Superb choices and great customer service

I really wanted to like Palomar. We'd heard great things about their food presentation and were looking forward to a nice night out. But honestly, our experience was pretty alarming, especially for anyone with celiac disease or severe allergies. When we made the reservation, they assured us they could handle gluten-free needs. But as soon as we sat down, things got weird. Our waiter asked who needed gluten-free options, then followed up with "How gluten-free are you?" Red flag right there. We explained about celiac disease, hoping that would clear things up. Instead, he actually asked, "How celiac are you?" I was stunned. It's not exactly a spectrum. The real kicker came when the waiter told us about cross-contamination. He said not to worry because he had first aid training. I'm not sure what he thought he could do with that if someone had a serious reaction, but it didn't inspire confidence. At that point, we decided it wasn't worth the risk and left without ordering. It's a shame, because the food did look great. But the staff member's apparent lack of understanding about serious dietary restrictions was just too concerning. If you don't have any food allergies or celiac disease, you'd probably have a great meal here. But for those of us who do, I'd steer clear until they get some proper training for their staff. It's not just about the food tasting good - it's about safety.

Great to be back here again when it's busy with a buzzing atmosphere. Was expecting a bit more flavour wise from the seafood broil but it was still quite a fun experience. Chocolate desert was a good choice

The food wasn’t the best but I think that was purely the choice. The fish and lobster near us looked amazing but I chose the jambalaya which was pretty poor…, one prawn and very chewy calamari overloaded with clam.. was more like a paella than a jambalaya. Pretty expensive for what it ended up being. That being said I would go back again to try the fish. Service was great and waiter lovely.

Remember to book the table for dinner, otherwise walk-in is impossible. The seafood platter is outstanding! Seafood is fresh and deliciously made! Environment is good, location is good, staff is nice and friendly.

Went in at around 7.30pm last night to order £200 worth of foods for 6 people. The kitchen took ages to prepare the foods. When someone else next table came in after us but got their oysters served (we made the order before them obviously), i gently asked the waiter how long our oysters would be ready, he aggressively responded "please don't rush him". Not to mention, he seems really uninterested in serving us. This is not the customer service I expected and this man clearly does not like his job. Or maybe because we are Asian and he seems racist towards us. Also, the oysters were not fresh at all as you can see in the picture. We all got a terrible diarrhea after got home. This restaurant is terrible in many ways.

First time me and my family visited there, best experience we say we had, we ordered lobster it was tender and succulent, visit was topped up by some top class service by Florence she was amazing and hospitable, will come back!

Food and atmosphere was 10/10. But the service was 20/10. We were greeted by a young gentleman who was very polite and our waitress for the was Florence. I think I can go back again and again just for her polite and friendly service. Although every staff that we came across very super nice ( even the gentleman who showed us how to use all those fancy tools for our lobster 🦞), Florence was really good specially with our Kid. Nothing was too much trouble for her. It was so refreshing to get such amazing service. I would definitely recommend everyone to try this place just for 3 reasons Amazing food Amazing atmosphere and Super amazing service.

Lovely atmosphere & food is very good. We have been twice now & the food each time has been really good. There were 10 of us & we all enjoyed our meals. I shared the surf & Turf with my husband. We had steak, prawns, Squid, mussels & whitebait & chips & there was more than enough for two people.

The best seafood I have ever eaten. We had the seafood boil which was outstanding. Service was brilliant and staff were friendly. Honestly blown away with this place. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am a fish lover , so we ordered the boil . The restaurant advertises his fresh daily delivery . I can tell that there was little fresh sea food apart from the mussels. It was very disappointing . The langoustines were limp and tasteless. The monk fish tails were nice ,the spider crabs leg was dried , the gambas were ok . Now the broth . The broth was completely wrong , not fish based , it was overpowered with spices like clove and cumin , and chili I presumed , some celery , and sausages ? with the collection of fish they advertised it would be more than easy to have fish stock . Conclusion . The day we went to the restaurant was not busy . we were a party of several. I noted that Fonzie a Few weeks ago made similar comments about the Famous boil. The restaurant relied that they would take note of comments for future reference ... may be they should .

Great meal out for a special occasion. Food Was excellent and service was excellent... Did have a lot of people coming and going and chatting very loudly with the staff ( seemed like off shift staff members just popping in) which did riun the atmosphere a little. But nothing to take away the brilliance of the food!

