Olives Cafe in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Came with a friend who recommended the quiche. Sadly not on so had the curried butternut squash soup. Amazing. They had a cream tea with a glass of wine. The scone was so light. Brilliant. Staff were excellent and friendly. Well worth a visit.

We found this place after looking on here for top places for a cream tea in St Ives. WOW it did not disappoint. Tucked away you have to look for it but boy was it good. Arrived to a very warm welcome telling g us they had freshly baked scones, plain, fruit or blueberry. I had fruit, husband had blueberry. They came warm, with a pot of beautiful jam and clotted cream. They were absolutely delicious. Thank you so so much.

A long, 4hr drive from home to St Ives found us arriving in fairly urgent need of a late lunch. As we walked from the nearby municipal cark park we spotted Olives Cafe and some very happy customers sat outside, clearly relishing their cream teas. We enquired about lunch and the charming owner gave us the options - soup of the day or pie of the day!! This is often a very good sign of home-cooked, fresh food and doing a few things really well. It was an easy decision; I had the pie and my wife had the soup! Both were excellent, very tasty and really enjoyable. Atop the service counter we spotted the much talked about scones. They looked absolutely incredible and judging by the number of locals popping in to enquire about 'today's choices' they clearly have a reputation to behold. The owner told us that they bake 140 fresh each morning. Olives was perfect for what we wanted. A light but very tasty lunch to set us up for the rest of the day. It's always lovely to support small businesses like these where quality and service come before anything else.

I visit this lovely little place each time I’m holidaying in St Ives. What a find. Be early. The blueberry muffins are an absolute must😁

This is a lovely small friendly cafe with amazing service and food. My friend and I shared one of their cranberry and sultana scones which had just come out of the oven. It was delicious served with jam and cream we did have the dilemma of which comes first jam or cream!!!

A cosy, out of the way cafe offering delicious cream teas (and other items). They offer blueberry scones which is a nice touch compared to just plain or fruit. It is very popular so best to get there early. Friendly, welcoming staff.

A lovely welcoming little spot. The cream tea was sublime. Cheaper than the rest of St Ives and fresher and better than the rest of St Ives. Don’t miss this little oasis, always busy, you may have to be patient and wait for a table. They are not full for nothing..!

What a great little place to find in St. Ives, blueberry scones to die for and great drinks. Scones were very fresh and came with the right amount of butter, cream and jam. With a coffee and a soft drink came to £16 for two people so not totally unreasonable in today’s world of higher prices. Service was good too, thanks A+++++

We aimed to arrive before lunch to ensure that we could miss the rush. The service was superb. The cream tea was fantastic, fresh scones with 3 varieties available, plenty of cream and jam with top ups available. As we left there was a sizeable queue.

I loved my visit to Olives so much I popped back for more later in the same day. I was treated so warmly that I feel like I made friends here. Treat yourself to cream tea in the sunshine ( I made it to Jamaica Inn, thanks for the tip)

my wife was told about a lovely cafe in st ives to go to if she wanted a cornish cream tea so when we had went to st ives we done our walk about and bits and bobs and then she relised what the woman had told her at work about the cream tea so we asked and was told where it was so we went and thought it was the wee cafe down the road from olives i asked a girl in the que but she didnt know very much so asked the guy behind the bad and was told it was further up and around the corner so we walked up and around and here it was lovely side streets where people stay what a lovely little town so much i want to give this a 5 star but i can only give it a 3 rating because of something but not that it was any a fault with anything we asked for a cream tea and 3 beautiful big fruit scones mmmmm those were delicious with clotted cream and jam omg it was delicious the tea came out and i looked at my wife and she looked at me and said wheres the cream for the tea but kinda made me think that there cream is there milk so we just drank the tea but it was beautiful

Why haven’t we been here before? Amazing! We have been coming to St Ives a few times a year for 30 years. Our first visit to Olives. Superb is all I can say. Largest tastiest home made scones and cakes. Coffee rich and flavoursome. Will definitely be back

As you will see from some of my other reviews, we are keen to discover the best tearooms in Cornwall. Today we visited St Ives and, following a delightful coastal walk, we searched around the town for a good Tearoom. Olives looked the part and we were not disappointed in any way. As usual we wanted a cup of Earl Grey, along with a good simple cake. We could see the Tiffin and fruit scones on display. both of which we love, and I have to say we were completely satisfied. The staff were happy and provided wonderful service, the cost was very reasonable. What more can I say? Thank you Olives!

