Stayed here for a week with the family. It was ok, the room was a good size, the decor was great. Prices were absolutely amazing, specially knowing it is a seaside town, and a silver service restaurant.

We popped into the Palace this morning, 21st August, for coffee. A peaceful cup of coffee, or so we thought. First up, the receptionist asked if we could find a table" not made up for lunch" in the conservatory (there weren't any!) so we felt like naughty children sitting at a 'wrong' table. I assured her we'd not make a mess and we'd clear up any crumbs!

I can only say that the difference in the hotel from 2 years ago is dramatic. For the exception of Paul the dining room waiter and the housekeeping team, I found most of the staff very rude and unatentative .I observed that unless you were of a certain age(70+) you really didn't exist. The hotel only really caters for the elderly.

This hotel has plenty of free parking, had much needed complimentary drinks on arrive , room was clean , slightly dated and would benefit from air condioning . Breakfast was nice , 6 course evening meal was excellent . One evening we booked through the hotel a trip to the theatre at first we were told evening meal would be served at 5.45pm , but on picking up our tickets the time changed to 6.25pm as there was only us going from our hotel bit of a rush to eat our meal , we skipped dessert as a result . Entertainment was ok just a shame we saw same singer twice on our stay, magician was excellent . Only used spa once . Pool was a decent size , shame Jacuzzi wasn't working but steam and sauna was nice. All staff excellent especially waiting staff in restaurant very friendly and helpful . Bar needs 2 staff on duty as often had to wait as no bar person there . Overall fab holiday would come again and would recommend.

Good facilities, great location and ideal for older relatives with the type of evening entertainment. We enjoyed our stay but not many young children present and I feel the hotel is not best suited for younger children in my opinion. We would stay here again as the location is fantastic and the beach, shops and restaurants are all just a short walk away. Felt the reception staff were some what rude at times and glared at you rather than being approachable. Waiting staff and lady in charge during breakfast were very good, professional and could not do enough for you.

We had our christmas party at the Palace Hotel this year. There were 24 of us in our party, and i was surprised to see all our food come out at the same time. We had a choice of 3 menu,s which had to be selected in advance. One of us was a vegan, and i have a lot of food intolorances. The hotel helped and let us have meals that were not on the christmas menu. All the food was hot and well presented and delicious. Water on the tables was free and drinks could be ordered at the table and paid for after. 3 courses and then coffee or tea. And a surprise..... Santa came and gave us a gift each. Well worth the money. Fun was had by all. The staff are all very profesional. The hotel was decorated beautifully. I hope we go back there next year. As well as the hotel they have a swimming pool and gym.

Visited first week in October and the weather was good all week so it certainly adds to the holiday experience. The room we had was an executive double with a sea view which was excellent size room with a separate bathroom. The restaurant was very pleasant and the food and service was brilliant. We only had one negative about the whole week of our stay and that was on two mornings the breakfast was virtually cold. The evening meals were very good with an excellent choice and the quality was also very good. If you like entertainment this is good but if you want a quiet drink and a read this is not available. The Palace is situated in an excellent position with easy access to Paignton centre and the sea front. Plenty of parking is available so no problems to use your car to visit all the visitor attractions. Already booked to visit next year in the same room.

We arrived early and were welcomed with a complimentary drink and biscuits which we chose to have in the garden. Our room, although the cheapest available, was large with a lovely bath/shower and tea/coffee making facilities. It also had opening windows which is rather a treat in itself. The bed was big and there were two tub chairs, a nice tv and it was all very comfortable. The restaurant manager 'Sue' has worked there for 32 years and she was amazing. She was very welcoming and there was an excellent choice of food on offer and it arrived quickly and was very hot and all the staff were very attentive. The hotel was very busy and had a lovely atmosphere. The following morning we enjoyed a full English breakfast which was also excellent. The hotel is opposite the pier and there are numerous lovely walks on your doorstep. The open top bus passes by regularly and there are boat trips to Torquay and Brixham from the nearby harbour. Before leaving for our early evening train home we enjoyed an afternoon tea. This was beautifully presented on a 3 tier serving plate and consisted of our choice of triple decker sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate cake and macaroons and a large pot of tea all on a bone china tea set. It tasted delicious and again the service was good. There is a large lounge where you can sit quietly and a very nice bar. We didn't try the leisure facilities as we only stayed for one night. Every member of staff we spoke to was most courteous, nothing was too much trouble and they all made us feel very special and made the occasion memorable.

