Old Leyland Gates in South Ribble

I just visited this eatery again and had a burger together with my humans, as it was ‘buy one get one free’, so they allowed me to have a cheeseburger as a treat. Really enjoyed the yummy food and I like the friendly staff. This place is my favourite place to go and I’d recommend it to other dogs. Hope my humans take me again soon.

Came with my husband and children for drinks and food and one of my children have autism and food aversions and got a McDonald's to eat, which the pub has never had a problem with before, to the man have my son turfed out the pub to eat his food. Only 1 staff member was apologetic about it. Disgraceful behaviour to paying patrons.

Had the two for £13.49 special, my hubby had the all day breakfast and I had the 8oz grilled gammon meal both were really good and the service was good too. Nothing at all to moan about

Local pub and eatery that has various areas to sit and have a drink and meals. Extensive meal choices with competitive prices whilst non alcoholic drinks are quite costly. Staff were excellent from bar and service, smartly dressed and interactive. Different days have “specials” that can save you £s : today’s meals of ribs and half chicken was very good and although we had an issue with a steak it was quickly and efficiently replaced. The Gates has become our after work spot on a Friday, staff are very friendly. Good atmosphere and always seems to be clean and tidy.

We attend this pub on a healthy regular basis! Staff are ace and very personable and helpful, which is hard to come by these days (as we all know)! Cannot fault this fine establishment, prime location and more than worth a visit and regular appearances are advised. Food is very steady too. Ticks all the boxes. Special mention for Paul also, the whole vibe of the pub stems from this exceptional gent.

Absolutely awful food and service. Not suprised it was empty on a saturday after noon. Ordered the southern fried chicken flarbread and no salad on it and the chicken was so hard

Attentive staff welcomed us , quickly took both our drink and food orders. Seating is comfortable and not cramped. Good choices of food from a fairly large menu and with deals like 2 for, or BOGOF prices are within most people’s budget. Service was fairly quick and staff ensured that we had everything we needed. We had 2 meals from the two for menu in Hunters chicken and fish and chips. Just like home cooked food without the need to wash the dishes! Overall a quick and pleasing experience with nothing but praise for staff

I wrote a bad review a few years ago and just wanted to update it. Since new management this place has become fantastic. Food is lovely, a great selection and knowledgeable staff. If you’ve had a bad experience before I’d ask you to give it another chance!

I went here for a pre-Christmas doggie lunch with my two humans. I chose a combination of sausage and chicken, off the doggie menu, nicely chopped up for me and the nice barman brought me a large bowl of water too. Everyone wanted to make a fuss of me, which was great and the service was good too. I shall be recommending this place to my doggie friends. My humans said they enjoyed their food too, (I pinched a few of their chips). I’ve asked them if they can take me again soon.

Last evening, We, Royal Navy Association, Leyland Branch, held our Christmas meal at Old Leyland Gates. We asked for reserved tables for 22 people ,1900 for 1930. On arrival the seating was reserved and Shipmates turned up on time. The Festive crackers on the tables, a nice touch to add to the evening, thankyou for that. A very big BZ (Well done in Naval terms) to All the staff for the Superb food and efficient Service. Not our first time having meals there, definitely won't be our last. Up Spirits.

Since having a refurbishment we have been visiting weekly for a BOGOF burger and quiz night. Tasty burgers, friendly staff (including the resident dog) and a welcoming atmosphere. Look forward to our Thursday local pub night.

Me and partner eat here regularly and never had a complaint on the food or service. Food is decent price and they have different offers on each day as to be expected by chain pub. Staff who work here are friendly and chef always cooks food to a decent standard, well worth a visit for a decent cheap pub lunch!

Not been in here for a while as it went downhill. Started going in again as it has improved only to be greeted one day by a dog and not just lied on the floor but sat on a chair. Pubs that sell food should NOT allow dogs in. They have a smell about them especially when wet and it is totally unhygienic where food is being served. This dog was about 3 or 4 yards from the kitchen area where the waitresses were walking past with plates of food. Absolutely disgusting. Dogs should be banned from all pubs but especially where food is concerned. Will not be going in again, get your act together Leyland Gates.

my wife and i arrived to a nice welcome,had surf turf and chuck, hot and very tasty but the steak was a bit tough enjoyed it though. wife had lasagna,fussy eater but loved it finished her plate, not often that happens lol, had a sticky toffie date pudding she had bakewell tart both again superb,good food,good staff, good price, what more can you ask ?

