Fishers Restaurant - Bristol in Bristol, City of

This is a very strange place, run by some very, very strange people. Despite booking, the initial welcome was "off". We had a table upstairs and we felt forgotten. Fishers does not really get customer service or care. We eventually managed to place a drinks order and then waited, and waited. Eventually 20mins later two drinks arrived. We had to chase the other three. Eventually flagged down a "waiter" who was dressed like he was working in the garden and had dirty hands too. He was rude, clueless, stupid, arrogant and clearly does not possess the social skills to work in the hospitality industry. We placed our main food order with him, despite him moaning...... The food then took almost one hour to arrive. When it did it was incomplete and arrived in phases. Side orders were missed and one main never arrived. No apology. No care. Zero attention to detail. It wasn't just us. The tables are so close together we cannot help but hear what is being said at other tables. Three other tables moaned about missing items, wrong bills, poor service etc. The whole place comes across as a sad joke. The quality of fish cooking displayed was very average, so even the heart of what Fishers is about it is not very good at. The whole place is dirty, the loos disgusting and the staff don't give a damn. It is very over priced for what it is. People giving this place good reviews need to get out and experience what a good seafood restaurant looks and tastes like. It sure as heck is not Fishers. In one word "avoid".

Absolutely dreadful experience. Ordered fresh fish online to be delivered for a birthday celebration. Confirmation received. Delivery day came and went. No delivery. Phoned and emailed that evening and the next day but no response. Went to the venue to speak to someone but notice on the door to say it was closed for holiday - and yet our order was processed online, payment taken and delivery date confirmed. No response to phone messages or emails. When the shop reopened a refund was processed but no communication or apology. Shocking.

I've no idea why this isn't rated even higher. My experience was excellent in all aspects. Would advise to book as even on a November evening it was very busy. Excellent and accommodating staff.

Birthday celebration, table of 6. Very friendly smiley welcome, shown to a table upstairs. Left to settle in, drinks order taken efficiently, and delivered with a smile. Unfortunately thats where the 'good' service ended. A Mussell started was forgotten, so we cancelled it. 4 mains brought out together, waited for the next two - one was completely wrong. Apologies, food taken away and new correct course came shortly after. One dessert ordered, one coffee and 2 expresso martinis - martinis forgotten! The service had gone downhill as the restaurant got busier, they were saying 'shall we take it off/shall we cancell it' like it was normal............. We dint want to cancel things would have loved the martins but we had asked for the bill with the last order and were still waiting for it. THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS, the staff are pleasant and apologetic but it feels like they are running around like headless chickens. No one asked how are food was. No one seemed to be in charge of our table, we had several different servers. I would love to eat there food again, I wonder if downstairs was better ? wont rush back, which is a shame

Had high expectations and was very disappointed. Extremely bland, beige food. The sweet chilli sauce was all watery??? Service very bad. Very bland fish and chips. A shame.

While the food is still good, the service is awful and the staff unhelpful. Such a pity for a restaurant that used to be very good. The toilets were small and filthy by the end of the evening and we came down with gastroenteritis 24 hours later. Won’t be going back.

I recommend this restaurant unreservedly. The food was delicious: fresh and full of flavour. The staff were pleasant and welcoming and very efficient. We will be back.

Peccato solo per le cozze immerse nella panna che non rende molto giustizia alla povera cozza...ma questi sono gusti!

Amazing food! We shared the seafood platter which was generous and delicious, more than enough for two. Sadly, the service was a little slow (we waited over 15 minutes to be offered a drink) and the toilets were in need of a total refurbishment but the food more than compensated.

Best seafood I've ever had in the UK. And please keep in mind that I've been to the Scottish Highland before. This shop still manages to surpass that.

Food was delicious and worth the wait....but the service was pretty slow on Friday night. Maybe a bread basket whilst you wait would be a nice touch for the table.

First class restaurant, lovely atmosphere, superb staff, the owner is very informative and has a good knowledge of any gluten free requirements. There were 6 in our group and everyone came away delighted with our experience at Fishers.

