Papas Fish and Chips in Bassetlaw

Very poor value for money. Chips were scraps & thin. Lots of bad ones with black in them. Fish had no taste & very greasy. Presentation left a lot to be desired.

Good place for a meal out. Very good quality fish and chips in the restaurant but beware the price of drinks is expensive. I was charged £1.95 for can of soft drink ! Now that’s extortionate.

For fish and chips a very expensive place. Make sure your drinks come with the meal, not before. £1,26 for a small can of coke, this soon adds up if there are three of you. Watch out for extras waiting for your meal.

Absolutely disgusting. The chips were almost green with grey, they were all scrappy and stuck together. This chippy used to have lovely chips so no idea what happened! Won't be going again 😒

I have used this restaurant intermittently for 10 years. In the beginning it was a very nice restaurant and take away. Since it has changed owners about five years ago it has steadily gone down hill and I am afraid to say that I won’t use it again as the prices have increased and the quality is not what it used to be. The last few visits have left me very disappointed.

Had a lovely walk so we had earnt a treat. Phoned papa's to book our lunch. On arrival the booking system is fantastic we were served promptly which is always a plus. When we got home our journey took about 3 minutes the food was still piping hot. We tucked in and barely spoke as the food was delicious. We both had fish and chips the fish was chunky white and very tasty. The large bag of chips was huge glad we opted to share even then our plates were overflowing. We both ate every delicious mouthful. Very good value for money. So to sum up. Fantastic service, delicious food and excellent value for money. Thank you

Getting good fish and chips in Worksop is not the simple task it once was, before Dawson's went really down hill. Papa's is no better or worse than anywhere else in town. Portions were massive and service was good. The last time we had Papa's my wife spewed it all up and gave birth 6 hours later. Thankfully there was no repeat of those antics on this occassion.

Have been pondering whether to leave a review but I feel I have. Used to love this place however ordered from them this week via yo-yo app. I ordered kebab meat and chips on a tray and my husband had pie chips. Ordered for a specific time, driver turned up an hour early and the kebab meat was sliced that thinly that I couldn’t even taste it. I know times are hard at the moment but don’t put your prices up and cut your portions down. Very disappointed, won’t be ordering from Papas Fish bar again!!

Safe to visit with Covid and staff so helpful and friendly. Phoned our order through, paid for it over the phone and the food was brought out to our car. The food is always excellent here and the staff can’t do enough for you. I would thoroughly recommend this venue.

It’s worth travelling that extra mile to Papas. Good quality fish, well cooked and served with delicious chips and mushy peas, what could be better! The place itself is always spotlessly clean, and staff who are also very attentive.

Some of the staff seem lovely...but guy with the walkie talkie....RUDE!!!!! Average food- Soggy fish. WONT return.

Absolutely fantastic Fish. Really fresh and pearly white with brilliant batter, crispy and cooked through. The service is also brilliant your order is brought to your car and ensures social distancing rules are not only met but are exceeded.We travel 15 miles to get to Papas. Over the lockdown period we have tried lots of fish & chip outlets but all except Papa's have no idea how to make and cook batter. It's is therefore so wonderful to find perfection.

This place is 100 per cent fantastic ! Absolutely love coming here , it always smells like the seaside and the food is absolutely gorgeous ! I’ve always had a fantastic meal from it and it’s such great value ! All the staff are super friendly too :-)I would definitely recommend this place to anybody !

Visited recently (again) and noticed they still have the same policy of not allowing you to sit in the comfy area of the resaurant. Its blocked off with chairs across it. The other area with comfy chairs has permanent 'reserved' on them. Crazy! If they dont want people to enjoy their outing just put a sign on front door saying so. I know several people who (like myself) restict their visits because of this crazy policy.Shame because the food is excellent.

When you enter a fish and chip shop you don’t expect to be charged for fish and chips and then be told you have to wait! If the items are not cooked or available don’t charge for them. When asked for money back was informed “.wont be long” by a rude member of staff - staff used to be amazing, unfortunately not on this occasion and now lost a customer.After witnessing staff messing around and gossiping rather than actually serving this was not a way to retain customers.Last time I will visit this place - plenty of fish and chip shops who actually have products ready to be served.

