Change the beans and this would be a 5 all day long. Went for a walk round the market to have a coffee and found this little place. Saw the food coming out and it looked nice so decided to have a breakfast. It's not the best I've ever had, and the beans were poor, but other than that, that was a nice breakfast. Was told everything was cooked fresh and it looked it too. Coffee was really nice too. Overall, I would definitely go back again, but I won't have the beans next time. Would recommend.

We have been visting the Grainger market quite frequently recently and like to support small local businesses if we can. We have been to Olivers a couple of times and had no problems, service has been prompt and i love their peach melbas! Unfortunately today was a different story. It was busy, but no busier than other days when weve visited. Found a seat and waited to be served. Started looking around after awhile and noticed a man who arrived after us had already been served and had his coffee in front of him. I asked a lady who was bringing food to another table if we could order coffees. She said the other lady was coming round with the ipad to take orders. The said lady came out and proceeded to take orders from numerous tables close to the servery and although we tried to attract her attention she didnt bother coming up to the other end of the seating area and went back to the doorway and stood chatting to the other staff. Needless to say we informed her we were leaving and sadly wont be back.

We ordered two vegetable paninis, one large cappuccino and a Diet Coke which came to £15.55. The panini barely contained any vegetables, and came with a lack lustre side salad and crisps. The side salad was lettuce with Barry any colour, and a quarter of a single salad tomato. It did come with a sachet of salad cream and mayonnaise though. The coffee was very nice though, and service was relatively quick but the food really wasn’t worth the price. I don’t think the amount of veg and salad would count as one portion of veg.

Pot of tea was nice as was the reasonably priced filter coffee. Quite a few tables even though the Grainger market is being renovated. Cinco estrellas.

We came here in the recommendation of a friend - glad they recommended it! We ordered 2 Northumbrian breakfasts, which arrived within about 10 minutes. My boyfriend ordered his without beans, so they replaced the beans with a hash brown. I didn't realise that the breakfasts came without hash browns so I ordered two more and they were brought over straight away, No complaints about the breakfast, very delicious and the toast was very thick!Only comment to make is that the breakfasts come with tea or coffee. It is not possible to swap the tea or coffee for orange juice. Not everyone drinks tea or coffee, so I had to pay extra for an orange juice and my boyfriend got 2 coffees. If you need a breakfast to set you up for the day, Olivers is the place to go!

Having visited the market a few months ago we decided to have lunch here on our latest visit. First impressions weren't good with uncleared tables that seem to be left for you to clear! You order at the till which is fine, unfortunately they aren't very good at recording what you order, so when ours arrived it was missing certain items, like a drink! The latte is a milky coffee and the scones are fairly hard...not the best and certainly not on the list to repeat. It's a shame because with a little effort it could be good as opposed to below average! Approach with caution.

Utterly utterly disappointed with Oliver's, how it can rate its self as a bistro cafe with a twist of Northumbrian flavour is beyond me. The only twist I experienced was a different take on how customer service and presentation and cooking of food can go so wrong. There is not a hint of positiveness here at all, a smile and cheerful greeting costs nothing but by Christ it does wonders to help with the reputation of the place, but I suppose the location helps to keep a steady flow of customers feeding the till. The cooking of the food as can be seen by the photos is beyond amateur, burnt toast and fried bread that was more boiled in fat than fried, pure basics but then the sheer audacity to serve this food is beyond me as the sausages were bland and bacon that had no flavour or texture at all, no respect for the ingredients or paying customer The person cooking or destroying the ingredients if it was my business would be replaced plus the serving and greeting staff taken through the basics of customer service and helping the customer to have a positive experience which they would remember, however I will definitely remember mine for all the wrong reasons I won't be back ever

It was busy (late morning) but the waitresses coped well and everything was served hot & tasty, nothing too much trouble we were brought extra sauces.I have to say in defence of Olivers to previous reviewers who complain about being asked to leave when eating something not purchased here, the cafe is not a communal seating area, so why do they (these reviewers) expect to be able to eat food bought elsewhere? You would be asked to leave any cafe/restaurant if you were eating products not bought on the premises.I say if you want good food at good value, Olivers fits the bill.

She was unceremoniously told she couldn't sit with me. No queues, no one waiting for seats. All a little over the top for me. This is one of those places that if you have never been to the Grainger market you will never have experienced the delights of Olivers Bistro or Ollies Bistro as it is known as locally. The Grainger market is well worth a visit if you have never been and is absolutely jam packed with a plethora of local business that offer such a wide and varied choice of products. At its busiest it is a hive of activity so be prepared to have to queue at some places that includes my latest gem of a find.I knew all about it and just have never had the opportunity to sample the delights on offer from this place.I was early for an appointment so decided to make a little bit of a detour and have something to eat to set me up for what was going to be a busy day.The staff were extremely warm and welcoming and very polite and courteous at all times which is always a big tick in my review book.I had heard so much about the famous big breakfasts that I decided just to go for a sausage and mushroom bun which was more than enough to keep me going. The sandwich was piping hot and was offered with a free choice of sauces which is always a nice touch with most other places charging !! The coffee was excellent and the prices very reasonable indeed. The menu is very good with plenty of choice for all discerning customers. It is one of those places that has a loyal following of customers but is also a place that welcomes new customers in exactly the same way and that is why it will continue to be successful as without customers you have no business.I know that I will definitely be going back soon and might even go for the big breakfast and see if I can do it justice. The seating area is very pleasant and allows you to survey other business activity from your seat without being too exposed to the passing public.I also noticed they are doing a Xmas broth which I am sure will be as delicious as my sandwich was today. So well done to all concerned and know you will go from strength to strength in the future as I am an advocate of supporting local business as I myself am one.

