A friend had visited for dinner and told us of the fabulous food and views. Looked on website saw they did afternoon tea and booked a table. We were the only people in the restaurant apart from four others and a dog who were having a business meeting so a distinct lack of ambience although that is not the fault of the hotel. The hotel is definitely tired and in need of updating. Choice of teas offered but served with big cappuccino type cups branded with some coffee companies name. Our waiter told us to ask if there was anything we needed and our teapots were readily replenished. Three finger sandwiches each egg mayonnaise, ham and mustard and tuna and cucumber together with a bite size pork pie each. Scones served with jam and cream were delicious. There was a selection of seven cakes each, all very large pieces delicious and definitely home made. Too many to eat in one sitting so asked who I assumed was the maitre’d if we could have a box to take them away. I was told ‘No, as we don’t do takeaway’! Our lovely waiter offered to bring us foil so that we could pack them up ourselves. We have always been offered the chance to take away any uneaten cakes when we have visited other locations for afternoon tea. I rather get the impression that they are not geared up for non residents to eat there maybe this is because they have recently been taken over and are rebranding as a wedding venue.

Beautiful surroundings - but enjoy the view and don’t order food. £40 for dinner is very expensive for what’s on offer, whilst the service is typically good compared to the local offer this is off putting. Particularly as guests receive no discount

Stopped off on the way from Scarborough to Whitby for lunch. We had a sandwich, a panini and a bowl of chips. The view was lovely. Sandwiches were ok, but with a very small side salad, very little dressing and a few crisps, they were basic. Condiments were served in sachets, just like at Asda cafe. Given that they were pitched at the £9 mark, I expected them to be better. The panini was best part of £13. Same again - you get an identical plate of food in weatherspoons, but at literally half the price. The chips were awful. Undercooked, in dirty oil and came out all floppy and limp. We left them. There was no check back on the food, so unfortunately nobody knew.

The coffee was decent and the scone was a nice touch, but the reason you'd stop here is not really for all of that. It's for the views. After you've had your fill, walk around the grounds here. They are easily the best views you'll have all day. The parapets and the outer courtyards are sublime to say the least. If you're lucky, you'll hear the seals below.

The sandwiches, chips and coleslaw served for lunch in the bar area are lovely. We had lunch in the cosy lounge area. The food is ordered at the bar and then brought out to your table. Service at lunch was quick and efficient. There are socially distancing measures in place and a 2 m queuing system at the bar. After lunch we went for a walk along the cliffs and thought we would return for afternoon tea. However, the table we had sat at for lunch had been cleared away but the table had not been cleaned down, with some salt we had accidently spilt at lunch still on the table. There was a long queue at the bar and service was so slow that we eventually gave up and left. They need more staff on on an afternoon as well as making sure that tables are cleaned down and sanitized between customers in these covid-19 times.

This should get 5 stars. The lodge was perfect as was the young lady on reception who has only just joined. The food however, was terrible. The ravioli was dry and under cooked. My wife's chickpea curry was even worse. This had all the flavour and texture as Gandhi's flip flop. The only moisture came from the wet soggy rice

Out for a trip with my elderly father. Thought we'd try Raven Hall for coffee and cake at 11.30.Service was incipid, cake was Victoria sponge or nothing and was dry and tasteless when it came.Worst was the dreadful service. This was explained when I asked for the manager, who, when I said the man who was behind the bar when I arrived had said, "just a moment." then gone off and left me, said, "we don't have any men working today."!!!!!!With such poor management comes poor service. But at least the hotel has a great view. But weirdly it is out of bounds except for mealtimes.I won't be back.

On checking in, the reception staff were unwelcoming. We were given the key and the lady walked away, we had to ask where our room was. Room was good, comfortable and clean, massive comfy bed and nice country view. We had our dog and was well aware we could not eat in the restaurant with him, and we knew shorts were not permitted. My partner went to ask for a menu and buy some drinks, only to be told quite sternly he couldn't go in wearing shorts. None of the staff cracked a smile the whole time we were there. At breakfast after being seated we were left without tea or coffee. We asked a waitress and eventually we were given drinks. I ordered gluten free toast, it wasnt brought at the same time as my partner's and when he'd finished I saw my order being taken to the wrong table. The fried buffet consisted of dried up beans and the eggs looked disgusting. Yoghurts were warm. After handing the key back the reception staff never even said thanks or goodbye. In general if you want a hotel with good views and surroundings you will be happy here. It is very remote so go prepared and don't expect any smiles or pleasantries from staff.

We called here for tea and scones whilst walking in the area. The hotel enjoys a fantastic location but sadly its service does not have the same wow factor. Having taken a seat in a somewhat tired, soulless lounge, we were informed by a waitress that she couldn’t take our order and I had to traipse down to the bar to do it there. For what was a simple order, it took ages for anything to arrive and even then it was disorganised. The tea arrived but the cups were filthy so they were taken away, leaving us with tea but no cups for almost ten minutes. It was a further 7-8 minutes after that before the scones arrived, by which time the tea was almost gone. The whole experience lacked any sense of customer service and was one we’re unlikely to repeat I’m afraid.