Cant understand why they stop customers using the comfy seats. Last two years of visiting its always same, one area got seats blocking access, with 'reserverd' on the tables in the adjacent room. Suspect its because these areas are carpeted and they take longer to clean. This poor customer experience stops me from visiting as much as i would like. Food is good, pity about not being able to sit on the comfy seats.

Our friends recommended this place so I had to have cod and chips. It was a big portion and tasted delicious so good. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the staff were good fun. Well worth popping in if you are passing and that way.

Throughout the football season, we are up and own the A1 almost every other week. Worksop is great stopping point for us and we have spent a good few years trying out the routine fayre at the chain pubs dotted around the town - driving past Papa's almost each time with the passing comment of... ONE DAY..... Well that day arrived, Saturday we were a bit earlier than usual and were just discussing which establishment was going to get our dollars when we came upto Papas. In a rush of blood we turned into the large car park (noting it has opened at 11am) and within minutes sat in a the nice clean restaurant with menus in our hands. Very cheery staff, you just got a good feeling about the place (first impressions are so important), slightly OCD in that as it was not busy (3 other customers who I assume were taking full advantage of the "over 65 menu") - the staff were busy wiping things down. I will be honest I am not the world biggest chip fan, I love fish but a portion of fat chippy chips is usually more than double what I want and they do nothing for me other than fill a hole. I had a cod and chips which was cooked to order . The fish was excellent, very fleshy and neatly prepared not smashed on the plate like you expect in Skegness. I ordered a side of beans (I wanted Peas but said Beans) and thinking back to the Skeggy experience feared the worst - I was protesting with myself that I should change the order as batter drenched in bean juice is revolting, but the beans arrived in a large pot on the plate. Going back to the chips, although I had to give in, I don't think I have enjoyed a portion for a long time. Cooked perfectly. So we will be back, not every other week as I think we will spoil the experience unless we have burgers etc. As worksop is a kind of halfway between home and my former home time, we have even discussed getting family together pre-christmas and booking a table for the annual "present passing"

I ordered Haddock and chips, the fish was OK, but the chips were very bitty, whilst some could have been cooked more, others looked like they had been reheated. Not sure if I was unlucky and just caught them on a bad day.

We discovered this fish n chips shop on a Google search, as we have ciloac desease. Can't rate them enough so good, crispy batter and fluffy white cod absolutely yummy. Try them and see you will like them too.

Visited during a recent holiday to get a take away for the family.

Just called for 2 portions of regular cod and chips. When we got home we were shocked at the small size of fish. It was half the size it usually is with a lot less chips. Always go here and get a box full of lovely food but not today.

Love it here at Papas. We're so lucky to have a wonderful fish and chip restaurant. We've eaten in and had take out many times, always delicious. It's a busy and popular restaurant and the team work so hard. Special mention to Sky, she's adorable and works so hard. Makes lovely fishcakes too. Yummy food. Highly recommended.

Don’t usually go to this chip shop as it’s out the way but went tonight as I was passing, gentleman in the white shirt that served me this evening, absolute credit to the company, gentleman that made my food while I waited amazing guy, everyone took so much pride in their work. Food was top notch and presentation lovely, my only point would be the third guy who was just cleaning, when I returned to my car he had the same gloves on driving his car to the front, I’m guessing he wouldn’t have been touching the food after, at least I hope not, other than that, I will be returning for more excellent food and service :)

This is our local chippi and the food is absolutely amazing . Always gorgeous fish and proper chips . Would not go anywhere else . And the staff are always cheerful and ready to help .

First time visit today with my family. Food was excellent, chips were arguably the best I’ve ever had. Special mention for Tracey who served us today, she was great with my 2 nephews(4 and 2). If there is an employee of the month award then Tracey should get it for the lovely way she treated the boys. Happened upon this beautiful fish & chip restaurant in Worksop, Papas of Worksop. Now I am a fish and chip connoisseur and love my fish and chips. I have tasted fish and chips from John o 'groats to Lands-end and and Papas of Worksop fish and chips are definitely among my top favourites in both taste,quality and value for money. The restaurant is beautifully clean and the staff are extremely accommodating and friendly.

We asked Nick over 2yrs ago if we could hold our wedding reception in the Papa's restaurant as it had everything we were looking for;

First time visit here as we normally use Jimmys but is closed on Monday's so we gave this a try and was impressed. We ordered takeaway of large cod & chips which was cooked fresh and a cheeseburger. The fish was hugh and was served with plenty if chips it was very nice and not at all greasy, my son was impressed with the burger. Overall very pleased and will be back.