Rare hem to find, very friendly staff, loveky atmosphere. Went for a Cuppa but treacle bake looked soo nice. Served with closed cream and orange, It was amazing, wanted to lick the plate! Place is fab, when we holiday again will def be returning. Thank you

What an amazing find. Happy friendly vibe with all home cooked food. Not a burger or chip in site. Well.put together plate of food, vegan options available. All freshly made. Will definitely come back when we are in St ives. Reasonable prices considering everything I'd home made. You'd be a fool not to try it.

Lovely cream tea warm doughy scones clotted cream and strawberry jam with a pot of tea for two mmmm my idea of the perfect taste of Cornwall

My wife and I called in to Olive’s this afternoon for a pot of tea for two and a blueberry scone after our visit to St Ives today. Very friendly service from the man and the woman working here. Nice nostalgic music playing while we enjoyed our cream teas at the window seat. If we hadn’t already had a pasty earlier we would have loved to have tried the vegetable soup. Definitely a place to return to next time. Thank you.

Truly excellent cream teas, and the staff are lovely. They display art by local artists too, and we bought a painting to take home as a reminder of our holiday.

Well worth a visit, small cafe, lovely homemade soup, scones etc. Up steps so not very accessible but would be fine in summer as tables outside. Toilet for customer use. A good range of decent coffee options. Actually use a proper teapot which looked lovely. Soup arrived with fresh bread and butter and the offer of more if needed, you didn't! Very filling, recommend the leek and potato. Didn't spot any highchairs but limited space quite snug. Local art work for sale on the walks. Very friendly staff.

Lovely fresh salad lunch, custom made. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Also lovely for coffee and cakes. They don’t open until 11 which is a shame.

Dropped in for a cream tea , 10 out of 10 and nice friendly people . I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Took the opportunity to visit this wonderful tea shop whilst my husband looked after our napping 2 year old and I’m very pleased I chose here to spend my quiet time… it was the best cream tea ever! The scone was so light and fluffy, and the jam and cream were just perfect. And let’s not forget the tea… the tea was just perfect. Highly recommend!

We found Olives Cafe online in the best places to eat cream tea in St Ives. It was tucked away on a small side road with lots of charm. We had cream tea with prosecco and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick and efficient. It's a must place to visit.

We visited the Olive cafe on our visit to St Ives the cafe is small and cosy but this adds to its charm. We had the best cream tea ever. The scones were warm and fresh and tasted home made, as did the jam. We would definitely recommend the Olive Cafe to anyone. The staff were friendly and attentive. We would rate the cream tea 10 out of 10 and look forward to a return visit in the future.

Come to Cornwall and they’re serving cream teas with scones left right and centre, but not being a lover of tea or coffees and not wanting to miss out, I was very excited to discover this little gem of a place serving scones cream teas but with a Prosecco option! What’s more, they had a blueberry scone options and my god, what a treat it was! Crisp chilled Prosecco (small bottle, so about a glass and a half) served with a strawberry on the side of the glass, warm fresh blueberry scone with jam and cream….heaven with every bite!

A lovely little find on the backstreets. Only stopped by for a coffee and tea, but was taken in with the fruit scones. So heartily recommend the food here. Great customer service and sense of humour.

On a recent trip to st Ives we visited Olives after hearing they sold a great cream tea. We were not disappointed. Olives is a off the front in the back streets of st Ives and is so peaceful and lovely being out of the hustle and bustle. We sat outside and I had a scone with cream and jam and it was so good, the best one we had while in Cornwall. My husband had lemon cake which was also very nice. I would highly recommend this cafe and will definitely be back next year.

