Just been to the Midge in Leyland food was awful told the staff wouldn't be coming back again to eat they weren't bothered at all

We had the carvery meal, out of 9 of us 8 had the two meat choices, but I had only the beef, the beef was really under cooked that it was almost raw, I could barely cut it never mind eat it, the others ate the other choice but again they all said the beef was horrible and left it I paid for three meals ( adults) after I'd paid I told the waitress who seemed to be in charge about the meat, her reply was "I'll tell the chef" No apology, One of our party overheard a conversation that the Chef and the waitresses were having some kind of dispute so service was suffering as a result. I wouldn't recommend this as a place to visit. We dine out in lots of places and this was abysmal. Normally at a carvery you pay either prior to getting your choice and walk up to the counter servery the chef cuts your choice of meats then you help yourself, MIDGE HALL as a different system, we had pre-booked our meal when we arrived we were shown our tables, then when we were getting up to go to the servery, we were told we would be called up to get served, so we sat for almost 40 minutes after our reserved time no explanations, nor any reason, there was plenty of food at the servery, then the waitress came over and said you can go and be served now. Strange thing was several customers came in after we got there and got served before us.!

Visited many times and always had a great experience. On Sunday 8th September we visited and things seemed different. One of our main meals was Lemon Prawns that should have come with Salad and chips, fairly simple. We asked for no dressings or sauces on any of the food and when it arrived the prawns and chips were full of mayonnaise, and the salad was only lettuce. We asked for it to be changed, which it was, but we still had the same bowl of lettuce. But the main issue turned out to be that the prawns were tough, chewy and covered in far too much batter, and I have no idea where lemon comes into the description as there was no such taste and no lemon slice served for flavour.

The food was excellent, and the Service just the same

The chef and staff made our wedding anniversary very special. The new menu is great - as is the rump steak and salmon fish cakes. Thank you ladies.

Visited recently was really disappointed and think the food has taken a fall, always been my local, been visiting for years celebrating occasions through our family, this is the 2nd time in 6 months and food wasn’t up to scratch. Sunday carvery flies everywhere!

Rundown and poor quality of food.

My first time since change of ownership and refurbishment, although I'm led to believe that was a few years ago. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. Large range on the menu, and the service was excellent too. The bay windowsill could have done with a duster, but the table, crockery, glassware and cutlery were spotless.

Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend coming here The food isn't the best We waited nearly a hour for It to come and was the wrong chicken gougons when it came. No apology Windows rotting outside It needs some refurbishment Before the windows actually fall out

Highly recommended! Indoor & outdoor seating options. Covered outdoor space in the rear garden. Dog friendly with allocated area near the rear of the pub. To die for chips (fluffy like triple cooked roasties!). Steak & Ale Pie is the best around with pastry topper & deep chunky steak & gravy deep filling. Lovely staff & cosy pub. Massive menu selection. Will definitely be back! X

This is usually a good place to go for a casual night out and food but this is the third time I have been turned away for food at 19:30 with at least 4 tables empty and I don’t mind eating outside.

What can I say terrible experience, myself and family have been going there for years I travel through from Manchester to take my mum out every other weekend. Yesterday the 11th of July I took my mum for lunch, the young girl who served us had a really bad attitude, which I have noticed previously but not mentioned it. Yesterday was disgusting, we sat for ages waiting for our meal, a family who came in after us got their food and we were still waiting, I called her over to mention we have been waiting a while, she stormed off to the kitchen shouting to the kitchen staff so we could hear , there are customers out there complaining about they have been waiting a long time for their meal. After that her attitude got worse brought the meal my steak was cold didn’t dare complain as she would have bitten my head off. Then to top it all she started banging the cutlery about. We will not be going back that young lady needs to go on a customer care course. It completely ruined our day.

Opted for the Sunday lunch carvery which was very tasty with the turkey being a particular highlight. A large selection of vegetables were available to compliment the meats. Caverys can be hit or miss and this was just about a hit. Roast potatoes, mash, brussel sprouts and yorksires were top notch. The remaining vegetables were a bit soggy and bland. The wooden table and chairs made it feel like I was at school again. The tables had glass tops which just felt odd and could if done with a good wipe down. The alternative menu was extensive with a wide range and varied selection of burgers of all shapes and sizes available. There is a beer garden and a large free carpark Friendly and effective service (you're kind of left alone) meant we had a nice couple of hours.