Our lunch today was definitely two contrasting experiences. Excellent food with some of the best dishes we've eaten - with some of the least attentive service we have experienced. Don't come here for a prompt lunch - service is really slow. We weren't in a hurry and probably would have left if we were. 3 covers and we waited 30 minutes to order at our prompting and food served 30 minutes later. The hot shellfish platter was excellent - the tempura prawn batter was really very good - and the banana fritters the best weve had. A small but good choice of wine was appreciated. Its such a shame as this food is excellent - but service is important and with so much choice we will not return or recommend. NB and now having looked through the reviews it's clear that despite the standard occasional reply thanking for the feedback and suggesting they will learn I think that's unlikely.

This restaurant came highly recommended as per different websites grading, ca. 4.4 out of 5. One would think that things should be OK. It could not be less true. I was with my wife, we visited Bristol for the long weekend and it was a no brainer to go for a seafood place. The service in this place is not existent. There are two persons, a female and a male who are supposed to run the place, take orders, bring the drinks and food, etc. But in the end one gets two headless chicken who run without even registering that you sit there waiting to order a drink for more than 20 minutes in an empty restaurant. Ordered some mussels as a starter, and for the first time in our life we got undercooked mussels. I have to admit it takes a genius to undercook mussels (something that usually needs five minutes boiling). In the end after they took the empty plates, we waited for another 25 minutes without anyone expressing any interest about our presence, the least they could have done was to ask whether we wanted any deserts. After this time I went to the till and asked to pay my bill. I was presented with the bill and surprise, surprise there was 12% service included. Never, ever again would we pay a visit to this place. I do not get the ratings, either people who give 4 or 5 stars have no idea what a quality restaurant should look like, or the things have plummeted in the last few months. It might be a combination of both, but Fishers in Bristol should be around 1.5 out of five. Rant over.

Delicious food. Very friendly too. A bit disorganised when we arrived, but once the food came, it was very nice.

Arrived at restaurant, really welcome greeting Shown to a table upstairs Ordered drinks , little slow in arriving Starters - scallops - delicious!! Mains - seabass, fish and chips , 2 x salmon with lightly curried kedgeree with prawns and lemon butter Mains arrived , all seemed ok To be fair my friend and I did eat our salmon mains and commented to ourselves that there was no sign of prawn in the dish When the server arrived to collect our plates I commented that on the menu prawns were mentioned in our main course The server said that he would pass our comment on to the kitchen A few moments later he returned to say “ the kedgeree was made made in bulk before hand and it was pot luck if you got a prawn “ Disappointed as there seemed to be no shortage of sultanas in the dish - which I had never experienced in a kedgeree before Just feel cheated

We dropped by here on a busy Saturday evening knowing nothing about the place. So pleased we did…, food was fantastic - sea bream in particular, as was the service which was very relaxed, yet attentive, to the extent of the manager noticing when I was cold and responding by offering to turn down the air con and made our children feel so welcome too. Thanks for a lovely evening.

The food is excellent but the service is awful. We were left waiting for over forty minutes before being served then had to go downstairs to ask for a wine list and a spoon for the vinegar and shallots that went with my oysters - somehow I was expected to be able to pour it over them from the (chipped) bowl. The bit at the top of the menu giving options for a drink or some olives while you ‘wait’ is ironic since no-one bothered to ask if we wanted anything while we waited. When the food came, the waitress thought oysters were mussels. Our bill was brought to us before we asked for it at the end giving the distinct impression that, having made everyone wait at the beginning (we weren’t the only ones), that they were rushing us out at the end so they could clear away. The toilet is tiny and there’s one cubicle for everyone. It was dirty and, to cap it all, we both came down with a norovirus 24 hours later which I think was from there since we didn’t go anywhere else. More love is needed to bring this restaurant up to the excellence of previous years and some training in ergonomics. It’s the second time we’ve had poor service and we were prepared to give it another go for the food but we won’t be returning.

