Ordered our food over phone picked up order got home was missing chow main. Called and explained and after complaining was told their delivery driver would deliver a chow main plus refund for 2 chow mains in about half an hour. After an hour we called to ask where the driver was and was told he would be along soon and asked why we were worried about the time when it was only a refund coming. We told her that we had been told a chow main was getting sent as well and the woman on the phone denied it and said it was only supposed to be a cash refund. When I complained that we had been told we would be getting the chow main as well, the woman started laughing, as did some one in the back ground. The driver did eventually turn up with the refund, but needless to say we will not be using them again. It was the first and last time. We only used them this time because Woos were not available. Apparently these people have a long history of bad service including rudeness and also of getting things wrong. Plus I see now some poor hygiene ratings in the past, also are more expensive than any other Chinese I have used. My advice is go to Woos and avoid this bunch of clowns!

Best Chinese in town in my opinion. Annoying that it's cash only but worth it, curry is always on point and the pancake rolls are huge and full of meat and prawns as well as veg. Delivery can be a little slow on a busy night but it means the food is always being made fresh and that they are popular - both positives in my book.

I have used this take away before and the food is good and usually the service is excellent. I phoned ahead on 21/11 to pace a good order for delivery and the lady agreed to get it delivered for 730pm. But it didn't arrive and when I called they apologized saying the order had been forgotten. This meal was fir a birthday celebration and really spoilt my evening. If you make an order don't make it too far in advance as it seems they can't manage.

Another great meal from oriental break. First since lockdown, not lost their touch. We had chicken chow mein, crispy chilli beef, sweet and sour chicken HK. Style, special fried rice, food was fantastic. Enough left over for lunch tomorrow.

Best Chinese in Basingstoke by far. The food is always fresh and flavoursome, haven’t yet been disappointed. Can only assume any negative reviews are based on wait time - although that’s never been an issue for us. I’ll be ordering my usual for my last meal on Death Row.

Good quality food but they insist on adding delivery charges even when you are less than 2 miles away. Their menus state free delivery within a 3 mile radius but they won't accept it. I can only assume that the Chinese mile is half the distance of the British mile!

Ordered the food for nye got told it would be 2 hours which was annoying but we understood because it’s nye phoned after 2 hours 10 mins to be told it would be another 30mins Phoned again after 2 hours 40 mins to be told another 30 mins fuming So now ordering a dominos will be interesting to see which delivery turns up first The only way we are eating Chinese tonite is if it free of charge now

Ordered a takeaway from here, was told hour to hour and half, after 3 chase up calls, the food finally arrived 2 and half later. Tip if you are hungry order from somewhere else. Certainly won't be ordering from there again.

After hearing mixed reviews I was in 2 minds about ordering from here but I finally succumbed to giving it a go and was glad I did. Not a place I’d choose to eat the restaurant looks more of a lorry driver cafe but definitely recommended for a takeaway. Tasted freshly cooked with delightful flavours with generous portions can’t complain we even have enough food left over for another meal tomorrow night. Great tasting food and great value for money. I’ll be back. Thank you.

We have used Oriental Break since they opened but, over the years, the service has declined. They always argue that we are outside their 3 mile free delivery radius. Door-to-door, we are only 1.9 miles away BUT they deliver, without any argument, to the next village which is farther away! Furthermore, you should count yourself lucky if you receive everything you order! On 21st September, 2019, we ordered a selection of dishes for six people. ONCE AGAIN, the delivery excluded some of the meals AND a delivery charge had been added. Totally unacceptable and, as we are no longer prepared to argue with Oriental Break, we just won't use them anymore.

Our normal Chinese was closed due to holiday. We thought that we’d give this a try in spite of having previously a bad experience. We ordered food at 7:00 pm, they quoted an hour. At 8:30 my husband called to find out where they were and we were told they haven’t even started cooking it. So we are now sitting at the table eating cheese and biscuits.... the last experience was over two hours for delivery and when it eventually arrived we were past eating it. Needless to say we didn’t pay for it but it was too late for us to eat it. We gave them the benefit of the doubt tonight but again they have let us down. Do yourself a favour, if you haven’t planned dinner, cook yourself beans on toast!!!

Had a great chow mien from this place whilst I was staying nearby in a hotel. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. Also I was provided with a free fortune cookie which made my day!!

Used their takeaway delivery service a few times now and been really impressed with the quality of the food and speed of delivery. Renamed our previous takeaway the ' wok went wong' as they made so many mistakes so happy to find somewhere we can rely on.

Ordered takeaway, and when it arrived it was missing items I’d paid for. Then when we called we were told it we would have to pay for the missing items, I tried to explain we had and then the person put the phone down.

We have been using Oriental Break for ages, food is consistently good, delivery is prompt ( never as long as they say), and all in all it is the best Chinese in the area. We have never had any problems with not getting the right food ( except when my husband left something off the list when he called the order through!) and we love the kung po chicken, the prawn toasts, the salt and pepper squid - all really good. Not greasy. Sometimes we collect and the premises look clean and the staff are pleasant - would recommend.

