After lots of good visits we had an awful experience today. Probably won't go back. We got to the cafe just before 2pm. My sister's schnauzer sometimes barks (as dogs do especially schnauzers). She barks at people as she is a nervous dog but a very good dog and settles really quickly. I choose the cafe as well behaved dogs are welcome and we've been lots of times. Ñ As we went in Poppy barked. I got her to stop barking very quickly. We went around the corner and sat in the small side bit where we always sit right around up the small staircase and round to the left where Poppy will not see other people coming in or out. We were told we couldn't sit there are they were closing soon (2pm!!!), they put us right by the front door. I asked if we could sit in the corner as we wouldn't be long and Poppy may bark at people coming in. When some workmen came in Poppy barked and I was told if the dog didn't stop barking we would have to leave. It was delivered in a rude manner. We were going to leave as we were flabbergasted by the rudeness of the oldest member of staff, but we had already ordered. Whilst we were eating my friend who only had a hot drink wanted to get a flap jack but at 2.15pm they started putting all the cakes away. Then people kept arriving around 2.20ish until 2.30pm just before we let and they were all told no food was available only hot drinks. They lost so much business in that time and their sign says open until 3pm. As we left about 2 40pm, there were 2 ladies that were sat in the side section where we had asked to sit in....leaving at same time.as us, so there was absolutely no reason why we couldn't have sat there when we first arrived at 2pm. It was extremely unwelcoming, not by all staff as we did have a really nice waitress, apparently our dog was scaring one of the waitresses,Poppy is not a scary dog she is just a barky breed. As they didn't have anything we wanted to order from the menu they stood around us for longer than they needed to whilst we re chose what to have. It would have been handy to say we don't have this and we don't have that when they come over to take your order so you know before you start choosing. The Old School Cafe needs to update it's sign and say no food from 2.15pm only hot drinks and limited seating from 2pm as small side section is closed for cleaning. If I'd had known this I would have gone somewhere else. If this was my cafe I would want business still coming from 2pm to 2.30pm and the staff would tidy the cafe at 3pm once everyone had left. How can they justify closing of that small section at 2pm when there was a couple in there who left the same time we did. No common sense or courtesy I did say the dog would bark by the door. Dog owners be wary of this and maybe find somewhere a bit more welcoming especially if you come at 2pm thinking you have a whole hour to get some food. I had already apologised for the barking and was nothing but polite, the older lady staff member needs to speak to customers in a more friendly and polite way. If your dog sometimes barks then maybe the Old School cafe is not for you. Id go to Heathervale cafe or a nice local pub

I was looking for somewhere else but couldn't find it, and was delighted to find this wonderful cafe. The staff were lovely even though it was packed, no ill humour from being so busy. Toasted English Muffin with Spinach & poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce. It was very filling (2 eggs) and I was very pleased to have got lost!

Really good choice of food in a nice relaxed café. Helpful staff especially Lilly. Delicious food well presented.Just a suggestion - a children's menu would be a good idea if only to make smaller portions available and to offer waffles with bacon and syrup which seems to go down well with grandchildren. Apart from that a definite 10/10

We popped in when passing yesterday on the off chance, on the way back from Chertsey. Harry was behind the counter and was very welcoming. The bacon baps and hot drinks were delicious. It is nicely set out and light and airy. Although when we were there, it wasn’t that busy, I know it’s very popular in the week. Definitely worth a visit. We’ll be back soon. (Oh and it’s dog friendly). X

The Old School Cafe used to be old school style, but it's changed for the better. They do a generous and super tasty breakfast, with nice sourdough toast. The coffee has been consistently excellent when I've visited. I would go here for the coffee alone. They have menu options for everyone, from a classic full English breakfast, vegetarian and vegan options (ones that look tasty enough to tempt an omnivore such as myself). The only downside is it's clearly popular, so it can be quite busy (though it seems to be well staffed with friendly hard working folks).