1st time visiting Olives and wanted a nice cream tea …. Because we have dogs we had to sit outside , but service was good.I had the blueberry scones and they were served warm …. Dry , very nice , not at all dry .Plenty of jam and cream too.Thanks

We selected this cafe as it offered gluten free cakes. I rang ahead to enquire if they had gluten free scones. They said no, but they had a good range of cakes. When we arrived - no gluten free cakes until tomorrow. So we had to have a bag of crisps and chocolate bar from the supermarket for lunch.

Still the best ! Outstanding in every way , just the loveliest place to have cream tea in St Ives ! Scones off the scale ! Every time over 10 years , 2 or 3 times a year when we GK it never ever gets old , never disappoints, always a delight !

We came upon this cafe and settled down for a cup of coffee, but ended up eating scones and sausage and cider rolls! Very friendly staff and atmospheric outside seating.

By chance happened to find Olives in a side street. The cream tea was amazing and one of the best i have tasted. Delightful little cafe tucked away in St Ives. Delicious home-made food served in a cosy cafe with outdoor seating for those who want to sit outside. The blueberry scone was undoubtedly the best I’ve ever had - fresh, warm, the perfect amount of fruit. Delicious ! Staff very friendly and pleasant too.

We sat inside the café, its not very big inside. There are also several tables outside. Its a bit tucked away but we found it ok. After reading reviews on tripadvisor we decided it was a must to try a cream tea. We weren't disappointed, we really enjoyed our cream teas. Worth a visit.

We were lucky enough to visit Olive’s cafe today after reading the glowing reviews on trip advisor. We had 2 delicious and tasty scones with cream, jam and a pot of tea as well as a giant apple and cider sausage roll to share. Scones were absolutely beautiful, so fresh and tasty and the giant sausage roll was light and flavoursome. Staff were super friendly and it’s great that it’s located away from the hustle and bustle of the harbour!

We were in need of refreshment when we found Olives. Sadly we were too late for their scones which sell out quickly. However there was a lovely selection of home made cakes. We settled for freshly made carrot cake and decaf tea, delicious and very good value. What made it special for us was the staff, helpful and charming. My friend has mobility issues and they went out of their way to help her down the stairs which was very much appreciated, Thank You!

We stopped by for lunch today and I managed to grab the last giant sausage roll - it was delicious! The couple sat next to us raved about the blueberry scones, and the small bowl of olives we had were delicious.We returned a short while later, having bumped into old friends, and shared tea and cake. The cakes looked delicious!Fantastic, friendly service, The Olive needs to make sure they have enough stock in to deal with ongoing demands - they ran out of some stock while we were there (and I gather that’s the norm, judging by the comments from the couple we met). The location is lovely - away from the busy seafront, yet still bustling.Definitely a place to visit!

We visited this place as we saw how it was rated on cream teas. There was a queue but it soon went down. Very small place but what a great cafe. If you don't go for cream tea the cakes looked amazing. Well worth a visit. If you can find sloop Inn on main street. Head past turn left past Upper deck bar. Then at cross roads turn right. Walk about 50 meters look right should be there. Highly recommended.

Stumbled upon Olives Cafe and found one table for two free.Warm welcome from the staff and witnessed Nigel flying round like a mad wasp tending to everyone’s needs with a chat and a smile.The scone selection was fantastic and one Blueberry one and one Pecan and apricot were ordered. …. We were lucky enough to visit here last week, well worth the trip! We had 2 beautiful warm scones with cream and jam, a pot of Cornish tea and finished it all off. Great service and brilliantly fresh scones, well worth the walk around the bay, and COVID safe measures in place! Would highly recommend!!!!

We stopped here a year ago for a cream tea and visited again on our honeymoon. I just love the homely, family feel the place has not to mention the lovely cakes and scones. The cakes are normally gluten free or vegan and you don't even notice. Soooo yummy! go now! You won't be disappointed.

