Although we have eaten here numerous times (lunch and dinner) I usually hold back to make sure the standard is constant. We have not been disappointed. We then invited friends and after asked for their comments. They agreed with us and were impressed with the food the service and the cleanliness of the venue. This is slightly off the beaten track and unless you know the area would pass it by, However you would miss a pleasant experience .it is not only for the owners....Bear in mind the food is prepared on site and is fresh but worth waiting for.Bri.

We visit the bistro every time we visit our time share at Undescar which is attached to Oxleys bistro. It is very convenient for the apartments with a lovely choice of food and drink on the menu. The furnishings are very comfortable and staff helpful and attentive. A really enjoyable meal. The bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday to everyone and is worth the tricky journey up the lane from Keswick if you are not staying on site.

We were staying in one of the Underscar timeshares and on the first evening after a long drive to get there we chose to eat out in the Bistro. As it was a Sunday evening there was a set menu. The menu had a good choice. There was a red meat, white meat, fish and vegetarian option. The food was superbly cooked and very well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. They had a high chair we could use for our 16 month old. We look forward to returning here again.

We have stayed at Underscar a few times and have always eaten at the Oxley's Bistro. This time we enjoyed two meals. The first was Sunday lunch where the roast beef was served medium rare, exactly as ordered. The veg were fresh and piping hot. Our second meal was an evening meal where my wife and I both chose the roast pheasant special which was an excellent choice. Our young granddaughter wanted salmon and this was soft and tasty. I would certainly recommend that people staying at Underscar support this excellent restaurant.

My wife and I took a couple of friends to Oxley's Bistro for Sunday lunch, and what a wonderful lunch we had. My starter of goats cheese, sun blushed tomato and asparagas salad was a lovely opener, while our friends soon polished off their spiced duck and prune terrine with fruit chutney. Two of us moved on to the roast rib eye of lakeland beef with yorkshire pudding and horse raddish sauce. They described their beef as one of the best tasting meals they've had in a long while. The baked fillet of salmon with prawn and chervil butter was delicious. All the vegetables were fresh and local. The meal was washed down with a lovely Tasmanian red wine with a beautiful colour and a wonderful taste. Only one of our party said they could manage a sweet, but when the key lime pie came there was a lot of sharing going on. And, what value, two courses at £12.95, three courses for £15.95. The service was excellent and very friendly. I enjoyed my meal at Oxley's so much I intend to return in a few days time.

We had a lovely meal at Oxley's on the last night of our stay at the nearby Underscar timeshare appartments. The quality of the food was a lot higher than I was expecting - the portions are substantial and the level of cooking is on a par with any of the nearby gastropubs in Keswick.I had a great steak and ale pie (perfect for a cold winter's night) and my wife had a very good chicken breast and chorizo with creamed potatoes, but there were several other dishes on the menu we'd like to have tried.Children are also well catered for - smaller portions of the main dishes are available (with a 30% discount), or there's a separate children's menu. My 3y/old daughter chose pasta and sausages from the children's menu, and it came with proper butcher's sausages and a made-from-scratch tomato sauce in a large serving.Prices were reasonable - £10-13 for main courses and £4-6 for starters, but well worth it for the portion size and quailty of the cooking.Wine list is good - plenty to drink by the glass or by the half-bottle, and nice to see a selection of organic wines which were decently priced. Nice beers as well - I had a Samuel Smith's Organic Lager with my starter which was lovely.Atmosphere was good - due to a heavy snowfall that afternoon there were only a few tables occupied so it was a bit more subdued than it might otherwise be, but the weekend before it had been fully booked. Serving staff were attentive and flexible but unobtrusive (which is pretty much ideal).Oxley's is on the road up to the main Skiddaw path and Latrigg carpark, just outside Keswick, so it's well worth considering if you've had a day on the hills. If you're lucky you may also see some of the local red squirrels playing outside while you're there!

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