I had to ask for them to take our order and since they have taken my order it had now been 30 mins and I have just received my coffee and toast. The coffee has arrived cold. No sign of breakfast. We were presented with a choice of sandwiches which were then freshly made and while we waited, tea was brought to our table, which we enjoyed while we chatted. The afternoon tea arrived, and it really was lovely, club sandwiches with crusts removed - prawn with rose marie sauce, beef with horseradish, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and ham and cheese - lovely scones, plain and fruit, with jam and clotted cream, tiny choux pastry eclairs, mini pear and apricot tarts, and lovely chocolate and sponge cakes, all very well presented. And with the food we were served fresh pots of tea. What more can I say? This is a truly lovely place for afternoon tea, and I could not recommend it more highly than giving it a 5* rating. Called in here for sandwiches and coffee just over a week ago. This is an establishment that is well-liked and well-supported by both vistiors to the area and residents alike, and we were amazed to see every table in the conservatory either with people already having a meal or with a Reserved label. We were therefore invited to eat in the restaurant where there were, I think, about ten people already enjoying their lunch, and then they got up, one of them suggesting that they resume their work - it was obviously some away-day for a company, and the lounge had been reserved for them for their meeting. We were now in the large dining room in splendid isolation, but the staff are excellent and we weren't overlooked. It wasn't long before we were able to order a round of sandwiches (which we share - I've mentioned this before so I won't go over old ground) and coffee, and taking into account how busy the staff were (and therefore the kitchen brigade) it wasn't long before our meal arrived. As always everything was fine, a nice round of beef sandwiches, salad on the side, chips and coffee with biscuits. The only teeny-weeny black mark was the piped musak which was a tad too loud. Husband and I couldn't hear each other speak, so we asked the waitress if it might be turned down. It was, but before long it became louder again. This is the only fault with almost every eatery we visit: background noise masquerading as music. Even in the loo there is no escape! Only joking, but oh, how we long for a restaurant/café that is quiet and peaceful!

The Palace is, once again, our regular stopping-off place between a walk and home or shopping and home. Always friendly-faced staff greet us and although they are always busy, they are never too busy to say hello or stop for a minute or two for a chat. We have a tendency to have sandwiches and half pints of beer, we only want a light lunch, and sometimes we even share a round and ask for an extra plate, and also a shared portion of chops or sweet potato chips. Or, if feeling hungry, I will have the wild mushrooms in port and stilton sauce on a toasted brioche (a starter or light meal) and husband will have a full round of beef sandwiches. Indeed, while I really enjoy this particular starter, it is rich and I often struggle to finish it - how people can eat that as a starter and then a meal and possibly a dessert defeats me! But portions are larger today than when I was growing up, hence our choosing starters instead of main courses. Before our meal is served, the beers usually arrive and, with them, a dish of peanuts and olives, a very nice touch. Coffee or tea, if we have that, is always served with delicious biscuits. With free parking and a lovely view over Paignton Green, a spotlessly clean conservatory in which to eat, and friendly staff, what more could one wish for? Small wonder we return, again, and again, and again ...(We also brought some rellies with us in Oct, who were on holiday and staying with us, and they enjoyed their visit, too.)

We made a last minute booking for a weekend away and were looking forward to "Spoiling" ourselves, having booked an Executive room. The room was spacious with a beautiful view over Paignton green, the pier and the sea and at night you could actually hear the sea if the window was open. We were rather surprised that there was a dress code for dinner as there was no mention of this on the website and, as we had only packed a few things for a weekend away, this was an issue for us. We approached Reception for reassurance and this was not forthcoming - along the lines of they thought it would probably be alright. Our first dinner was spoilt as we felt really underdressed (It was only as others were leaving we could see that the dress code was not enforced). Thank goodness for Paul in the restaurant who perceptively picked up that we were feeling uncomfortable! I am sure Duchy already know this - but he is a thoroughly outstanding member of your team. He made time for everyone in the restaurant and is a true gentleman. As for the other staff we found them to be professional but a bit bland. It didn't help that the main entertainer for Saturday evening, we were told, was not performing because there was a wedding booking in the function room. I don't really understand the reason for this but Paula was singing instead and it was a pleasure to listen to her.The Palace Hotel itself is lovely and the facilities, food and service all really good. It's just our personal preference that we like things just a touch less formal. We usually stay at the Queens Hotel (Also Duchy group) and find that to still be classy but a little more to our taste - perhaps because we have been there many times we feel much more welcome and relaxed there.