Very nice food, not the largest selection but good steaks an burgers. I had a chicken pick and mix which was very tasty an cooked well. My lager was nice and clean and the good lady had a house red wine which she enjoyed too. I like to eat early here as I see it as a drinking pub.

Visited for the Christmas meal and really shocked how downhill the service has gone in this once lovely pub. We've not visited since around August in which the service was good and we've never had any severe problems.We came in for the Christmas meal in which there was us and another group having it, the rest of the place was extremely quiet. There was simple trip-ups such as two wine glasses missing, three chairs and some cutlery but that was forgivable. Unfortunately most of the meal was ruined by the group behind us who were extremely drunk, rowdy and inappropriate. It's understandable that the staff can't help that, but nobody asked them to stop especially as they were making very sexual and racist jokes.The food was good, however our vegan guest was served a non-vegan meal despite us specifically requesting the vegan option and double checking. The staff member apologised saying "I misread it as vegetarian", but then the mistake was repeated again with the dessert and non-vegan ice cream. It's good that they had dined here before and knew the ice cream wasn't right as they are lactose intolerant and would have made our Christmas even worse.The staff were very pleasant and seemed apologetic and no problem was too big or small. As I can see from other reviews there's some serious issues that need sorting here before we go back, and unfortunately they have lost us as customers until they get their service back up to scratch.

Been to the leyland gates on a number of times but of resent it's been bad service! Food just ok but nothing to right home about! Management is nowhere to be seen! Plates left on tables when it's clearly quiet! Seen another couple take their plates to the bar themselves! All in all we won't be visiting again!

Visited as we regularly use Wetherspoons because my girlfriend has cealiacs disease and can't eat gluten. Wetherspoons have previously always had a gluten free menu, now you just get handed a giant "allergens" folder and told "work it out yourself". Looking at the allergens folder now unless you want to eat just a baked potato you have zero choice at wetherspoons if you're gluten intolerant. Really bad for a national chain. We won't be visiting again!

Ive recently started using this pub as im new to the area, and i can honestly say ive always been made to feel really welcome, made some new friends, and always a pleasure to be served by the lovey Nicola, who always greets you with a friendly smile, and goes out of here way to make sure your stay is pleasurable,also the food is lovely too never had a problem,

Had a lovely meal with the family, service was absolutely fab, food was great and really well priced. A family member is gluten free and there was so much choice - made life a lot easier.The manager Peter told us about the Halloween party coming up, we'll be there, kids can't wait :)!

We visited the pub last Wednesday and wow what a difference since the new manager food was amazing and the steak was actually still sizzling as it came out the kitchen,jemma and harry was so helpful and welcoming Definitely will be returning more often

Came in at 12:30 on Friday and the young gentlemen who served me was excellent. Excellent service went out of his way above and beyond just so I could get a pint of darkfruits. Will defo be coming back to re visit this young man :)

It's always good here for football the atmosphere is great and the service is wonderful! Nicola, Chelsea Harry and Gemma are always a good laugh and easy to get along with!

I come in hear often, and the bar staff Harry in particular always makes it a good night. Such a pleasant guy always smiling, have a good laugh with him. Sometimes it’s the staff who can make a place. 👍

After visiting last year I never thought I’d be writing this review but the Leyland Gates is back how it used to be and it feels like a proper pub again with good food. Nice to see happy and friendly staff behind the bar. Harry made me feel very welcome and felt like I could have a conversation with him whilst he worked. Will definitely be returning soon and I think others should give the gates another chance because the new management is showing in a good light!

Took the kids as a finale to a fab weekend. We had a mix of meals but 5 clean plates at the end said it all. And the kids had ice cream sundaes which made their eyes light up. Nicola who served us was very attentive and great with the kids too. Will def be returning next time we are in the area.