*Upfront Information* Service 15/10 Staff won't bother you with a fake "how is everything" like some places do, they will genuinely interact with you and you feel welcome right away. They are all clearly enjoying working with each other and hold a unique talent each such as cocktail creating or serving or cooking and it just makes you feel part of it. Atmosphere 9/10 Awesome to hear music from such a range, old green day, crowded house, the smiths and more, it definitely gave me a better cozy feeling than other restaurants I've been to recently that simply play theme music. The lighting and interior is great as you'll see. Food 10/10 Right well, here we go... Damn! We thought we'd get the surf and turf sharing meal. Seemed a little higher price but worked out cheaper per person than you'd usually pay for a meal... Then this huge platter came out cooked to, honestly, perfection. We somehow finished it all and the quality of ingredients was just spot on (far to good for what we paid!). Streak medium rare, perfect, calamari quality was fresh just as were the muscles, fish was crispy and delicious. I mean even the cheesecake was just perfect. I really can't boast this place enough. Price 10/10 Might seem a little high at first, but as soon as you taste a drink or meal, you realise you'd pay twice that and still be happy. They do these after 8 cocktails and it tastes just like the brand! Cannot wait to go back.

One of the best places i’ve ever been for seafood. Menu is small and the food is done to perfection. Me and my husband celebrated our anniversary here; terrible rain caught up with us before we arrived and the staff and owner could not have been more accommodating and lovely. I have visited Palomar a few times and have always enjoyed the experience. The food is fresh and prepared superbly, whether you have seafood or another option they are all wonderful. The staff are very kind and quick to help if you ever need it. Highly recommend

Had a really enjoyable meal! My first time here, the oysters are beautiful and the melon ball is a delicious touch! The sea bream was also very tasty! 100% recommend!

Fabulous food and incredibly kind service. Really recommend the seafood boil to share, very tasty, tender seafood with a creole kick. Just make sure you leave lots of time as it's huge! We'll be back again soon!

Reviewing the second time my partner and I have been here in 8 weeks. This is the place for any kind of seafood in Bristol. Seriously. Delightful serving staff and an excellent wine selection.

The staff were friendly, the cocktails were great, and I really appreciated the variety of the menu. The atmosphere was nice for a nice Friday night dinner. I've already recommended to a few friends that they come here!

One of the worst restaurants we have had the misfortune to visit. The welcome and service was indifferent from the outset. The waiter was incomprehensible and quietly spoken. The service then crawled at a snail’s pace. Water was forgotten and had to be requested again. Two members of our party received their order and we were left high and dry with no food - which in hindsight would have been a blessing. For no apparent reason a plate of chips was dumped on us - an over order. The Seafood Platter was a greasy, bland mess, overlaid with an unpleasant old oil malaise. The whitebait was clearly only vaguely waved at the batter, the calamari was in a revoltingly soggy coating, the prawns and langoustines and scallops were horribly rubbery and utterly tasteless, save every type of fish tasted the same, the salmon was as dry as cream crackers - how on earth can you, as a fish restaurant, ruin salmon to such a woeful extent. The staff really had no interest in the diners. I felt sick for hours afterwards with a greasy mass turning my stomach. Overpriced, lacking atmosphere, shockingly awful food. The only saving grace was that it was warm - outside was freezing with torrential rain.

Incredible, we visited and had 2 courses which were stunning! The service was amazing, the gentleman that served us was helpful, polite and made the experience memorable. The food was another level, all courses were a great size and really high quality. It is on the pricier side but definitely worth it! A great little restaurant, worth a visit, an interesting array of fresh fish and meat. Great Maldon oysters, bit small but good, fish broil was ok but pinchers for cracking shell fish small not easy to use. The desserts, lemon posset fantastic, bit confused with people serving, but worth a visit or two....add to your lists

Had a lovely evening at Palomar. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I was given a plate of calamari to sample as I'd never tried before. Ordered the surf and turf and the food was delicious. Steak cooked to perfection. Could have benefited from an offering of a steak sauce on the side but still very delicious. Beautiful ambient, very clean; comfortable seats and correct mis-en-place. The staff is professional and friendly, they pay good attention to their customers. Food - 10 out of 10: fresh products, tasty, well flavoured, cooked to perfection. We shared 2 platters and they were enough for the 4 of us. The only step back is the waiting time, which, to be honest, is long if you are hungry, but just right when you are the cook. Highly recommended!