We always visit the Palace Hotel for lunch when in Paignton. Why? Because, any day of the week we can enjoy an excellent, well-prepared lunch at a most reasonable price in a most civilised, semi-formal, pleasantly old-fashioned but relaxing atmosphere with first class service in their cosy interior or in the gardens on a warm sunny day. If there is value for money in the area as good as this then I have yet to find it. May it continue.

We needed a quick break ,so we chose the Palace Hotel in Paignton for it. We were glad we did. The room was not huge, but comfortable and cosy, lovely and clean, and we were very happy with it. The staff were so helpful, friendly and obliging and nothing was too much trouble. Caroline, the deputy manager is a treasure, and very kind , and took time to help us with what ever we needed. Every member of staff, without exception were cheerful friendly and kind. The restaurant is lovely, service was very good, and the food was delicious.. Breakfast was the same, and again, nothing was too much trouble for them, even though at times they were busy. We are going back next month with our grandchildren, and I have no doubt that we will have a very happy stay. A little gem in Paignton.

The Palace is fast becoming our 'local' again; I have visited on no less than four occasions in the past seven days, three times with my husband for coffee and toasted tea cakes, a staging post on our sea front walk, and once for lunch with a friend. Toasted tea cakes and coffee are lovely for a mid-walk repast, by the time we've circumnavigated the Green, having walked from Preston, we're ready to rest our legs. It being mild we have been able to enjoy sitting on the veranda, with the Green - now without the Circus or the Funfair - in front of us and which is fast returning to being simply a lovely wide open space, with the sea beyond. Service is fast and efficient, with friendly staff.Lunch yesterday with my friend was equally good. I chose a light meal, wild mushrooms in a creamy Stilton sauce on brioche, and my friend had courgette soup and instead of bread requested a side order of sweet potato chips. I'd not had these before and I can thoroughly recommend them, they surely must be the healthiest of chips!

Really lovely hotel. Comfortable beds, dinner was excellent - 6 courses! Breakfast was not such a great experience. We waited over 5 minutes to be seated and then another 25 minutes before getting our tea and coffee. The actual breakfast was lovely so it's a shame as we felt this let the hotel down and this is the reason I didn't give it 5 star. The room was very hot as well, no air con. When we opened the windows the noise of the funfair wasn't great (although this obviously was a traveling fair so not always there). Despite this I would recommend this hotel as it was very nice other than this hiccup. We had a wonderful massage in the beauty rooms attached to the hotel and the entertainment in the evening was very good as well. Staff very friendly.

I always enjoy visiting The Palace Hotel. It is beautifully located close to the sea front. It has a wonderful area for sitting outside with plenty of comfortable seating. The staff are always very friendly and professional. The biscuits that accompany the tea and coffee are fabulous and are complimentary. They are homemade and incredibly tasty with a great texture and bake. A cappuccino, latte and tea for one came to just £8.00, which is good value. It is well worth visiting just for the biscuits, though I have previously enjoyed lunch at The Palace and the food is really very good.

We had not a meal at The Palace Hotel before and decided to visit for Sunday lunch. There was a choice of at least five items for each course and it was particularly gratifying for our vegetarian friend to have more than one item to choose from. The food was well cooked, well presented, and full of flavour, and - a rare treat these days - there was a plentiful supply of vegetables, served by silver service. The waiting service was excellent. This three-course table d'hote meal represents great value for money. We expect to be returning soon

Stayed for 3 nights in July. The public area's were clean, well maintained and pleasant. The bar prices were reasonable and the entertainment not overly encompassing. The room I was allocated had a fantastic view of the harbour but was generally in need of some maintenance. The wall paper was scuffed and marked, the under window heater had a covering panel missing, the toilet roll holder was loose, the cupboard door didn't close properly and I couldn't find the TV remote control. The room was however clean. Overall it was a pleasant stay and I probably would use this hotel again but really hope they can do something about the maintenance.