A gorgeous little place. Staff were super friendly and the food was delicious! Away from the harbour, tucked away along the cobbled streets. Small outdoor and indoor area which adds to its ‘quaintness’. The Cream Tea was the BEST I had during my stay in Cornwall - highly recommend and reasonably priced too!

Such a lovely place! The cafe itself is gorgeous with lovely paintings and artwork it really stands out. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food was second to none, we had cream teas with their lovely blueberry scones. They had an amazing selection of flavours of scones which I was impressed with and the cider and apple sausage roll was the best I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommend this cafe to anyone!

We were in Cornwall for the week & our first trip to St Ives. Whilst wondering the back streets we came across this small and quirky cafe.Luckily there was a table available inside.The carrot cake was delicious and my partner had one of the fruit scones - one of the best he has had in a while.Whilst there, they ran out of scones and the owner was in the process of making another batch - freshly made onsite. A small busy cafe with attentive staff. Thank you.

The most amazing scone I have EVER had! A trip to Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without a cream tea. After all the positive reviews I knew this was the place to go and we were not disappointed. The scone was still warm when served. The perfect size and perfect amount of cream and jam to accompany. A must if you’re in St Ives! Lovely selection of other cakes as well as savouries such as sausage rolls!

Amazing experience today at Olive. Superb sausages roll (even tho the owner thought it was overdone and offered to swap it - no need it was delicious) and incredible Gluten Free cake for my wife. Divine, friendly service and proper homemade food with love that shone through compared to the tourist cafes on the harbour side. Honestly the nicest cafe of our visit to Cornwall. Will definitely be back.

Lovely little cafe in St Ives serving the best scones I have ever had. Tucked away off a square (great viewing of vehicles trying to manouevre narrow streets and tight corners) with a couple of outside tables and very friendly owner. The only (minor) downside is the opening times and the fact that the scones ran out before our second visit. Certainly on our list when we next visit St Ives.

We visited here and we were a bit surprised by how small the menu was. Not much to choose from which seemed a bit strange as the Cafe is very cute and is situated in a great location. The cream teas we received were very nice. The man who served us was a bit weird though, quite rude and condescending. Found this a bit off putting so went elsewhere for rest of the holiday.

We had a lovely cream tea at Olives, everything we’d hoped it would be after reading other reviews. Warm fresh scones, yummy jam and Cornish cream. 4 rather than 5 stars as it took 2 visits and a long queue to get this treat. The first day we tried they had run out of all food at 1pm the second time we waited for around 30mins to get a table. Worth a visit but be prepared to go early and wait for a table

Great place to have the the best scones in St Ives and a great cup of Cornish cream tea.And there banana chocolate cake is to die for.Owner and staff are great too.Me and my nephew went yesterday and today and we plan to go again.It is without doubt a Cornish Gem.

Searched this place out after reading about the blueberry scones.....we were not disappointed! A batch had just come out of the oven so they were warm and totally delicious! I would not usually have a fruit scone for a cream tea but they were too good to resist! (plain scones available too) The lovely man running the show was coping on his own with a busy service and did so with a smile and a sense of humour! We loved it and will definitely return as the quiche was also highly recommended!! Fabulous!

We had an afternoon tea there this week. The cafe looked rather charming and cute. The staff was pleasant and cakes were delicious. We will go back again to try their lunch menu next time.

Well what an amazing cafe! I’ve been trying to get a table here all summer and today we managed it! It was worth the wait, beautiful homemade food with friendly staff the lady was so lovely and passionate about her job even with lockdown looming. We had the quiche and salad and just had to make room for cake which was amazing and a great way to end being able to dine out for a while. Can’t wait to return again soon. We loved the atmosphere and decor too!

Wandering the streets after a visit to the Tate we discovered this lovely little cafe. It was closing time but the owner let us in for a drink. Although we had only wanted a coffee we ended up having a Prosecco and were given a scone and cream on the house. The scones were the best I have ever tasted - so light and tasty and beautifully presented. The owner and staff were really friendly and the nicest people you could meet. A great little find with happy, friendly staff - what more could you want! Don't miss this - it really is a treat.

