We called in several times during our week’s stay in Porthleven & it wasn’t great, to be honest. The regulars seem a decent bunch & there is something going on most nights. Meat raffle, bingo or live music, to name a few. I am a cask ale drinker but I didn’t enjoy either of the two different cask ale’s I tried. The first was obviously the bottom of the barrel & the barmaid swapped it, but the replacement didn’t taste right either. I tried them two nights running & I ended up drinking San Miguel, which was fine.

Ordered a pint of middle and couldn't see through it as it was that murky. Having drunk middle all of my adult life I know that it's a dark but clear pint. The excuse from the overweight barmaid was that they've moved their celler around today so it might take a while to settle. I wouldn't bother visiting this place unless you like beeing ripped off or enjoy bad guts .didnt drink any of it minus five stars for the rip of pub and bar staff that haven't a clue about beer .

On arriving was rudely spoken to by a person in a group of 3 seated correctly in the bar area (vigourous swearing despite being asked to speak civily) before being seated. Clearly I was deemed not a local and was ignored by the barman ( was not a woman)who was not interested in my complaint. I stayed for a couple of drinks and the atmosphere relaxed slightly. Not a very welcoming place for tourists. I am a local by the way have lived here for 33 years but have never seen customer service this bad. I am happy to speak to bar manager/owner of this place if they are interested in suggestions in making this a more welcome environment. If you require a more friendly spot then I would suggest a short walk into the viilage centre.

Pleasant stay with the exception of the last night. Site security could be improved as there were a rowdy group of people who seemed to think it was alright to have a party the early hours of the morning. This was not okay. They were shouting and arguing at the top of their voices with absolutely no consideration for other holiday makers on the site. It was antisocial behaviour. I doubt this would have occured if there had been a warden on site at the time of the said incident. Also the site fee was quite expensive. I stayed at the camp site ten years ago and there was a chap called Bill who was present on the site and he was very helpful and obliging. What has happened to these values? Nowadays they are hard to find.

We were here for a christening and it was a very busy pub. Done out really well, very clean and a real character of a place where you can sit back and enjoy a pint of blue anchor beer which is made in the other pub in helston which has its own micro brewery. A real gem which also has a caravan park.

This pub is a sister freehouse to the Blue Anchor in Helston. As a consequence, it sells Spingo ales. I quite liked the Flora Daze and Jubilee IPA. They also sold Tanqueray gin and Fevertree tonic, so my wife was pleased. The staff were helpful and friendly. Prices were reasonable. There seemed to be music or other events going on most evenings. It was busy a lot of the time, mainly with locals avoiding the pricier harbourside pubs full of tourists. It felt like a proper community pub and had a nice atmosphere It has a campsite attached to it called Mill Lane Camping.

Four of us were holidaying in Porthleven. In one of the tourist brochures we read of a permanent photographic exhibition in the Out of the Blue pub so decided to make a lunchtime visit (Sunday 14th April). We arrived at 11.30 and spent a few minutes looking at the photos in the lobby. The barman came out and asked "are you coming in for a drink then?" in an aggressive manner. We all hesitated to answer because of his attitude. He then slammed the door in our faces and said "this is a pub, not a museum". Obviously we didn't go in for a drink! We were all really shocked at his rudeness.

We were there on the night the local table topping football club was playing and its a nicer pub than it looks like from the outside. They sell the range of beers available from the Blue Anchor in Helston, hence the name, and it is also the headquarters of the Porthleven photographic society and the walls are covered in dozens of dramatic black and white photos of the area which will take you a whole evening to look at. It’s a bit canteen like and they don’t do food but its worth a couple of pints to look a round.

Although its not in the main part of the town (its out by the football club) we were recommended to visit by friends, and so glad we did. A great atmosphere, good beer, and friendly staff, but the real attraction is the literally hundreds of old photos that adorn the walls. Most are of Porthleven itself through the years, but there are many showing ships that have been wrecked in the area - highlights just how dangerous this coast used to be to sailing ships in particular. Allow at least half an hour just to look at all the photos!

We booked a table by phone , very friendly call handler. On arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff at the bar and shown to our table. We ordered faggots with mash potato and onions and the Vegetable ragu with cheese & herb crust served with garlic bread and salad. Both meals were delicious. We had desert as well , apple, blueberry, and strawberry crumble served with hot custard and Creme Brulee, again both delicious. The atmosphere was laid back, relaxed but attentive to customers. It was so friendly, and customers interacted and chatted, which was great! Would definitely recommend this quirky olde world pub , it has a charm of its own. Reasonably priced, too, and generous portions.