We were in Paignton this morning and decided to break our stroll around the sea front (a one-mile route) having coffee at the Palace Hotel. It was mild enough, even though there was a breeze, to sit on the veranda. What a lovely hotel this is, welcoming staff and sufficient coffee in the pot for two drinks each, with two rather nice biscuits each, too. I do recommend this hostelry as a 'stop off' point if you're taking a stroll around the sea front - and it's looking even smarter than before now the scaffolding has been removed and the hotel's pristine, white façade can be seen in all it's glory.

I like The Palace Hotel in Paignton. It is really smart and the best hotel in Paignton by a long way. It is lovely both inside and outside. There is a lovely conservatory in which to eat your lunch, or fabulous seating with sea views if it is a sunny day! The service and staff are great, very attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed, but bustling. The lunch was very nice and unpretentious. There is a large choice of food and it is good value money. My club sandwich and fries were on point and clearly freshly made. The Palace Hotel is a nice place to spend a few hours and I can tell you that their homemade biscuits with their tea, are mighty fine and moorish! A top spot in Paignton and Torbay.

Just spent a delightful weekend at the Palace in Paignton on a coach trip with Edwards Coaches.Thr moment we arrived we were greeted by Naz, the manager who set the tone for our enjoyable stay. We were invited for a complementary tea or coffee while our luggage was taken from the coach directly to our rooms. Naz then explained the dining times and facilities. When that was over we went to our room which had an ensuite with bath and overhead shower, sink and toilet. Complementary toiletries were also provided. The room was clean. A nice touch was the Corby trouser press although I didnt use it this time. My wife wanted to press her clothes and reception sent up an ironing board for us.The food was exquisite and there was a great choice even for someone with a restrictive diet. We were served in the restaurant by Ivana on 3 nights and she put up with my slightly varied requests, for example on one night i did not wish to have one of the starters and she brought me an extra sorbet. Nice touch. My wife wanted to try the muscles but wasnt sure, Ivana suggested she try them and if she didnt like them to order something else. Top marks for customer service must go to Ivana as she was really helpful catering for the needs of a group of 6 of us.Although an excellent hotel, some things that could be improved (albeit minor), on arrival perhaps a soft drink and not just a tea/coffee could be made available and possibly something for diabetics would be nice. At the bar if you order a pint of soft drink like diet coke, I had to ask the barman David to top it up to a pint a couple of times. As I said these were minor things and intended to let the hotel improve an already exceelent experience.

I'm only on the 2nd night of a 3 night stay but I'm so impressed, I couldn't leave it another day before I wrote this. I've come to Paignton on a 3 night coach break. I genuinely don't know quite where to begin. We arrived just after 3.30 pm on Friday afternoon. While our cases were taken up to the rooms, we enjoyed 'proper' coffee, tea and locally made biscuits. I'm travelling on my own as a disabled widow, and my requests had been more than met. The hotel itself is a beautiful building which was originally the home of the Singer Family - sewing machines. It's very modern and easily accessible through the foyer to the lounges, bar and restaurant. I wasn't expecting one of the 'best' rooms, but as per my request for a room not far from a lift, and if at all possible, a double bed as I'm a terribly restless sleeper - I truly seem to be staying in a 'Palace'!I could happily rave for hours about everything including the beautiful bathroom, but I don't want to lose your attention. Evening meal - 6 incredibly beautiful courses. Choice amazing, and that's only the set menu!Restaurant elegantly set with crisp white linen. Service unbeatable with superb staff. Beds amazing (hard to force yourself to get up, but, really large variety of options for breakfast). Help, I want to stow away somewhere. If all this isn't enough, there's also different entertainment each night, a health spa, a heated swimming pool and the nicest most knowledgeable staff you could ever hope to find.Have to go now because it's dinner time!If you have a bucket list of things to do before. . . . do yourself a big favour and come to stay here

We returned to the Palace Hotel today after an absence of more than 18 months. It was a spur of the moment decision while we were out walking. We were warmly welcomed, almost as old friends, by several members of staff who recognised us, which was a very good start. After choosing a table in the conservatory, we were presented with menus (and tasty nuts and olives to nibble while we decided on our order) and were delighted to see that the menu had been completely overhauled, with lots of choices to tempt us. In the end we chose ham, eggs and chips with salad for husband, and antipasti for myself. We didn't have to wait long before our meal arrived. It was all well-presented, and my antipasti was excellent - parma ham, chorizo, salami, a little dish containing both black and green olives, two hot crusty wholemeal mini-baguettes, butter, and a green salad. An excellent selection which went down nicely with my half pint of best bitter. Husband said his ham was delicious, and plentiful, too. We are glad we returned to the Palace; as I said in my review 18 months ago - along with comments which were intended as constructive criticism - this is a really lovely place for lunch. It is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the staff - who play as important a role in any hostelry as much as the cuisine - are friendly, polite and professional. After today's experience, a meal we very much enjoyed, and at a very reasonable price, we certainly intend to return.