Disappointed having made a special trip for lunch. Menu limited and the vegan cheese and potatoe pasty was tasteless, pastry thick and stodgy and cheese no where to be seen. Not good value at all and shame as Service was friendly.

What has happened to 'Olives's? While the food was as nice as ever, we wished we'd eaten outside because the 'pumping music' inside made us want to eat up and leave as soon as possible. Perhaps that was the intention! On our many previous visits, including to attend the Indian evenings, this was a place to have something to eat in peace and quiet, so we won't be coming again.Also, the lady with the glasses was officious to the point of being rude which made for a tense atmosphere - and, despite the pandemic, there's no excuse as the other member of staff, with a completely different attitude, was doing her best to make us feel welcome and happy!And to think that we've always recommended this venue to others ...!And, if you 'must' have music, which I think is unnecessary, especially in such a small place, turn it down!!!

We found this lovely little place quite by accident and decided cream teas were just the thing ! They were fabulous , 4 different flavours of scone , freshly made and served warm , beautifully presented too , all four of us thoroughly enjoyed them even if we did get covered in icing sugar ! , definitely will be back on our next visit to St Ives

We found this little Gem for lunch and had the most delicious quiche and salad, which was more than enough to fill us up. However, the lure of the freshly homemade scones that were in abundance got the better of the other half, and he demolished a blueberry scone with clotted cream and jam and can highly recommend!Fabulous atmosphere, very friendly staff - don't miss this one!!

Cream tea is great. One very large fresh home made scone, lovely presentation and plenty of jam and clotted cream. Home made cakes looked great too - maybe next time....!

Although only serving outside tables due to COVID we had excellent service from a lovely waitress. All tables and chairs were wiped down between each customer. The cream teas were absolutely lovely. Choice of different scones including blueberry, fruit and plain. We went back 3 times and enjoyed it every time.

We both had a cream tea, with blueberry scones which were literally just out of the oven and were the nicest scones we've ever had, absolutely delicious! We headed here after reading other reviews about the cream teas being so good. We definitely were not disappointed. The café was busy when we arrived, so we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, but the staff were helpful and friendly, despite being rushed off their feet. We ordered cream teas, with a choice of scone - cherry and walnut, plain, fruit or blueberry. They were delicious, fresh and warm and a good size too. The tea came in a nice pot, so there was plenty. Was one of the best cream teas I've had.

Waited for ages for a takeaway coffee that they forgot to put through. Lady in charge offers insincere apology, also heard her being abrupt to others. Not good customer service

What a beautiful place. We found it one night on a wander and the next day we went back. Situated 500 yards up the hill off the main beach. We had the cream tea which was one of the best. A good pot of tea between us and amazing cream scones, beautiful jam (positive it was homemade jam)..we had a lovely visit, lovely staff very lovely place away from the crowds of tourists on the front and in the sun.

Having googled cream teas in St Ives, Olives was a must go to. We arrived on a very hot day and there were no seats left outside, they were not allowing customers inside, I did not ask why but presumed it was due to covid. We waited approx. 10 minutes for a table and were not disappointed. We had a large pot of tea and three cream teas, we were given one scone each, we had to choose if we wanted plain, fruit etc. the cream tea came with a delicious large strawberry and a covering of icing sugar, it was really lovely. You could have prosecco if you wished. We will pay Olives a visit again should we return to St Ives.

I ordered an oat milk latte and a cherry and walnut scone. I have to say it was the best scone I have ever had, so delicious and it was freshly baked. We tried both the cherry and strawberry jam too which both complimented well. Highly recommended. The coffee was really good too and I am fussy with my coffee.

We visited here whilst staying in St Ives and seeing how popular it looked.The cream tea was delicious and probably the best scone I've had! We had one blueberry and one cherry and walnut scone with delicious jam and clotted cream.My only criticism was the pot of tea.. Im a Yorkshire girl and love strong tea (yorkshire tea!) and sadly found the tea on the weak side and lacking flavour even after stewing. However these really are the best scones around!
