spicy and not bright red, as I've had in other restaurants, biryani served in copper pot and plenty with lots of fresh spices, one minor thing was it was lacking chicken, few pieces, but not enough£35 for two with a bottle of wine, which I thought was pretty decent. Would defo go back as thought food was darn good.

We eat here at least once a month and they know how we like our food...tasty and spicy. The portion size is perfect, however we do like to order four curries and two parathas so we are always stuffed. If you want a bit of buzz and a kick then its not the place you would want to go. The Paneer karai was almost sweet. The portions were tiny and prices are a little unscaled compared to what you would pay for a decent Indian restaurant in Reading. The service was extremely poor, the waiter took our order whilst walking around, talking to other colleagues and clearing nearby tables without saying "excuse me", "thank you" or "sorry". Our main course was delayed and once the food was on our table at no point we were asked if the food was okay or we needed anything else. The waiter was clearly overloaded with work and lacked manners, the service received was indeed was indeed very much in-line with Indian standards. I'm giving one star for the attempted effort by kitchen staff but apart from that there's nothing that will make us return.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Reading - and there are several good ones. Tasty, beautifully spiced dishes and unusual curries that you won't find elsewhere. Reasonably priced wine and good for vegetarians.

I confess myself incredibly surprised after my first trip to Pappadams two weeks ago. The little restaurant on King's Street has always, to me, seemed dwarfed in size by some of the larger local Indians - namely Miah's, House of Flavours, Channai Dosa, and Royal Tandoori, all of which are easily twice the size of this little restaurant, and when walking past it has always appeared relatively empty. Instead of North Indian, or South Indian, or Bangladeshi, or anything else that the rest of the Indian restaurants advertise, Pappadams' key selling point is that they serve food from all over the subcontinent; with a nifty little map telling you where each dish originates.First impressions on entry were not great, mainly due to the service which continued to lack throughout our meal. A few tables were occupied, and I asked the waiter who greeted us for a table for two. Barely acknowledging us, he grunted and gestured towards one next to the bar. He only gave us one menu, leaving us to wander the restaurant ourselves in search of a second. Thankfully, when the time came to choose our food, it was a different waiter who took the order."Are you sure, sir? This dish is very spicy." I was warned when ordering my black pepper chicken. Excellent, that was exactly what I wanted, and we settled down to wait. The wait was not long; actually I may even say the dishes came too quickly, as we had not yet even began to get comfortable and enjoy our wine bottle. The egg fried rice was good, and the naan excellent; so feverantly I sampled the curry to gauge how spicy it really was.It was fiery and hot, but not too uncomfortably so; exactly the perfect level of spice for me at present. The chicken was delicious, and the sauce mind blowingly superb. In terms of spiciness, this was probably one of the most enjoyable Indian meals I have eaten - even ranking up there with my personal favourite, the Raja Makhani Chooza at Miah's, but only that this one has more of a kick!My partner enjoyed her korma, but she claims that she has had better - mainly due to the texture. The dish did seem more sauce than curry to me, but personally I found the taste to be just as good as any korma I have ever had. The bill came, and was not too unreasonable, though they do offer a lunch menu for better value. If it were just the food I was judging, this restaurant would be a five star without question; but even when paying and leaving the staff seemed distant and cold. The unwelcoming introduction and marginally poor service we received in total plummets the restaurant down to a lowly four.

Wow - what a great find, thanks t trip advisor. Agree with other reviews that the establishment is not a posh upmarket place. However the food was great. Customer service really good too. Would highly recommend if you want good honest Indian food and if you'd prefer not to sit in a swanky upmarket place. Great value for money and nothing was too much trouble.

This place has such an unassuming exterior. I happened upon it because of the lunch menu one day. It is a real high quality eating establishment. The food is full of flavour. I haven't had a disappointing meal there yet (and I go there loads!)It is by far the best place I've eaten at in Reading. I take all visiting family and friends. The food is special enough for important occasions. I absolutely love pappadams!

Every time we stay in Reading we are sure not to miss this fantastic restaurant. No other way to describe it other than totally delicious. After dining here we are inevitably in pain for eating way too much.

Don't judge a book by its cover. The restaurant is simply decorated and quite small, don't let this put you off - the focus is on quality, delicious food and excellent friendly service. There is plenty of choice across the menu, with a fair few dishes you won't find elsewhere. The staff were attentive and came to take our order/clear the table at just the right times. Food came out beautifully presented, at just the right temperature and while initially I thought portions a bit small, there was plenty enough. Everyone in our party was more than satisfied and we resolved to return as soon as possible.

The restaurant is small and probably not very posh, but the food is tasty and genuine. The service is also good.Price is adequate, probably cheap considering quality/price ratio in the London surroundings.

My family and I have eaten here twice now and both times have been very impressed with the food. It is a small restaurant and the exterior and decor is a bit tired, but don't let that put you off. The service is very good and all dishes we tried from vegetarian to meat dishes were all great. A great find!!

A friend recommended Pappadums when we decided to celebrate his new job. It proved an excellent choice. We started with some splendidly spicy lamb chops and some hara bharah kebabs, followed by equally tasty methi lamb and chicken sagwala with chana masala, rice and bread. We were absolutely stuffed afterwards, but in a nice way. This place is a real find and even on a midweek evening was bustling with curry aficionados. I'm undoubtedly going to do an Arnie.

I went here for take out food and the staff was super friendly, I asked for their recommendations and they recommended their favorites even warning me it was spicy which I love. One of the best house side salads I've had with lots of fresh veggies and variety. overall great value and great food from this place.

I ordered a delivery, it has taken over an hour to be delivered. If you can't handle home delivery don't take the order. Shame really, the restaurant is usually spot on. I doubt I will order a takeaway again. Still use the restaurant but definitely no takeaway.

A very classy nice Indian takeaway in Liphook. A warm welcoming, followed by an excellent service, with a lot of attention to details on order to please you. The service always with a smile and very patient with us. I love Indian food, and have not been able to find a local Indian restaurant that I really like until now. The lamb biryani was delicious, as was the Tandoori chicken. Very excited about this place Conclusion, if you have the opportunity to go eat there, do not hesitate !