The fish and chip meals were all delicious, lots of chips given with the beautiful fish. Good service even though it was extremely busy. My friend had chilly and chips and was disappointed though as it was like bolognase and chips, not chilli.

We came here on a cold and wet Saturday morning with the Sherwood Racing Jaguars to present a cheque for £71,929.50 to BlueBell Wood Hospice. The staff could not have been nicer.

A friend told us about this gem and we were really impressed by the beautiful batter, huge portions and great service. I was impressed by the many portion options: everything from a mini to a whale! iThe staff are so helpful and cheerful. We will certainly come back again soon.

Papa's is a good place to call in for good value, quality fish and chips etc. Had the steak(posh) pie today with amazing chips and mushy peas and enjoyed it. The menu is extensive and the portion sizes are plentiful. The restaurant is always very clean. It was quite a warm day outside and yet it was pleasantly cool inside the restaurant which pleased me.

We have been several times and honestly cannot fault this place!!Last night we had the medium cod and chip which was absolutely delicious (the only thing we regret is that we should have ordered the large though).Staff was welcoming and friendly as always .

Bought the 5mini fish 2 chips and 2 small sides deal only to get back home sharing it out, the chips are absolutely disgusting and have never had them like this, both sets of chips were well done and nearly burnt! They were the scabbiest set of chips!!! Appalled by this absolutely appalled

First time at Papas, attending with extended family for a Saturday lunch.

I came in recently to get some food on my dinner break. The blonde woman who served me was so miserable i was shocked. She never even smiled once, seemed more annoyed to serve if anything. Then a dark haired woman came out to serve and she was the same! Honestly this place is getting unfriendlier each time i visit. The food is ok but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Ate here last night, they have a great selection of fish (and non fish) options, including grilled cod, salmon or tuna.

Having been to Papas restaurant at Willerby near Hull where we had a great experience. Great atmosphere, beautiful fish & chips and great service, our visit to Papas at Worksop tonight was such a disappointment. There is no atmosphere, the service was poor and the chips were absolutely rubbish. I have never been known to leave chips before but I did tonight.won't be going again soon!

Food quality as really dropped off the last few months especially the Fish, even the kids have commented.

It was great to have a day at the cinema and finishing of by visiting the Takeaway side of Papa's and being able to take home a tremendous Fish and Chips with such fantastic batter and chips to die for. Both mum and I are Coeliac and they were a dream.

We've eaten in the restaurant and used the take away facilities, food is always delicious. staff are all very polite and kind. a must go to, a must try for those who haven't been to Papa's before!

Was recommended this fish and chip shop by a friend. Having passed this every day one the way to and from work it was rude not to have a nibble.

We usually visit the sit down restaurant on a Saturday lunch and have the special, fish ,chips ,mushy peas,bread and butter and a pot of tea.

My visit here today was the first since September. The fish and chips were freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. I can recommend the baby fish and chips for anyone only wanting a small meal .The hot chocolate with whipped cream was lovely. I am not an expert on hot chocolate but it tasted of very good quality to me. Could have done with a saucer though, so I had somewhere to put my spoon. Had not seen any of the staff before but they were all very pleasant and obviously very well-trained. A minor point for anyone who has not been before the salt and pepper pots have large holes so I would take care when using them. It would be easy to sprinkle too much salt and pepper on your meal.

Since I was in last the prices have shot up. Very good service and the fish was first class but oh dear the chips! I ordered a large chips and the quantity was good but the quality was, to be diplomatic, poor. Very few whole square chips, just a lot of small odds and ends and triangular chips as well and sue to their size were overcooked.

The staff here are so helpful and friendly, I go with friends often and always receive great service and food, can highly recommend. Looking forward to returning soon. Really enjoy the mini fish and the fish cakes

The restaurant was quiet the service was efficient and friendly. The food was perfectly cooked just what we needed after returning from a long wet dark drive home from Birmingham airport. Nothing like fish and chips when you are feeling down. We had taken our daughter and fiance to the airport for them to go home after spending Christmas with us.

Absolutely amazing fish and chips, highly recommend, staff made a real fuss of our daughter which made our visit even more special, nothing was too much trouble, will definitely be visiting again

Normally have food from Kenny's chippy but the portions are now small. Tried papas down the road and found the food excellent. Good portions and taste nice. Easy parking outside. Will use more often when in Worksop.