I go here all the time for takeaway. I even travel 20 mins to pick up as OB is significantly better than any of my many local Chinese restaurants. I don't get all the bad reviews on here as I've eaten here at least 50 times and the food has always been exceptional.

Ordered a chinese from here got a chicken curry the chicken was raw ordered house special rice there was no rice! Along with a shrimp souy was file! Along with cold chips and only got 6.50 refund bare in mind the order was £35.00! Never ordering from here again!

Ordered food for delivery. Received our food but part of the order was missing. Phoned up to get this sorted but we had to pay for their mistake. No customer service at all and nearly 2 hour wait on an incomplete order. Won't be going back again.

Have been ordering takeaways from here for years, the food is delicious and the delivery drivers are always friendly. However, after last night, I’ll NEVER use them again. Was told the order would be an hour, after 1.5 hours I rang and was abused by a woman for 4 minutes. She would not let me speak and just kept on about how busy they were and then put the phone down!!

Ordered a meal from this restaurant at 5.30 for a 7.0 o'clock delivery first of all they phoned back to check order which they had wrong then at 7.15 rang to find out where my order had got to told it was out for delivery at 7.30 rang again and told them if it was not with me in 15 minutes they could stick it turned up at 7.40 and guess what it was cold and they still got the order wrong. I have used this restaurant many times and have always been satisfied with the service I don't know what has happened but I will certainly not be using it again

The worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. If they mess up a meal be sure it was all your fault!

This is our favourite Chinese takeaway. Would highly recommend it. Love the fact you can get free delivery too.

Oriental break never let me down with the quality of their food. Their chicken chow mein is second to none. If there is a wait, good food is worth waiting for.

Someone answered phone then 15 minutes later I got to speak to someone, priced the order out the roof and a delivery charge to, used many times as an average tasting Chinese takeaway, now must be that busy that quality and customer service out the window, won't be using again

We regularly use the oriental break and always go and collect ourselves, even though we live a fair distance away it's always piping hot when we get home, portion size is excellent, an all round great meal, we even hired the private pool room once and had a meal brought in to us, proper plates and cutlery A****

What a surprise this turned out to be. On the recommendation of my neighbour I braved all previous experiences of Chinese in Basingstoke and made an order.I feel for other people who have had a bad experience however, much as I tried to find a fault, I couldn't. My experience started with downloading a menu from their website and ordering. The lady taking the order was polite and clarified the order. I was told an hour for delivery and the food arrived after 45 minutes.Crispy seaweed and a large spring roll started off. Tasty and good size portions. Good start! My wife enjoys beef and tomatoes and has had her fair share of disasters. I went for kung po chicken with egg fried rice. Everything about the meals was excellent. Generous and so, tasty. No sign of grease and the meals were hot.Do note that this establishment does not take cheque or card payment. It is cash only! The prices though are very good.Would I have another? You bet!

Really annoyed, we have just placed an order with oriental break for a Father's Day treat only to be let down by poor customer service! After waiting just under an hour for our food the driver finally found us due to being given the wrong address by the lady back at the restaurant - not his fault he was lovely. We was given the wrong order (ribs instead of squid, egg fried rice missing of the order) this was not a huge problem for us but we called up to inquire where the missing items where and to see if we could have them delivered. I was greeted on the phone by a VERY rude and obnoxious woman who refused to claim responsibility for the mess up of the order she demanded I returned the ribs and paid an extra cost for the squid, asking if she could deliver it next time we order, as if we would order from them again with her attitude. She was generally very rudely spoken and we are currently sat watching our food going cold waiting for the original food order to be delivered ABSOLUTELY APPALLING although the food is nice I won't be ordering from here again and will advice my friends and family not too as well because of one very rude woman!

My first review of this place was after my first experience (upon recommendation by a work colleague) since moving to the area. Since then (Autumn 2015) I've used the Oriental Break about once a month. I feel they deserve another big shout out, as this has become my No.1 'go to' Chinese in Basingstoke. I've never had any issues with orders nor the food, it's always been delivered hot and freshly cooked - it's the 'freshest' delivered Chinese I've ever had. Granted on weekends you can wait around an hour+, but that's understandable given it's busy, and if it's busy, then it must be in demand, and rightly so in my opinion. It's totally worth the wait. If you love ribs, then go for the salt and pepper spiced pork ribs, they're phenomenal. I think I might be developing an addiction to them. Oh, and the Singapore rice too, lovely if you like a bit of heat! I'm not discounting people's negative experiences, but I've yet to have one, so if you've never tried the Oriental Break or the other reviews put you off a bit, be brave, be bold, give it a go! PS I see one review on here says they have a hygiene rating of 1 - they actually have a 3 according to the Food Standards Agency (as of April 2016)

After placing an order for delivery (which included a vegetable curry) it arrived within an hour but they had given us a beef curry instead of a vegetable one. We called to tell them and firstly the woman on the phone suggested we eat the beef one instead (even though it was for a vegetarian!) and then advised it would be another hour for it to be delivered as they only had one driver. We didn't want to eat an hour apart from each other so went to collect it instead. The woman behind the counter asked us if we had brought back the incorrect dish (I guess they were planning on selling this to someone else, because why else would you want it back?!) we informed her that no we hadn't brought it back so we were asked to pay for the 'extra' dish! Eventually after arguing that this was all completely unreasonable as this was due to their mistake and had caused us an inconvenience they agreed that we could have the dish 'for free' and have a refund of the cost of the difference between the two dishes, a grand total of 50p. Hungry and exasperated we went home. Needless to say we won't be ordering here again!