Good: Position right on the sea front opposite the pier. Parking on site with lots of space and strange password-on-exit system. Rooms are good to very good with big comfy double beds (actually 2 singles together) Breakfast is fresh and tasty with lots of choice. Freebies were tea and bickies on arrival, bucks fizz before dinner on first night, fruit in the room and a free mug each. Bad: Dinner was typical for hotels these days with every corner cut. The meringue had never seen an egg white, the meats were interchangeable in flavour and the veg was watery. The food almost always tasted of something not on the menu.Very Bad: Given that the clientelle spans the 60-85 age group the very loud music in the evenings is a damn stupid idea. They have an entertainer with amplification dishing out tribute versions of every cliche "artiste" from the past. This plus Bingo at top volume means you have nowhere to retreat to for a nice G&T, a bit of a read after dinner or even sleep before 11pm because the room reverberated with a jangled cacophony of "Que Sera, Sera plus many, many, many others accompanied by massed bass guitars every "£$%& night. A deal breaker for me meaning no return...ever.Very Good: The staff who strive to raise the tone, are friendly and helpful and are this hotel's best asset.

I called the hotel twice to query that they could cater for a vegan and coeliac diet for a lunch party of friends. They said they could so l ordered the meals we wanted over the phone to make it easier. When we arrived today in the restaurant they initially said they had no record of the reservation request. The waitress was helpful and returned saying we could both be catered for. My tagine was kidney beans, peas, courgettes, onion and chickpeas in a watery solution with sultanas. It was dire and for £8.95 a rip off. Don't visit if you have a dietary need . I won't be returning. It seems the chef throw the meal together using whatever he had at hand.

Joined the palace hotel spa and gym ,with my wife .Only used a few times busy schedule with work .As per there protocols at the time I finished ,had to write a letter with the given amount of time lapse as required ,my wife took the letter in handed it to the staff on duty who duly read it and told my wife that it was fine and everything wouldd be sorted and there was nothing else to do .We took that they would then terminate all transactions with me.Quite dismayed when I happened to look @a bank statement for February and the palace hotel and spa were still taking there £26 still .Immediately rang the spa and spoke to a representative there who said it was my fault ,he then passed me on to his supervisor who said it was my fault and had I filled in their termination form,I recounted that my wife handed in the letter ,I pointed out the fact again and as my wife was next asked her and she recounted that she handed in the letter their rep read it and did not mention anything about a formOtherwise we would of filled that in ,he basically said it would not of happened that way as it is policy .I asked he was calling my wife a liar he then repeated it was policy .I canceld the direct debit with the bank .This a warning to others who join this spa ,do not be like me and trust such a respectable establishment , I feel I have been taken for a ride and they did not want to discuss this properly with me so if you belong to the spa and are thinking of leaving don't follow there rules and believe they will terminate everything ,if you're thinking of leaving them then cancel the standing order first then terminate the membership .This may sound like a rant but it's intended as a warning .

To Paignton Seafront and there to meet with friends at the imposing looking Palace Hotel, to take tea in the lounge as non resident guests and later a cream tea with jam and scones. Driving into the grounds I was immediately struck by the fact that there has been much well spent investment by Duchy Hotels, who apparently own two other hotels in Torbay and have recently purchased the forlorn looking 'Kistor' in Torquay which is to be refurbished and re opened next year. The car park is clean and neat and well laid out in the garden. The ground floor interior all looks newly refurbished and has struck a style which is both contemporary but making the most of traditional features. We found it very clean and a relaxing environment in which to meet our friends and enjoy some food away from the main restaurant. The staff were all neatly turned out polite, helpful and cheerful, a credit to themselves and whoever trains them. The food and drinks were fine and not overpriced for a venue of this quality. I have nothing adverse to say about this fine hotel and will be returning to it for lunch or dinner, and will be recommending it to friends from elsewhere looking far a hotel in Torbay.
