We ate an amazing fish plate. It was very delicious and satisfying. The environment and staff are very warm and they do their job well. But the venue manager was a real friend. I'm glad I knew you. Food, conversation, sunset, sea, what more could you want? Definitely one of the places to visit... Thank you 🙏🫶🏻

Usually the best fish and chip shop in Hastings, with great quality food and very good portion sizes, but unfortunately the portion size of chips appeared to have shrunk considerably today and was not adequate for the price. Hopeful that this was just a one off 🤞

Food was delicious. Fish and chips freshly cooked. Only problem staff had a problem keeping up . Everyone had to remind them to cook thier orders

We both enjoyed our Haddock and Chips very much in this lovely restaurant. The owner was a very friendly gentleman indeed.

I've visited for takeaway food on a few occasions now, with every experience being as good as the last. The food has been of consistent excellent quality and cooked to order. I'm based on the opposite side of town; travelling here is well worth the time and effort.

Grabbed some chips for a butty at home. Good thick cut proper chips. Not greasy. Was astounded at the price for chips though. But I don't eat out much.

I have had the opportunity to try the famous fish and chips from this local restaurant, and I must say that the reputation they have is well deserved. The plate was huge and the fish was perfectly fried, with a crispy coating on the outside and tender meat on the inside. Additionally, the price was very reasonable considering the portion size, making it an attractive option for those looking for a filling meal without spending too much. However, I must mention that the customer service left a little to be desired. Despite asking for more lemon to accompany our fish, they only brought us a small additional wedge, which was not enough to satisfy our needs. In fact, they didn't even give us half of a whole lemon, which was a bit disappointing. Despite this inconvenience, we really enjoyed the food overall. The fish was delicious and the portion was generous, which somewhat made up for the lack of customer service. In short, if you are looking for a good fish and chips at a reasonable price, this place definitely delivers, just make sure you order enough lemon beforehand.

Excellent fish and chips, good portions. Always had a good meal, fish is always fresh and chips are cooked just right. Family friendly and always a good atmosphere in the main restaurant.

Rather expensive BUT best chips and fishcake, fried dry and tasty in good quality oil. Recommend.

Bad. Soggy batter on leathery thin strip of what meant to be medium cod that at best a small. My wife’s portion the same. Chips ok. Disappointing.

Unfortunately my fish was off smelt of ammonia, they did change it without apology . The second batch was also off I gave up at that point . I have eaten here In the past and it's been fine but I'm afraid I've been put off now .

Beautifuly cooked chips and great service with a smile. Sausage could be of a bit better quality but all in all nice experience.

Excellent fish and chips and generous portions, at a good price. We had large rock and chips and large haddock and chips. Both very filling and nicely cooked fresh. Good crispy batter. Comparatively the mushy peas seem a little expensive. We had an early lunch when it was quiet. Unfortunately the very old awards on the wall may be a bit of a put off for some.

Been using this places for many years and always had a great experience. Food cooked to perfection every time, thank you guys

Although recommended this restaurant, there was nothing particularly special about the fish and chips.

Very child friendly . Nice pirate boat area for kids to play and eat . Waitress very helpful and friendly Price was very reasonable. Curry sauce very nice . Nice touch having the ketchup and salt / vinegar on table so can help your self's.

Went for RNLI fundraiser, great food and amazing staff.

We came to visit Friday 20th Oct as a table of 3, we was greeted as we arrived and shown to our table. We had zara serving us and she was amazing, I was very indecisive with my order, she was very patient with me and nothing was too big or small. Zara made our visit fun, relaxing and enjoyable. The staff were very welcoming, and the food was amazing. The restaurant was clean and tidy. We will definitely be returning and highly recommended old town fryer. Thank you all for a lovely experience.

Delicious fish and chips, great for kids. They actually have a little fishing boat inside for the kids to eat in. Mine loved it!

Excellent food and very friendly staff

Service was good. It wasn't busy when I visited, we were the only customers so we were served promptly. Cod was very good with a nice crispy batter. Chips were a bit limp and not to my taste but they were edible. Mushy peas were great but i didnt like their curry sauce. The tea was served in a large cup and was great. The place was clean and the price was fair too. Overall a nice experience and a place I'd return to.

You are spoilt for choice for fish and chip restaurants in the Hastings Old Town. We went for this one because it had a decent sized inside space. We went for the Haddock and the Plaice, and they were both substantial and very good. And with good friendly service levels from the team working the restaurant section we had no complaints with this one.

£7 scampi for 8 pieces of frozen food, chips were like deep fried mash potato. Calamari were ok. The chicken and mushroom pie had barely any chicken. 27£ for chips, scampi, calamari and 2 cokes. I would not come back.