I came in for lunch at 2pm, so not that late in my view. I wanted the soup but they had run out. I opted for a cheeseburger but they had none left. I was offered the gammon as they had plenty of that. No thanks. That was it. There was no interest and too much apathy from those working there. I found s lovely cafe opposite in the market which I'll use instead.

We stopped for breakfast whilst visiting Newcastle after thinking the cafe looked 'cute'. Bad mistake! We ordered two toasted tea cakes, coke and a tea. We got our drinks slapped down on the table and left sitting on the tray. My tea cup was dirty and after cleaning it and pouring my tea in it, also found out it was greasy! We waited 35 minutes on our toasted tea cakes before getting fed up. We had been looking over at the kitchen but none of the 6 staff decided to come and see us. We ended up going to speak to manager to ask where our food was and that we were going to have to leave. We got told that the machine wasn't toasting the tea cakes, common sense would have told her to try one of the other two toasters sitting in the kitchen! They didn't have the decency to come across and ask us if we would like something else, instead just left us sitting! We asked for our money back, but only got the money for our tea cakes and left. I'm glad we did because the kitchen looked dirty as well! Horrid start to the morning.

Don't be deceived by the imagery. On arrival to the market place we noticed the sign displayed a rather good looking burger, so we decided to eat at the place thinking it was good. Well, on ordering the food we found that the staff where rude. When taking our order I had to keep repeating constantly the order as the person at the till kept looking away or talking to other staff members of which there was a number of them stood doing nothing but staring at customers where the food was being prepared. I did notice a waiter constantly chewing throughout a meal. However I think he was chewing on scraps from customers meals. This was off putting and simply disgusting. The food overall was terrible and my partner did not eat her food as it was that bad. I will be making a formal complaint to this place!Ps. Mac Donald's is much better than this place and at least the staff are more polite

We decided to pop into Olivers for brunch while walking around Newcastle. We like Olivers for the atmosphere. Great for people watching. We ordered the full breakfast x 3. Our daughters was brought to the table minus any bacon. When I mentioned it, they took it away to get bacon added. After a few minutes it hadnt arrived so when when we mentioned it, the waiter went to check and brought the meal back with him, Still without the bacon, so we told him again why it was sent back on the first occasion. We also told him that we were waiting for our fried bread. Apparently they had to go to the local bakers shop across the way to get more bread so it would be with us soon. The breakfast returned with 4 slices of bacon on it so our daughter was well happy with that as she had more than we did. The fried bread did turn up shortly after with an apology for the wait. Apart from these two things happening, we still like this place, even if its for the location.

I have 'snacked' at Olivers several times. The lunches, especially the pies , are very good .Nothing fancy ,but tasty and well made . a sarny with some crisps and salad is another good choice.Again nothing fancy but tasty well filled and generous portions .Just a tea or coffee ? You will still be welcomed. The staff are friendly and the space is comfortable and warm , with great heaters .Good value ,good food, friendly staff and cosy and warm .

We've visited Oliver's quite a few times over the years. When we first started eating there the food was notably better than most other cafés around the area. The Northumbrian breakfasts were a must-have on every visit.Unfortunately we can't say the same now. Our last three visits over the past few months have been consistently disappointing. The place seems to be run by young girls now (on Saturday mornings at least) and the ingredients now seem cheap and tasteless.A real shame but I don't think we'll be back unless things pick up again.

I 'found' this restaurant only because I fancied a change from my normal venue. What a find!! I had a pizza which was amazing. Beautiful fresh dough and a bolognese topping which was divine. Lovely staff and service too. Even the house wine was great value and a perfect accompiment to the meal. From what I saw of other diners, they seemed impressed too.

Been going for years, a great pub. Nothing bad to report but a few things they could do to improve eg have the fire on, do some painting.

It's so dark and dingy when it gets dark you can hardly see who you're sitting next to especially at the front windows. We've stopped drinking there. Four of us were regulars Friday and Saturday night. A good pub spoilt.

This branch always seems to be a mess as it's so small and stuff is everywhere. The staff have little craic (unlike those at the Monument branch who are great). Could do with taking the COVID shields away as well unless it's now used as protection from the homeless folk who hang about the entrance. Today the Ham Salad Baguette had the texture/ taste of yesterday's. The Apple Juice was not chilled and tastes about half as appley as Tesco's 500ml meal deal bottle. All was not quite lost though as the Belgian Bun was delicious. Value was OK at £4.85 had the sandwich and juice been nicer.

This was my second visit and it was as great as the first time. Sam is super dedicated and makes the service something incredible. This hotel is great value for money with the added advantage of a Green King's pub right downstairs. Excellent accommodation, lovely people, delicious food. Perfect!!!