Super meal will come back soon, staff friendly and helpful ignore all the other reviews people have left as we loved it

We hadn’t been to the midge hall since the 90’s so as we were on a trip to the uk from Australia we thought we would have a nostalgic trip back. We were not disappointed although the pub had had a makeover there were still certain parts of the pub that remained from our last visit. The young ladies that were running the bar and taking the food orders were very polite and helpful the food was very good and reasonable priced overall it was a great experience and had we a longer stay would have loved to go back again.

Just been here with my mrs for dinner and was the worse £30 I've spent in food. Burger came with onions on when I requested not to have them. Burger went back stuff got scrapped of microwaved then the same toppings put back on. I could still taste onions!! Half my chips raw. My mrs asked for a medium rare steak on ciabatta with peppers and onions no mention of mushrooms on the menu and yes it came with mushrooms on! ALSO came well done. My mrs doesn't like mushrooms. Then the ciabatta was very soggy on the bottom. We used to come here often and food was great but sorry to say I won't be coming back unless things change

We visited here this evening as two couples after previously visiting before and we can honestly say that both service and meals have deteriorated since last time we were there, out of the 4 meals two were good (steak fajitas and blackened chicken baguette) and two not so good (belly buster burger was very dry and overcooked and the beer battered goujons were greasy and not very tasty unfortunately) Onto service there were 2 staff on duty taking orders, doing the bar and serving however one was very much working harder than the 2 her name was lexi and she is credit to your establishment. Unfortunately due to the lack of attention and food quality we will not be visiting again anytime soon hopefully in time things may improve and it’s a shame I felt the need to have to leave this review.

Like being back at school wooden tables and chairs, tables not clean, restaurant prices in a pub. Slow service. We booked for 8 people. We won't be going again it use to be so nice before they changed it. Food when you get your pie it's in a deep dish which is hard to eat out of chips in wire basket, mush peas weren't nice in a small pot

I arranged to take my sister for lunch on Friday 22 March, we arrived at 12pm, the lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. I noticed the menus were very scruffy and dirty! we both made our choices; My sister ordered lamb chops - they were ok. I ordered fish & chips, absolutely disgusting! thick with oil (even on the plate). I told the lady I was disatisfied with meal - she said choose something else. I chose Chicken, Ham & Leek pie, it arrived in a dish with chips and condiments also. The pie was tasteless, boiled chicken, a very very thick crust! the sauce was cornflour with no taste at all. The chips were also very poor - so I hardly ate any of the meal, a complete waste of money. Overall my experience at the Midge Hall was a complete let down. It used to be privately owned, and very good.

It was our anniversary this evening. I phoned and booked the table and specifically asked for a corner table near the wall due to my hearing and disability. We were booked in at 5.30pm and plonked on the middle of the room next to the bar with people passing every 2 minutes music playing full pelt. I must add that all other tables that would have been great for us were empty for the full time we were there!! So for the whole meal I couldn't have a conversation with my husband due to the noise abd not being able to hear him. I do have to say the food was great though. About 30 minutes into the meal a baby started screaming 😱 and it went on, and on and on to the point we put the whole meal 50quids worth in a doggy bag paid for it and left. ( we are grand parents so we don't mind the children however this aas unacceptable) this is why we had asked to be sat where we wernt put. Overall a complete waste of money and a very upsetting end to our anniversary meal. Needless to say we won't be going again. I can't even begin to say how this has upset me. What was meant to be a nice night ended up a complete disaster 😑

Well it’s gone down hill at the midge hall 🤮. Went for a carvery at 6pm on a Sunday night the meal was terrible and the service was poor The parsnips and the cauliflower cheese were undercooked ie crunchy and rock hard. The roast potatoes were over cooked and burnt. One of us ordered the mammoth burger but it wasn’t available no bread !! So ordered the next burger which was advertised with all the trimmings ie one slice of tomato one lettuce leaf and no cheese I don’t know which was worse the food or watching one of the cooks stood behind the carvery counter counting out her wages on the food counter and handling the money. I was glad that the bill was only £62 if it had been anymore I would have refused to pay it and I won’t be going back.

I went to Midge Hall this week in a party of 7 for lunch. The pub was nice, it was in a nice area and it was easy to find. The food was good pub food and we all enjoyed our meals. The service wasn’t great though. We were just totally left to it. Our glasses were drank dry and we had to wait well over 1/2 an hour for our food to come. I would return, but not in a group.

Fantastic food and service we will definitely visit again soon.

Enjoyed a nice meal with family. The lasagne I had was ok but very like Dolmio sauce which let it down a bit. I would recommend for a pub tea rather than a special occasion. If you love burgers, the burger menu is immense with some unusual concoctions.

