Finally some proper chips! I have 3 chip shops within walking distance and one under cooks their chips, the other chippy cooks them to the right crispy outer texture but they use dirty oil. Thankfully this one has it spot on, really good chips! Mmmm

Fish and chips were okay. But ordered a battered sausage and they put a tiny, overcooked one in there. Didn't realize til I got home.

For the 4th time I have been served yesterday’s fish and chips even though I spoke with them and they assured me that it would be cooked fresh. No good when I order at 11.30am and my support worker picks the order up. Having read some other 1* reviews, I don’t think calling customers a moron, telling them that they don’t know what they are talking about and never to come again gives you an idea of the guy running the place. As I warned - serve me last nights food and I won’t be back. The nasty ripostes don’t help either!

Most amazing staff very helpful always served with a smile excellent food

Due to business I was in the area for a month and attended on quite a few occasions. The food was always and without exception excellent. The service was always excellent staff were friendly and no matter the queue size everyone was greated with a smile. There is internal and external seating all of which is kept clean and with the exception of one small step it's easily wheel chair accessable. If there was a blueprint for a fish bar this is it.

Top notch grub, will def. be going again and will recommend to friends.

Lovely Cod - The ''Large'' was enough for two people - the batter was lovely- The cod light and flaky - really nice . Normally I'd not eat the batter, but this was crispy and light. Not the cheapest, but portion size was generous. Good service.

Really lovely kind and friendly owner and service with an extra smile and mile ! Wrapped everything twice because I had a 15 min walk. Lovely fresh fish and crispy chips. Went for first time on Thursday last to get fish and chips for myself and sister. Beautifully clean and airy shop, loads of people outside eating and altogether a VERY pleasant experience ! Worst fish and chips EVER!! Asked for a large fish and chips was charged 17 pounds which isn't cheap but fine if it was fresh. Chips had been re fried and 70% were edible and had to be thrown away. They knew what they were giving me. Just means they are dishonest and ripping people off. Dozens of awards!!! For what???

Overcooked chips … maybe old as well. About 20% were edible, the rest I had to throw away. Feels like I got recooked afternoons chips. It just comes across like the oil hasn’t been changed and it’s discolouring the food. Very, very disappointed with the food and the reply back. Can’t believe they are justifying the poor quality. I got a reply back calling me a “moron” so I’ve down graded the service to a one star. I’ve taken a picture of the chips I had to throw away but not sure how to post it. 🍟

I don't know why this fish & chips shop has so many 5 star ratings. I've been on 3 separate occasions & had what I class as poor food each time. The fish is great quality, the batter is way too thick & hard. The chips are also hard & kinda chewy on the outside. I prefer light crispy batter. I like my chips soft & fluffy in the middle with a light crispy outer. This is something that you don't get at Bishopston fish bar. The staff are always super friendly & the service is good but slow. I don't think I'll be back again. I know of way better fish & chips shops, so I'll stick to the places I know I enjoy. Edit: I retract my statement that the staff are always super friendly. The response I've just received from my honest review, shows they are anything but super friendly. They are childish & bitter when someone speaks the truth about their poor quality food. Their response is not isolated, just to me. I see their childish bitterness emanating out to others who dare put forth a modicum of criticism.

This place is the Best - however busy, Ishmael is always cool, calm, collected and smiling whilst the girls frantically try to keep up with packing the orders as they pile in. Order early if it is for Friday or Saturday evening to stay ahead of the game.

But don't accept card :( no one uses cash anymore the amount of times I've gone to the pizza place next door when I'm hammered cos they don't accept card. Bought just chips today 22 Dec 23 it was worst ever chips. Chips was cooked long ago and oil not been changed recently. It was too salty and quiet frankly thrown in the bin. Not recommending.

Easily the best chippy in Bristol, one thing I would say is calamari could be a little better, slight lack of seasoning but good for a chip shop and good price, and only get 2 prawns in fish platter but all in all really good

Great chippy. Asked the owner to batter me a saveloy as they do in Australia, he was concerned, as he hadn’t done a battered saveloy in the 30 years he has been in the game. It reminded me from home and I suggest you try it! Nice food, great owner. Would recommend.