Amazing seafood and a great range of drinks. We had the surf & turf and loved the mussels in red wine, really tasty prawns and perfectly char grilled rare steak. The waiter looking at us was really helpful and accommodating as well, which we were really grateful for. The puddings looked great but we were too full to be able to fit them in. Would definitely recommend.

A really disappointing experience. I booked a table for 7 people, the restaurant clearly ceases to function when busy. We were greeted very nicely by a lovely waitress who took drink orders and talked us through the menu. The cocktails were great. The starters took a long time to arrive, and were served nicely. The mains took 90 minutes. The seafood boil was very salty and the crab seemed to be spoilt. The Plaice tasted bitter and was over cooked and tasted very very fishy (which fresh fish should not) which was sent back to the kitchen. We were asked if we would like to order something else, but to be honest we had been put off by the unpleasant taste of the fish. We were served by about 4 different waiters at different times and orders were getting a bit mixed up. It was slightly overpriced for the standard of food and service.

Had a great night celebrating our 25 wedding anniversary, welcomed by Aly (owner) and had the most amazing 3 course meal cooked by Ben (chef), with drinks a plenty, including some lovely champagne. Can’t recommend enough, has a great menu suitable for all tastes!

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Palomar! We kicked off with an incredible old fashioned, the finest espresso martini I've ever tasted, and some exceptional oysters. Following that, we shared a sole fillet (one of the catches of the day) and the delicious mackerel dish, accompanied by a beautiful Spanish white wine. Portion sizes were just right, and the flavours were extraordinary. And of course, the atmosphere and service were both outstanding! Can't wait for our next visit!

Went on Valentine’s Day as was a total disappointment the individual serving was unfortunately really busy and was clear he couldn’t handle the busy load I think he totally forgot to put our order through waited over a hour seen others who came in after served mains. We were given a starter after a hour of waiting but unfortunately we didn’t eat calamari or white bait I was happy with the offer but we didn’t eat it so was pointless. At this point we left and bill was £40 for cocktails that literally just tasted of lemon juice extremely bitter tasting definitely not worth the time and has left me extremely disappointed.

We had a really really lovely meal here, went during the daytime on a Wednesday so was quieter, but we had full attention from the waiter and the food was just impeccable. Really impressed with this place and will be coming back!

We went to Palomar for a belated Valentines lunch and I’m so glad we did. We’re huge seafood lovers and took a risk as we wanted to try somewhere new. It was very quiet but that didn’t detach from the experience, at no point did we feel rushed or watched. The atmosphere was very relaxed with lots of candles, comfy seating and music. We shared the surf and turf platter - it was incredible. The steak was so soft and cooked to perfection. The fish was all beautifully cooked and so flavourful. We were told the chimichri wasn’t available but that it would be served with a marie rose sauce which we said was fine. I expected a basic mix of mayo and ketchup but I couldn’t have been more wrong, it was spicy and flecked with fresh dill. A lovely accompaniment to the meal. I had a Bristol Tom Colins that was so savoury and dry, just the way I like it. My husband had a raspberry espresso martini which I thought might taste a bit synthetic but it didn’t, not too sweet either. He loved it. Our server with the Mohawk and excellent tattoos was really attentive and friendly.

Came for a late Valentine's meal. Friendly staff who, whilst busy, were really helpful and accommodating. Makes all the difference. We shared some nice wine and had an excellent Creole seafood boil to share. You cant go wrong with that combo. The boil has a generous serving of seafood, so you will not go hungry! Whilst one of the more expensive items, if sharing with someone it's really good value. 👍