We love coming here with the dogs after a long walk - it gets very busy after around 10am usually so we plan our walk early to beat the rush. The menu is wide with plenty of veggie and vegan choices in addition to the standard yummy English fayre. Service level depends on how busy it is, which is understandable. There’s always a sausage from the staff for the dogs which is a lovely touch. Best brekkie cafe in the area by far!

First time at this place, expecting a hearty fry up , as it’s “Fry-Up-Friday .The price was £2.00 more than other cafes around the area .Put in my order, a “classroom” and service was good, approx. 15 mins wait .It arrived and the sausages were very tough and so was the bacon ☹️. The fried egg was one of the smallest I’ve ever eaten and the yolk was hard .The beans were tasteless and the chips were very average .All this, and-without a drink was £7.95 .I also ordered two slices of toast, & 95p each .A grand total of £9.85 (and no tea or coffee) Stop and try this establishment and I look forward to reading your reviews

I went here for lunch last week and said to the lady serving "what do you recommend". She immediately replied "the steak pie". So steak pie it was. With a cup of tea it was just over £10 which did make me wince a bit. However I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I really cannot fault any part of that lunch. Peas and carrots had clearly just been cooked and both were of good quality. Mashed potato, seasoned correctly and no lumps. Now to the Pie. Excellent pastry, no soggy bottom here!. Packed full of large pieces of meat with no fat or gristle to speak of. So would I order it again at that price?. In a heart beat.

Finished work early so decided to visit for a mid morning breakfast like I have before , it was very quiet .I ordered the full English with an extra egg and a tea . I took the tea to my table , it did look quite strong , it was actually really strong and also it didn’t taste nice , not a good start .My breakfast soon arrived , the two eggs were cooked to within an inch of their lives , hard yolks .The fried bread was very pale and hardly cooked , I wish I had taken a picture it looked as bad as it tasted . As I say there were not busy at all . I don’t really like to complain , I’m not fussy , but the whole meal was so poor I didn’t know where to start , and it’s not cheap . Off home for a nice cup of tea but won’t be back .

Me and a colleague visited this ‘cafe’ We ordered two egg baps with mushrooms hash brown and cheese for a bit of enjoyable Friday morning pay day sustenance,,, how we were wrong.Enjoyable i think not, how can you ruin not 1 2 or three fried eggs, BUT FO4R, all the eggs in our bap had been mutilated beyond repair, scrambled / bartered- destroyed eggs, you can imagine our despair to top it off we had approximately 3 1/4 small pieces of mushrooms and a small handful of NON melted cheese incorrectly positioned at the bottom of the bap with no chance of real melting on the top of eggs or hash brown?!?The has brown was ok.How can you not have runny eggs in an egg bap, I’m quite flabbergasted to be completely honest. I think the said egg chef should resign with immediate effect and the restaurant have an over haul review on their egg service.

Being going here for years. Have to say the last 3 visits have been disappointing. I think it’s gone downhill. The food is average for the price but that hasn’t changed much. Front of house service is terrible. Expect a long wait just to order and pay if it’s even slightly busy. Think perhaps they just can’t get the staff but it takes forever to order. The other problem is if people order a Latte etc it’s the same person who makes it and adds to the time. 2 Saturdays ago it took over 20 min just to queue up and get a tea! They really need to sort it out.

£5.95 for a full English with a cup of tea is pretty good. You might expect cheap bacon and sausage at these prices, but no. Three (should have been two I think) good quality rashers of bacon and a rather nice sausage. Beans were good and I rather liked the fried bread which was pan fried rather than deep fried. Tea best avoided as is allowed to stew all morning in a large urn.Service is often very slow, due to an apparent lack of efficiency in the kitchen, cooking one plate at a time despite having a large number of similar breakfast orders queued up.Proprietors are inflexible and lack customer focus.Visited several times in the past as I enjoy a cooked breakfast on a Saturday morning, but have now given up on the place. There are cheaper, quicker and friendlier options elsewhere.