Best chippy in North Bristol for me. Good options for those who don't eat meat too. Good portions, especially enjoy their pea fritter which aren't commonly found in Bristol. Large chips enough for two with some spare. Didn't get it myself but the person before got a large cod and it was the size of a skateboard! Easily enough to feed two.

This is the Best fish and chips in Bristol. Their large cod is huge; all their batter is perfectly crispy; and the chips are just the right mix of soft inside but crispy outside. Lovely staff too.

Ordered two large haddock and chips and one small pot of curry sauce at lunchtime. Haddock wasn’t battered very well and most of the chips buried under the fish were small . We have had large haddock from Bishopston previously and the size of the large haddock , in our opinion has shrunk considerably. We haven’t had a takeaway from Bishopston fish for about a year and sadly on this occasion it was very disappointing. We have always had well prepared fish and chips from Bishopston before . Sadly we would be hard pressed to return . Paid £12 for each large haddock and with two chips and a small Pot of curry sauce , approx £32 ish . If the fish was well battered and the chips were decent then we might have returned .

Probably the best chippy in Bristol. Just had a lovely piece of cod. Soft, flaky and coated in light, crispy batter. Very good value too - a 300g fillet. Plus classic chippy chips. Friendly service, great food and good prices. March 2023 update Still the freshest fish in town, beautifully cooked. Also try the battered halloumi. It's like halloumi, but even tastier. And strangely light. In a good way.

A great chippy, one of Bristols finest! Fish is always good and the lunch deal (pictured) is always a good midweek treat! Only missing out on 5 stars as they seem to be using non-recyclable trays.

Not too bad £15 for fish supper is a bit steep although for that you would expect to have enough chips to not be hungry, owner didn't acknowledge me just was looking at his phone, for premium prices you'd expect proper customer service.

By far the best fish and chips I've had in Bristol, which is really saying something! They usually don't do hot drinks but the fryer was more than happy to make me a proper brew, a lovely cuppa! My haddock and chips were outstanding and there were a few locals eating in who do so regularly and we're very friendly and accommodating- it's a wonderful place to order your food!

The fish bar boasts countless awards on its walls and website so you already know that the bar is going to be high. Thankfully, they can live up to this reputation and are able to repeatedly fry to perfection. Crisp, not oily bringing out the flavour. Portion sizes are really good too so don't get too carried away with the side options!

Me and my son have wanted to try something from bishopston fish bar for a while and finally we have. I can honestly say it was well worth the wait lovely fish, battered sausages, chips and curry sauce. Will definitely be visiting again.

If my wife were writing this review they would get 4 stars. She enjoyed both the fish and the chips, sadly I felt the fish let the combo down. Maybe the fish, maybe the oil they use, difficult to tell. Sorry guys.

What has happened to Bishopston Fish Bar? Use to be the best fish & chips in town, but we have literally had the worst piece of haddock we have ever had. It was really dry & chewy and definitely not freshly cooked. Chips were ok, hence the 2 stars but so disappointing from what was once an amazing place. I can only think COVID has taken its toll

Overall this establishment has good reviews, but if you check the majority of the poor reviews are most recent. My first visit last month, 2 x cod n chip, consisted of soggy batter, hard chips , some very watery curry sauce, but pleasant tasting fish. We had ordered at around 5:15, but we both thought these were lunchtimes unsold food reheated. Willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, tried again same order minus the curry sauce and ordered after 6pm. Same result awful chips and soggy batter. Outcome: That’s the second and least visit

Usually excellent, but chips tonight were flabby and not crisp; cod OK but too much batter; and no slice of lemon as used to be usual. Has it changed hands? Just not up to the high standard I'd come to expect as a regular, local customer.

Well I don't normally write reviews but I come here hearing all the reviews and awards. The cod was dry and chewy and the batter was chewy also instead of being crunchy. The chips on the other hand were cooked well and the curry sauce was very nice but small portions. Probably just a bad day or something. Might go back but and try again but not for a while