The best thing about this hotel is the view, whilst waiting for our morning coffee I was looking at the theme breaks one of which is a Fawlty towers evening we don’t need to bother booking this special just call any day. A simple order turned into a pantomime the lukewarm coffee arrived after about 10 minutes with butter, a knife and napkins but no fruit scone. Whilst waiting there were some very irate comments from other customers who were waiting for refreshments to accompany the already cold coffee the explanation was there was no one in the kitchen to process the orders. Once my scone arrived it was like being served by Manuel first he gave me a scone with cream and jam then a toasted tea cake with jam third time lucky I got my much anticipated fruit scone. Lucky for him I’m honest otherwise I could have had scone with cream and jam courtesy of another customer. Now the scone more like a pastry rock cake, no taste no flavour and very sparse fruit content. For the cost and the laughable service it’s not worth a visit. If you want breathtaking views just stand anywhere on the coast you don’t need to be in the panoramic restaurant of this hotel. Sorry but it’s not worth the price.

In 12 years of contributing to Tripadvisor this is my first bad review. As a barrister I know from clients that negative reviews can be damaging. Regrettably, I feel I have no choice. We visited this hotel to have dinner on 13th August 2018. We are a party of 6 and our youngest is 2 years old. Dinner service doesn’t start until 6pm, which is fair enough, but we had to leave after our main course as the service was slow and the little one was getting grouchy and ready for bed. So that we didn’t disturb the other diners we opted to leave without getting a second course. Apparently (!) the menu says that you must eat a minimum of two courses. We simply didn’t have time and had to adapt to the needs of our baby. We raised the issue with Alin, the ‘manager’, who was exceptionally sarcastic. He showed a complete lack of understanding and initially insisted that we stay and have desert. Eventually, after much face pulling and sighing by Alin, he offered to give us £5 off the £25 per head charge. This was ridiculous but we opted to pay the nominally reduced bill and left. Throughout our dealings with Alin he was nothing but rude. Very disappointed. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!

We were staying at the hotel and decided to eat there. Six times. The main menu changes daily - we have stayed in places and become bored - there is always steak. There is always a chicken dish of some kind and always fish.Had some really tasty meals. Really tasty. Issues - minimal but...Veg is served with every dish (potatoes and veg) even Thai curry with rice and chowder......Vegetarian menu does not changeCourses are served very quickly. The latter point we got round.... the first thing we tried was asking for a gap, but this didn't happen so we resorted to only ordering one course at a time. Worked well for us. We like leisurely meals when we are away. They do have you sign for every wine, drink or supplement. This can seem odd....but I'm sure it leads to less errors. I don't blame them, I have seen people dispute bills for things they have clearly had at other hotels....and how different is it to when on a cruise??? On a cruise you have to sign, it's just presented in a fancy little folder. Our bill was accurate. The waiting staff do everything they can to accommodate the customer. We tend to keep ourselves to ourselves but many guests get quite 'pally' with the staff. The waiting staff are always busy and smiley. I like extra space and this was brought with no issue. The cheese and wine has port included....yum!It is three star and it does what it does well. Very happy.

The menu is said to change daily - which is good as most of the patrons seemed to be hotel residents. There's a set price for the menu - you pay per amount of courses with some items as an added supplement. The service was good. There are a lot of staff. The food selection was pretty standard. The food was satisfactory but nothing fancy. I would be suprised if anything is made on site. I wouldn't say that it warrents the cost. It's a place in the typical vein of English coastal hotels. There are white tablecloths and napkins and the waiters serve food from a tray placed in a tressel. I can't imagine that much has changed since its heyday in the early twentieth century. It's a place that doesn't have much competition and I think that shows. If your expectations are for old fashioned English seaside eccentricity then this restaurant won't disappoint. Wait a few years and it might even become fashionably vintage.

You can enjoy breathtaking views of the rolling hills, the coast and of course Robin Hoods Bay. Everyone seemed to be wanting a window seated table to enjoy the views but every table has that luxury. As we were staying at the hotel we also enjoyed their delicious full English breakfast with other choices of smoked haddock with poached egg, omelette or cereals etc. If you decide to stay at the hotel a good tip is that you can request a copy of the menu for that evening from reception at any time which you can then peruse at your leisure. Try it you would not be disappointed.

Visited this beautiful hotel for afternoon tea and as always it did not disappoint. Everything here is elegant and the service is fantastic. It's not cheap but if you want a nice treat with one of the best views visit this tea room. The food is so fresh and served by some of the nicest staff of any place I have visited.

