Dinner during a weekday. Booked table for four. When we went there it was about six and we were seated in the pokey part of the restaurant...dark and we cannot see the menu as it was that dark. Food ...nothing to write about. Fish and chips...and others ordered the burgers with chicken. Usual fare for restaurants. More choices in the town centre...

When we have friends arrive that need accommodation Ceder court at Ainley top is good. However when we were invited by our friends for a 6:30 pm meal we took a deep breath. Earlier this year we had a brunch at 54 the hotel restaurant it was terrible. We tried to have an open mind and we ordered different things . This was 6:39 and we wanted a meal then sweet. By 7:15 nothing had happened then our friends called over a waitress. You all ordered different things and the chef didn't come in on time. I'm a customer get me out of here I thought. The story would get worse. The five meals came . Chips cold , items missed these had been out for a while . The food was terrible. We left not finishing anything and ate elsewhere. The meal appeared on our friends bill when he checked out. As you might imagine it didn't appear for long. Why let a good hotel be spoiled by a poor team in a place that should be a goldmine.

Dropped in for a business brunch and decided to try the cheese burger meal. Large meaty beef burger. Grill 54 is inside cedar court hotel large lounge area which is a great idea. Not busy. Staff very attentive. Food deliciously prepared.

Staying for the night decided to try the Grill 54, had a Caesar salad for £7.50 for a Starter, and to be fair a nice portion of soft freshly cooked chicken with anchovies, croutons, cos lattice and a nice dressing, only complaint was that it was served in a tiny bowl so you could not get at anything other than the chicken on the top, I asked for a plate and tipped it out, good starter. For Main went for the tandoori burger with yogurt dressing and skinny chips, decent enough all the chicken was a little over cooked, suggesting reheating rather than from fresh, but for just under £20 a nice meal. A pint and a glass of house wine took it to £30 which for hotel prices is reasonable. Service was helpful and friendly certainly worth another visit.

I, along with several of my work colleagues, as we were resident in the hotel, decided to eat in house, as it were. We were seated, and had all made our minds up and placed our orders by 6.45pm. By 7.30 we were querying the delay, in a decidedly quiet environment, and were served ten minutes later. At least two of the meals were incorrect, with wrong items served after special, but not unreasonable, requests, and, one,of,our party was completely forgotten! Although concessions were made on the bill, and apologies offered by the staff, the overall impression was slow, unprofessional and frankly unacceptable in an eatery in a four star hotel. Being hotel residents, the accommodation is perfectly adequate for our needs, but the Grill 54 just isn't. In my opinion it's a gold mine left wanting, and could sway many potential residents to nearby, and, much better eateries. Pick up your game, and win more loyalty with the frequent "flyers", with a decent eatery option.

After numerous phone calls from the events staff badgering us to book, we decided to have our firm's seasonal lunch here, selling itself as "Huddersfield's only 4 star hotel" We should have known from the limited menu choices - soup or melon, turkey or beef - that the previous years visit to Gringos mexican restaurant in town wouldn't be beaten. On arrival we discovered we were the only diners and, on commenting on this, were told by the staff not to be facetious. The level of customer service and general good cheer were not improved by one employee asking "who are the turkeys?" on serving our main courses. The vegetables had seen better days and one colleague commented the roast potatoes were the worst she'd ever left. Three courses down, not a clean plate in sight and we had to wander round the hotel to find a staff member willing to take our coffee order Next year we'll be finding somewhere that is happy to embrace the festive spirit

We stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant on the first night. All courses were excellent (although I thought the desserts were a little pricey at £5.95 for just an ice cream). Wine selection was good and the serving staff attentive and polite. Shame there was a rather loud man at the other end of the restaurant regaling his party (and the entire restaurant) how wonderful he was!

Not good if you have dietry requirements or Vegetarian. They use the same serving tongs for meat and veggies sausages, upon asking if the tongs that were used to lift the meat sausages were the veggie one “yes” was the answer after rolling the tongs all over the veggie ones. Then had to argue about having 2 hash browns instead of one as I couldn’t now have a veggie sausage! My 4 year old asked why Peppa Pigs tail wasn’t curly? And why were people dressed up as Peppa? Why wasn’t it the real one? As when looking up at a child level the oversize heads of Peppa and George you could easily see the person under. As they walked they had to hold onto the head. We had a photo taken but I and my daughter were there for maybe 15mins at the most. Breakfast was a very expensive beans on toast and clearly not the real Peppa Pig. We will NOT be going to another meet and greet.

Just OK really. Not somewhere I would choose to visit/eat at if I wasn't here on business. It was good to have the choice of hot or cold buffet at lunch time.

Excellent customer service from Holly in the cafe this morning. She totally exceeded my expectations and it was clear how was she the same with other customers. Even something as simple as being honest about the strength of the teabags. So many cafes will only give you one tea bag but I was told that if the tea was too weak then take another teabag.

We had a great time Saturday, the music was great, good variety and not too loud. The outside area is great for a refresh overlooking the canal and lock too. Reasonable priced drinks always a bonus.

Good Witherspoons, but it gets very busy early evening particularly at weekends.

Best cafe in Halifax, so underrated. Make the best sandwiches to order, with the best lattes I’ve ever had. I used to come here with family over past 20 years. I visited again this month after living in New Zealand for the last 7 years, did not disappoint. Their sandwiches are what I crave when I’m overseas. 😍

We have patronised The Larder for over 5 years, visiting once per month when over in the area on business. On our last visit we ordered two teas as well as meals. I asked if my pot of tea could have an extra tea bag as I find their brand too weak for my taste. The waitress told me to let it stew a bit. I repeated that I would prefer two tea bags and if it was a problem on this occasion I was happy to pay for it. However when the bill came I was horrified that I had been charged £3.00 for the extra tea bag and was reluctantly refunded £l.50. Needless to say we will not be patronising the establishment again. I just hope the lady sat with her dog didn't dare to ask for a bowl of water for it.
