Down to earth basic tasty food. Good portion size. Plenty of outside space for warm days.

Visited with a colleague for lunch...she had been several times before and recommended the food.

With the current plethora of twee tea rooms and coffee shops in most towns, it was a pleasant change to visit the Owl’s Nest, which is a nice, ordinary cafe - and I mean that as a compliment.

Cafe at No 4

28/10/2018: Bring your own wine, get three courses of fabulousness for £35 (that's on a Saturday cheaper in the week). Payment in cash. Really good food, I had salmon and crab lasagna starter, roast hake with samphire and cauliflower main and chocolate sphere to finish ... and yes it did melt when the hot chocolate sauce was poured on. Excellent meal and so easy to budget
05/11/2018: Been here yearly since it opened and again we were not disapponited.

The Cawdor Restaurant

18/02/2019: The food choice was vast and tasted amazing. The service was second to none. We had the Valentines 5 course menu one night and then the set menu the other - both had really good choices.
27/02/2019: We often find starters sound more interesting than the main courses so chose 2 starters each: grilled goats cheese salad, smoked salmon and crayfish and then we both ordered the Welsh rarebit tartlet. All scrummy and delicious and certainly quite big enough to satisfy our smaller appetites. More importantly, it meant that we also had room for dessert - white chocolate cheesecake and a glorious Pavlova. Both desserts came with a generous serving of blackcurrant coulis. Absolutely delicious! We thought the price for this standard of cooking was very reasonable. Service was professional and friendly.