On a weekend break at the Raven Hall Hotel we dined in the Panorama Restaurant. We were lucky enough to be in Ravenscar when the weather was exceptionally dry, sunny and we were blessed with clear skies. All in all it was a perfect recipe for a perfect view of Robin hoods bay in all its glory. The icing on the cake was a spectacular sunset, one of the best I have seen. This surely justifies the name of " The Panorama Restaurant ".Whilst the menu is a little limited for choice it does not detract from the quality of the food served. Our meals were always served in a timely fashion by the very polite and professional waiters. It was always well cooked, hot and well presented. The staff will always try and accomodate guests with a window seated table whenever possible. However if you are prepared to wait a little by having a drink in the well appointed bar they will try to arrange a window seated table for you to enjoy that spectacular view. I must point out that even if you dine on a table away from the window the view can still be appreciated. After dinner one can enjoy a romantic stroll in the Hotels extensive grounds and enjoy the views some more. This place really is idyllic and I would hope that everyone who visits appreciates the location, service and quality. We enjoyed our stay at The Raven Hall and our dining experience at Panorama Restaurant and have re booked for a mid week break in August. Excellent service always with a smile.

Pity we live over the other side of the UK, or I'd be there all the time. Wonderful views and excellent service. Particularly the lovely Beatrice who was so friendly, efficient and helpful. Last time I was there was 2012 and thought it might have deteriorated but quite the contrary - even significantly improved. Decor and ambiance were superb.

The views from your table are incredible- right out across Robin Hood's Bay. Very beautiful. The food is very good indeed - the cheese and biscuits is really a step above.Downside: the staff were pleasant, yet disinterested in their attitude. All a bit rushed - we managed a 3 course meal in just over an hour and it didn't really feel like we could stay longer.

We stayed at the Raven Hall hotel for the last 3 nights with breakfast and dinner included. We enjoyed every meal throughout our stay in the Panorama Restaurant - the view is amazing any time of the day, the menu was varied and has lots of tasty local produce and the service was very efficient!!! Beatrice in particular worked tirelessly and always with a smile on her face :-) Request a window table if you can, to take in the sunset and the views. We also had an amazing Afternoon Tea when we were there with so many mini cakes between us we couldn't finish them! A well ran, friendly and non stuffy restaurant it was a pleasure to dine and relax in, thank you...

Considering it was a Sunday night (In the old days, chefs night off after Sunday service) I was pleasantly surprised at the high standard of my Dinner. On this night it would compete with some of the best.

Beautiful place with exceptional views and access down to beach although a bit of a trek but worth it to see the seals. Food delicious and reasonably priced. Swimming pool and a chapel in the amazing house feel transported back to the period.

To return so quickly speaks volumes. We arrived in horrendous weather conditions, so much so I was unable to open the car door because of gale force winds. John came to my aid having got out of the car n realised just how strong the winds were.Greeting was very welcoming but as we arrived a bit early n our room wasn't ready we made ourselves comfy n warm in front of the open fires.Awoke on Saturday to find the sun was pouring into our bedroom, clear blue skys but very cold - basically a perfect cold winters day. John took the walk to Robin Hood bay n back, together with our doggie Astra,

Checked into hotel never having been here before. Booked for dinner. Did not know what was on menu as it is published daily however even in bar area there were no menus. Seated and then you get menu. Limited choice. The food that arrived was cooked to perfection. Nicely presented. Only given the 4 stars due to lack of choice.Lovely restaurant with stunning views across Robin Hood bay

Raven Hall is our hotel of choice when visiting Yorkshire's east coast usually going out for dinner by way of a change. This visit we ate dinner in the hotel on three consecutive evenings. The menu was varied, food top quality and well presented without being pretentious as so many places are. In particular, the waitress service was noticeably professional and engaging, obviously reflecting the management's investment in training and in high quality staff. By way of a change I had a go at a vegetarian option and I'd have that again like a shot. The view alone from the panorama restaurant over the bay to Robin Hood's Bay is worth it even without the quality service experience and it's not overly expensive.

The menu choice changed daily, so never a problem with experiencing something new. All the meals taken were of excellent quality, with matching levels of preparation and presentation. There is a good vegetarian choice, also of the same standards of the main menu. We always received a warm welcome, with excellent service from all the staff.

We had dinner as guests at the hotel (which was good overall) and were disappointed. The menu choice was limited (which need not have been a problem per se) and fairly lacklustre; for example that was not any starter which I particularly fancied which is highly unusual for me!In the end I chose a steak main course which with the additional chips came with an additional £11 supplement. Sadly what appeared to be an excellent cut of meat was taken well beyond medium rare in the sadistic realms of "well done". Yes I know I should have said something at the time, and in general the staff were good so I'm sure it would have been sorted without any fuss, but I was hungry and I didn't want to make a fuss... plus for the relatively ambitious pricing, this should never have happened. I'm quite happy to pay £30 for an excellent steak, this was not at that level by any means (although technically, I DID pay that much).Girlfriend faired better with a beautifully rare piece of duck, but it was on the tough side.Vegetables were plain. Booze options mainstream. The dining room itself was astonishingly warm, it was genuinely tiring sitting in there for too long so we had to go outside into the freezing sea air to refresh ourselves. All in all a bit disappointing.A real shame as it's a smashing hotel, with a good dining room it would a real cracking place.
