Great portions love the box. A bit too greasy

Visited yesterday for the first time since 2010. While it was always the best fish bar on the seafront, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had Improved with the passage of time. I had what was the best cod and chips ever and can’t wait for my next visit.

Many good reviews, perhaps my experience was one off? In two years living in Hastings this was the poorest fish and chips by far. Order of large cod and large chips could fit into competitors small chip pack. Greasy to boot too. Not coming back.

Been going here for donkeys years in my summer holidays. This is such a nice, calm and delicious place to eat. A proper and true old style gem of Hastings. A gem of a bi-gone era

We were a bit concerned after entering the premises, but that's the case with most fisheries isn't it? When we finished our meal, there were no concerns or confusion hahahah, food was delicious and if we could stay for longer in Hastings we'd definitely eat there again.

Great fish and chips cafe, always busy, you have to wait to be seated as it's really popular as its lovely food and great prices too. They also have a take away section as well. We had jumbo sausage and chips. You get a really large portion of chips. Didn't take long to come. Prices are very reasonable for a seaside town, definitely the cheapest along the sea front. Staff were lovely and friendly and helpful. Nicely situated right on the corner of George Street and just opposite the beach.

Das Personal war sehr nett und das Essen dauerte nur knapp 15 Minuten bis es fertig war (frisch gemacht, top!). Es kann selbst gewürzt werden je nach Bedarf. Die Stühle waren nicht ganz bequem aber das Ambiente war schön.

By the far the best chip shop in HASTINGS Chips were amazing really busy as may day but quality was amazing and the great service was outstanding. Want decent fish and chips this is the place to come and cheap to boot

This is the second time we've eaten here. Both times the restaurant has been clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The food is tasty and reasonably priced.

Best fish and chips I've tasted in a long time

Me and my partner had lunch there and the food was absolutely perfect, the portion size was perfect, chips cooked to perfection, cod was tasty and cooked to perfection, the batter was crispy and not caked in oil, and the curry sauce has to be the best sauce I’ve ever tasted. My partner had fish cakes and again, they were cooked beautifully. Service was brilliant and friendly and as of 11/04/23 it is cash only. Every time me and my partner have been to Hastings, we’ve always had lunch here and it’s always been great. Best fish and chips in Hastings.

Only stopped for a bag of chips. Glad I did. Lovely and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the centre. Well recommended.

Service was excellent, even though we popped in on a cold sleety Weds afternoon, prices very reasonable. The chicken nuggets were amazing, with a thin but crisp coating. Very generous portions of curry sauce and beans. Thank you :)

I had a very nice fish and chips, great portions. Small point of improvement, serv the take away in a box. So that people, like me, who want to eat it in their truck or on a bench on the boulevard can eat it more easily.

Absolutely awful experience. The whole shop smelt like sewage. The service was diabolical and the food was stale. If I could give 0 stars I would. Ended up going to the master fish bar and it was incredible

Awful and abrupt service, one star is too high for this 'establishment'. Maybe next time speak to would be customers in a polite tone when asking them to finish an item purchased outside the shop and you won't miss out on a whole family popping in for lunch when you clearly need the money.

Popped in for a quick meal. Wasnt until we were about to order that we realised it was cash only. We had cards but were 40p short of our chosen meal. We were about to leave when the owner said 'dont worry, it's only 40p' Food arrived quickly & was delicious. The shop/restaurant was pretty basic but had everything you needed in regard to condiments. Nice staff, clean restaurant, lovely food ..... Would definitely return again

We always go here while at Hastings. Food tastes great and staff friendly. Would be nice to see more veggie options, maybe battered halloumi or quorn sausage?

Been coming here for over 10 years. Is always the chip shop I use when in Hastings and normally never any complaints. Unfortunately this weekend it was spoilt when just after finishing my meal I looked up and just as I did the man behind the counter coughed quite openly all over the counter. The girls who were serving both had masks on and were covering their mouths if they coughed but this guy thought it was fine just to cough. He saw me looking at him and knew straight away it was wrong. I would have said something but was with my daughter and couldn't be bothered with the hassle. Why would you do this normally, let alone just after the whole Covid situation. Has put me right off ever going back there again.

The food was cooked to order and was delicious, the staff were very polite. everything was good value for money.

We decided to have a burger and chips this was the only place to sell them,we chose to eat here. We wasn't disappointed. We was greeted by a lovely waitress called tia who suggested the place to seat due to having a wheel chair. She showed us to our seats, whilst sharna brought us our menus and took our orders. We were treated very nicely, both waitresses were very polite and accommodating and made sure we had the best experience and always smiling and asking if our food was okay. The food was delicious, chips were crispy and fluffy and the burger went down well. Thank you ladies for looking after us. We will definitely be visiting again. Keep up the hard work

For someone who doesn't eat fish, the options for me are a bit limited. What I did have, a Steak and Kidney pie and chips were pretty good.

Visited when on holiday on early evening 26 August 2021. Lady who was doing front of house has got to be one of the hardest working and efficient people I have ever seen. She was dealing with seating people, taking and delivering orders, clearing up and taking payments. Despite all this she remained positive and cheerful and her customer service was excellent. Although other food was on offer I can only comment on the fish and chips which was tasty and well cooked. Excellent all round.

Visit with my son and daughter . Staff were all lovely , polite and attentive . All food arrived hot and in generous portions . Our favourite fish and chip shop in sussex . Looking forward to our next visit

Stopped here as we were walking past on a recent visit to Hastings. Clean and sanitised restaurant. Quick service and fresh food. We had a double cheeseburger and a veggie burger both of which were tasty and the chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside - perfect! Pleasant service with friendly staff.

Good sized portions, reasonably priced

I had the fish cakes and got food poisoning. When I bit into the fish cake it didn't seem right . I think it had been sitting around for a long time and got warm and unedible. Was very disappointed and wruined my whole weekend!