2 hour 40 minutes waiting and rang several times. Also just seen they have a food hygeine rating of 1 - never again.

Ordered just before 7pm and was told it would be 40 mins to 1.5 hrs. Rang again at 8.45 and was told it would be here at 9.15. Rang yet again at 9.45 told that it was on its way. It arrived at 10pm. Never again. Food was good but as I told them I had a 6 year old waiting for his tea it really isn't worth waiting 3 hours for. Give them a wide berth. They weren't at all apologetic just interested in taking as many orders as possible and not worried at how long they make you wait

Ordered at 1830 hrs, told it'll be an hour, when it didn't arrive I rang to inquire but got rude response saying it was on the way, another 4 phone calls later, food arrived at 2205 hrs, (over 3 1/2 hours later) no explanation or apology but a rude young man giving me attitude about the fact he was only a delivery guy and didn't care. Clearly not interested in repeat business, certainly won't use again or recommend.

We travel to this Chinese from the opposite side of Basingstoke, as it is our favourite. Great menu choice, consistent large portions of food, and for collecting it is super quick.

We have used the restaurant for take away many times and we are never disappointed. The value is excellent, the delivery team are very courteous and on time. The menu is fairly extensive as you would expect but there something for everyone.

Used this for the first time last night on a recommendation from a workmate (I moved to the town 3 months ago), and I have to say, wow...He warned me Friday night is busy so delivery can take a while, and it was about a hour, but it was totally worth the wait.We had the salt and pepper spiced pork ribs, chow mein, fried chilli beef and chicken balls, and it was all delicious, steaming hot and very fresh. I'm a broken record about ribs, I love them, and they were a real highlight, perfectly cooked.Prices are pretty reasonable too so, overall, they've got themselves a new regular! Well worth trying.

We normally get our Chinese from Woo's in Kings Road but didnt fancy the drive tonight so opted for these as we eat here some years ago and enjoyed it. We were told the food would arrive within an hour but it took an hour and a half which seems excessive for an ordinary Tuesday evening and by which time we were having to snack to save 'going past it' trying not to overfill ourselves but not knowing exactly when it would arrive. When it did turn up it was ok but the chips were luke warm and the seaweed tasted so salty sweet none of us could eat it. I double checked prices against Woo's menu and Oriental Break came out about £7 more. We won't be using them again!

Only used the takeaway, have collected myself and had delivery, service always fast, no mistakes, meals always seem fresh, great tasting . Best Chinese we have found in the area

The food was tasty best shrimp curry I have had in ages only let down is that its served on paper plates as the food is so worthy of much more including metal cutlery ! Such a good meal would go back but disappointed it was not on a plate, even a plastic plate would be better than paper as you eat you end up scraping the paper .... Not good . Great tribute show rod Stuart tribute act. Great voice. The Academy itself has changed a lot all for the better too.

The takeaway food is extremely good, service is awful.....I have been a customer for 5 years and have seen the gradual decline in service, noticeably in the passed year. I ordered my meal and was told it would be 75 mins, 120 mins later the food arrived and was stone cold (not the first time cold), I received a call from a very rude lady (delivery driver) saying "call me back I have no credit" she did not even introduce herself of explain that she was Trying to deliver our meal. It took me 30 mins to try and get her to my house, she did not have satnav and was totally lost. Every other delivery I have had has found me no problems, she was rude on the phone telling me she is in the village and is fed up because she could not find me, when I questioned her whereabouts "after she assured me she is in the correct village" I realised she was 3 miles away in another village!!! Totally unprofessional. I called the restaurant "the oriental break" to complain and was fobbed off with the words "what you want me to do about it" no apology or explanation. Again totally unprofessional. It is a big shame as this is one of the best chinese restaurants in basingstoke, but service is certainly NOT with a smile...... I WILL be looking for a new restaurant as I refuse to give my service to people who treat me with disrespect and bad quality off service.

I can only think this restaurant is a victim of its own success. We think the oriental is probably one of the best Chinese in Basingstoke, however.Be careful if ordering a take away during peak times.We were told 1 to 1 1/2 hours and was actually 2 hours, I would of ordered or picked up from another restaurant if told the truth, I am writing this review because it slightly spoilt a good evening with friends.

Chinese is better than any other in basingstoke maybe better than hee's had take away lamb curry tonight £6 for curry and rice it's delicious!

I eat food from the Oriental Break at least once a week, and I can honestly say that it's the best Chinese food in town. They have a large menu that caters to most, with high quality flavors and generous portion sizes with reasonable pricing. Most times I eat in, but I have had them deliver as well, and have no complaints what-so-ever.