Had an excellent gluten free fish, chips and peas. One of the nicest takeaways I've eaten. Nice choices on the menu, everything lovely and fresh. Fish is amazing!

After leaving a less than favourable review thought would give papas another chance is there another Papas in Worksop that many rave about as I am totally lost as to why??? Can I say the staff the cleanliness was absolutely 10 out 10 however the food left us feeling very let down fish average chips ..... No comment fish cakes no taste very sorry not for us

Called in today for 2 baby fish, chips and mushy peas as an alternative Sunday lunch. An absolute bargain at less than £6! I do not eat fish and chips that often these days and I am not one for raving about fish and chips either but I am raving about the food here. Everything was hot and freshly cooked and the fish was probably the whitish fish I have ever seen. Beautiful. My meal was impeccable and so was the service as usual. There is a lovely choice of hot and cold drinks to accompany your meal. Not got around to trying a dessert... I am too full to try one after a main course here! Thank you to the staff.

Papa's fish restaurant's are by far the best fish shops around. We visit here most months. This one is really nicely set out well roomy it's decoration is well keep its clean, there is also a take away aswell if you want to do that. There is plenty of parking on site it's a way out of town so you will have to drive if your that way on. The fish is well nice really white and fresh my wife has the fish pie which she loves there is always plenty. The batter is nice and crispy not like some restaurants where it is thick with no fish. It's well priced and not expensive to sit in the drinks are reasonably priced. I highly recommend a visit here or to any papa's fish shops.

We went for tea with my elderly parents my husband & myself.Parents had Pensioners special haddock chips mushy peas bread & butter & a cup of tea husband had cod & I had plaice.The food was excellent & the staff wee fantastically helpful & polite.The restaurant is spotless with staff continually cleaning windows surfaces & floors.Highly recommended

We have been searching for a quality fish and chip restaurant so we looked 'online' and were impressed with the reviews and as it was after all national fish and chip day so we took a short drive to PaPas emporium and were first impressed by the ample parking space and frontage. The restaurant itself was large and immaculate and very busy. We were seated and served very promptly. The waitress was very friendly and efficient.The menu was extensive and offered a varied selection including wines and spirits and a good selection of beers and ciders. The menu included a varied choice of 'first courses' and I selected 'Spanish onion rings in batter.They were served with a fabulous garlic dip.My wife and I both chose 'cod and chips' for our main meal and again were pleased by the quality of the meal and the efficient service. At last it seems we have discovered a gem. We will certainly become regulars to PaPas.

been lots of times, but tonight will be the last. Absolutely underwhelmed with the fish it was dry and grey not like the usual fresh succulent tasty fish I've been used to. The waiting staff were as always very polite and when I was asked wether I'd enjoyed my meal and told them they were very apologetic. They went to tell the owner/ manager who's reply was no well else had complained !! Well that's no acceptable !! Sometimes things aren't acceptable and you must accept so. We have always enjoyed the meals we have had but shall go elsewhere. Thanks John

After a 6 mile walk I know fish and chips is not the usual Sunday lunch having sampled the delights of Papas takeaway many times thought why not should have thought no don't! !!! After a 25 wait and being subjected to music blasting out while we waited made our way home to tuck in ..... Sorry to all the Papas fans chips terrible, cold, bad went in the bin fish batter soggy Will not return any time soon

My visit here last week was a very pleasant experience. In fact I would say everything was faultless. The reason I wish to submit another review is to tell everyone about the "posh pie". I do not consider it to be posh pie. I think the term is used to differentiate between the less expensive lower quality pies that can be bought in some shops and catering outlets and a good old fashioned well-made pie. To me it was like homemade - beautiful pastry of perfect thickness, a good meat filling, accompanied by fabulous chips and mushy peas and a welcome jug of gravy. I would gladly order it again.

Went for tea taking elderly parents, good fish and chips. Friendly helpful staff. The restaurant is very clean, will certainly go again.

On December 9th 2016 we visited here and received amazing customer service from Paula. We came with our six week old daughter and she was very upset and very sick whilst we were there. I couldn't of asked for a more understanding member of staff she helped me sort out changing her and calming her down. She made sure our food was kept warm for us and when we could eat it she held our daughter so I could enjoy my fish and chips warm.She made us feel welcome and helped calm a new mum down it takes a village to raise a child and on that day she became part of our village.So Thank you again for your help and I can highly recommend the fish and chips the best around here.