This is a lovely fish and chip restaurant to go to when visiting Hastings. The staff are friendly and efficient, and my fish and chips were heavenly! No hassle just a great meal when stopping off for a break, Well done!

A favourite 🐟 & 🍟 takeout in Hastings Old Town

Came back to England to visit my family with my American wife. I wanted her to try really good, quality fish and chips. I took us all out to eat and my sister chose here. Gotta say, it didn't disappoint at all. The fish was perfectly cooked and fresh. The sausage was of equal quality, and the saveloy was delicious too. The chips were, if I'm honest, the best part. They were most excellent and so tasty that the first couple I had didn't need salt or vinegar on them. I like salt and vinegar so I added some, and it managed to somehow improve them. The service was good as we had a large dine in order for 11 people and they got everything right and it was all nice and hot. Highly recommended by the locals as a good quality plaice (seewhatididthere?), and also highly recommended by me.

Really enjoyed our meals, but they were slightly longer arriving than I would have hoped. Drinks were initially served very efficiently but regrettably one was missing that was forgotten. Had to be chased, but did receive apology.

Came for a spontanious lunch and decided on this fish and chip shop due to it being nice and busy. They seated me straight away, and quickly took my order. I ordered the Scampi and chips with mushy peas, food arrived nice and quickly in about 15 minutes, lovely and piping hot. It was delicious, scampi was lovely a crispy and chips were fantastic. The fish shaped plate completed the meal! Would definitely come again.

Very expensive and the food portions are very small. Staff were pretty rude. Lot better restaurants on seafront, so would avoid this one.

Service was a bit 2nd rate hut tbf the waitresses are very young and inexperienced. Fish and chips were really good and can have zero complaints . Prices competitive and nice restaurant to eat in.

Was not impressed with the Cod sold to me - certainly did not taste or look like cod . Service was poor given a plastic fork to sit outside on their tables , 20 pounds spend plate was apparently an extra charge . Had a beer and a savaloy - fish was a letdown and overpriced I thought for the quality and experience. Chips were okay . Apparently fresh fish not available in the area - in which case I might suggest visiting a local pub

I'm 65 years old and the plaice was the worst I've ever had the fish had almost disintegrated under the concrete batter. Miserable service

Really good food, always cooked fresh and well priced.

Ate here last night and was thoroughly impressed with the large cod and chips. Fish was HUGE and food was cooked fresh you could definitely tell, came to the table steaming hot! My wife is not much of a fish eater but she tried the scampi and finished the plate so no complaints there! 100% recommend, will definitely be returning!

We as a family have used the Old Town Fryer for about ten years, never had a bad meal, and always left satisfied, and will continue to use. 🙂

Hi took a group in there last night. The service was excellant and so was the food. Great Chippie and Staff are really friendly.

Top notch nosh on Father's Day, fish and chips, sausage and chips and saveloy with chips. Served on white fish shaped plates. The staff were really busy so serving up a sausage instead of the saveloy was forgivable and rectified quickly. The missing fish and chips took so long to get that most of us were almost finished our meals before it eventually arrived. It doesn't take almost twenty minutes to correct a major screw up usually, but as long as people know that some of the staff were young and could not read each others writing, and possibly only there for their wages and no interest in customer care then they can avoid busy days like we intend to do in future. 2 mistakes out of 6 meals would usually deserve the wrath of my poisonous pen, however, on previous less busy days when youngsters are not working this business has been great. So with this in mind and not wanting to crucify one of the good fish and chip shops I had to bear in mind that even I can get things wrong (honestly). As we left a larger family quickly took our table as all other tables were full. The food, both eat in and take away has been consistently good/great, so as a small party of six we would all be returning without hesitation.

The driest fish and chips I’ve ever had by the seaside… rather awful. For that price the size of the fish was quite small as well. Not that I wanted to eat it…

The food is delicious however how does a plate of chips take almost 45min to be served? Really upset my dinner, my family had eaten before me and the other table got their food and I was still waiting for 1 plate of chips I am so upset. Apparently they didn’t hear my order - how do you not hear a plate of chips it’s what people buy from a fish and chips - CHIPS !!!!!!

My favourite place to get fish and chips. So yummy. We aren't local but it's worth the 2h run for a Friday night takeaway. 🤤. Great staff Great food Reasonably priced.

First time back since the pandemic and pleased to say that the fish and chips is still first class. The staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. Cannot recommend highly enough. If you are in the area, best place to eat.

