We've used this cafe lots of times over the years and enjoyed the old world charm and tasty food. However since the cafe changed hands a while back things are not so good. The food is still enjoyable (we always have a lunch from the "specials" board), the staff friendly and polite and the ambience pleasant. Regrettably the waiting time for food has become far too long (even when the cafe isn't full), a fact borne out by complaints made by other customers during our latest visit. We overheard that the manager was away, but it appears no-one had taken over responsibility for organising an efficient service in their absence. Please get this sorted or before long you will start to lose customers!

Palm Court Café is a lovely space with a good atmosphere and beautiful views. I went with a large group of eight people for afternoon tea and we were pleasantly surprised at the good price (about £40) and everyone was very pleased with their teas, coffees, scones, and cakes. Will definitely pop in again next time I am in Harrogate!

Visited recently with family, booking was straightforward and we were all easily accommodated for, inclusive of any specific dietary requirements. Palm Court Cafe is nestled above a traditional sweet shop, and has beautiful views over the greenery and flowers of harrogate, and particularly has a stunning atmosphere on a sunny day as the sun cascades in through the lovely bay window where I try to get my favourite seat! Since first visit in spring, the decor has been quietly updated and we noted and appreciated the tasteful local art. Excellent baby changing facilities - phew! This time we went as a large family group with various dietary requirements and preferences, which were all met, including vegan, dairy-free and gluten free and general pickiness ;) There was a large selection on menu, including hot and cold food, sandwiches and cakes / scones / brownies, teas and coffees, and a few specials too, we were just there for snacks and a catch-up and that was great. Staff very patient with our elderlies’ questions and confusion, and we got to meet the owner who was very sweet and down to earth, and who bakes the cakes herself! Lovely relaxed vibe overall. Feel is nice for casual pop-ins too. Tip - If you’re local, there’s a loyalty card. Enjoy!

Weirdest experience-Baked potato not cooked and then gaslighted by the ‘chef’. She said it was cooked and if I ordered another it would just be the same. 🤣 Also ordered a sandwich that wasn’t what we ordered but we just kept it for fear of a similar outcome. The staff, including the chef, were really nice and the atmosphere is relaxed. We won’t be back though.

Have been to this cafe many times in almost 13 years. I believe it has changed hands recently, and, unfortunately, it shows. Was there as a party of 8 in late July, and today with a friend. The food is still very good, however, the service on both occasions left a lot to be desired. On the former occasion we waited and waited, so on the latter occasion I timed the wait. It took 18 minutes for someone to come to take our order, a further 5 minutes - at least - to inform me my chosen soup wasn’t available, and a total of 26 minutes to deliver two soups, a toasted melt, and a wrap to our table, having wrongly delivered it to another table before ours! As it was Saturday afternoon, I would have expected it to be very busy, if not, based on past experience, heaving. Sadly, there were less than 10 people there. I have often left a tip, although on the past 2 occasions have not done so, as I did not felt the service warranted it.

Brought my GrandDaughter in for lunch. Asked for a small plate as she is only 6. Waited for far too long for a quick toasted sandwich & a cold wrap. Had to ask if they were going to be very much longer. Specifically asked for just cheese & tuna for my GrandDaughter, which eventually arrived containing spring onions. Huge Adult portion. The cafe had the cheek to add on 30p to an already expensive, tiny cup of coffee for using Oat milk. None of the food was fantastic, it was ok. No one asked if we were happy with our lunch or had enjoyed it. Had I been in different company I would have said something. Really dis appointing visit. Won't be returning. What a missed opportunity, because the place is in a prime location. With so few customers today, the staff might do better to take care of them properly.

Although we'd used this cafe many times in the past, it was disappointing today. The service was slow and the food was not as good as it used to be. I had baked potato with tuna, and the amount of salad with it was really small. It would be better to provide more salad and cut out the useless bits of fruit. In addition, croutons and beetroot aren't all that appretising.

In Harrogate on a Sunday having visited the Xmas market and looking for somewhere to sit down for a hot drink. Everywhere was really busy or uninviting. Ended up wandering down Montpellier. Passed one we’d been in before - no space. Wandered in here. Didn’t seem inviting from the ground floor. Went upstairs to see if they could fit six in. They were lovely and created an area for us. Exotic hot chocolates for some and the special (yummy treacle tart and clotted cream) for others. Took a little while to take our order and then deliver it, but it was worth it. We’ll be back, but directly next time!

Amidst the frenzy of tea rooms in Harrogate, the maid's uniforms, the silver type teapots, this was my favourite. We had a lovely tea, coffee and cake here and the food coming out of the kitchen looked great. Maybe because the owners didn't have to pay for the historical frills, the prices were very reasonable.

Finding a gluten free lunch in Harrogate was proving difficult on a busy Saturday but we were lucky to stumble upon this place which has a good range of gluten free food. I enjoyed a delicious gf chicken & bacon quiche with salad, including what seemed to be a homemade beetroot relish (superb!) & even gf croutons. My husband had a chorizo tart which he said was excellent. I wish the bigger establishments would take note - people with food intolerances still need to eat but many simply do not cater for us anymore. Service was great, cleanliness too, they were very careful to clean tables & chairs between customers.