I have been here many times over the last 20+ years and never left a review Midday lunchtime visit this week. Welcoming staff member on duty. Large menu choice available. My sister ordered chicken burger and chips (no photos available), very nicely presented. I ordered chipolata meatballs with rice and chips. The pub was spacious and easily accommodated my grandson in his pram. Everything about this place was great. One minor issue...3 attempts at ordering from the menu resulted in the choices being unavailable. I have not rated this lower, as the food we did order was in fact very good. We both ordered desserts....mine being Oreo cookie crumble. Came with a choice of cream or ice-cream. Also very good. For anyone who has not been to the Midge Hall I would certainly recommend you give it a try....the pub, atmosphere, service and food could not be faulted. Not far from the motorway network and surrounded by towns, countryside or parks to visit at the same time.

The food was very good. There are a ton of options. Including an entire menu of just burgers. Got the ploughman lunch and portions were very generous and pleasantly displayed. Would highly recommend

Had a lovely Sunday carvery it was hot and very tasty.

My family and I are regular customers at the Midge. We visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. A party of 3. Myself, my hissbamd and our elderly Grandad (95). We all had the Sunday carvery. So what can I say about our experience. We were greeted with a smile and a professional manner. The manager ( Lexi ) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome settled us at our table before asking for our drinks order. She even got my Gramdad an extra cushion as he has lost a lot of weight and finds sitting on a hard chair difficult at times. He felt that she made an effort to make his experience more enjoyable. The drinks arrived at our table in several minutes and were exactly what we asked for. We were invited to the carvery buffet . The carver was attentive and we were served the meat and chose our own extras . The food was of good quality and plentiful. We were asked during our meal if we required any more drinks and if we needed anything else. To which we did not but appreciated the attention. All in all a lovely Sunday meal. I can't praise the staff enough. Especially as its my Grandads favourite place to eat . We do tend to visit on a weekly basis. He feels at home in the surroundings and always compliments the atmosphere and staff. I am surprised to see negative feed back on here. But I have also witnessed people being extremely rude to staff on occasion. Which they dealt with professionally. I as well as my family and I have a large family at that really enjoy our visits . Keep up the amazing work and we will see you very soon. As a side note . We have also booked for Christmas Day 🎄 and are looking forward to it .

After being a regular at this place I would never go there again for food. oh sorry for no reason at all we as a family have been barred because the blonde manageress could not take criticism about the size of the portions and I told her I was going to trading standards. For a starter I got 5 little prawns in a pan WOW £7.95. For the main course I got a sirloin steak it was pan fried steak deffo so don't give me all that. Chef said it was sirloin. So then she took my father's burger and chips away from him even tho he hadn't finished absolutely rude I don't care what people comment when u pay for good food you expect good food. But most off all we have been barred under what circumstances I don't know. All because I've made a food complaint.

Fast service at an OK price. Food not the best, just usual pub fare. The piece of gamon was more like bacon being honest. We just nipped in on the off chance.

The food was lovely. The girls who served us were very nice, but the pub needed more staff.

We had a lovely meal at The Midge which was very tasty, the menu is very extensive and has the option of 'smaller plates'. Very reasonable prices and staff were very friendly. The only thing that let it down is that it was very cool in the restaurant and we were all sat in our coats, we have had this experience at this pub before and it is ogg putting when the weather is chilly. We will go back when the weather starts to warm up again next year.

Dined here with family on Saturday 14th October, and had a great time. The food and service was exceptional, and the food portions were incredibly generous.

Gone down hill. Food seems to be cheap meats. And not homemade anymore. It's like it's all from Costco. It's a shame

Can’t fault the food but the attention to detail on the service is really quite frustrating. They are not short staffed but we were still having to wait to order food, plates cleared away etc. Was wanting a dessert but ended leaving as we didn’t know how long it would take. The last 3 times we have been has been the same and it’s letting the place down

The menus of which there was two of consisted of too many dishes we felt. Eventually decided on the cheese pie and chicken caesar salad. The meals came on a massive chopping board full of little pots of accompaniments to the main dish which I felt was unnecessary and too showboaty! The Caesar salad was disappointing and it was served with a crude display of salad items in a bowl and pots of pasta and coleslaw?? The cheese pie was very tasty although didn’t need a pot of mushy peas at the side, kept staring at it whilst eating thinking how does that go with a cheese pie? Both meals came with chips, triple cooked which weren’t very nice, hardly touched them. Left a lot of food on the boards which isn’t like us. Waitress never once asked how our meals were. The pub was busy, atmosphere good only I felt a little cold as it was a big old building and with a visit to the toilets they could do with upgrading. My husband noticed the waitress put cutlery in a bowl of soapy water in the main dining area, polish it up and place it back on to a table! All in all, I don’t think we will return to try the very many dishes on offer. Disappointing.