I visited here with my family as we’ve come once before and was pleased the first time however will not be returning. I have never been so disrespected in a restaurant. As a customer I have a right to voice my concerns/opinion at the end of the day we are paying customers so are entitled to this. All I wanted to do was voice my concern about the situation regarding the size of the fish as we made a big order, I didn’t want a refund nor did I want another fish I just didn’t like how I was spoken to when I voiced my opinion in a respectful manor. They will not allow you to have a voice in this restaurant they do not take productive criticism on board at all and start shouting at the customers and make you feel very uncomfortable. In fact one of the workers came across aggressive and started to mimic me and throw his hands around , then clapping his hands being very patronizing. Communication goes a long way. I would think twice before eating here.

Firstly, thank you for your excellent serving. It is is in the centre of the Hastings. Very good place and nice staff. I strongly recommend.

Ordered 4 medium cod. 3 were normal and 1 like a kids' size portion. Asked for a similar size to the other 3 to be told point blank NO! He swiped the plate and said dont eat it then and took it off the bill. To some this may be normal but it turnt into a shouting match with 4 other staff members getting involved. Really rude and not helpful at all. Wish I took pictures to make this review and star rating completely justified for others to see. £11.90 isn't something to keep quiet about when there were 4 adults and 4 kids to pay for. Didn't want a discount or anything free. Just a fair size piece of cod like the other 3. Not much to ask for i dont think. Unnecessarily rude and loud. Will never be going back. Was our second visit there too.

Was taken out for Mothers day evening and fish cooked to order. Hot and tasty and served by a nice guy. Filled us up a treat. Will be back.

I had cod and chips and it was great, but on my second visit I ordered 2 large cods, and a medium cod but they gave me 2 tiny pieces and wrapped them up in one as a large, but it was much smaller than the large. I travelled back home the next morning so I wasnt able to complain. Thats why the 2 stars, I was really disappointed was sharing with kids.

Freshly cooked - crispy chips, crispy fish batter, flaky fish and large portion. Excellent! Better than other fish and chip shops we tried in Hastings.

Very poor. Our fish was grey, greasy and thin. Prices have risen but quality has really gone down. The owner was very rude and said ‘ well take your business elsewhere’ not an apology in sight. No acknowledgement at all, absolutely terrible!

Visited around 5pm on a Sunday, servers were friendly but food was nothing above average if being completely honest. The batter tasted quite oily.

Freshly cooked piping hot food. Chicken and chips cooked to perfection. Expect to wait as everything prepared from scratch. Crispy chicken deep fried for just under £6. Regular chips cost circa £2.50 but could easily feed 2 people. They have garlic and chilli Vinegar but while they smelled potent didn't really taste of garlic or chilli. First time I had seen that on offer however. 8/10 would recommend.

We had Takeaway but there is a restaurant. Situated in Hastings Old Town on seafront opposite acardes near The Stade. No gluten free option.

It's a perfectly ok chip shop but no where near the best in Hastings. Very limited choice of soft drinks as well (7up or coke or diet coke)

Just wanted a portion of chips to eat on the beach and this place was recommended, did it deliver.....YES IT DID... Chips were amazing and no oil in the bag, will return there next time im in Hastings.......

Went in at a spur of the moment decision as visiting Hastings. Chips were freshly cooked had a nice crisps and not too greasy. The sausage had a very crunchy batter but not hard enough that you couldn't eat it easily. Would highly recommend and will visit again when back in hastings

Hands down the best portion of takeaway chips I’ve ever had!! Absolutely spot on, not greasy, just perfectly crispy and soft on the inside deliciousness 👍👍

Ordered large rock and chips only to be served a fish that didn’t have enough meat on it to make two fish fingers. Chips were dry as the had obviously been sitting around for a while. When pointed out to the manger he replied”That’s just how it is!” Really I’ve been eating rock and chips for over fifty years and that’s the worst one I’ve ever had. Due to the managers attitude I will not be attending there again!

Very disappointed with Cod. Two of us ordered a large cod each expecting white fish with reasonable density. Sadly not the case. I struggled to find one mouthful. The service was also poor. This used to be one of the more constant fish eateries in the old town. Now its on our must avoid list. One large bad cod is one thing but two at the same time of order is another. The chips were nice but definitely not an adequate amount. If poor fish is being dished up then i would expect a reasonable amount of chips to compensate so our experience was very poor value for money and we left feeling hungry. 👎

Really nice chips (Just as a chip should be) we will be using Old Town Fryer fish and chip shop from now on ... we tried the rest now we found the BEST!! Very friendly staff highly recommended so a full 5 star rating ☆☆☆☆☆ I Always give a honest trusted review with over 6 million + views.