The second visit was for soup (pea and mint) after a chilly walk around valley gardens. It's above the Farrah's shop on Montpellier Hill but is quite spacious for an upstairs cafe. It's over two floors so we climbed a second flight of stairs to the Garden Room. Seated next to the window you get a lovely view of the Crown roundabout. After looking at the menu we chose Ploughman's lunches. I had a Yorkshire cheese one and JD had the pork pie one. Both £6.25. There were plenty of other options around £5 including Toasted Sandwiches, Rarebit and Soups. We always have water to drink and it came served with ice and lemon. Lovely on such a warm day. The food was well presented and looked appetising. Especially the doorstop bread and butter served with the Ploughman's. Palm Court Cafe make everything they serve themselves and the bread was delicious. JD's pork pie was a huge slice and it had chorizo in it which gave it a nice flavour (he let me have a bite). We polished off the lot. They serve quite a large range of teas and coffees. They also have a lot of delicious looking homemade cakes. The deaf cappuccino and americano although not as big tasted well. There was some tastey looking cakes whilst the tea room also does lunches. The staff were very friendly and I'd definitely go back.

Called in for a light lunch. Both had "Yorkshire rarebit". Tasted ok but, overpriced for what it was. Staff friendly but, service very slow.

A well recommended tea room we visited for afternoon tea with family and friends before we all went our separate ways. This establishment provided a great friendly service, offering a wide variety of excellent foods whilst catering for all dietary needs with a knowledge to match. Our pleasurable visit should be experienced by Harrogates visitors.

Located above Farrah's sweet shop the Palm Court is quite an old fashioned tea room but none the worse for that. The access is not ideal for those with limited mobility but the service is good and on our visit there was an excellent selection of cakes at reasonable prices. I had hot chocolate which was very good & served with a small piece of chocolate brownie which made it extra special.

On a wet morning in Harrogate we came across this café whilst looking around the downstairs chocolate store. The special board looked very attractive whether for meals or cakes and I particularly enjoyed the treacle tart with cream and a pot of tea at an inexpensive price.

We found this place as it is on Tastecard, as I can't imagine we would have noticed that it was a cafe from just walking past as the cafe itself is above a sweet shop.

We stumbled across this by accident ! We were going to visit the shop downstairs to get fudge etc but saw the sign for a cafe upstairs so thought we would try it out - glad we did as it was a cosy relaxed cafe, alright not as nice as Bettys but then this place hasnt got Bettys prices ! Good coffee and a slice of cake - yum ! All served by a nice young man.

After a pub lunch my friend and I decided that a coffee and a cake would be a great idea and a few minutes later we chanced upon this shop which has a massive range of speciality chocolates and old fashioned sweets and a delightful café upstairs.

Staying Harrogate we wanted a bite to eat, family run ie not a huge chain coffee shop. Oh wow did this certainly tick the boxes. The menu was written in food heaven. Everything homemade. I had pork sage n apple pie which was presented with fresh chunky bread and butter, hand cut salad, with so much flavour it really would knock the socks off any 5☆ restaurant. The pork pie you could see was NOT full of the pink colourings that most pies are. The flavours was subtle but delicious. The Belvoir ginger beer, isnt as common as it should be, so was a treat. Americano coffee was as it should be. My partner enjoyed her Yorkshire tea with cheese pie follow by the amazingly huge and delicious treacle tart and clotted cream. All this for LESS than £20.

Kinda stumbled upon the Palm Court by accident, but very fortunately for us, we had a wonderful lunch with our 3 year old daughter and the food and service were fantastic. Thanks for the great food on a wee bit of a dreich and drizzly day.

This cafe is situated above a sweet shop in a delightful part of Harrogate. To access the cafe you need to climb the stairs. The food was very tasty, with a particularly delectable display of cakes and scones. The servings were generous and the staff were very welcoming and efficient. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant, and there are some wonderful framed photographs of the Harrogate area displayed on the walls. Cards and prints of these photographs can be purchased from the cafe. My mother and I had morning tea here and enjoyed it so much we returned for a late lunch. Good value for money.

The staff are great. They accommodated our new baby and made sure we had room for the pram. The food is the best quality whenever we come. Every time we come it makes me think why we didn't eat there before this year!.

Stumbled on this little eatery while visiting Knaresborough on a Sunday lunch time. We went in to get maybe a sandwich and thought it wasn’t going to be great to be honest but ended up having a cooked lunch and it was so good! The place was busy and you could tell they were locals as they were chatting across to each other. We looked at the menu and decided to have have a cooked meal. I ordered pie chips and peas and my husband a burger with chips salad and coleslaw and a pot of tea. You could actually get a 3 course Sunday lunch for £14.50! When mine came there were no peas but another bowl soon arrived full of fresh vegetables and a big jug of gravy. Food was really good the staff were lovely. The lady said that as she had been cooking Sunday lunches she gave me some of the veg. We were thoroughly impressed and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Great food and great value for money! Definitely worth trying!

Recently stayed for 3 nights whilst at a conference. All of the staff were incredibly welcoming and chatty, room (no.4) was clean, comfortable, spacious and homely. The Full Yorkshire Breakfast was the absolute star of the show, best I've had in years, and the location spot on for the town centre shops and bars and conference centre. Highly recommend staying here

Popped in whilst looking for a quick lunch. Very unusual setting for a tea room but works well with about 10 tables set up between the pews & the altar. The pews act as an overflow area if all tables are taken but we arrived as one was being vacated. Very friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent value for money. Menu is limited to a choice of rolls, soup and a tempting range of homemade cakes & scones. Rolls could have improved if pickle, mustard or mayonnaise had been offered but the cakes & scones made up for this as they were very nice. The church itself is a delightful building and worth a visit in it’s own right. An interesting alternative lunch option.