Very clean, newly decorated restaurant, friendly staff and efficient service.We went here having been recommended. The menu is brilliant and we chose the pensioners special, an excellent deal.The haddock and plaice were a good size, the batter and mushy peas were excellent.Our only disappointment was the chips. They were brown as though previously cooked and the potatoes used seemed rather scabby. Saw a few other plates and some takeaways looking similar so it wasn't just my helping of chips.Won't be returning!

We used to go here all the time, but recently, past few months been dissapointed with quality of fish. Seems to be thinner compared to other fish shops and more batter on to make it look larger when it is served. Overall quality is ok, just value for money I think is better elsewhere.

First visit to this restaurant and I was highly delighted, the fish is cooked fresh whilst you sit at your table in a very pleasant atmosphere and good hygiene all around. we just called in for a quick lunch before going to a Christmas Fayre, it was obvious that this is a popular restaurant and has many regular customers.

This was my first visit here for quite some time. The décor was bright and light and very welcoming. It looked freshly painted. The menu was very extensive and the food I chose was delicious. Fish pie was brilliant, chips very good and very hot. The side salad was enormous and very appetizing unlike the apology for a side salad in a few places I have visited. Only down side, you have to be 65 to qualify for a smaller meal for seniors and I would have liked to have ordered a smaller meal but I am not 65 yet! Any chance of changing it to 60?This restaurant made a good impression me. In the past I thought it to be a bit dark but now it has been done up it is so much better. Worth a try if you have not been there for a while.

Usually go at dinner to takeaway really enjoy are one of the best. Took my husband to the resturant the fish and chips where really good and you wouldn't be disappointed. Can well recommend either restaurant or takeaway

called at papas take away. only ordered chips this time. i ordered the large portion and large it was too!!...but the best thing was they were soooo tasty mmmmm.i did notice how full the restaurant was.so looks like we will be eating in next time

Papa's is an excellent Fish & Chip Restaurant. Simply can't understand the previous 2 reviews. (this is a review of the restaurant not the take away as we haven't tried the take away side.)We love our fish & Chips and are very discerning. We have eaten in virtually all such restaurants in the region (North Derbyshire,North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire) within the past 6 months. Take it from me that the food here is as good as it gets.The fish is always perfectly fresh, the batter always crisp (no soggy batter here) and crunchy. Clean and fresh environment and clean loos.This restaurant deserves more customers and is worth going out of your way to find if you are a lover of fish and chip restaurants. The menu includes more than just Cod and Haddock well worth a look.In my opinion, the food is better than Whitby's in Sheffield and that is saying something

When travelling through Worksop this used to be a favourite place to call, but with a change of ownership the standard seemed to drop and on my recent visit was not up to the standard I hoped for, still a good eat but not special anymore

The place is immaculately clean , very white white walls clean wood surfaces chairs and tables look like they came from a old pub but serviceable if not a little mix and match. We sat and ate that was not so good. we went slightly off menu but the breaded mushrooms were a little over done and a little too much grease still on the food. Chips are supposed to be good here but they can vary depending on the time of year, lets hope mine was because of that as I have had better chips from here on the takeaway. It was quiet when we arrived and did think that 25 mins for food was a little too long considering. Music playing seemed to come from a portable stereo as the quality wasn't good, but as I never saw a PRS/PPL sticker I assume they play without it and therefore don't really push this forward. For the type and quality of food and drink I thought this was pricey for that market.

well worth the money and the fish is amazing, it falls apart and isn't greasy at all, the curry sauce is absolutely immense and the chips are crispy any golden, definitely my favourite chippy!

Well I always put an honest review and say it how it is This is the third or fourth time I've been in , and each time the service and food have been superb . The girls are smashing and cannot do enough for you . the food is always excellent the chef gets the fish perfect . 4 adults dropped in at peak time on Friday but a table was found straight away.The food was served very hot and enjoyed by everyone, I had the fish pie which even though I'm not a great fish lover was very nice, served in an individual dish together with chips, peas and a side salad.The staff were very friendly and the young lady serving us even managed to persuade us to have desserts even though we were already quite full, there again it was bread and butter pudding, one of my favourites but narrowly beat the ginger pudding!!