We came for Sunday Dinner, the food was great, but the service was awful. I had to go to the bar to remind the staff that we wanted to order food. The food came which was good. I wanted to order a pudding, they brought me the list, then ver came back, so I didn't get my pudding. I was quite disappointed, it could have been a really good meal, but the bad service spoilt it.

Took my friend for her birthday and my daughter, the food was amazing, the girl who served us originally was fantastic, very quick and then we changed waiters part way though, young lad, very nice, but had to ask 2 or 3 tines for an extra spoon, the Latte, the bill. All very small things, but my desert was almost cold before i got the extra spoon, all in all, a lovely place to eat, cosy and intimate, and a great atmosphere 😀

A lot of places could learn from Midge Hall. The food is spectacular, great atmosphere and very reasonably priced. It's a fantastic place and I fully recommend - 5Stars

We visited for an 85th birthday meal on a Sunday lunchtime. The burger for one of our party was quite dry. Four of us had the carvery, the beef was inedible, the veg was over cooked and cold. On a positive note, the pork and turkey were lovely, the staff changed the beef joint out when they realised how poor it was, and the sticky toffee pudding was very good. In short, it was not a great meal.

Four of us visited recently at lunchtime. The service was quick and staff were friendly. However I was disappointed as I expected a small menu with local home cooked food. It wasnt, there was a huge menu (literally) of mainly fast food produced quickly. That said what was served was presented nicely and two of our party who love burgers and chips would return but it wasn't for me.

Considering that this pub usually gets good reviews our visit was very disappointing as it did not live up to its reputation. The service we received was very poor and probably attributed to them not having enough staff on duty to deal with the volume of customers. The food we received was at a low standard. My wife opted for a small portion of mussels mariniere which was described on the menu as being with a warm stout based sauce and served with brown bread. The dish that arrived was served with white bread and the creamy sauce was quite bland with no obvious flavour of stout. My rib eye steak was ordered as medium rare but proved to be cooked extremely rare and almost cold to the touch. No staff came to the table to ask if the meals were ok and staff were conspicuous by the absence so we could not get the faults rectified. We suffered the poor food and put the visit down as a bad experience. The manager collected our plates and showed no interest in asking how the meals were. As he was collecting my plate a number of uneaten chips fell onto the floor and were ignored by the manager. The manager's failure to come back and clean up the chips was viewed as a lack of concern. My wife was not surprised as she went on to point out the dead or dying flowers on all of the tables. The woman who presented the bill also showed no interest in gaining our opinion of the meal. The manager said goodbye as we were leaving as I seized the opportunity to explain what a poor experience it had been. He confirmed that they were short handed that night as a form of apology. The manager did ask me to pay another visit to try their services again. Based on this experience there is little likelihood that we will accept his invitation.

Had a great meal, food very good, even though we were a large group all our food was served together, friendly staff, good atmosphere.

Two staff to take orders, serve food, clear tables, seat customers, take payments and serve drinks at the bar. Unacceptably slow service. Chilli was mostly sauce with very little meat, hard item in the lasagne, but you can't argue with the presentation and size of meals, just the quality. Very tired outdoor space in need of TLC.

This is a great place that I visit with my family every time I come up to the NW. I used to visit a sister bar of theirs, which has unfortunately closed down, but Midge Hall is well worth the journey. The portion sizes are huge....I love it!

Great food, well presented, generous portions and a fair price, it’s been a long time since I visited but very impressed with coming back, I can highly recommend.

We went on Boxing Day. The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. We will definitely be returning. 🎄🥂🍻🍾😎🎉

Had a family Christmas meal here today. Good service, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and lots of very tasty food. Portion sizes are very generous especially the starters. Reasonably priced too.

Don't go on a Sunday night! By 7pm started cleaning around us and said they closed at 8pm. Moving grill stuff around and clearing up. Tried to take the coffee which we hadn't finished twice and then virtually forced us out of the door. All we wanted was a relaxing chat and nice atmosphere but that was ruined by staff cleaning. Cleaning should done at closing time not when people are trying to eat and talk.

Great food and staff always friendly ans helpful

Not visited since the new ownership, my mistake I should have come ages ago. My partner and I visited on 26.9.22 for lunch. We both had fish and chips which were tasty and more importantly hot. Plenty of condiments offered so need to keep requesting additional ones from the helpful and professional waitress. Great portion sizes, no starter required unless you are mega hungry. Next visit I want to try one of their speciality burgers or hot dogs. I have no qualms recommending the Midge.