Good service however the fish cakes weren't right we have had food poisoning all day, do not order the fish cakes at the end of the day..

3 of us had different take-aways and all were impressed. The small cod and small chips was very generous and I have a big appetite! excellent chips and crisp batter. What really impressed was that my meal was ready first and when the guy realised there would be just a few minutes before the others were ready he offered to take mine and keep it hot while we waited. Such thoughtfulness was much appreciated!

Had lunch here yesterday, sat inside. Cod and chips, plaice and chips and 2 teas - all reasonably priced. All exceeded expectations, service fast and efficient. Thin crispy batter, good chips, decent tea. Staff constantly sanitizing and cleaning after customers had left a table. Would definitely return

Visited again yesterday with the family and I have to see, this place is fantastic. Great service, great food - the chips are spot on - and the restaurant has a really traditional feel about it. Will be visiting again very soon!

Takeaway from this shop is perfect, the chefs cook amazing food and the service from the window is exceptional. Don’t even bother entering to sit indoors if you’re looking for a quick and easy meal, sat down and took what felt like hours to order our meal due to the waitress not understanding our order which was the simplest they probably had all day. When our food eventually arrived we asked for salt and got given vinegar, we then asked for two more drinks (cans) whilst we was paying the bill and the waitress got one of the drinks wrong. What should be the simplest task was turned into the most complicated process so we left with the wrong drink feeling like we had just been pranked and quite literally looking for the cameras because it was so ridiculous. So stick to take outs from this chippy!

Considering there are loads of fish and chips restaurants it was hard to pick one out. We were lucky to pick this one, the portions were good and the fish and chips hot. Prices were reasonable and as expected. Service was friendly and we sat outside, good to be able to in these Covid times.

We visited here after before heading to the adventure golf. Greeted by a friendly young waitress who asked us to wait whilst she sanitised a table. Once seated the sane young lady took our order starting with 2 cups of tea. His and is very fussy with his tea liking it strong and most places don't get it right. Not here... Our request was met. We ordered two cod and chips. The restaurant was reasonably busy and we could also hear take away orders coming in. We could gear the chef advising the waiting time as everything cooked fresh. Whilst we waited on our food the young waitress did not stop busying herself either with customers or cibstantly cleaning tables, chairs, menus.Our meals arrived piping hot. The chips were by far the best we have ever had. Crispy on the oytsydr, fluffy inside and they tasted of potatoe... Sounds silly but often they just taste greasy. The cod was white and succulent with the lightest, crispiest batter you could ask for. We live in Maidstone and our nearest fish and chip shop has won National Awards... And yet the Old Town Fish Bar is far far nicer in our opinion. Quite simply the best fish and chips we have tasted. 2 cod and chips and 2 teas came to £17. Compliments to the chef at this little restaurant and to the lovely, waitress who has excellent customer service and a delightful manner.

I was parked up at the beach with some picnic tables in front of me. It’s late afternoon, warm and it looks like it’s going to be a good sunset. I pay for another hours parking and look for somewhere to get take out food. This place is the nearest I got a very reasonably priced pie and chips and return to the picnic table to eat (hounded by a dozen noisy seagulls who demand I share my food with them). Pie tasty, chips perfectly cooked, seagulls annoying but unfed

Batter on the fish is the lightest crispiest I have ever had thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff are really friendly.

The food was pretty good and the staff were helpful and friendly. However, the service was a little slow. We didn't have to wait a long time, but it seems like they are more focused on getting the takeaway orders done first before moving on to the people who are eating in. The restaurant also felt quite outdated and old. The signs outside the restaurant look old and it doesn't really feel like an exciting place to eat. There was no air conditioning and we were eating on one of the hottest days of the year, so it felt quite uncomfortable. There are many other fish & chip restaurants in Hastings. So, if you are looking for one, it's best to look for other restaurants, as this restaurant doesn't really feel like an exciting place to eat at all.

Very tasty and fresh fish. Hake portion was one of the largest I had so far at any chippy (and we are having one every time while going to the beach :-). At the price 6.20£ this is a steal and I couldn't believe the portion size for the price charged with chips being too much for me. Well cooked chips. Side of mashy peas at £1 very big and tasty. Good luck to them !.

ho my cod is the best on queens road large fish chips a fiver and free sausage chips on tuesday between 12 and 2pm

Went there with a family of 5 on Sunday 6th October 2019, pretty empty at the time, the food come reasonably quick but one plate had a hair on it, told the waitress to replace the food and when it come to the bill not any form of discount, when questioned we was told we replaced it did we! Won’t be going back there!

We came here for lunch as we had just come out from the smugglers adventure and it was the best chippie ever. The staff were lovely and were always there to help. The meals were incredible and we're really nice with a reasonable price. The drinks and the food came fast so you weren't waiting for too long and the milkshakes have lots of flavour. To top it all of the chairs are super comfy. It was so nice we all devoured our meals. I have to give it to the chefs as it was a super hot day and they did not stop no matter what. If I had to rate it out of 10 it would be off the chart. I recommend to anyone!

Ordered a takeaway but asked if we could sit at outside tables as a windy but sunny day, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and the fish and chips were fantastic! There are plenty of average or poor chip shops in Hastings so avoid them and head straight here. Chips lovely, cod , Huss and haddock all lovely and fresh, lovely light crisp batter. Scampi also lovely and crisp, portions very generous. My 12 old nephew said best haddock and chips he’s ever had !! :) would recommend

Arrived at a busy lunch time, but was quickly shown to a table, ordered the cod and chips and a large tea. The tea arrived quickly and the food arrived very soon afterwards. Chips were perfect and the fish had a really nice light batter, good value for the price, will visit again.