We have eaten here many times over the years, and always have a good experience. We went again last night. The food was excellent: beautifully cooked and everything tasted so good. Our order became quite bespoke. I was hoping for tuna steak but it was not on the menu yesterday. So they took it from their wet fish counter and cooked it for me after a discussion with the staff about what I would like with it. Also, they had run out of their usual cold crevettes with salad but we said we actually prefer our crevettes hot... so they cooked some just for us. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. It's all very informal and welcoming.

This restaurant was recommended by Hotel Du Vin and we weren't let down. The restaurant has a great relaxed vibe and buzz, the food was outstanding and the restaurant team just added to the experience. Sensible prices too meant it wasn't painful on the wallet. We would come back again and again if only we lived in Bristol. Thanks Fishers for a great night.

Fantastic fresh shellfish, fish and meat restaurant. Service was friendly and fast. Seems to be a family run restaurant and the food has a feeling of homemade but with elaborate tastes. Great value

Food is amazing. Peak hour during lunch and dinner. So if you want a quiet go in between this time. Food? Excellent. Their oysters are fresh. Fish and chips portions are big. Salmon with rice is delicious. And we tried Brazilian fish soup i forgot the name but it is impeccably taste.

Food was tasty & fish super fresh, but service very poor & service charge added. They forgot about our chips, didn’t bring a side plate for fish bones and it took around 30 minutes for dessert to arrive. Was a similar experience for tables around us too.

After having had fish and chips down at Bristol Harbour and having been mildly disappointed, Fisher's fish and chips have given me my belief back: the best, crunchiest and juiciest fish I have ever tasted! Plus: the chips were even delicious after turning cold as the portions are really big! The place is not cheap, however, considering the quality of the food, justified We will definitely come again!

I used to love this place (no pun intended) However after leaving Bristol for some time and returning this was a place high on my list to revisit and I was highly disappointed. I wasn't overly impressed with the food if I'm honest. It was OK. The restaurant itself is too crammed in, and the seats were uncomfortable. I didn't feel comfortable in any aspect of my visit. Service was slow and very unintentive. Would I reccomend? No Would I go back ? No

The place was amazing, chilled atmosphere and the fish was by far the best I've ever had since living in bristol! Would like to thank Tom Powell the chef for a wonderful experience! Will definitely come back!

Been looking forward to eating here all week having read May's menu. Obviously fresh fish is fresh so menu subject to change, my fault for reading sample menu lol. Excellent selection great fresh Thai cake starter although having seen the yummy mains that other diners were having I regret the choice of the sharing platter. It was very nice but I didn't think totally worth it especially having seen the other mains. That said still yummy. Great staff and relaxed atmosphere.

Food is very good and staff are engaging and fast. Interior could do with an update and bathroom facilities aren't enough for the size

This is a truly wonderful place to enjoy a meal. A well run and well supported seafood restaurant, Fishers was the perfect setting for a delightful evening and the ideal way to enjoy one’s birthday. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant felt welcoming and despite being what appeared as a fully booked Friday evening, it did not feel crowded. My partner and I sat downstairs though there is an ‘upper deck’ with plenty more seating. Between us we ordered the bouillabaisse and mackerel paté to start with the tuna steak and whole bream for main. We were both very impressed at the quality of the food, very fresh and prepared in a way I would describe as ‘just right.’ Every dish was generous in size and consumed with hearty enthusiasm, though I simply did not have room for a sweet at the end, but I will definitely be coming back so next time I certainly will. The waiting staff are very efficient and though not as conversational as some places, they did not put a foot wrong all evening and provide a very professional service. I must thank the gentleman in the Simpsons shirt for some wonderful interactions and a fond fare well upon leaving. This is a fabulous place to eat, located in a lovely part of Clifton and I would thoroughly recommend a visit. For us it worked out at £30-£35 per head which I think was a very fair price and we will definitely be coming back soon. Many thanks.

I’ve been last Saturday 25/03/23 with my family for a Birthday Dinner. We had oysters for starters and a Mix of Prawns, Mussels and Fish for the main. The taste of the food was okay, but since we arrived at home we’ve been really sick. I’ve been trying to ring them since last Monday but until now I didn’t had a chance to speak with them so I decided to leave this review in order to let them know what is happening to us. This is not personal.