My husband and I decided to visit The Old School Café as it had been recommended to us. I was a bit dubious as I had always thought that it was a geeasy spoon café for builders and lorry drivers. I imagined it was not frequented by females. How wrong I was. The café on Saturday at 10.45 was packed with families, groups of ladies and some workers of the male variety! We had a nicely cooked breakfast and tea and toast. The brown bread was very thin-which was a disappointment to me, and our cups of black tea had been stewed in the large tea urn/pot. The bacon was lean and the sausage served was Cumberland. Although" changes are not permitted" according to the menu you can choose between beans or plum or fresh tomatoes, between fried bread or toast and between fried egg or scrambled - what more could you want? The café was very noisy but it was clean and tidy with old pine furniture. The staff were all friendly despite being very busy.Next time we will try the Olympic breakfast as it appeared to be better value as it included a hot drink and extra Hash Brown and onion rings for only £1 more than the full English.

I have been to the Old School Cafe twice in the last few weeks and it's a great alternative for me when I get bored of the same office canteen fare.Following a comment on here I made a point of ordering a coffee (espresso) the last time I was there and I am pleased to say is was made from a decent machine, served correctly with a nice biscuit and tasted delicious. Equally my BLT sandwich came with a nice amount of mayonnaise, crispy bacon and wonderfully soft bread. The staff I have dealt with on both occasions have always been pleasant and courteous but then that's how I am to them, which may not always be the case with some customers.I will definitely go back to the Old School Cafe to sample more of the menu soon.

Had to order a 'create your own' as I was unable to swap out any item from the regular meals on the menu which is a luxury I've been afforded in literally every other establishment I've ever been in. Ended up paying nigh on nine quid. The girl taking my order for some reason seemed to have a particular problem with my request for an extra hash brown on my girlfriends order, not that before this point she was ever gonna win any charm awards. We sat down, my toast came, we waited ten mins. Our (luke warm) food came. I requested politely (and I was very conscious of being polite as there appeared to be an air of 'I couldn't give a f@&k' resonating from the 'team') that since my toast had been sat in front of me for ten minutes, it could perhaps be exchanged for some fresh toast, not an unreasonable request I thought?! Well, the reaction to this from the Kevin and Perryesque 'waitress' would suggest I had well overstepped the mark! I was literally leered at as if I'd broken into her house on Christmas morning and pi$$ed all over her presents! In hindsight, I was clearly bang out of order to make such a demand, and I should've suffered the stone cold toast, alongside the £9.00 plate of barely heated goodies in front of me. The toast was replaced, but the little part of me that died inside the cafe that morning never will be!

Well cooked but not good value for money , would normally expect to pay around £ 4 .00 for a breakfast as small as this not £6 .95 .

the cafe is in a beautiful area of woodland, just far away enough from the big roads and towns. I had a really good veggie breakfast, I've seen bigger portions but it was all very tasty. The staff are great, but what let the place down (for me) was the dreadful coffee. If that doesn't bother you, then it's 5 stars, but it's a 2 star deal-breaker for medefinitely go if you're in the vicinity and you fancy something to eat

After many years passing by and recommendations by friends, finally visited the Old School Cafe. Not disappointed by food or service. I had one of their breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed it and the person I was with had their Cottage Pie. All was fresh and tasty and portions were generous. A fair range of options and cakes looked inviting. Will visit again if and when I have a chance.

We arrived at this place after passing it many times on our travels. We decided to stop for lunch after visiting the funeral directors. The staff at the bar when we arrived was very friendly and informative. The food we ordered was over seasoned and burnt, and the owner/manager was unfriendly and rude. I will never go back to that place again. Instead of wiping it off the bill 🙄 they had the odacity to offer us a £5 refund!!! Would you Adam and Eve it

After reading the very inviting comprehensive website I called to make a breakfast reservation in The Lounge at 9.30am. I was told by a very supercilious telephone operator that this is not possible ...it is 1st come 1st serve before 12.30pm which is not listed on the very comprehensive website.I then asked for other options and was told very superciliously that there were none.I expressed my disappointment in this not being listed on said website and she didn't give a darn. Well shes getting paid regardless.