My husband brought me here for early Valentine's celebration (to avoid the busy night on Valentines). The atmosphere is very romantic. In the picture, the table looks so close to each other, but because the table is quite big and chunky. When I was sitting there and other customers came and sat next to us. We have quite plenty of space between others. We ordered scallops for a starter to share. I was surprised it didn't come with the shell like I thought should, but after i had a try, the taste is so unique and delicious! Wait quite a while for our main (because we're super hungry), but when the food comes... half of Lobster 🦞 is bigger than I thought. My husband got dish of the day "Hake" £22, the fish is chunky like a steak. Worth it! I'm not talking about the taste yet. Well, basically, i believe every dish here tastes good! Because all our orders taste delicious. 😋👍 Oh, we're not normally orders dessert, but we're wondering to try, so we choose a "Sticky Toffee pudding" to share (quite big for 1 person after those starter and main course) and... OMG! If you have a plan to surprise your partner, here won't make you disappointed. Before I left, we got a brochure about Valentine's Day meal. I'm a bit sad that we have an early celebration in advance because it's a very good deal. It's cheaper than our meal for tonight (£80 without alcohol), but I don't regret it. We really looked forward to eat at this place and taste some Oysters After reading good reviews. Went the 31st of December at 17:30 (fully booked, but sweet from them to have a spot before other guests arrived). Only wanted to est Oysters & drink a good bottles of wine. Actually the wine was tasteful and food good except for the fact that they put a pieces of watermelon on top of every oyster (tip: better ask them to serve them the traditional way). The aestetic of the place was looking really classy and with good chill vibes from the outside. But as we entered there was this really loud EDM hits music (trashy club vibes) that didn't match the place at all! We were bothered after a few minutes so we asked the waiter to turn down the volume or change the music. Just imagine, we couldn't even talk to each other. Sad. Everyone else at the restaurant seemed also stressed out as well. The first answer we had was a big "NO not possible, in 30 mins, I'll put it even louder, the place will be fully backed." Second answer after we got the Oysters was: "I'll put it a bit down for the next 20 mins". But still the music was to loud. Never came to check again if it was good for us. At this moment, we can say that he made us take the decision not to take anything else to eat after Oysters nore a bottle of Champagne for example or to stay longer! Big mistake! Besides that a waitress, probably the manager and a french speaking guy were sweet. But just count, we had 4 different people taking care of us during our 1,5 hour stay. And, we've to say we are very chill people. Personnally I do come from Gastro and this was a unchill experience sadly. Last but not least, we've been told to come back another day to experience the place as it is usually. We were in Bristol only for 3 days. Sooooo... sorry not sorry but voilà. You missed your chance to make us happy and chill on the last day of the year.

Quite a bit away from the Bristol town centre so we have high hope of this restaurant. We are visiting Bristol but always looking for good food with good prices, so going to a seafood restaurant is not something we do all the time. For the price we paid tonight approx @£45 per person, I think the food was well below average, some serious things needs to be had with the way how the food is served would have improve the rating by at least 1 star. We had the calamari and white bait as starters, unfortunately this dish was served on a bed of green salad, resulted the food was cold and soggy. Fried food need to be served on non-moist surface, ie bare plate or grease-proof paper at best, a simple dainty plate or even a wooden board will suffice. We then had the boiled seafood, so many things went wrong with how this is served or even prepared.. First of all, the broth was cooked with spam and sweetcorn and way too much salt, spam is a highly-flavoured salted processed food, which does not go well with seafood at all, unless the seafood is not fresh, the strong flavour of spam also covered the sweetness of the seafood, the same with using sweetcorn, all the seafood sweetness disappeared under the sweetness of the sweetcorn. This pot of seafood was soaking in this salty liquid all through our meal on a fire, which mean the seafood was on a constant cooking environment, seafood is then well-over cooked and wilted. A vaccumed type heated container will keep the seafood warm yet not "cooking" them will fix it. We were provided with small forks, a ladle and spoons with this dish... first, the broth was undrinkable as its too salty so the spoons were useless, second the fork is too wide to deal with the pincers, and finally, the ladle scoop against shell fish resulted the shellfish slipping off the ladle, a tong which have been much better. The ambience was great though, and the way how the restaurant spaced out their bookings so no customers need to wait at the door for long is really clever idea. The service was not good though, the table was full of leftover shells, empty plates but the service staff seemed not worry unless asked to clear them or you ask for the bill. It would be better if these empties are being cleared away soon as they are there. The table looks like a mess when we ask for the bill as it put us off staying for dessert. For the price we paid compare to the food and services we get would have been a 2.5 rating but did not make to 3 star, so have no choice but to give 2 star rating. The improvement suggested is much needed but they are easy to implement, please consider.

Went here a week ago after having a little search for a nice seafood restaurant to try with my partner. Amazing!! Will definitely be coming back it’s such a lovely hidden gem! The food was amazing! We had crab, oysters, lobster and scallops and definitely wasn’t disappointed, super tasty!! Will 100% be coming back, I need to try the seafood boil as a table next to us had it and looked fab!