Came to watch the England Vs Czech’s game. A great split of people and was made to feel very welcome by staff and guests alike. A varied range of beers and guest ale’s. I chose the IPA which was kept well. Eventually I ordered some food which was just pub grub but piping hot and very fresh too. The young lady Nicola brought my food to the table with a pleasant smile and delightful mannerisms.

As usual a nice place to come to in Leyland for a drink or two. Had a great gin and tonic and Nicola behind the bar gave us great service. We'll keep coming back!

Went with family last week and ordered a couple of challanges between us all. Great food and good atmosphere all round. Gemma and Harry begins the bar where very friendly and helpful and made an effort with the kids. Strongly recommend and will be returning soon!

Popped in for tea on 8th October and it was lovely. I had the chick and mix with char siu sauce and my partner had the Xl hunters chicken. The food arrived quickly and hotel and generous portion. Both meals were lovely. Nicola who sorted us was also very pleasant and helpful.

I hated coming here last year avoided the place but sister asked if I wanted to go for tea out n she said gates ! I absolutely would now reccomened the food was fantastic I had the loaded chicken strips two for 8.99 omg it was fab !! My little lad had curry! Loved it my other son had lasagne all the food was beautiful ! We all tried abit of each harry behind the bar was so helpful ! And peter the new manager was so friendly honestly HIGHLY recommend!!!!

We arrived and got a bad reception as soon as we walked through the door. I had to ask the manager if he had a problem because he was saying to other customers that he couldn't be bothered and generally had a bad attitude toward us. Our age ranged from 8yrs to 70yrs. I then asked them if they could put candles on a cake and the woman behind the bar who took it from me with force. The meals came out first without sauce which was an option on the menu no alternative. I asked for chips instead of waffles in the order, we hot waffles so I said we ask for chips? she shouted over her shoulder i will get chips. The gourmet burger was disgusting and lastly my 8 year olds food didn't arrive so I said we are waiting for her food and she said what she order. Disgarful for a place that used to be good.

Thought i would retry as have been disapointed in the past with the service.some things dont change neither has this .staff training would help here. Had to walk out in the end.

Food was dry and over cooked half menu wasn't available coffee machine wasn't working tables were filthy floor was also filthy full of flys this place has gone down hill over recent years when walking in was greeted with smashed windows avoid

First time trying here, wouldn’t come back. The steak was fatty dry and had a strange taste, service was ok but yeah would avoid if you want a decent meal

Myself and my partner visited on Fathers day, I went to the bar ordered food and got some drinks. After waiting around 50 minutes I asked the young girl behind the bar if there was a problem as we had been waiting ages, she told us it would be around 10 minutes more , After about 15 minutes our food arrived and the girl said the sausage would be ready shortly. My partner then asked for the manager, who to be fair was very helpful. We were given a full refund on the food, as we were leaving my partner went to the ladies and came back out heaving. She said the toilets were disgusting. Do yourself a favour and avoid.

Ordered several meals two on a special promotion for the occasion. The meal ordered from the grill section was OK as expected from a grill establishment. However two promotion meals arrived after 40 minutes waiting. Photos below. The chicken was rubbery and different to eat. The lamb was barely warm and extremely fatty. Vegetables overcooked broccoli went to mush and green beans limp and tasteless. Roast potatoes and mash a disappointment. Also went for a larger meal on the lamb as per offer, however there were only 3 additional roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding with stuffing and a few green beans extra in comparison. Overall would not recommend or be going again.

Excellent friendly staff with excellent value food. The menu choice cannot be faulted with a good range of main meals, starters & deserts, Especially good value for us pensioners during the week.

This is a nice place to go for a drink, it has outdoor seating. I found the drinks quite expensive compared to other pubs in Leyland.

Was served raw chicken in my chicken tikka when telling the server she obviously didn’t seem bothered and didn’t pass it on as nothing was done about it

Our regular visit turned out to be a bit of let down. New menu and rehashed choices wasn't quite what we expected. Smoothered sizzler steaks are now basic steaks with additional cost for sauces. New pick and mix chicken dishes offers a variety of adds on. Steak didn't meet the previous standard and although we pointed this out, we had a chat about it but didn't overall complain as hostess was sympathetic; service was good and drinks ok.