This place is obsessed with drowning the fish and vegetables and anything editable in cream, butter and oil. It's a lazy way of cooking, a cop out and totally conceals the flavour and delicacy of fish.

My favourite seafood restaurant in Bristol. Proper indie and high quality food. What I like the most is the fish counter during the day - the best fish in bristol to cook at home; fresh, local and ethically sourced. Alison and team do a great job!

Great restaurant. My partner and I have yet to have a sit down meal here but we love the takeaway fish n chips. Very reasonable price and quality food, better than what we've ever had from the usual fish n chip shop. Highly recommend the tartar sauce too. The fish on display for the restaurant looks amazing, much to chose from and the restaurant itself has a welcoming and warm atmosphere. The staff are much the same, welcoming,warm and friendly. I would recommend Fishers restaurant to anyone. Thanks guys. We will definitely be back.

I wanted to have dinner at Fishers for a while so I had high hopes. I was a bit disappointed by the staff's professionalism, maybe they were understaffed and overloaded with work. Our reservation was for 7.30 pm and we left at 11pm, so we had to wait for a while for our food to arrive. The food was tasty(but one of the portions was returned as it was cold) and we had a great wine.

They ruined my New Year’s Eve plan! I booked a table for NYE at 8pm; just few hours before the dinner, I received a message saying that they tried ringing me (not true) explaining that they had to close the restaurant for an electrical fault in the kitchen and hoping for me to find an alternative venue easily. Obviously, with such a short notice, that was not possible, so I had to stay at home. Really bad way to communicate the circumstance. Also It would have been nicer to get from them a voucher to spend in their venue, but they never replied to my answer and we will never try to book with them again.

Seafood was excellent, so I went there twice in 2 days.

Excellent food, well presented, bright atmosphere, service a little slow as regards dessert, good choice of wines.

The food was absolutely delicious. The service efficient and genuinely friendly. The heating in the restaurant was not as good as it could be so if you go in very cold weather wrap up warmly but everything else was so good I will be back

Martin, our waiter (who is also their brilliant fishmonger) took us through the fish, wine and general options in a hugely helpful, personable and personal manner. This included taking us through what was in season. We wish all restaurants were like this. Every mouthful of food and drink was absolutely awesome. Trust what he says. He gave us a taste of his own mulled wine recipe, which even the member of our party that did not normally like mulled wine, ordered some for the two of us to take away. When compared with many restaurants we have been to around the country that charge a lot more for their food, Fishers blows them away. This was an excellent all round experience, but most especially a fabulous culinary one.

Another fantastic lunch today and they even loaned me £4.50 for the parking meter. Love the ambience, the food is always excellent and not overpriced, the staff couldn’t be nicer. Their new recruit on his first shift today has just graduated on Psychology & Criminology so congrats to him !! One little criticism - I wish they’d serve baguette as well as (or instead of) sourdough . We’ll be back soon 👍👍

Food: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Setting: 5/5 @fishersrestaurant is the perfect lunch stop in the ever so perfect Clifton Village 🌸 For starter was crab and sweetcorn fritters with sweet chilli sauce... I'll say no more 😋 🦀 To follow was curried rice with smoked haddock, prawns with a creamy sauce and a generous fillet of crispy skinned salmon! The taste was incredible however the presentation could of been better... (I like a neat and tidy rice mountain 🍚⛰️) The battered cod was beautifully light and crisp. Good portion also 👌 the chunky chips were nothing special though! There is a fresh fish counter at the front too for those who love to cook with fish at home!

Had late lunch here. The salmon with lightly curried rice was great. Wife had the skaters wing which was tasty too. Fresh.

Stopped in here randomly and order 3 starters and chips to share with my girlfriend. We are no fish experts but we choose the mussels, fish cakes and calamari with a portion of chips plus a coke. What can I say but wow it was all amazing, looked great too and extremely well priced. Al of together was about £32. We are already planning our next visit for the mains. Highly recommended

This isn't a review, it's a revelation; the best seafood is in Bristol at Fishers! If you love shellfish this place prepares the tastiest dishes. The seafood platter is huge and delicious. The staff are telepathic and know what you'll like. Can't wait to come back 🦀 Thank you Fishers

Absolutely fantastic place. Food was fresh and the choice of seafood was very unique and impressive. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Wine choice was superb and over all it was very good value for money.

Fish treated with respect and good cooking, what more do you want? Great service from Alison and her team? Yep. An in-restaurant fishmongers (we regularly buy oysters and prawns)? Sure. A good, short, white-heavy wine list? Absolutely. Sit out side and watch the world of Princess Victoria St go by? Done. Have your stepsister randomly drive by and come join you for the afternoon? I can’t guarantee that last one, I’m not sure when she’s available.

Beware it is closed at afternoon! To be honest, there’s no luck to try their dishes. Very disappointed that we arrived at 2:30pm and the waiter said the restaurant will be closed at 3pm. The notice on the wall of the restaurant and the information on Google showed the opening time is from 1:00 - 7:00pm. I am not alone as there are many other guests with the same poor situation. Why the owner not update the opening time ?

Had dinner with my family here, blown away by the quality of the food and the friendly but not fussy service. We had scallops, calamari and bouillabaisse for starters, followed by mackerel, cod & chips and roast salmon. Each was cooked and flavoured perfectly...the mackerel was particularly delicious :). Wine and desserts were tasty too, all in all a great experience. Thanks for being so good!

Delicious lunch. Fish soup followed by monkfish in pancetta roasted. Served with roasted new potatoes and samphire and wine and cream sauce.

First time visit on our Anniversary. Throughly enjoyed the whole experience and will certainly recommend and return.

We visited Freshers for an evening celebratory meal in the week and were not disappointed. The customer service was impeccable, the food was delightful and the ambience was brilliant. I am so delighted we chose this restaurant, if we ever come to Bristol again we are sure to visit Freshers.

Went here with 3 other older guys, after a long days walking around the City. Food was excellent. We all had fish starter and main and a cracking bottle of white. (Well maybe two !) . I will certainly return again with the wife.

Came here last summer in 2021 for a birthday meal. Food was delicious and full of flavour, there are many choices available on the menu. The outside seating area where we sat down was surprisingly nice, and we were given blankets in case we got cold during the evening. Great service given, and our waitress was really friendly. Overall fantastic, And we would definitely visit here again when we return to Bristol in the near future.

Absolutely amazing.. We had the marinated anchovies, sardines, smoked halibut and trout pate. Followed by the Dover sole and Gilt head bream. Very friendly staff, quick service and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Came for a birthday dinner with a group of 6 friends. It was a spectacular evening and the staff were extremely accommodating and attentive. We brought our own birthday cake which the staff were able to store overnight for us so that we could go out afterwards without having to carry it with us. And the food was obviously delicious - a great plaice to visit!

We went here for dinner on the final night of our holiday and weren't disappointed. Starters of scallops and battered tiger prawns were followed by mains of mussels & fries and a crab and prawn macaroni cheese. All were excellent, with minimal waiting times, and accompanied by a nice white white. Staff were friendly and efficient despite the restaurant being very busy. Located in the vibrant Clifton area, an easy walk from the Suspension Bridge and the city centre, this was the perfect end to a day.

Just back from the restaurant and I can safely say the salmon fillet on kedgeree was the nicest dish I’ve had in a long time. My only regret is I’m not staying in the area longer so I can try another dish. Great service, great food, smiley staff….don’t need anything more, thanks 🤷‍♀️😃

We were fortunate enough to have visited during the heatwave so managed to sit outside. Staff were friendly and attentive. Both of our starters and main courses were very good indeed, i did not expect anything else. Our bill came to £70 odd including a couple of glasses of wine. I felt this was very reasonable. Place had a nice atmosphere too.
